  • Rails - session information being cleared?

    Hi! I'm having a weird issue that I can't track down... For context, I have resources of Users, Registries, and Giftlines. Each User has many Registries. Each Registry has many Giftlines. It's a belongs to association for them in a reverse manner. What is basically happening, is that when I am creating a giftline, the giftline itself is created properly, and linked to its associated Registry properly, but then in the process of being redirected back to the Registry show page, the session[:user_id] variable is cleared and I'm logged out. As far as I can tell, where it goes wrong is here in the registries_controller: def show @registry = Registry.find(params[:id]) @user = User.find(@registry.user_id) if (params[:user_id] && (@user.login != params[:user_id]) ) flash[:notice] = "User #{params[:user_id]} does not have such a registry." redirect_to user_registries_path(session[:user_id]) end end Now, to be clear, I can do a show of the registry normally, and nothing weird happens. It's only when I've added a giftline does the session[:user_id] variable get cleared. I used the debugger and this is what seems to be happening.     I have read a number of Q&As on SO in search of some help on this but have so far not solved my issue. I am trying to teach myself ruby/rails, and as a test project, I want to create a list of tvshows and a list of characters where each tvshow has_many characters and each character belongs_to a specific show. I am sure I am doing something basic incorrectly.     I normally use pam_limits.so and /etc/security/limits.conf to set ulimits on filesize/cputime etc for the regular users logging in to my server running Ubuntu. Can anyone give the best way of doing similar with Solaris 10. I think it is done using /etc/system but have no idea what to add to the file or indeed if it is the correct file. I'm particularly interested in setting up ulimit -f without going down the .profile route.

  • Watchguard Firewall - Issues with SSLVPN

    I have a client who has a WatchGuard XTM 23 device on site as their primary firewall. I just upgraded its firmware a couple days ago to the latest version for that series, 11.6.6. The problem is that I haven't successfully been able to setup a VPN connection for them. Using the instructions at http://www.watchguard.com/help/docs/webui/11_XTM/en-US/index.html#en-US/mvpn/ssl/configure_fb_for_mvpn_ssl_c.html, I'm trying to setup a VPN with SSL connection: From the firewall web GUI / Dashboard, I go to VPN - Mobile VPN with SSL, I enable it, add the organization's public IP address to which the firewall is connected. I've setup a group in Active Directory named "SSLVPN-Users", verified that the WatchGuard box can talk to the Active Directory Server, and added myself to that group. I then downloaded the WatchGuard Mobile VPN with SSL client onto my own Windows 7 machine, walked to the client's 2nd building across the street (which has a different public internet connection), and tried to connect to the VPN. When I do try to connect with the client, I get the following errors: 2013-06-24T15:41:32.119 Launching WatchGuard Mobile VPN with SSL client. Version 11.6.0 (Build 343814) Built:Jun 13 2012 01:42:55 2013-06-24T15:41:37.595 Requesting client configuration from 184.174.143.176:443 2013-06-24T15:41:50.106 FAILED:Cannot perform http request, timeout 12002 2013-06-24T15:41:50.106 failed to get domain name I discovered today the Firebox System Manager, and its "Traffic Monitor" which gives current log information (refreshes every 5 seconds). Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the client has setup any sort of WatchGuard / Firebox logging server, so actually recording server-side logs to file hasn't been done. I can work on implementing that if I need to. I noticed that if I try to ping the client's public IP address from an outside source, I don't get a response back (unless I added a policy into the firewall to allow ICMP traffic from "External", which I successfully did a few seconds ago for testing purposes - that rule has since been reverted to not respond to external ping requests). There's a policy in the firewall for allowing SSLVPN Traffic authentication requests coming from any external source TO the Firebox, and then to do the authentication / actually allow the VPN traffic, there's a policy allowing traffic for anyone in the SSLVPN-Users group to flow between that user and the inside network. So my questions are: Has anyone seen these errors before from the Watchguard VPN Client, and/or do you have any suggestions on how I can resolve that error? If I need to setup logging server to grab the firewall logs (in order to further troubleshoot this issue), how complicated a task is that and does it require a lot of system resources? The organization I'm consulting with only has 1 server and not a lot of resources or technical know-how.

    I am setting up a web server and notice out the box it gives IIS_IUSRS read & execute (and as a result list folder contents) permissions on the wwwroot. I'm trying to make sure its secure as possible, and just wondering if its ok to leave that? On my last server (Win2003) I only gave 'read' permissions to users on the wwwroot and then manually added the write / execute permissions on folders as needed. Just wondering if everyone else leaves the permissions as they are?

I have had a google, but there don't seem to be any comparisons of TMG to pfSense. Anyone have experience/knowledge of this? Let me begin what i learned about the system and still couldn't find the solution: We have an Oracle Application Server (10.1.) and Oracle Database server (9.2.), the software guys wrote a kind of big J2EE project (X project) using specifically JSF 1.2 with Ajax which is only used in this project. They actively use PL/SQL in their code. So, we started the application server (Solaris machine), everything seems OK. users start using the app starting Monday from different locations (app 200 have user accounts,i just checked and see that the connection pool is set right, the session are active only 15 minutes). After sometime (2 days) CPU utilization gets high,%60, at night it is still same nothing changed (the online user amount is nearly 1 or 2 at this time), even it starts using the CPU allocated for other applications on the same server because they freed If we don't restart the server, the utilization becomes %90 following 2 days, application is so slow that end users starts calling. The main problem is software engineers say that code is clear, and the System and DBA managers say that we have the correct configuration,the other applications seems OK why this problem happens only for X application. I start copying the DB to a test platform and upgrade it to the latest version, also did in same with the application server (Weblogic) if there is a bug or not. i only tested by myself only one user and weblogic admin panel i can track the threads and dump them. i noticed that there are some threads showing as a hogging. when i checked the manuals and control the trace i see that it directs me the line number where PL/SQL code is called from a .java file. The software eng. says that yes we have really complex PL/SQL codes but what's the relation with Application server? this is the problem of DB server, i guess they're right... I know the question has many holes, i'd like to give more in detail but i appreciate the way you guide me. Thanks in advance ...   • Httpd + Expect Script Fail (no more ptys) if httpd is not run through cli

    I have a CentOS virtual server through Vmware. The server runs an httpd daemon which serves an php page with a form. The users complete the form, and by clicking submit the php page calls an expect scripts. If i run the httpd throught the default init.d script i get a "no more ptys" error, but if i run httpd through root terminal the script runs without problems. How can i make the httpd run the expect scripts without having to run the httpd daemon by hand.

I tried using db_dump (Berkeley DB) for the .db files, but it seems that they are not Berkeley DB, or of an older version. I have no idea what the .PMP files are. Central allows me to create an install URL to send to a client, but I want to create a GPO to deploy the LogMeIn to the entire domain of computers.     We have a restricted Windows 7 computer that hides and prevents non-admin users from accessing the C Drive. However, they are able to circumvent this by typing the following into Explorer: \\localhost\C$ How can I disable this path but allow other UNC paths. For example they are allowed to access a shared folder on a different computer. eg. \\192.168.2.1\SharedTransfer Note: Simply Enabling the Group Policy: Remove Run menu from Start Menu will not work as this blocks all UNC paths.
