• Telugu (unicode) font rendering in emacs

  [I asked the following question in stackoverflow, and I have been redirected here. I hope I can get some answers here. My question at stackoverflow had two small images showing the example rendering of text. As a new user at superuser, I am not being allowed to include them here, nor I am allowed to post more than one hyperlink. And, I don't have enough reputation on SO to migrate that question. Please look at the stackoverflow question for the images. Sorry about the inconvenience.] I sometimes edit text in telugu language. However, when I open the file (UTF-8 encoded) in GNU emacs (version 23.1.50.1 on Ubuntu Jaunty) the text rendering is incorrect. The same text file opened in gedit is rendered correctly. • Remove directory from URL IIS 7.5

  I've tried to find a solution to this and found some guides out there but none seem to work. I have the following URL - http://www.mysite.com/aboutus.html However there are some other sites which link to my old hosted site and point to http://www.mysite.com/nw/aboutus.html. My issue here is trying to remove the 'nw' directory from the URL's. • Delete cell content in Libre (Open) Office based on the cell value

  I have a huge csv file (tens of thousands of rows) that I need to filter based on different criteria. After trying to find a proper CSV editor, I decided to use LibreOffice Calc. CSVed is great, but it doesn't support neither UTF-8 nor macros for advanced filtering. So, there are 4 columns, 3 of which contain numbers (with decimal numbers) and 1 of which contains text. I'm trying to find a way to delete rows with a macro code. I can achieve the desired behavior with filters too, but it's annoying to type all of the filtering values over and over again and there doesn't seem to be a way to export the filter and us it repeatedly. These rows should be deleted: The ones that don't contain certain words in textual column (column A). There are a few thousand different words used in that column and I want to keep only the rows that contain one of about 30 words in that column. Additionally, the number is the other columns should be bigger than 3.8 (column B), 4.5 (column C) and smaller than 20 (column C). The row-deletion type is "Shift up". Hopefully I have explained it well. Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

  I am trying to pass a PCI compliance test, and I'm getting a single "high risk vulnerability". The problem is described as: Information on the machine which a web server is located is sometimes included in the header of a web page. Under certain circumstances that information may include local information from behind a firewall or proxy server such as the local IP address. So, I'm guessing I need to either hide or replace the Location header somehow? I'm a programmer and not a server admin so I have no idea what to do... Any help would be greatly appreciated! Also, might I add that we're running more than 1 server, so the configuration would need to be transferable to any server with any private address.

  So I followed the "Chroot and Debian" tutorial in http://sublimation.org/scponly/wiki/index.php/FAQ Then when I log into user "upload" via ssh I have no access to the command line (this is what I wanted). But then when I SFTP into the upload user I can still see all the root files (/), it didn't chroot me to just /home/upload whats going on? …. I added this to the end of my /etc/ssh/sshd_config file, then done a restart Subsystem sftp internal-sftp UsePAM yes Match User upload ChrootDirectory /home/upload AllowTCPForwarding no X11Forwarding no ForceCommand internal-sftp Then when I log into sftp I can only see my upload folder (this is what I want), but now scp doesn't work :P SCP will accept my password then: debug1: Next authentication method: password [email protected]'s password: debug1: Authentication succeeded (password). debug1: channel 0: new [client-session] debug1: Requesting [email protected] debug1: Entering interactive session. debug1: Sending environment. debug1: Sending env LANG = en_NZ.UTF-8 debug1: Sending command: scp -v -t /test It will hang on that last debug message. • Compare-Object gives false differences

  I have some problem with Compare-Object. My task is to get difference between two directory snapshots made at different times. First snapshot is taken like this: ls -recurse d:\dir | export-clixml dir-20100129.xml Then, later, I get second snapshot and load both of them: $b = (import-clixml dir-20100130.xml) $a = (import-clixml dir-20100129.xml) Next, I'm trying to compare with Compare-Object, like that: diff $a $b What I get is in some places files that were added to $b since $a, but in some -- files that were in both snapshots, and some files, that were added to $b, are not given in Compare-Object output. Puzzling, but $b.count - $a.count is EXACTLY the same as (diff $a $b).count. Why is that? Ok, Compare-Object has -property param. I try to use that: diff -property fullname $a $b And I get the whole mess of differences: it shows me ALL the files. For example, say $a contains: A\1.txt A\2.txt A\3.txt And $b contains: X\2.mp3 X\3.mp3 X\4.mp3 A\1.txt A\2.txt A\3.txt diff output is something like that: X\2.mp3 => A\1.txt <= X\3.mp3 => A\2.txt <= X\4.mp3 => A\3.txt <= A\1.txt => A\2.txt => A\3.txt => Weird. I think I don't understand something crucial about Compare- Object usage, and manuals are scarce... Please, help me to get the DIFFERENCE between two directory snapshots. • Cannot ssh into server

  I am trying to SSH into a linux machine running ubuntu, but the interactive shell stuck somewhere and I can't key in anything. I am on Mac OS X Lion. This only happens when I am trying to access via an external IP. Local LAN SSH is working perfectly. macbook:~ user$ ssh -v -v user@serverip // i skipped the rest of the log, but I can paste it here again if needed. I checked var/log/auth on the server and saw that the a session is being created and I had already logged in, but I don't see any responses on my client machine. I googled around and a lot of the solution had to do with the Broadcom wireless driver, but I am not even using one, so I am pretty clueless here. To give you more information, the linux machine is also running a web server, and I have no problem accessing the web server. Thanks. Any help is appreciated.

• Strange issue in header location redirect

  I have three websites hosted (example1.com, example2.com, example3.com) on a server. There is a page (test.php) on example1.com with just code below inside it: <?php header('Location:http://example2.com/a.php'); ?> When I browse test.php it goes to http://example1.com/a.php . it doesn't understand it is another domain url, it tried to find the page on itself. but when I put http://google.com instead of example2.com/a.php it works correct. I really get confused. What is the problem ? Should I set some configuration on the server? ( I am administrator of the hosting server ). Ps. The server is behind a pound server. • Unusual HEAD requests to nonsense URLs from Chrome

  I have noticed unusual traffic coming from my workstation the last couple of days. I am seeing HEAD requests sent to random character URLs, usually three or four within a second, and they appear to be coming from my Chrome browser. The requests repeat only three or four times a day, but I have not identified a particular pattern. The URL characters are different for each request. I have since removed both of these, but am still seeing the traffic. I have run virus scan (Trend Micro) and HiJackThis looking for malicious code, but I have not found any. I would appreciate any help tracking down the source of the requests, so I can determine if they are benign, or indicative of a bigger problem. Thanks.

• Strange Behaviour with Unicode Characters in Windows

  Ok, I do not know if this is a programming question, but it certainly is a technical one so I am asking it here. I was working on some internationalization stuff in my PHP code, and in order to ensure that my generated HTML shows up Unicode correctly based on the encoding and stuff I decided to add some Chinese text to my PHP page, which then echoes it into the browser to complete my test case. So I went into google and typed "Chinese", copied the first Chinese text that the search returned (which was ??/??). I then copied it into Notepad++ which is my editor, and to my surprise showed up as boxes similar to [][]/[][]. So I thought the encoding in Notepad++ was messed up and I changed the encoding to UTF-8 and UCS, neither worked. I did it fresh in a newly encoded file, still I got the boxes. The same content when I paste into Google and StackOverFlow (like I did in this posting) shows up correct Chinese! I even opened up Windows Clipboard Viewer and the content is represented in the Clipboard as boxes! I tried pasting it into Windows Explorer address bar and using to rename a file to, but I still get boxes. But it shows up correctly when pasted into my Chrome Browser address bar! Is this a Windows issue? Since I am able to paste it correctly in SO, the data in memory should be encoded correctly right? But if that is the case why does it show up as boxes in the Clipboard Viewer? I am confused here...By the way I am using Windows XP with SP3. (I am asking this question here, even if it is not programmatic, because it is preventing me from running my programming test cases..)

• Why is there an extra HDD under /dev being added in my Linux Kernel?

  I have created a Linux kernel and for some reason an extra drive is always added at bootup. My hard drive is listed as /dev/sdb. /dev/sda is created too, and it is 8 MB in size. I can't find anything in the kernel config that is creating this, but if I use a different kernel it is not there. Kernel logs show it as an attached SCSI device, looks just like my hard drive but only 8 MB, and has no partition table. It also doesn't appear to be a physical device. I've tried the kernel on many different models of PCs and it is always there. • Different font SIZES in a Text Editor, based on Script(Alphabet) type (ie. per Unicode Code-Block)

  Some non-Latin-based scripts(alphabets) have more detail in their glyphs than do the Latin-based-script equivalents, and typically need a larger font to give the same degree of legibility (resolution-wise). Sometimes, both script types need to be present in the same file. Notepad++ allows different font SIZES (and colour, etc) courtesy of syntax-highlighting. This allows me to display larger-fonted non-Latin-based script in a // BIG-FONT comment. Although this has been quite handy for me in some situations, it is quite limited. A Word Processor can handle this scenario, but I'm not interested in that. I want a nice simple(?) plain(?) Text Editor to do it... on a per script-type basis... eg. mixing Latin-1 and Devanagari (and Mandarin, and ... Such a thing may not exits, but Notepad++ has shown that a simple(?) plain(?) Text Editor is capable of it. Does anyone know of such a Text Editor? ...Q. Why not a Word Processor? ...A. Because GCC and Python don't like that format! but UTF-8 is fine.

• Apt-Get Update: failure to fetch; can't connect to any sources

  I realize there are dozens of "apt-get update: failure to fetch" questions (I read through all I could find), but my present circumstance is unique to 12.04 and it affects all sources; not just launchpad. Additionally, I've tried several different servers in Europe and the U.S. as well as the "main server" (wherever that is) and they all yield the same result: I can't connect to any software sources. Additionally, I'm fairly certain the problem stems from the upgrade from 11.10-12.04 I performed this morning, as updates worked immediately before.
