  • Trying to understand Java RSA key size

    - by Tom Brito
    The key generator was initilized with a size of 1024, so why the printed sizes are 635 and 162? import java.security.KeyPair; import java.security.KeyPairGenerator; import java.security.NoSuchAlgorithmException; import java.security.NoSuchProviderException; import java.security.interfaces.RSAPrivateKey; import java.security.interfaces.RSAPublicKey; public class TEST { public static KeyPair generateKeyPair() throws NoSuchAlgorithmException, NoSuchProviderException { KeyPairGenerator keyPairGenerator = KeyPairGenerator.getInstance("RSA", "BC"); keyPairGenerator.initialize(1024); return keyPairGenerator.generateKeyPair(); } public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception { KeyPair keyPair = generateKeyPair(); RSAPrivateKey privateKey = (RSAPrivateKey) keyPair.getPrivate(); RSAPublicKey publicKey = (RSAPublicKey) keyPair.getPublic(); System.out.println("Size = " + privateKey.getEncoded().length); System.out.println("Size = " + publicKey.getEncoded().length); } }

  • Ruby Metaprogramming

    - by Veerendra Manikonda
    I am having a method which returns the price of a given symbol and i am writing a test for that method. This is my test def setup @asset = NetAssetValue.new end def test_retrieve_price_for_symbol_YHOO assert_equal(33.987, @asset.retrieve_price_for_a_symbol('YHOO')) end def test_retrive_price_for_YHOO def self.retrieve_price_for_a_symbol(symbol) 33.77 end assert_equal(33.97, @asset.retrieve_price_for_a_symbol('YHOO')) end This is my method. def retrieve_price_for_a_symbol(symbol) symbol_price = { "YHOO" => 33.987, "UPS" => 35.345, "T" => 80.90 } raise Exception if(symbol_price[symbol].nil?) symbol_price[symbol] end I am trying to mock the retrieve_price_for_a_symbol method by writing same method in test class but when i call it, the call is happening to method in main class not in the test class. How do I add that method to meta class from test and how do i call it? Please help.

  • Is PThread a good choice for multi-platorm C/C++ multi-threading program?

    - by RogerV
    Been doing mostly Java and smattering of .NET for last five years and haven't written any significant C or C++ during that time. So have been away from that scene for a while. If I want to write a C or C++ program today that does some multi-threading and is source code portable across Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux/Unix - is PThread a good choice? The C or C++ code won't be doing any GUI, so won't need to worry with any of that. For the Windows platform, I don't want to bring a lot of Unix baggage, though, in terms of unix emulation runtime libraries. Would prefer a PThread API for Windows that is a thin-as-possible wrapper over existing Windows threading APIs. ADDENDUM EDIT: Am leaning toward going with boost:thread - I also want to be able to use C++ try/catch exception handling too. And even though my program will be rather minimal and not particularly OOPish, I like to encapsulate using class and namespace - as opposed to C disembodied functions.

  • Referencing invalid memory locations with C++ Iterators

    - by themoondothshine
    I am a big fan of GCC, but recently I noticed a vague anomaly. Using __gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator (ie, the most common iterator type used in libstdc++, the C++ STL) it is possible to refer to an arbitrary memory location and even change its value without causing an exception! Is this expected behavior? If so, isn't a security loophole? Here's an example: #include <iostream> using namespace std; int main() { basic_string<char> str("Hello world!"); basic_string<char>::iterator iter = str.end(); iter += str.capacity() + 99999; *iter = 'x'; cout << "Value: " << *iter << endl; }

  • Write file in sub-directory in Android

    - by Davide Vosti
    I'm trying to save a file in a subdirectory in Android 1.5. I can successfully create a directory using _context.GetFileStreamPath("foo").mkdir(); (_context is the Activity where I start the execution of saving the file) but then if I try to create a file in foo/ by _context.GetFileStreamPath("foo/bar.txt"); I get a exception saying I can't have directory separator in a file name ("/"). I'm missing something of working with files in Android... I thought I could use the standard Java classes but they don't seem to work... I searched the Android documentation but I couldn't fine example and google is not helping me too... I'm asking the wrong question (to google)... Can you help me out with this? Thank you!

  • Ruby Hash.merge with specified keys only

    - by ba
    I'm pretty sure I saw on a Rails related site something along the lines of: def my_function(*opts) opts.require_keys(:first, :second, :third) end And if one of the keys in require_keys weren't specified, or if there were keys that weren't specified, an exception was raised. I've been looking through ActiveSupport and I guess I might be looking for something like the inverse of except. I like to try and use as much of the framework as possible compared to writing my own code, that's the reason I'm asking when I know how to make the same functionality on my own. :) At the moment I'm doing it through the normal merge routine and making sure that I have what I need with some IFs.

  • How to set an error message from EditorPart when ApplyChanges returns false?

    - by jmservera
    I'm developing a custom ASP.Net WebPart using the WebPartManager and I'm creating a custom EditorPart too. For its EditorPart.ApplyChanges method I set the return value to false whenever there is an error. In the EditorZone I get a standard error message indicating that some error happened to the editor, but I want to change that message. Is that possible? Something like... public override bool ApplyChanges() { try { // save properties return true; } catch(Exception ex) { ErrorMessage = ex.Message; // is there any similar property I can fill? return false; } }

  • Are breakpoints introduce delay?

    - by kamilo
    How is that setting a breakpoint in my code allows the following code to complete which would fail otherwise. Here is the problem. I'm writing an add-on for SAP B1 and encountered following problem. When I load a form I would like to enter some values into the form' matrix. But without a breakpoint (set on a method in which loading a form takes place) the part of code that is executed afterwards will fail. That part of code is referencing a matrix that is not yet displayed which results in an exception. This is all clear. But why setting a breakpoint "solves" the problem. What is going on? I suspect that my breakpoint introduces some delay between loading and displaying my form and part of code that references element of that form but I could be wrong. Thanks in advance

  • Using * Width & Precision Specifiers With boost::format

    - by John Dibling
    I am trying to use width and precision specifiers with boost::format, like this: #include <boost\format.hpp> #include <string> int main() { int n = 5; std::string s = (boost::format("%*.*s") % (n*2) % (n*2) % "Hello").str(); return 0; } But this doesn't work because boost::format doesn't support the * specifier. Boost throws an exception when parsing the string. Is there a way to accomplish the same goal, preferably using a drop-in replacement?

  • Protocols/Interfaces in Ruby

    - by fifigyuri
    While coding in Ruby I did not really miss the type-orientedness of Java or C++ so far, but for some cases I think it is useful to have them. For Python there was a project PyProtocols which defined interfaces and protocols for objects. Does a similar initiative also exist for Ruby? I would like to be able to declare the expected parameters for some methods for some objects (for the entire code I find such think useless). It the method during the execution receives an unexpected input, it tries to adapt it or if it cannot, it throws an exception. Does something similar exist for Ruby? Introducing types for a type-less language like Ruby might sound freak, but I think types are sometimes useful. Thanks for help.

  • Using Linq to filter parents by their children

    - by Nick L
    Having some problems with my Silverlight app (with RIA services) filtering my results. The idea is on the client I set up the EntityQuery and its filters and call load. However this isn't working for me. Heres my code. public void FireQuery(string filterValue) { EntityQuery<Parent> query = m_ParentDomainContext.GetParentQuery(); query = query.Where(p => p.Children.Any(c => c.Name.Contains(filterValue))); m_ParentDomainContext.Load(query, Query_Completed, null); } Compiles just fine, however, runtime I get "Query operator 'Any' is not supported." Exception. Does anyone know of a good way to filter like this? Again, I'm looking for a way to set this up on the client.

  • will destroyed() be emitted if the constructor of a class derived from QObject throws?

    - by PorkyBrain
    Ive seen Qt GUI syntax like the following all over the place: myDialog::myDialog(QWidget *parent, Qt::WFlags flags):QDialog(parent, flags) { QPushButton *button = new QPushButton("&Download", this); QVBoxLayout *layout = new QVBoxLayout(this); //something that can throw here layout ->addWidget(button ); setLayout(layout); } I've always wondered if this can leak in the event of an exception because the "this" I'm giving as a parent to button and layout is not fully constructed so it might not destroy its children. I tried it out in MSVC2010 Qt4.8.3 and it looks like as soon as the base QObject class is fully created (which is done first of course) it is ok to pass "this" to other objects in the constructor, they will destroyed correctly. I haven't found the spot in the Qt docs guaranteeing this though, can someone point me to it so I have assurance that this will not change in the future?

  • error while adding WCF service reference

    - by user1561256
    There was an error downloading . Unable to connect to the remote server No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved.There was no endpoint listening at that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See Inner Exception, if present, for more details. Unable to connect to the remote server No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. If the service is defined in the current solution, try building the solution and adding the service reference again. can pls somebody solve this.

  • Is it bad practice to initialize a variable to a dummy value?

    - by froadie
    This question is a result of the answers to this question that I just asked. It was claimed that this code is "ugly" because it initializes a variable to a value that will never be read: String tempName = null; try{ tempName = buildFileName(); } catch(Exception e){ ... System.exit(1); } FILE_NAME = tempName; Is this indeed bad practice? Should one avoid initializing variables to dummy values that will never actually be used? (EDIT - And what about initializing a String variable to "" before a loop that will concatenate values to the String...? Or is this in a separate category? e.g. String whatever = ""; for(String str : someCollection){ whatever += str; } )

  • Local variable and Try/Catch

    - by 3D-kreativ
    I get an error, a red line below the variable intAge in the if-statement in the code. It says the variable is local, but how could it be local when it is declared in the beginning of the code? Does it have to do with the Try/Catch part? The reason why my code looks like it does, is just beacuse I have to use a Try/Catch in the code for this task. Preciate some suggestions to solve this in a similiar and correct way? Thanks! int intAge; try { intAge = int.Parse(age); } catch (Exception) { MessageBox.Show("Enter an age in numbers!","Error!"); } finally { } // Check input if (intAge < 1) { inputOk = false; errorMessage = "Please enter 1 or higher!"; }

  • Unable to make WMI connection from XP Pro machine to another (not in domain, same workgroup) in C#

My code to connect is the following: ConnectionOptions options = new ConnectionOptions(); options.Username = myUsername; options.Password = myPassword; options.Authority = "ntdlmdomain:WORKGROUP"; // Commenting this or not makes no difference ManagementScope scope = new ManagementScope(String.Format("\\\\{0}\\{1}", hostname, Namespace), options); scope.Connect(); I always get a System.UnauthorizedAccessException with the text: "Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))" The above code works between two machines that are part of the same AD domain. What am I doing wrong?

  • How to add types from external assembly to toolbox control? (WPF)

    - by Louis Rhys
    I am trying to do something like this in my WPF application: ToolboxControl ctrl = new ToolboxControl(); Assembly assembly = Assembly.LoadFile(file); var category = new ToolboxCategory(assembly.GetName().Name); foreach (Type t in assembly.GetTypes()) { var wrapper = new ToolboxItemWrapper(t, t.Name); category.Add(wrapper); } ctrl.Categories.Add(category); i.e. adding ToolboxItemWrappers for each type found in an assembly. However the last line throws the following exception (see image) All dependencies of the external assembly are also referenced in the main (WPF) application. So what's wrong here and how to fix it?

The following is the line from my application.conf file (with user/pass/db replaced): db=mysql:username:password@databasename I also tried using the full JDBC configuration. Did I miss something? This worked just fine in 1.1.1. I'm running MySQL 5.1.41. Thanks.
