• Why can't my jsp page read chinese chars from mysql? [migrated]

  The mysql chars is utf-8, and the jsp page is also set to utf-8. I use the method: DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/jsptest?"+"useUnicode=true&characterEncoding=UTF-8","root",""); But it can not be use. When I insert Chinese chars into mysql and select it out, that would be proper functioning. The question is when I select some Chinese chars that I write into mysql at first, it would be all the "?" at the Chinese char place! Please watch the picture:

  We've been examining a number of different SEO tools recently. Several of these tell us that some of our page title's, urls and meta descriptions are too long. We've also been told that some of our pages have too many links on them. I guess our first question is - is any of that feedback true! • Enabling and Disabling Colliders Unity

  I'm trying to make the collider appear every 1 second. But I can't get the code write. I tried enabling the collider under a boolean and putting a yield to make it every second or so. But it's not working(gives me an error: Update() can not be a coroutine.). How would I fix this? • Why does IDLE continue to crash? [migrated]

  Idle keeps crashing and I can't figure it out. After restarting the computer and reinstalling Python, none of which seemed to work, I looked to my peers and was told to "install one of the Tcl/Tk". After getting another opinion I was also told that I already had this and found it to be true but decided to try it anyway since it continued to crash. Nothing has improved and I have an assignment due. Any ideas on why this continues to happen and what I can do to fix the crash? One thing missing is HTML Tidy integration, until now: As you can see, in this particular file, HTML Tidy finds 6 times more problems (OK, some of them maybe false negatives) than the standard NetBeans HTML hint infrastructure does. You can also run the scanner across the whole project or all projects. Only HTML files will be scanned by HTML Tidy (via JTidy) and you can click on items in the window above to jump to the line.   With all the programming languages that are out there, what exactly does it mean to program in the small and is it still possible, without the possibility of re-purposing to the large. The original article which mentions in the small was dated to 1975 and referred to scripting languages (as glue languages). Maybe I am missing the point, but any language that you can built components of code out of, I would regard to being able to handle "in the large". Is there a confusion on what Objects are and do they really figure as being mandatory to being able to handle "the large". Many have argued that this is the true meaning of "In the large" and that the concepts of objects are best fit for the job.

  Our site currently is going to require our users to download a player to view videos they will want to view on our site. The videos get uploaded by users from various sources (smartphones in 3gp format for example). However most people have Flash on their machines. I am trying to 'make a gentle stand' and tell the team that requiring a download of a video player is not acceptable. My thinking is this: instead of allowing people to upload 3gp and other formats then re-serving the exact format on REQUESTs from our site's users we will instead use a video converter such as FFMpeg to convert every uploaded video to FLV for viewing on flash. so when a user requests to view one of the videos on our site -- boom they probably already have Flash installed so we just play the video in their Flash player. I feel serving up FLV flash video is best. Does it ring true that requiring, say, a 3gp player download just to view a video is the wrong approach?

  This Gridview sample shows how to, for each row, based on other data within that row, to show a different image. We do this by creating a TemplateField, and putting an ASP.Net Image control within it, called 'Image1'. Then, inside the RowDataBound event of the Gridview, we put code, which first, checks and finds the Image control in that row, and then assigning a different JPG file to the ImageURL property of that image. One other thing here, you'll notice, is that when the criteria is matched, we set the Image control's Visible property to 'True'. That's because, one extra criteria is, that if the Units In Stock is larger than 80, we set the Image control's Visible property to 'False'. Naturally, since we're checking one particular column in the Gridview for this data, we're using a Select Case statement.

  I've worked with SharePoint for some time now, and I like to think that I know all there is to know about it.  Deep down I know that's not true, but it's a fun delusion.  However, I found out yesterday that there is a mechanism in SharePoint called the Scenario Framework that has been around for a while but that I had no idea ever existed.  It is used to maintain state between multi-page web forms and helps manage the navigation between those pages.  If building out multiple-page forms in SharePoint is in your plans, you can find more information about the Scenario Framework on Waldek Mastykarz blog entry on the subject.

  I've used article tags on websites. My understanding and practice is to use the article tag for publication content. I always use HTML/HTML5 tags as their intended purposes and not at will. Recently, I've seen an HTML template that uses the article tag for the non-publication page content such as the content of an About Us page or any other generic page. I asked the why it was used this way and the (vague) explanation was that it had to do with the way the iPad read the tag. Is this true?

• How to create website shortcuts on the desktop / in a folder using Chrome?

  Help with something really basic, which I am unable to figure out. In Windows creating a shortcut (link) for a website is as easy as dragging-and-dropping the favicon/address bar to the desktop or a folder. I tried the same in Ubuntu (Chrome browser), but it's not working. The web page is being saved as a file, but not as a link/shortcut. Am I missing something or is there no way to quickly create shortcuts to web pages/web sites without installing some app for that? If the above is true, is there an app that does what I need? I hope I am clear enough.

• Ubuntu Server 11.10 AMD64: Installation of graphical desktop changes kernel!?

  I've a Ubuntu Server 11.10 amd64 installation that needed a graphical desktop to execute some visual apps. While searching for the correct way to achive this, I noticed that there was a lot of people saying that invoquing the gnome desktop installation (apt-get install ubuntu-desktop) would switch from server to desktop kernel. Is this true!? I've checked and the kernel seems to remain unchanged after the install. I need to be sure of this because the desktop flavoured kernel doesn't seem to support the ServeRaid 8K controller sitting on my IBM server and I have no ideia on how to enable support for it. (I'll be grateful if someone could point me a good guide on how to install ubuntu when the storage controller is not detected) Any comment on this matter will be greatly appreciated! Good linuxing!

• Getting trayer to work with dual screen setup

  I'm using XMonad as my window manager, and want to use trayer as a icon panel for things like nm-applet. The problem was that the panel wouldn't appear on the top of the screen. If I set it to the bottom it just appeared. After a lot of trying, I found out it is because my xorg.conf is setup for dualscreens, and probably the trayer panel is spawned outside my view (I currently have only a single screen, but I switch a lot). After manualy tweaking the xorg.conf file to allow for just one screen, the panel appears on the right spot. These are the things I had to modify: Section "Monitor" Identifier "0-LVDS" Option "VendorName" "ATI Proprietary Driver" Option "ModelName" "Generic Autodetecting Monitor" Option "DPMS" "true" Option "PreferredMode" "1366x768" Option "TargetRefresh" "60" Option "Position" "0 0" # Was 1280 256 Option "Rotate" "normal" Option "Disable" "false" EndSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Virtual 1366 768 # Was 2646 2646 Depth 24 EndSubSection The problem is ofcourse that I can't use my dual screen setup anymore. • iOS App Store Under 18 - Post via private limited company? [closed]

  I'm 17 years old and wish to post an application on the iOS App Store. My situation is a little different to other users doing the same thing, though. I'm finding this very frustrating. It's very annoying that Apple don't let younger talent post themselves. Is it true that if I do post under my Father's name I can choose a different name to be listed on the app store? I want to keep this professional, I don't want my father's name to appear underneath the application on the store. :P I have registered myself as the company director of a private limited company. Even though I'm the only one in the company, is this a way to bypass the 18+ restriction or do I need a minimum of 2 employees? Why the hell has this been closed? Thanks

• disable password prompt on user switch?

  I've got 11.10 on a desktop machine with two users. Both users have "Password" set to "Not asked on login" in Users Settings. At startup, either user can log in without a password. But once both users are logged in, it takes a password to switch between users. In previous Ubuntus, you could override this by setting /desktop/gnome/lockdown/disable_lock_screen to True in gconf-editor. That is ignored in the Gnome 3 / Unity era. Does anyone know a way to disable the password prompt when switching between users in Oneiric?

They said: In Java there are more methods, you don't need to code more as in C/C++. After finishing core concepts in Java, I just passed on with more method usages from pre-defined classes in packages. So what's the next part I have to do, if the above mentioned is perfectly true (or) false based on the current expectations of IT Java programmers market?
