• Android: Strange out of memory issue

  I am not sure where to start to explain this one. I have a list view with a couple image buttons on each row. When you click the list row, it launches a new activity. If you review some of my other posts, I have had to build my own tabs because of an issue w/ the camera layout. The activity that gets launched for result is a map. If I click on my button to launch the image preview (load an image off the sd card) the application returns from the activity back to the listview activity to the result handler to relaunch my new activity which is nothing more than an image widget. So here is the issue, the image preview on the list view is being done w/ the cursor & listadapter. This makes it pretty simple, but I am not sure how I can put a resized (i.e. smaller bit size not pixel) image as the src for the imgbutton on the fly. So I just resized the image that came off the phone camera. The issue is that I get an out of memory error when it tries to go back and re-launch the 2nd activity. ** My question : is there a way I can build the list adapter easily row by row, where I can resize on the fly (bit wise)? - this would be preferable as I also need to make some changes to the properties of the widgets/elements in each row as I am unable to select a row w/ touch screen b/c of focus issue. (I can use roller ball). ** I know I can do an out of band resize and save of my image, but that is not really what I want to do, but some sample code for that would be nice if that is your suggestion. As soon as I disabled the image on the listview it worked fine again. • Windows Azure : Server Error , 404 - File or directory not found.

  I want to upload some files of size 35MB on to the blob container. I have coded for splitting the data into blocks and upload it on to the blob container and form a blob using PUT. I tested the code for some files of Size 2MB or something... It worked well. But When I tried it for a large MB file, its giving me this error Server Error 404 - File or directory not found. The resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. when I tried it for files of size 6MB, it gives me this error.. • SQL Server 08 Express error when connecting to localhost - "Timeout expired". Works with ::1 or 127

  EDIT New info: Navigating to localhost:1434 in Chrome gives me an "ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE", while other ports give me an "Oops! This link appears to be broken". So it seems to binding ok there? So here's my setup so far: I've configured Windows Firewall to allow TCP on 1433 and UDP on 1434. I've set up SQL Server to use any IP on Port 1433 (using the SQL Server Configuration Manager). My hosts file contains the default entries ("127.0.0.1 localhost" and "::1 localhost"). I sometimes have a debug session of Visual Web Developer running a webserver, but it's on a specific port (localhost:5XXXX). What I've tried: I CAN ping localhost in a cmd prompt. I CAN connect to the database through SSMS if I specify 127.0.0.1 or ::1 as the server name. I CAN'T connect to the database through SSMS (or ADO.NET) if I specify localhost as the server name. I've tried both Windows and SQL Authentication The error I get is the standard Can't connect to localhost. Additional Information -- Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. (Microsoft Sql Server) Other considerations: Stopping the Visual Web Developer web server from the taskbar doesn't affect the sql problem. The SQL error log says that it's listening on some piped name url at start up (I don't see how this would affect localhost but not 127.0.0.1 though). I could probably just use 127.0.0.1 everywhere, but it scares me that localhost isn't working and I'd like to figure out why. I'm not much of a networking or sql server guy so I'm stuck. If you want me to try anything to help diagnose just put it in a comment and I'll give it a go. • How to create a new LaTeX command that behaves something like \verb?

  I have been using LaTeX from sometime now, but have never actually gotten my hands dirty declaring a new command, as I try to avoid that. However, I need to add monospace text often in my document and I use \verb for it which is fine, except that the verb font size is bigger than the normal text font. So I need to change the font size and undo done like \small{}\verb#My monospace code#\normalsize{}. This is not very convenient and mistake-prone. Is there a better way to do this? Can I define a new command for this? How?

  We continue building our report in this three part series. Creating an ASP.NET report using Visual Studio 2010 - Part 1 Creating an ASP.NET report using Visual Studio 2010 - Part 3 Creating the Client Report Definition file (RDLC) Add a folder called “RDLC”. This will hold our RDLC report.   Right click on the RDLC folder, select “Add new item..” and add an “RDLC” name of “Products”. We will use the “Report Wizard” to walk us through the steps of creating the RDLC.   In the next dialog, give the dataset a name called “ProductDataSet”. Change the data source to “NorthwindReports.DAL” and select “ProductRepository(GetProductsProjected)”. The fields that are returned from the method are shown on the right. Click next.   Drag and drop the ProductName, CategoryName, UnitPrice and Discontinued into the Values container. Note that you can create much more complex grouping using this UI. Click Next.   Most of the selections on this screen are grayed out because we did not choose a grouping in the previous screen. Click next. Choose a style for your report. Click next. The report graphic design surface is now visible. Right click on the report and add a page header and page footer. With the report design surface active, drag and drop a TextBox from the tool box to the page header. Drag one more textbox to the page header. We will use the text boxes to add some header text as shown in the next figure. You can change the font size and other properties of the textboxes using the formatting tool bar (marked in red). You can also resize the columns by moving your cursor in between columns and dragging. Adding Expressions Add two more text boxes to the page footer. We will use these to add the time the report was generated and page numbers. Right click on the first textbox in the page footer and select “Expression”. Add the following expression for the print date (note the = sign at the left of the expression in the dialog below) "© Northwind Traders " & Format(Now(),"MM/dd/yyyy hh:mm tt") Right click on the second text box and add the following for the page count.   Globals.PageNumber & " of " & Globals.TotalPages Formatting the page footer is complete.   We are now going to format the “Unit Price” column so it displays the number in currency format.  Right click on the [UnitPrice] column (not header) and select “Text Box Properties..” Under “Number”, select “Currency”. Hit OK. Adding a chart With the design surface active, go to the toolbox and drag and drop a chart control. You will need to move the product list table down first to make space for the chart contorl. The document can also be resized by dragging on the corner or at the page header/footer separator. In the next dialog, pick the first chart type. This can be changed later if needed. Click OK. The chart gets added to the design surface.   Click on the blue bars in the chart (not legend). This will bring up drop locations for dropping the fields. Drag and drop the UnitPrice and CategoryName into the top (y axis) and bottom (x axis) as shown below. This will give us the total unit prices for a given category. That is the best I could come up with as far as what report to render, sorry :-) Delete the legend area to get more screen estate. Resize the chart to your liking. Change the header, x axis and y axis text by double clicking on those areas. We made it this far. Let’s impress the client by adding a gradient to the bar graph :-) Right click on the blue bar and select “Series properties”. Under “Fill”, add a color and secondary color and select the Gradient style. We are done designing our report. • BlackBerry Horizontal Scrolling in TreeField or ListField

  I am working on an application that requires text larger than the viewable screen size in both a TreeField and a ListField. As you know, the TreeField and ListField callbacks support only graphics.drawText() methods, so I cannot add an instance of a Field per row. Does anyone have a method of Scrolling horizontally past the viewable text size? Is there maybe a scrollable panel that would work? I know of the NullField(Field.Focusable) trick but this won't work on the list field. Lastly, I am aware that the type of screen makes a different as FullScreen and MainScreen use VerticalFieldMangers. So am using a PopupScreen at the moment for my testing. But if you not need to unit test your Routes and don't care about restart Application Domian during editing your Routes then global.asax file is the fastest and easiest to achieve the same. In this Article I will use Global.asax file instead of Global.asax.cs file for defining Routes and you will also see how this whole process will works.   Description :          You just need to Cut (or Copy) the code inside Global.asax.cs and paste it in Global.asax inside runat server tag.          You can simply do this by cutting the code of Global.asax.cs,          and paste it inside Global.asax,               Easy and quick ,Now you can change Global.asax without compiling the application. How this works :        I think it is worth here to see what is happening here.        Actually, ASP.NET will use Global.asax file to create a class named global_asax within ASP namespace and place all the code in Global.asax inside the class global_asax class which is created at runtime,                namespace ASP               {                    public class global_asax: NerdDinner.MvcApplication                    {                         //Any definitions defined in Global.asax like Application_Start method                                     }               }         Which inherits from class defined in Application tag,      <%@ Application Codebehind="Global.asax.cs" Inherits="NerdDinner.MvcApplication" Language="C#" %>          Actually ASP.NET creates a pool of application objects of this class, which varies from 1 to 100. Therefore if these methods are defined in global_asax class then ASP.NET will call these method from global_asax, if not then it will use base class methods may be defined in Global.asax.cs(the concept known as shadowing or hiding). Summary :        In this article, I showed how easily and quickly you can make your Routes Editable. But also note that any change in global.asax results in Application Domain restart and this technique also makes your Route Unit Test difficult.

  Hi Everyone, I'm trying to learn how to handle audio at a fairly low level with audio queue services. I have been progrmaing in memory managed languages for quite a while, and have just completed the c programing tutorial by vtc (2007). This has left me comfortable with the understanding of pointers and memory allocation, but the apple documention still leaves me wanting for a simpler implenation and explaination. Maybe I need to learn objective c and cocoa better. I have heard that this book is good. Cocoa(R) Programming for Mac(R) OS X (3rd Edition) Could someone suggest a learning path that is going to help me get an better understanding of working with audio and an iphone. I want to be able to play mp3 files back and also alter the pitch of them as they are playing.   Consider a class Book with a stl container of class Page. each Page holds a screenshot, like page10.jpg in raw vector<char> form. A Book is opened with a path to a zip, rar, or directory containing these screenshots, and uses respective methods of extracting the raw data, like ifstream inFile.read(buffer, size);, or unzReadCurrentFile(zipFile, buffer, size). It then calls the Page(const char* stream, int filesize) constructor. Right now, it's clear that the raw data is being copied twice. Once to extract to Book's local buffer and a second time in the Page ctor to the Page::vector<char>. Is there a way to maintain encapsulation while getting rid of the middleman buffer?

  I need to convert videos for use in both a flash player and the iphone/ipod touch.   Hi, I have a long text string (including \n newline charactersthat I feed into a UILabel for display. The UILabel is dynamically setup to provide sufficient space foor the text. • Best way to cache resized images using PHP and MySQL

  What would be the best practice way to handle the caching of images using PHP. The filename is currently stored in a MySQL database which is renamed to a GUID on upload, along with the original filename and alt tag. When the image is put into the HTML pages it is done so using a url such as '/images/get/200x200/{guid}.jpg which is rewritten to a php script. This allows my designers to specify (roughly - the source image maybe smaller) the file size. The php script then creates a hash of the size (200x200 in the url) and the GUID filename and if the file has been generated before (file with the name of the hash exists in TMP directory) sends the file from the application TMP directory. If the hashed filename does not exist, then it is created, written to disk and served up in the same manner, Is this efficient as it could be? (It also supports watermarking the images and the watermarking settings are stored in the hash as well, but thats out of scope for this.)

  I have a problem with rendering my html page by the same browsers in different OS. There are 3 spans and position of each span is corrected through css(position:relative). But I have found out that the page that looks correct in firefox under Linux, shows not right at the same firefox(3.5.7) under Windows OS. • problem with codeigniter using odbc database driver

  i’ve run into a curious problem with codeigniter's odbc driver. i’m connecting from a linux machine to an MSSQL 2008 machine using FreeTDS. while i get that the ‘num_rows’ function always returns -1, and that is fully a database/driver issue - for some reason when i try to create a -result(), the whole application crashes (error 500, sometimes just a blank page), if i’m lucky, i get an error message informing me that the application died because it tried to allocated 2 terrabytes of memory(!). This happens irregularly, ie: every few refreshes. sometimes it runs fine, sometimes the page returns error 500 and sometimes it gives the memory allocation error - in any case it’s not really something that can be reproduced with percision, and the queries are SUPER simple. ideas anyone?

  Macromedia Flash 8 Question: I have a map of Ireland, just a gif, and there are several small buttons representing various point of interest around Ireland, which are scattered across the map. This part works fine. THE PROBLEM: Dublin is too small to contain all of its points of interest (approx 20). THE SOLUTION OnMouseOver Dublin, I would like Dublin to expand to perhaps 5 or 6 times its original size, and I would like to be able to have Dublins Points Of Interests now displayed within this larger dublin area, which sits on top of the Ireland map. OnMouseOut Dublin, this enlarged Dublin region now shrinks back to its original size. MY QUESTION: How do I implement Dublin?? REQUIREMENTS: 1) The expanded Dublin region shud NOT be clickable, it shud simply be a dublin image on a black background. 2) It must be possible to add additional buttons within this expanded Dublin region. • How do I change the frame position for a custom MKAnnotationView?

  I am trying to make a custom annotation view by subclassing MKAnnotationView and overriding the drawRect method. I want the view to be drawn offset from the annotation's position, somewhat like MKPinAnnotationView does it, so that the point of the pin is at the specified coordinates, rather than the middle of the pin. So I set the frame position and size as shown below. However, it doesn't look like I can affect the position of the frame at all, only the size. The image ends up being drawn centered over the annotation position. Any tips on how to achieve what I want? • Uploadify Minimum Image Width And Height

  So I am using the Uplodify plugin to allow users to upload multiple images at once. The problem is I need to set a minimum width and height for images. Let's say 150x150px is the smallest image users can upload. How can I set this limitation in the Uploadify plugin? When user tries to upload smaller picture, I would like to display some error message as well. • TTImageView not working

  Guys, I am new to IPhone and using following code to render the image from remote server using TTImageView from Three20 framework with the help of following code TTImageView* imageView = [[[TTImageView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(30, 30, 0, 0)] autorelease]; //Working OK //imageView.urlPath = @"http://prosares.co.cc/Images/background.jpg"; //No Working imageView.urlPath = @"http://prosares.co.cc/Images/backgroundTest.jpg"; [self.view addSubview:imageView]; As shown above if I am trying to load background.jpg it's getting loaded correctly but for some reason backgroundTest.jpg is not loading at all. the only diffrance in these images are the size, is there any restriction on the image size that I can load in TTImageView ? Can someone please help me to debug this issue? Thanks Ajay Sawant
