  • Floats in CSS - Gap/space left on top when floated to the right?

    - by bobthabuilda
This is a little difficult to describe, but basically there is undesired space left by a floated div on my page. Here are pictures describing the problem. The black boxes are divs. Before floating: After floating: Desired effect: And I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but I also have an empty div with "clear: both" placed immediately after the floated div. How can I achieve this?

  • how to create a 2 column to seperate label and input element in a form

    - by Blankman
My form looks like: ** <p><label>first name</label><input type=text name=fn /></p> <p><label>last name</label><input type=text name=ln /></p> </div> <div id="rightform"> <p><label>state</label><input type=text name=state /></p> <p><label>city</label><input type=text name=city /></p> </div> ** I want the layout so all the labels line up on the left (with the label text right-aligned), and the input box all lined up, floating to the left. So the form should look like: asdf-label INPUTBOX 123-label INPUTBOX yet-another-label INPUTBOX There will be another form on the right side of the above form (with the id=#rightform) Really confused how to do this properly...

  • Pulling data and printing it in an HTML table

    - by John
Hello, From a MySQL table called "submission" containing the fields "loginid, submissionid, title, url, datesubmitted, displayurl", I would like to print an HTML table thats contains all "title" and corresponding "datesubmitted" where "loginid" equals "$profile." The code I am trying to use is below. It isn't working. Any ideas why it isn't working? • Populating form fields with comma seperated strings in unordered list onclick with jQuery/Javascript

    - by RyanP13
Hi, I have an address lookup system which returns addresses in an unordered list like so: <p>Please select your address from the list below</p> <div id="selectAddress"> <ul> <li>HNO 412,addressLine2,addressLine8</li> <li>HNO 413,addressLine2,addressLine8</li> <li>HNO 414,addressLine2,addressLine8</li> </ul> </div> When someone clicks on an li containing the address i use the folloqing jQuery to split it and populate the following form fields. var $customerAddress = $("form#detailsForm input[name*='customerAddress']"); $("div#selectAddress ul li").click(function(){ $(this).removeClass("addressHover"); $("li.addressClick").removeClass("addressClick"); $(this).addClass("addressClick"); var $splitAddress = $(this).text().split(","); $($customerAddress).closest("tr").removeClass("hide"); $($customerAddress).each(function(){ var $inputCount = $(this).index($customerAddress); $(this).val($splitAddress[$inputCount]); }); $.cookies.set('cpqbAddressInputs', 'visible'); }); Form fields: <tr> <th> <label for="customerAddressLine1">Address&nbsp;*</label> </th> <td colspan="3"> <input type="text" name="customerAddressLine1" maxlength="40" value="" id="customerAddressLine1" class="text" /> </td> However it only seems to populate the first line of the address and not lines two and three. I could easily do this manually but i wanted to abstract it so that it could be expanded to cater for any amounts of address lines.

  • Defining Form Input with Dialog

    - by Workoholic
Hi. I want my php application to allow the user to select a file from their computer. I then want to store the file's path, but I don't want to upload the file. With the <input type="file" />, the file is uploaded, which would take too long. Is there a way to do this? Maybe if I change the input's type to text with jquery right before the form is sent? I could just let the user type the path, but that is not very convenient...

  • Browser history back with scrollable div

    - by plink
    When I Jump to section 1 & 2 everything works fine, and the browsers I tested (IE8, FF3.6, Chrome 5.0.342.3) scrolls down to the respective anchor in the div. But when I press the browser history back button the div won't scroll back up. Is there some way to make this work without using javascript ? <div id="scrolldiv" style="overflow:auto; width:500px; height:500px; border:2px solid #e1e1e1; "> <a href="#link1">Jump to section 1</a> <br /> <a href="#link2">Jump to section 2</a> <br /> <h1 id="link1" name="link1"> (and/or <a name="link1"></a> ) Section 1</h1> <p>lots of text<br />lots of text<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /></p> <h1 id="link2" name="link2"> (and/or <a name="link1"></a> ) Section 2</h1> <p>lots of text<br />lots of text<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /></p>

  • continuous music on website

    - by Patrick
Hi all, I'm against it as I'm sure ALL of you are, but my client wants background music on their website. I'm very new to this, so was wondering how should I do that? I know I should use iframes, but what's the actual way of using them? eg: do I just create the home page with 2 frames (one for the music, one for the rest of the website), and then every time the user clicks on a link I can load the usual destination page - or should I update all pages in some way to make sure they are 'frames enabled'? Also, I do I style the frame to make sure it's hidden? thanks, Patrick ps please don't reopen the discussion about why background music is not good - I do know that and personally hate it. But the client is adamant and paying for it so... ;)

  • Javascript - innerHTML not working with HTML select menus

    - by Deacon
Hi guys, In my HTML page I have 2 select menus with IDs "month" and "day" - "day" is empty when the page loads, "month" has 12 options with values 1-12 corresponding to January - December. "month" has an onchange event which calls this function: function showOutboundDays(month) { if(month==4 || month==6 || month==9 || month==11) document.getElementById('day').innerHTML='<option value="1">1</option><option value="2">2</option>'; etc. up to 30 else if(month==2) document.getElementById('day').innerHTML='<option value="1">1</option>'; etc. up to 28 else document.getElementById('day').innerHTML='<option value="1">1</option>'; etc. up to 31 } (just imagine there are braces around the option tags to help you see...) I think it's pretty clear to see what I'm trying to achieve...and everything works fine apart from the innerHTML of the select with ID "day" doesn't get filled at all, regardless of what month you pick. And I know the problem is with this stage of the function because when I change the if, elseif and else code-to-be-executed to alerts or something similar, it works fine. Does anybody know what the problem with the innerHTML is? Thanks EDIT: Using Firefox 3.6

  • Is there a workaround to Safari's/Opera's bug that you can't tab through hyperlinks?

    - by scunliffe
In IE, Firefox, Chrome and most Windows-based interfaces that I've used, the Tab key can be used to navigate from one form field or hyperlink to the next (e.g. "actionable" items) (note: I have not tested on other Operating Systems) However Safari and Opera skip all hyperlinks in a web page when tabbing. IMHO its a usability bug but I digress. Is there a workaround/hack to make Safari and/or Opera navigate through these links? I've noticed that Opera will accept the tabindex attribute if set e.g. tabindex="0" thus maintaining the links "index" within the flow of the DOM on the page... but Safari does not want to accept this. For those interested, this bit of jQuery will make all the hyperlinks clickable. //Make links 'tab-able' in Opera $(document).ready(function(){ if($.browser.opera){ $('a[href]').attr('tabindex', 0); } }); ...and although this seems to work for Opera... is there a better workaround?

  • Problem with detecting the value of the drop down list on the server (servlet) side

    - by Harry Pham
Client code is pretty simple: <form action="DDServlet" method="post"> <input type="text" name="customerText"> <select id="customer"> <option name="customerOption" value="3"> Tom </option> <option name="customerOption" value="2"> Harry </option> </select> <input type="submit" value="send"> </form> Here is the code on the Servlet Enumeration paramNames = request.getParameterNames(); while(paramNames.hasMoreElements()){ String paramName = (String)paramNames.nextElement(); //get the next element System.out.println(paramName); } When I print out, I only see, customerText, but not customerOption. Any idea why guys? What I hope is, if I select Tom in my option, once I submit, on my servlet I should able to do this: String paramValues[] = request.getParameterValues(paramName); and get back value of 3

  • Upload large files via a webpage

    - by Hultner
What way is the best way to let users upload large files from there webbrowser to a server. I'm talking 200MB+ possible up to a few gigatyes. I have been thinking of a few possible solutions to the problem (not tried them yet) and this is basically the things I came up with. Server download speed will not be a problem but the users connection possibly could. Having some sort of applet on the client side written in Java or Flash which sends the file in parts (is this possible with an applet) to a php/other script on the server and a checksum+ some other info about the file. On the server scripts all the parts and the info file is saved in a temporary directory wich has a unique name based on the checksum of the file and the ip of the user. When the last chunk is sent the applet sends a signal to the server saying it's finished and the server put the file together in the right location. If a chunk doesn't match the checksum for that part the server will send a response to the applet telling it to reupload that chunk. I don't know how important the checksum checking is since it's all tcpackages, someone with more insigth migth be able to answer on that. This is probably the worst way, changing the settings on your server to allow huge fileuploads via an inputfiel. Do it like a normal transfer. User an uploadmanager which does pretty much the same thing as applet i mentioned above. Pros of the first is probably that it would most likely be rather secure, you could show progress as well and possibly resume an upload if ip hasn't changed and do a threaded upload of the chunks. Cons of the first is that the user will need flash/java for it to work. Pros of the 2nd is that it will pretty much work for everyone but cons are big, first there's no way resuming an intruppted download and if something is wrong the whole file would have to be reuploaded is a few of cons. For the third one the pros is pretty muc the same as for the first but the cons is that the user would have to download an application to their computer and run and the application will have to be have to be compatible with their computer and OS. Another way may be a combination of two. Lets say an applet for bigger or more files and a simple input which is rather restricted to maybe max 10-20MB for smaller files and comability. There are probably other much smarter ways to tackle this and that's why I'm asking for advice here on SO.

  • Website column width

    - by keks
Hi, I am interested what column widths you would suggest for two-column and three-column websites. For example if we consider two-column layout (total width 1000px), some possible widths would be: 900-100, 800-200, 750-250, 700-300, 600-400. Which layout is best for usability, possible ad placements, widget integration?

  • Give style attributes to sub-elements inside a <style> tag?

    - by Giffyguy
My <style> for thumbnails currently looks like this: <style type="text/css"> img.TN { width: 100%; margin-bottom: 5.294%; cursor: pointer; } </style> This is annoying, because I have to apply this style to every single thumbnail image individually, when there could be any number of them on the screen at any given time. All of the thumbnails are inside a single <div> that groups them together, and I'd like to apply a single style to the <div> that will push the attributes I need down to all of the the <img> elements nested inside, regardless how many thumbnails there are. I'm using ASP.NET 2.0, and CSS 2.0 Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks!

  • Does form with enctype="multipart/form-data" cause problems accessing a hidden field

    - by Ankur
I have created a hidden form element <form name="UploadImage" enctype="multipart/form-data" method="post" action="UploadImage"> <label> </label> <input name="imgUploadObjId" id="imgUploadObjId" value="52" type="hidden"> //rest of the form here </form> And I am trying to get the value with this line in a servlet (as I have done before): int objId = Integer.parseInt(request.getParameter("imgUploadObjId")); But I get this (line 33 is the line above): java.lang.NumberFormatException: null java.lang.Integer.parseInt(Unknown Source) java.lang.Integer.parseInt(Unknown Source) web.objects.UploadImage.doPost(UploadImage.java:33) javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:637) javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:717) Is there something different about a form with enctype="multipart/form-data"? Or can you see some other error.
