• Triple Quotes? How do I delimit a databound Javascript string parameter in ASP.NET?

  How do I delimit a Javascript databound string parameter in an anchor OnClick event? I have an anchor tag in an ASP.NET Repeater control. The OnClick event of the anchor contains a call to a Javascript function. The Javascript funciton takes a string for it's input parameter. The string parameter is populated with a databound value from the Repeater. I need the 'double quotes' for the Container.DataItem. I need the 'single quotes' for the OnClick. And I still need one more delimiter (triple quotes?) for the input string parameter of the Javascript function call. Since I can't use 'single quotes' again, how do I ensure the Javascript function knows the input parameter is a string and not an integer? Without the extra quotes around the input string parameter, the Javascript function thinks I'm passing in an integer. Cheers in advance for any knowledge you can drop.   Hi, I am having problem with this code.Basically I want to execute the fwrite from a timer function asyncronusly. Here is the code block in my Timer function. (This will call by the timer every 0.2 seconds. -(void)timerFunction { WriteFileOperation * operation = [WriteFileOperation writeFileWithBuffer:pFile buffer:readblePixels length:nBytes*15]; [_queue addOperation:operation]; // Here it is waiting to complete the fwrite } The WrtiteFilerOperation is an NSoperation class which it has to write the passing buffer to a file. I added this code in WriteFileOperation's "start" method. • Pass Result of ASIHTTPRequest "requestFinished" Back to Originating Method

  I have a method (getAllTeams:) that initiates an HTTP request using the ASIHTTPRequest library. NSURL *httpURL = [[[NSURL alloc] initWithString:@"/api/teams" relativeToURL:webServiceURL] autorelease]; ASIHTTPRequest *request = [[[ASIHTTPRequest alloc] initWithURL:httpURL] autorelease]; [request setDelegate:self]; [request startAsynchronous]; What I'd like to be able to do is call [WebService getAllTeams] and have it return the results in an NSArray. At the moment, getAllTeams doesn't return anything because the HTTP response is evaluated in the requestFinished: method. Ideally I'd want to be able to call [WebService getAllTeams], wait for the response, and dump it into an NSArray. I don't want to create properties because this is disposable class (meaning it doesn't store any values, just retrieves values), and multiple methods are going to be using the same requestFinished (all of them returning an array). I've read up a bit on delegates, and NSNotifications, but I'm not sure if either of them are the best approach. I found this snippet about implementing callbacks by passing a selector as a parameter, but it didn't pan out (since requestFinished fires independently). Any suggestions? I'd appreciate even just to be pointed in the right direction. NSArray *teams = [[WebService alloc] getAllTeams]; (currently doesn't work, because getAllTeams doesn't return anything, but requestFinished does. I want to get the result of requestFinished and pass it back to getAllTeams:)

• dialing on iphone/ipod touch not working with documented procedures

  I'm trying to set up an iphone app to the phone number of a various sports store using the tel:// url passing method- I am developing on an ipod touch- usually on the touch you see the error message "Unsupported URL - This URL wasn't loaded tel://99887766" when you try and dial a number. I cant get this message to appear on the simulator or the ipod touch. do I need to do some sort of fancy signing before the app will dial properly? I am using this code: [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"tel:%@", [selectedBar phoneNumber]]]]; and I've tried adding the slashes: [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"tel://%@", [selectedBar phoneNumber]]]]; but neither work. • PHP strtotime() looks like it is expecting a Euro format

  I've been using PHP's strtotime() method to accept a date field on a form. I love how powerful it is, in how it will accept "Tomorrow", "Next Thursday", or (supposedly) any date representation and convert it to the Unix timestamp. It's been working great -- until yesterday. Someone entered "2-4-10" and instead of logging Feb 4th, 2010, it logged April 10, 2002! So it expected Y-M-D instead of M-D-Y. I thought maybe the problem was just using a 2-digit year, so we tried again with "2-4-2010". That logged April 2nd, 2010! At that point I just don't understand what strtotime() is doing. PHP.net says it expects a US English date format. Why then would it assume D-M-Y? Is there a way around this? Or do I have to stop using strtotime()? Note: I just now did a test. When you use slashes instead of hyphen/dashes, it works fine, even with 2/4/10. Why on earth does that matter? And if that's all it is, should I just run str_replace("-", "/", $input) on the form input before passing it to strtotime()?

• LINQDataSource and private columns

  Hey, I was trying to use a ListView bound to a LinqDataSource to insert to a table where I had a few columns private to the table class (Specifically password columns - only access I want to give outside the class is methods that generate the salt and encrypt the password to store it in 1 go). I gave this a few shots, but I didn't come up with anything I really liked... was wondering if anyone has a better way to do this. The methods I've found: Use the LinqDataSource inserting event and make the appropriate calls on e.NewObject. I don't really like this because it's so far removed from the actual input and there's no simple way to hold the password in the meantime other than a class variable set during the ListView's inserting event (Which works, but seems a little dodgy). Open up these properties and just ask everyone to use the appropriate static methods for encoding the passwords they pass in. I don't really like this cause I'd prefer that class to enforce data integrity rather than relying on all calling code doing it properly... I'm currently going with option #1, but I don't really like passing values between events using class variables like that (It just seems unstructured... even though I can guarantee the events will happen in the right order). Does anyone know a better way, or alternatively am I being too pedantic and one of the methods above is actually the right way to go? Thanks

  Hi, I'm trying to get my favorite Windows diff/merge tool, UltraCompare (V7.00) to work with Mercurial/TortoiseHg. I have set up UltraCompare in my Mercurial.ini like this (only relevant bits shown): [merge-tools] UltraCompare.executable = C:\Programme\IDM Computer Solutions\UltraCompare\uc.com UltraCompare.args = $base $local $other UltraCompare.priority = 1 UltraCompare.gui = True UltraCompare.binary = True UltraCompare.checkconflicts = True UltraCompare.checkchanged = True However, the three-way-merge fails. The path names get messed up if the path to the repository that is being merged to contains a space. I have done some more testing, and I've found out (using Process Explorer) that uc.com is called with a broken command line if there is a space in the repository's path: Compare "C:\Programme\IDM Computer Solutions\UltraCompare\uc.exe" " "c:\dokume~1\tim~1.pie\lokale~1\temp\test.txt~base.akr6au" "E:\Eigene Dateien\test\test-merge\test.txt" "c:\dokume~1\tim~1.pie\lokale~1\temp\test.txt~other.b92442" and "C:\Programme\IDM Computer Solutions\UltraCompare\uc.com" "c:\dokume~1\tim~1.pie\lokale~1\temp\test.txt~base.e7vryp" "E:\test\test-merge\test.txt" "c:\dokume~1\tim~1.pie\lokale~1\temp\test.txt~other.u_qxme" There is an extraneous " after the path of the executable in the first example - not in the second (which works fine). To me, it seems as if UltraCompare is doing everything right, and that Mercurial/TortoiseHg are passing a defective command line to it. Would you say so, too? Is there a workaround? I've just updated to Mercurial 1.5/TortoiseHg 1.0, and the problem persists. Support for other merge tools (Beyond Compare and others) has been added, sadly not UltraCompare...

  I am aware that passing vdso=0 to kernel can turn this feature off, and that the dynamic linker in glibc can automatic detect and use vdso feature from kernel. Here I met with this problem. There is a RHEL 5.6 box (kernel 2.6.18-238.el5) in my institution where I only have a normal user access, probably suffering from RHEL bug 673616.   I basically want to be able to: Write a few functions in python (with the minimum amount of extra meta data) Turn these functions into a web service (with the minimum of effort / boiler plate) Automatically generate some javascript functions / objects for rpc (this should prevent me from doing as many stupid things as possible like mistyping method names, forgetting the names of methods, passing the wrong number of arguments) Example python: def hello_world(): return "Hello world" javascript: ... <!-- This file is automatically generated (either dynamically or statically) --> <script src="http://myurl.com/webservice/client_side_javascript"> </script> ... <script> $('#button').click(function () { hello_world(function (data){ $('#label').text(data))) } </script> A bit of research has shown me some approaches that come close to this: Automatic generation of json-rpc services from functions with a little boiler plate code in python and then using jquery and json to do the calls (still easy to make mistakes with method names - still need to be aware of urls when calling, very irritating to write these calls yourself in the firebug shell) Using a library like soaplib to generate wsdl from python (by adding copious type information). And then somehow convert this into javascript (not sure if there is even a library to do this) But are there any approaches closer to what I want?

• How do I pass a lot of parameters to views in Dango?

  I'm very new to Django and I'm trying to build an application to present my data in tables and charts. Till now my learning process went very smooth, but now I'm a bit stuck. My pageview retrieves large amounts of data from a database and puts it in the context. The template then generates different html-tables. So far so good. Now I want to add different charts to the template. I manage to do this by defining <img src=".../> tags. The Matplotlib chart is generate in my chartview an returned via: response=HttpResponse(content_type='image/png') canvas.print_png(response) return response Now I have different questions: the data is retrieved twice from the database. Once in the pageview to render the tables, and again in the chartview for making the charts. What is the best way to pass the data, already in the context of the page to the chartview? I need a lot of charts, each with different datasets. I could make a chartview for each chart, but probably there is a better way. How do I pass the different dataset names to the chartview? Some charts have 20 datasets, so I don't think that passing these dataset parameters via the url (like: <imgm src="chart/dataset1/dataset2/.../dataset20/chart.png />) is the right way. Any advice?

• Matplotlib PDF export uses wrong font

  I want to generate high-quality diagrams for a presentation. I’m using Python’s matplotlib to generate the graphics. Unfortunately, the PDF export seems to ignore my font settings. I tried setting the font both by passing a FontProperties object to the text drawing functions and by setting the option globally. For the record, here is a MWE to reproduce the problem: import scipy import matplotlib matplotlib.use('cairo') import matplotlib.pylab as pylab import matplotlib.font_manager as fm data = scipy.arange(5) for font in ['Helvetica', 'Gill Sans']: fig = pylab.figure() ax = fig.add_subplot(111) ax.bar(data, data) ax.set_xticks(data) ax.set_xticklabels(data, fontproperties = fm.FontProperties(family = font)) pylab.savefig('foo-%s.pdf' % font) In both cases, the produced output is identical and uses Helvetica (and yes, I do have both fonts installed). Just to be sure, the following doesn’t help either: matplotlib.rc('font', family = 'Gill Sans') Finally, if I replace the backend, instead using the native viewer: matplotlib.use('MacOSX') I do get the correct font displayed – but only in the viewer GUI. The PDF output is once again wrong. To be sure – I can set other fonts – but only other classes of font families: I can set serif fonts or fantasy or monospace. But all sans-serif fonts seem to default to Helvetica.

• Rails 3 get raw post data and write it to tmp file

  I'm working on implementing Ajax-Upload for uploading photos in my Rails 3 app. The documentation says: For IE6-8, Opera, older versions of other browsers you get the file as you normally do with regular form-base uploads. For browsers which upload file with progress bar, you will need to get the raw post data and write it to the file. So, how can I receive the raw post data in my controller and write it to a tmp file so my controller can then process it? (In my case the controller is doing some image manipulation and saving to S3.) Some additional info: As I'm configured right now the post is passing these parameters: Parameters: {"authenticity_token"=>"...", "qqfile"=>"IMG_0064.jpg"} ... and the CREATE action looks like this: def create @attachment = Attachment.new @attachment.user = current_user @attachment.file = params[:qqfile] if @attachment.save! respond_to do |format| format.js { render :text => '{"success":true}' } end end end ... but I get this error: ActiveRecord::RecordInvalid (Validation failed: File file name must be set.): app/controllers/attachments_controller.rb:7:in `create'

• strange behavior in python

  The tags might not be accurate since I am not sure where the problem is. I have a module where I am trying to read some data from a socket, and write the results into a file (append) It looks something like this, (only relevant parts included) if __name__ == "__main__": <some init code> for line in file: t = Thread(target=foo, args=(line,)) t.start() while nThreads > 0: time.sleep(1) Here are the other modules, def foo(text): global countLock, nThreads countLock.acquire() nThreads += 1 countLock.release() """connect to socket, send data, read response""" writeResults(text, result) countLock.acquire() nThreads -= 1 countLock.release() def writeResults(text, result): """acquire file lock""" """append to file""" """release file lock""" Now here's the problem. Initially, I had a typo in the function 'foo', where I was passing the variable 'line' to writeResults instead of 'text'. 'line' is not defined in the function foo, it's defined in the main block, so I should have seen an error, but instead, it worked fine, except that the data was appended to the file multiple times, instead of being written just once, which is the required behavior, which I got when I fixed the typo. My question is, 1) Why didn't I get an error? 2) Why was the writeResults function being called multiple times?

• Outgoing UDP sniffer in python?

  I want to figure out whether my computer is somehow causing a UDP flood that is originating from my network. So that's my underlying problem, and what follows is simply my non-network-person attempt to hypothesize a solution using python. I'm extrapolating from recipe 13.1 ("Passing Messages with Socket Datagrams") from the python cookbook (also here). Would it possible/sensible/not insane to try somehow writing an outgoing UDP proxy in python, so that outgoing packets could be logged before being sent on their merry way? If so, how would one go about it? Based on my quick research, perhaps I could start a server process listening on suspect UDP ports and log anything that gets sent, then forward it on, such as: import socket s =socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_DGRAM) s.bind(("", MYPORT)) while True: packet = dict(zip('data', 'addr'), s.recvfrom(1,024)) log.info("Recieved {data} from {addr}.".format(**packet)) But what about doing this for a large number of ports simultaneously? Impractical? Are there drawbacks or other reasons not to bother with this? Is there a better way to solve this problem (please be gentle).

  I am developng Smart device application in C#. It is a window application. In this application I am using Login form to authenticate the users. Only authenticated users can login into the system. In this application I am calling java web services which resides on another machine. I am passing mobile number & password from mu application's login form to the java web services. The java web services returns the userid after successful authentication. I made this userid static so that it can be used frequently with other web services. I using statc variables in this application so that they can be used at application level. After deploying the application I can see that emulator provides the close button with multiplicaton symbol. In this way I can close my form as well as application. But I want to provde one logout link in my application. Can I provide logout functionality in C# window application ? If yes, how to do that ? Please make sure that all the functions of .net framework does not work with .net compact framwork? Can you provide me the code or link through which can resolve the above issue ?

• Building a formset dynamically

  I initially wrote code to build a form dynamically, based on data from the DB, similar to what I described in my previous SO post. As SO user Daniel Roseman points out, he would use a formset for this, and now I've come to the realization that he must be completely right. :) My approach works, basically, but I can't seem to get validation across the entire form to be working properly (I believe it's possible, but it's getting quite complex, and there has to be a smarter way of doing it = Formsets!). So now my question is: How can I build a formset dynamically? Not in an AJAX way, I want each form's label to be populated with an FK value (team) from the DB. As I have a need for passing parameters to the form, I've used this technique from a previous SO post. With the former approach, my view code is (form code in previous link): def render_form(request): teams = Team.objects.filter(game=game) form_collection = [] for team in teams: f = SuggestionForm(request.POST or None, team=team, user=request.user) form_collection.append(f) Now I want to do something like: def render_form(request): teams = Team.objects.filter(game=game) from django.utils.functional import curry from django.forms.formsets import formset_factory formset = formset_factory(SuggestionForm) for team in teams: formset.form.append(staticmethod(curry(SuggestionForm, request.POST or None, team=team, user=request.user))) But the append bit doesn't work. • LINQ to XML contents of child records.

  I have this LINQ to XML enquiry... var Records = from Item in XDoc.Root.Elements("Item") where (string)Item.Element("ItemNumber") == item.ID.ToString select Item; ... where ItemNumber is a reference number used in the XML, (originally written by this program but manually edited by "others"), and item.ID is the database version of the same thing. The query executes, and I can test for the number of entries in the result fine... if (Records.Count() < 1) ... you get the idea. I have established that there is only one record. Each Item has several child fields. I want to test the values of the child fields are reasonable before passing them on to the database update sub-system. The XML is produced by the program, but edited by users, so I need to really check what is coming back. So I tried... if (DB_English.ToString() != Records.Elements("English").ToString()) ... DB_English is from the database, but the XML in Records, does not contain the contents of that field, it contains... System.Xml.Linq.Extensions+<GetElements>d__29`1[System.Xml.Linq.XElement] ... so, how do I get the value of this element in the XML file? I need to check the field in the XML has not been altered, (the manual editors of this data file are not potentially 100% reliable).
