• Howto: Configure Spring-WS to publish WSDL files with a '?WSDL' style URL?

  I am trying to configure web service proxying using Mule ESB. I am attempting to do this using Mule's WSProxyService, but after stepping through the corresponding code (with the debugger), it is clear that this class replaces endpoint addresses. The problem is Spring-WS WSDL addresses are of the style http://xxxx/xxxx.wsdl, but WSProxyService expects http://xxxx/xxxx?wsdl or http://xxxx/xxxx&wsdl. It replaces the remote endpoint addresses with the local WSDL address; it cuts the remote WSDL address at the question mark i.e. '?WSDL' is intended to be chopped off, so to create the search term. But because of Spring-WS, this does not work. To break it down: WSProxyService ends up trying to use http://xxxx/xxxx.wsdl to replace http://xxxx/xxxx with http://yyyy/yyyy which fails... leading to actual web service call going direct and not through the proxy. Has anyone ever noticed/solved this problem?? Cheers, Darren

• can a valid xml body have escaped characters for the '<' and '>' around the element names

  My web service is receiving xml from a third party that looks like this: <SOAP-ENV:Envelope xmlns:SOAP-ENV="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"> <SOAP-ENV:Body> &lt;Foo&gt;bar&lt;/Foo&gt; </SOAP-ENV:Body> </SOAP-ENV:Envelope> My jaxws web service rejects this with a parsing error. Also if I try to validate this xml using soapui it says Body with element-only content type cannot have text element. My question is, is that xml valid? Or is the client supposed to send me something without escaping the < and . Any references to xml standards or rules are appreciated.

• Anyone successfully using Commission Junction API ?

  Is anyone successfully using the CJ web services? I just keep getting java.lang.NullPointerExceptions even though my app is .net (clearly their errors). CJ support doesn't even know what a web service is. I googled and found many people getting this or other errors. Question is: is it a temporary problem or am I doomed to parse manually downloaded reports for eternity? The specific API I'm trying to use is the daily publisher commission service. • Still getting duplicate token error after calling DuplicateTokenEx for impersonated token

  I'm trying to return a Sytem.IntPtr from a service call so that the client can use impersonation to call some code. My imersonation code works properly if not passing the token back from a WCF service. I'm not sure why this is not working. I get the following error: "Invalid token for impersonation - it cannot be duplicated." According to the MSDN documentation I read here I should be able to create a token valid for delegation and use across the context on remote systems.   Trying to migrate data from C: to D: via the SBS console is failing. The wizard starts running but drops out in the first few seconds. • Using PostRequestHandlerExecute, Flush and Close to clean up after a request - why is this bad?

  After some requests I need to clean up after the user - by calling a remote web service to release some resources if I guess the user doesn't need them anymore. It is ok to leave them hanging and letting them time out on the other server, but the polite thing to do is to inform it that I do not need them anymore. I do not want to waste the users time waiting for cleaning - so I tried to find place to put it. First I tried Application_EndRequest, but I needed something later. Then I found PostRequestHandlerExecute which seemed like a nice place, but I still need a Flush and Close to release the connection to the user. • Proper way to bind WCF webservice to both HTTP (for dev) and HTTPS (for production)

  Seems like this would be fairly straightfoward but I can't figure it out. In lieu of using an ASMX web service, I'm trying to go with WCF.. and finding it hard to figure out bindings. I would like to be able to use HTTP to connect to the WCF service for local development (and on our "staging" server), but require HTTPS on our production server. Should this be possible with two bindings? I cannot get it to work. If someone could provide an example of just a very basic HTTP and HTTPS WCF setup, I'd be eternally grateful. Or point me to a book/website/etc. which solves all the mysteries of WCF.. that'd be great. Because right now it's looking easier to just go back to ASMX.

• How can I prevent tab characters etc. from being pasted into an asp.net textbox?

  Hello, I'd like to have an asp.net textbox that people can paste content into and it works like notepad, i.e. no formatting or special characters will get entered. I take text and pass it to a web service which manipulates it and converts it into a tab delimited file. The problem I've experienced is sometimes people copy from MS Word and paste that content in and somehow even the tab characters etc. get passed to the web service. I run routines now to strip that information out but it would be so much easier if the textbox on the web page didn't capture anything but the text itself, i.e. visible characters (numbers, letters, punctuation). Anyone have a suggestion to have a textbox that doesn't capture formatting and non-visual characters? Thank you.

The settings are under User Settings so there is no Loopback processing required (if my understanding is correct). • Implementing Security on custom BCS/.net class?

  I'm implementing a custom BCS Model to get data from a backend system. As the backend uses it's own user management, I'm accessing it through a service account. All of this works well and allows me to pull data into SharePoint. However because it's channeled through the service account, everyone can access it, which is bad. Can anyone give me some tips which method to implement? The backend does not give me NT ACLs, but I wonder if I could just "fake" them somehow? (Essentially saying "This NT Group has Read Access" is good enough). I am aware of ISecurityTrimmer2 for Search Results, but ideally I want to cover security inside the BCS Model so that it applies to external lists as well. I want to avoid using Secure storage and mapping each individual user to the backend.

• PHP SOAP client accessing server on non-standard port

  The service I'm trying to send requests to is accessible via a non-standard port - so not port 80. It is accessible locally via port 80. So I've tested the app locally and it works fine. But when I deploy it on the production server (not on the LAN), it fails. Once again for clarity: -dev server is on the LAN -SOAP server is on the LAN -production server is on the WAN -SOAP server is accessible through the NAT/FW via a non-standard http port (not 80) The soap client is created with the specified WSDL URI. For example: $this->client = new Zend_Soap_Client('http://server.com:10080/path/service.asmx?WSDL'); But queries to not work: $this->client->function($query); I get an: Internal Server Error Exception thrown. Is PHP broken in this regard? Is there a workaround?

• Visual Studio 2008 "Publish" option generates some empty folders

  When I right click an ASP.NET MVC solution and select the "Publish" option, the final output it generates contains several empty top-level folders. For instance, the "Service References" folder that gets automatically added when you add a service reference to a web app is generated without any files in it. Why are these folders generated at all if there's no content in them? Is there a way to let Visual Studio know to not bother publishing them? This isn't a big deal since it doesn't really affect the app (and before deploying I can always delete the empty folders), but it's a little annoying.

• Is NetNamedPipeBinding binding guaranteed to work only on the same machine?

  Hi, I've created a Windows Service that uses WCF for communications to it. The service should be used be called only from the same machine. If I can guarantee that there's no way to communicate with it from another machine, I can consider it secured. Since I'm using communications on a single machine, I opted to used NetNamedPipeBinding. This bindings documentation says it's Optimized for on-machine communications, but does not give any guarantees. My questions is, does NetNamedPipeBinding provide on-machine-only guarantees? If not what binding does, or how would you go implementing a custom bindings that does provide such guarantees? Thanks, Asaf

My service returns a custom result object PlacementResult in which I want to communicate errors that may have happened (validation) back to the controller method. Should PlacementResult have a ModelState or a ModelStateDictionary to communicate errors back to the controller (and finally view)? How would I string this together? Finally, how do I get the ModelState/ModelStateDictionary (whichever you tell me I should choose) back into the view (highlighting the appropriate text box, show the error message etc.)? Thank you !

  What is the purpose of IMetadataExchange endpoint. Some places i found that if i dont define this endpoint, adding service reference will not work OR creating proxy using svcutil wont work. But both of this working without having IMetadataExchange defined. If we have other endpoint with httpGetEnabled = true, we are able to create proxy from client. Also, some article says that we should delete IMetadataExchange before moving code to production and it should development period only so that other client cant see metadata. Doesnt this stop the behaviour of service having self describing itself? And if I have defined this IMetadataExchange endpoint, how can i see that on browser. Address whoch i have provided for this endpoint is not pulling any metadata in browser.

• How to create multiple SOAP webservice clients in same netbeans 6.8 project

  I have a project that is largely just to help one application make connections to an SAP server, for real-time updates. So the first web service client works fine, but I try to create a second and it seems to hang and I expect part of the problem is that it is trying to create a new Service class, but the namespace for all the webservices are identical, but the wsdl is obviously different, so it can't create the client. I can do it manually, by just having Service1, Service2, etc, or making some other change, but the issue is that Netbeans should be able to do this easily. I can't use Eclipse as the wsimport parameters that Netbeans uses works, in Eclipse I would need to do too much to make it work, so I will go with the easier tool. I don't want to create a new project for each webservice, as that just seems to be perpetuating a design error. So, how can I easily create multiple webservice clients that will all have the same target namespace, using Netbeans 6.8+?

Technician should be able to alter service jobs, but not modify invoices. Managers should be able to apply discount to invoices for jobs within their stores. Owner should be able to pull reports for any franchises he owns. Where should franchise-level access control fit in between the Data - Services - Web layer? If it belongs in my Controllers, how should I best implement it? I thought of this: {franchise}/{controller}/{action}/{id} or is it better to determine a job's franchise in a Details(...) action and limit a user's action with [Authorize]: {job}/{id}/{action}/{subaction} {invoice}/{id}/{action}/{subaction} which makes more sense if any user could potentially have access to more than one franchise without cluttering the URL with a {franchise} parameter.
