  • URL Routing in Java

    Coming from other web frameworks, I'm used to being able to map parts of a URL to method parameters. I know that web.xml provides a way to map an entire URL to a Servlet but is there a way to get more features out of this, such as mapping pieces of the URL to method parameters?

  • Java generic Interface performance

    Simple question, but tricky answer I guess. Does using Generic Interfaces hurts performance? Example: public interface Stuff<T> { void hello(T var); } vs public interface Stuff { void hello(Integer var); <---- Integer used just as an example } My first thought is that it doesn't. Generics are just part of the language and the compiler will optimize it as though there were no generics (at least in this particular case of generic interfaces). Is this correct?

  • loading an image from a package in Java (JFrame)

    i'm having a problem loading an image from a package i created in the project that was set to contain images, i have to write the whole picture location in the computer instead of just the package that contains it. i've tried several things but nothing seams to work... where is the command i use to load the image : searchBar = ImageIO.read(new File("C:\\Users\\ASUS\\Documents\\NetBeansProjects\\Project\\src\\Images\\search.jpg")); "Images" is a package in my project , this works, but when i try loading the image without the "C:\..." only with the "\Images..." it doesn't , so i have to change it every time i open this project in another computer. hopefully one of u has the answer for me , thanks in advance for any answer :)

    This is NOT a question about which is the best framework, etc. I have never used a mocking framework and I'm a bit puzzled by the idea. How does it know how to create the mock object? Is it done in runtime or generates a file? How do you know its behavior? And most importantly - what is the work flow of using such a framework (what is the step-by-step for creating a test). Can anyone explain? You can choose whichever framework you like for example, just say what it is.

    I am using LinkedList and retrieving an Iterator object by using list.iterator(). After that, I am checking it.hasNext(), real issue is while checking it.hasNext(), sometimes it returns false.     This code seems to work fine class Rule<T> { public <T>Rule(T t) { } public <T> void Foo(T t) { } } Does the method type parameter shadow the class type parameter? Also when you create an object does it use the type parameter of the class? example Rule<String> r = new Rule<String>(); Does this normally apply to the type parameter of the class, in the situation where they do not conflict? I mean when only the class has a type parameter, not the constructor, or does this look for a type parameter in the constructor? If they do conflict how does this change? SEE DISCUSSION BELOW if I have a function call x = <Type Parameter>method(); // this is a syntax error even inside the function or class ; I must place a this before it, why is this, and does everything still hold true. Why don't I need to prefix anything for the constructor call. Shouldn't Oracle fix this.

    Does anyone now how to achieve a "Secure-Desktop Mode" (effect) such as one gets from the Windows Vista/7 UAC consent-blocks? I assume it is some function which will remove pixels here-and-there (and possibly graying them) and then finally drawing that to screen... I would like to apply it to my application to keep the user from doing anything until the another user connects to the system (but that is besides the point) I would really appreciate the advise.   • Slowing process creation under Java?

    I have a single, large heap (up to 240GB, though in the 20-40GB range for most of this phase of execution) JVM [1] running under Linux [2] on a server with 24 cores. We have tens of thousands of objects that have to be processed by an external executable & then load the data created by those executables back into the JVM. Each executable produces about half a megabyte of data (on disk) that when read right in, after the process finishes, is, of course, larger. Our first implementation was to have each executable handle only a single object. This involved the spawning of twice as many executables as we had objects (since we called a shell script that called the executable). Our CPU utilization would start off high, but not necessarily 100%, and slowly worsen. As we began measuring to see what was happening we noticed that the process creation time [3] continually slows. While starting at sub-second times it would eventually grow to take a minute or more. The actual processing done by the executable usually takes less than 10 seconds. Next we changed the executable to take a list of objects to process in an attempt to reduce the number of processes created. With batch sizes of a few hundred (~1% of our current sample size), the process creation times start out around 2 seconds & grow to around 5-6 seconds. Basically, why is it taking so long to create these processes as execution continues?     Hi, I have a string like this String str = "la$le\$li$lo". I want to split it to get the following output "la","le\$li","lo". The \$ is a $ escaped so it should be left in the output. But when I do str.split("[^\\\\]\\$") y get "l","le\$l","lo". From what I get my regex is matching a$ and i$ and removing then. Any idea of how to get my characters back? Thanks

    I'm making a BMI calculator that doesn't seem to be working. The math operations work if i just do something like w/h, but once i had the brackets, it returns an error. If i change the variables w and h and use a constant number, the operation works. Another problem is that although i'm making result a double, it seems to be rounding to the nearest int. If I just do nextInt() n times, each time ensuring that the parameter is 100 minus the previously accumulated sum, then my percentages are biased (i.e. the first generated number will usually be largest etc.).
