• Learning python, what to learn next to build a site?

  Hi everyone thanks for your help. I am currently learning python now through Think Python: How to Think Like a Computer Scientist. It is a great book, and is free online. I will learn more about python through Udacity and books online. After I learn python, what will I need to learn next to build a site? I want to build an interactive photo site. I will have to learn HTML. Do any of you know a good book or web site to learn HTML? I need to learn how to have python in HTML. As you know, I am using an editor now, but I need to learn how to use python to build a site. I am sorry that I am so ignorant. • Joomla: Prevent certain user from visiting a certain page

  I have an internal section in my Joomla only for "Registered" users. There they can edit preferences. Multiple users can access the same preferences (different stakeholders). Now I have "smithcorp" and "smithcorp_guest". They should both be able to view the same things, but "smithcorp_guest" shouldn't be able to edit the preferences. Is there a way to forbid "smithcorp_guest" access to this page? I have only seen access regulation via the user level, i.e. unregistered, registered, admin. Thanks, MrB

• wine and aptitude

  I'm trying to install Wine on Ubuntu Precise. I'm used to using aptitude for package management, so I tried to use that to install Wine. When I do that, I'm told I have to resolve dependencies that end up leaving me with 21 packages being uninstalled! However, when I try to install with apt-get, it appears to work fine. I am not happy with him and would like that once the website is ready, I transfer the duties of further development, seo and web admin to another developer. What do I need to be aware of? and what information do i need in terms of passwords etc? • When Ubuntu Server restarts eth0 Doesn't come back up

  Every time I restart my Ubuntu Server 11.10 I can't ssh into it because ETH0 doesn't come up automatically. I never had this problem before upgrading to 11.10. I have to login to the server and start the ETH0 manually. I would appreciate it any help. Thanks. • How Can I Upgrade to 11.10 from the Command Line?

  I am trying to upgrade my 11.04 Ubuntu operating system to 11.10, as the current system is not the most recent. However, I cannot use the GUI to upgrade - as from past experience I have learned this - because my graphics hardware only works on 10.04 to 11.04 (non-inclusive) and from 11.10+. So once I can get to 11.10, I should be just fine. Because of this, I need to find a way to upgrade the OS from the command line. Can this be done? Thanks for any and all help.

• Handheld device software - Handheld tuners?

  Hey I've been looking around and really don't understand what software some of these company's use for their handheld devices. I've used a lot of Handheld Tuners (Cobb Accessport, Diablo Sport). I've gotten more and more knowledgable of programming and I'm really wanting to understand what software they use on these devices to have a graphical interface. And to hold all the files to flash over to the ecu. I'm just unsure how you would get basically all the components to work together (screen, buttons, memory) without having drivers installed. I could be totally wrong here on using the term drivers, but that's what I would like some help to get more knowledge on (only thing I've really found is making a handheld game boy from scratch,but that was using a emulator.). I've tried looking it up but can't really find a good write up or explanation anywhere I look. Just really would like to put a little device together and have a simple user interface and work from there. Thanks, Nathan

• Problems about responsiveness and keyboard/mousepad not working

  So I installed Ubuntu 12.04, I'm very new at this and want to get into the world of Linux but have run into nothing but problems. I have an Acer Aspire 5553g. First off, my keyboard won't work. Second, my computer has more than enough of everything to run Ubuntu smoothly, but everything runs extremely slow. (You move the mouse and it gets there a few seconds later) It's to the point where I can't even use it and I really want to. I'm tired of Microsoft stuff and I've been looking at learning how to use Linux based operating systems for a while. Please send me some help to fix these issues and maybe some tips to help get me started. Thanks in advance chris

• TFS 2010 and Expanding Possibilities

  My organization is migrating to the new Team Foundation Server 2010, and we all are busy experimenting with ALM features. I find it very exciting and I foresee quite a lot of possibilities for TFS 2010 getting integrated with the Dynamics product line. I hope most of us know about the Version Control capabilities. However, I see a strong possibilities of having Team Builds and other automations, thanks to the technologies like workflow foundation in .net which is now being actively used in various TFS scenarios.   Lots of experiments so there is more to come!!

• Google-Calendar offline?

  How can I have my google-calendars availabe offline on my PC as well? I have been using dropbox to sync my calendars in ics-format between different PC's instead of using google calendar. The disadvantage of google-calendar is, that I can only see my appointments when online. Now I want to sync my calendars with my android device as well, what does not seem to be possible yet. So I am planning to have an online copy of all my appointments on Google-Calendar, in order to sync them with my Android device. At the same time I want to be able to access my appointments offline (have an offline copy of each calendar on my PC's synced via Dropbox). Is there a way to automatically duplicate and sync Coogle-Calendars with Ubuntu to achieve this? • Display not using xorg.conf?

  How can I force my PC to use the xorg.conf file ? I have it set up correctly and it is located at etc/x11/xorg.conf but it is ignored by at start up, I know the file is valid as I created it using nvidia-settings. I just do not know why it is been ignored. • Building (simple) stellar systems

  hi I'm currently looking at how to simulate easily some stellar systems (meaning some central stars and then some planets with maybe satellites), in order to allow later some space based strategy game (hence with space ships moving around). This should all be based around time (so the state of each system differs through time) I'm quite struggling with the math behind this topic, like for example: - ellipse related math, - creating the path from planet A to B having time in mind (respective positions will change over time)... Do you know of any resources for that ? I wouldn't mind even buying books about it... thanks in advance best space borg side note: how to display all this stuff isn't a matter at this point in time, I'll simple plans for that (basically sticking to 2D and a "high level view" with no space ships/planets details, just markers)

• Is there anyone with an Thinkpad Edge E320 with working Fn-Keys?

  I recently bought a new Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E320. I'm having trouble with my Fn-Keys. The ones for Sound, Brightness and MUltimedia work but those that toggle Wifi/Bluetooth, Webcam and Microphone on and off won't. Fortunately the Wifi, Webcam and Mic are enabled by default. My problem is that I can't disable them (which would be nice to know that this works) and that I can't enable Bluetooth. (I checked that my machine has bluetooth support) Can't say if it would work in Windows as I purchased a machine without Windows. Here is my dmesg: http://pastebin.com/gAgYeDG7 Thanks for reading :)

• How do i fix the slow scroll in browsers and high XOrg cpu usage

  I am facing an issue while scrolling in browsers(firefox, chrome, and opera) , scroll is jagged and slow. Also when scrolling the cpu usage spikes. I am currently running ubuntu natty(beta 1), switched from ubuntu 10.10 where the problem was worse. I am using the nvidia beta driver, which ubuntu installed automatically. My graphic card is nvidia Quadro NVS 150M. I tried running ubuntu without the effects on , but when using multiple applications at the same time xorg usage spikes again. Additional info: 2GB of RAM and an intel core 2 duo processor. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

• Update-manager does not show all updates

  Ever since I upgraded to 13.10, the software updater does not show all the available updates. Some will appear and can be installed just fine, but once it claims that all software is up to date, using sudo apt-get upgrade shows that there are still more packages waiting to be updated. I can update them via the command line, but that only solves things temporarily. I'm not sure why some show up and others don't. How can I make Update Manager update all packages? • Ubuntu Wubi Booting Problem

  i have a problem with my Ubuntu 12.04 Wubi installation, sometimes when booting, the computer will get to the purple screen without the Ubuntu logo, then will go to a black screen and then lots of white saccaged colors will appear and i will be taken to the login page. But sometimes, it just get stuck on the black screen and does nothing and i have to hard shutdown and retry it until it works. What may cause this problem and why? I can shutdown correctly. Thanks for helping. Edit: RADEON HD 7650M Graphic card with latest available Drivers on amd's driver download site (fglrx drivers caused shutdown problems so i removed them). Screen resolution is 1600x900.

• My msi gtx460 video card and nvidia problems

  I am trying to convert to ubuntu completely but my problems lies here, I install the os and the main monitor works fine, but the secondary monitor? blank.. is there any help with this? I know the os has problems with Nvidia stuff but if i can get the dual screens working, that is one thing out of the way. I have read and tried post "Ubuntu 12.04 Nvidia GTX 460 video card installation" and failed so hard i have to format and start over. Thanks!

• What does Visual studio debugger do, when condition should give error

  I'm debugging some code and I need to break everytime, when character in string (const char *) is equal to something. So I put there breakpoint and attach condition like: s[0] == 'e'. But code I'm debugging is in CRT and there is possibility, that s == 0 is true. So "addressing empty pointer" should give some kind of error. Yes - I could give there condition s != 0, but it would not be such fun :) And I'm curious, what will debugger do when trying to evaluate this condition? How it will behave internally? Obviously it's not giving any error nor stopping on this breakpoint when s == 0 Thanks for your answer.

  What layout of resume works best for experienced programmers? Currently my layout is: Contact Details Focus (goal) Technical Skills Professional Experience (Responsibilities + achievements at each job) Education Interests I feel my current layout uses up too much valuable space. Most of the online templates feel like junior Resumes with emphasis on education so I am not sure how I can improve it. I wonder how many hiring managers actually care about goal/objective? To me it looks useless. Also, is it necessary to have summary of technical skills/technologies? If so, would it not make more sense for it to be mentioned later in the Resume rather then at the top? Finally, do you have separate section for achievements? Many thanks.

• No splash screen on hibernate

  Hibernate is working fine. A bit slow when resuming from a hibernate but I can bear with it just so that I have all open applications on the desktop as I left it. Then again the "slowness" might be because of the 4GB RAM, although I'm assuming only what is used gets swapped and not the entire memory. Going back, my question is has anyone been able to make Ubuntu show a splash screen or some kind of indicator/progress bar to show while hibernating or while resuming? I remember with SuSE on my HP Compaq Presario notebook it had messages appear during and after. Better than nothing, I guess. Thanks in advance! :D

For reasons I wont get into, I created an advanced segment that looks for pages containing my subdomain of interest (subdomain.site.com). I want to ensure that my interpretation of this advanced segment is accurate. Simply, it flags all visits to our entire domain that viewed at least one page on my subdomain of interest? • Wireless connect- Webcam activation- MBR repair/rebuild

  Evening: I've NEVER had so much difficulty with Ubuntu. I got "Ubuntu Made Easy" and couldn't believe it hasn't done a damn thing to help solve the problems!!! #1. Since install of 12.04 I haven't been able to connect to wireless. Have done everything I can find/think of. Laptop indicates it's receiving wireless. Ran all updates, restricted extras, etc. NOTHING!! Tried to find how to activate built-in webcam (it worked when I installed O.S.) NOTHING; tried to find MBR repair/rebuild terminal command.. NOTHING!!! The book has has been useless, so far!! I really have to solve these problems, otherwise laptop and UBUNTU are worthless!!!
