• How to Correct & Improve the Design of this Code?

  HI Guys, I've been working on a little experiement to see if I could create a helper method to serialize any of my types to any type of HTML tag I specify. I'm getting a NullReferenceException when _writer = _viewContext.Writer; is called in protected virtual void Dispose(bool disposing) {/*...*/} I think I'm at a point where it almost works (I've gotten other implementations to work) and I was wondering if somebody could point out what I'm doing wrong? Also, I'd be interested in hearing suggestions on how I could improve the design? • Reusing my PagedList object on WCF

  The problem: I have a custom collection PagedList<T> that is being returned from my WCF service as PagedListOfEntitySearchResultW_SH0Zpu5 when T is EntitySearchResult object. I want to reuse this PagedList<T> type between the application and the service. My scenario: I've created a PagedList<T> type that inherits from List<T>. This type is on a separated assembly that is referenced on both application and WCF service. I'm using the /reference option on the scvutil to enable the type reusing. I also don't want any arrays returned so I also use the /collection to map to the generic List type. • JDBC Lock a row using SELECT FOR UPDATE, doesn't work

  I am having issues with MySQL's SELECT .. FOR UPDATE, here is the query I am trying to run: SELECT * FROM tableName WHERE HostName='UnknownHost' ORDER BY UpdateTimestamp asc limit 1 FOR UPDATE After this, the concerned thread will do an UPDATE and change the HostName, which is then it should unlock the row. I am running a multi-threaded java application, so 3 threads are running this SQL statement, but when thread 1 runs this, it doesn't lock its results from thread 2 & 3. Therefore threads 2 & 3 are getting the same results and they could update the same row. Also each thread is on its own mysql connection. I'm using Innodb, with transaction-isolation = READ-COMMITTED, and the Autocommit is off before executing the select for update may I miss something? OR perhaps there is a better solution? • Android - Resuming application state - SL4A

  please dont harpoon me for a noob-ish question. I am working on an android application using SL4A, when my application starts it runs in the background while the script is being executed. I'm not sure where to start but each time I click my icon, it re-starts my application. I have tried using different launchmodes with nothing different happening. I'm thinking it has to do with the OnCreate code, and the setting of the notification. I need help saving my application state and then resuming on either re-click of icon or click from notification bar. I've tried everything had to turn here for help. I am not a pro at android programming by any means. • COM port read - Thread remains alive after timeout occurs

  Hello to all. I have a dll which includes a function called ReadPort that reads data from serial COM port, written in c/c++. This function is called within an extra thread from another WINAPI function using the _beginthreadex. When COM port has data to be read, the worker thread returns the data, ends normaly, the calling thread closes the worker's thread handle and the dll works fine. However, if ReadPort is called without data pending on the COM port, when timeout occurs then WaitForSingleObject returns WAIT_TIMEOUT but the worker thread never ends. As a result, virtual memory grows at about 1 MB every time, physical memory grows some KBs and the application that calls the dll becomes unstable. I also tryied to use TerminateThread() but i got the same results. I have to admit that although i have enough developing experience, i am not familiar with c/c++. I did a lot of research before posting but unfortunately i didn't manage to solve my problem. Does anyone have a clue on how could i solve this problem? However, I really want to stick to this kind of solution. Also, i want to mention that i think i can't use any global variables to use some kind of extra events, because each dll's functions may be called many times for every COM port.   I try to get rounded corners on a UIImage, what I read so far, the easiest way is to use a mask images. For this I used code from TheElements iPhone Example and some image resize code I found. Pretty much it's just the US and current/former US influenced areas (Palau, Micronesia, Philippines) + Belize & Canada that use the funky MM/DD/YYYY format (I am American, so I can call it funky =). So one could rightly argue that if the Locale is not "en-us"/etc. first, then DD/MM/YYYY should be used. Thoughts? As a side note... I "grew up" in PERL but it's been a wee while since I've done much heavy lifting in RegEx. Does that expression look right to everyone? This seems like a lot of work, but based on my research this is indeed about the best way to go about enabling DD/MM/YYYY dates within JavaScript. Is there an easier/more betterer way? • Setting a DataGrid background color based on the previous row

  I'm trying to setup a grid where I do column sorting, but I wanted to do zebra striping, only rather than every other row or every x rows, I want it to be based on the value of cells. i.e. All cells that contain 0 have a blue background, the next value would have a white background, the next value would be blue, etc.... The problem I have is that I can't seem to find where to actually do the setting of the background colors. I'm using a custom sorter and I tried setting it in there after I re-order the list and set the data source, but it appears that when the data source is set, that the rows don't exist yet. I tried using the DataContextChanged, but that event doesn't seem to be firing. • Use of select or multithread for almost 80 or more clients?

  I am working on one project in which i need to read from 80 or more clients and then write their o/p into a file continuously and then read these new data for another task. My question is what should i use select or multithreading? Also I tried to use multi threading using read/fgets and write/fputs call but as they are blocking calls and one operation can be performed at one time so it is not feasible. Any idea is much appreciated. update 1: I have tried to implement the same using condition variable. I able to achieve this but it is writing and reading one at a time.When another client tried to write then it cannot able to write unless i quit from the 1st thread. I do not understand this. Essentially, I want each call to the AsyncTask to run, eventually in an infinite while loop, and update the TextView fields as I have attempted in setValues. I have tried since yesterday after asking a question which led to this code, for reference. Oh yes, I did try using the AsyncTask get() method, but that didn't work either as I found out that it is actually a synchronous call, and renders the whole point of AsyncTask useless.

  I'm studying C on my own in preparation for my upcoming semester of school and was wondering what I was doing wrong with my code so far. If Things look weird it is because this is part of a much bigger grab bag of sorting functions I'm creating to get a sense of how to sort numbers,letters,arrays,and the like! I'm basically having some troubles with the manipulation of strings in C currently. Also, I'm quite limited in my knowledge of C at the moment! When I use fgets() it's doing this thing where I get a null word for the first spot of the array. I have had other issues recently trying to scanf() char[] in certain ways specifically spacing my input word variables which "magically" gets rid of the first null space before the character. An example of this is using scanf() to write "Hello" and getting " Hello" or " ""Hello"... Appreciate any thoughts on this, I've got all summer to study up so this doesn't need to be answered with haste! Also, thank you stack overflow as a whole for being so helpful in the past. This may be my first post, but I have been a frequent visitor for the past couple of years and it's been one of the best places for helpful advice/tips.

  I'm just getting started in Java and am looking for advice on a good way to store nested sets of data. For example, I'm interested in storing city population data that can be accessed by looking up the city in a given state. (Note: eventually, other data will be stored with each city as well, this is just the first attempt at getting started.) The current approach I'm using is to have a StateList Object which contains a HashMap that stores State Objects via a string key (i.e. HashMap<String, State>). Each State Object contains its own HashMap of City Objects keyed off the city name (i.e. HashMap<String, City>).   I'm using multiple datepicker on same grid and I face the problem to get a proper result. I used 3 datepicker in 1 grid. Only the first datepicker (Order Date)is able to output proper result while the other 2 datepicker (Start Date & End Date) are not able to generate proper result. There is no problem with the query, so could you find out what's going on here? I have been implementing a simple threadpool using the tinythread C++ portable thread library, using what I have learnt from Stackoverflow. How can I do it?? In this post the user had the same problem. I tried to use the solution that worked for him but it didn't work for me.   In my web-application, I have various audio clips uploaded by the users in the database stored in the BLOB column. The audio files are low bit rate WAV files. The clips are secured, one can see only those clips he has uploaded. Instead of user downloading the clip and playing it in his player, I need it be steamed online in the web page itself. In the jsp I use the <audio> tag with the source mapping to the controller mappping url. <td> <audio controls><source src="recfile/${au.id}" type="audio/mpeg" /></audio> </td> Where, the recfile is the request mapping and the au.id is the audio id.
