• Relationship between Repository and Unit of Work

  I am going to implement a repository, and I would like to use the UOW pattern since the consumer of the repository could do several operations, and I want to commit them at once. After read several articles about the matter, I still don't get how to relate this two elements, depending on the article it is being done in a way u other. Sometimes the UOW is something internal to the repository: public class Repository { UnitOfWork _uow; public Repository() { _uow = IoC.Get<UnitOfWork>(); } public void Save(Entity e) { _uow.Track(e); } public void SubmittChanges() { SaveInStorage(_uow.GetChanges()); } } And sometimes it is external: public class Repository { public void Save(Entity e, UnitOfWork uow) { uow.Track(e); } public void SubmittChanges(UnitOfWork uow) { SaveInStorage(uow.GetChanges()); } } Other times, is the UOW whom references the Repository public class UnitOfWork { Repository _repository; public UnitOfWork(Repository repository) { _repository = repository; } public void Save(Entity e) { this.Track(e); } public void SubmittChanges() { _repository.Save(this.GetChanges()); } } How are these two elements related? UOW tracks the elements that needs be changed, and repository contains the logic to persist those changes, but... who call who? Does the last make more sense? Also, who manages the connection? If several operations have to be done in the repository, I think using the same connection and even transaction is more sound, so maybe put the connection object inside the UOW and this one inside the repository makes sense as well. • Unable to connect to network

  Hey guys, I have a question. I have been having problems connecting a new netbook to my network at home. I have an Asus Eeepc 100HAB. I have tried to run a repair on the connection, uninstalled and re-installed the network card, made sure all of the drivers are up-to-date as well. Two caveats: I have a laptop that I recently switched to a wired connection because it wasn't connecting to the network as well, and the netbook connects to an unsecured network i found just fine, only having a problem getting into my home network. Passwords are correct, and the computer where the connection originates from is working fine as well. Any ideas?

• Leveraging .Net 4.0 Framework Tools For Encrypting Web Configuration Sections

  I would like to share a few points with regards to encrypting web configuration sections in .Net 4.0. This information is also applicable to .Net 3.5 and 2.0. Two methods can work perfectly for encrypting connection strings in a Web project configuration file:   1-Do It All Yourself! In this approach, helper functions for encrypting/decrypting configuration file content are implemented. Program would explicitly retrieve appropriate content from configuration file then decrypt it appropriately.  Disadvantages of this implementation would be the added overhead for maintaining the encryption/decryption code as well the burden of always ensuring sections are appropriately decrypted before use and encrypted appropriately whenever edited.   2- Leverage the .Net 4.0 Framework (The Way to go!) Fortunately, all needed tools for protecting configuration files are built-in to the .Net 2.0/3.5/4.0 versions with very little setup needed. To encrypt connection strings, one can use the ASP.Net IIS Registration Tool (Aspnet_regiis.exe). Note that a 64-bit version of the tool also exists under the Framework64 folder for 64-bit systems. The command we need to encrypt our web.config file connection strings is simply the following:   Aspnet_regiis –pe “connectionstrings” –app “/sampleApplication” –prov “RsaProtectedConfigurationProvider”   To later decrypt this configuration section:   Aspnet_regiis –pd “connectionstrings” –app “/SampleApplication”   The following is a brief description of the command line options used in the example above. Aspnet_regiis supports many more options which you can read about in the links provided for reference below.   Option Description -pe  Section name to encrypt -pd  Section name to decrypt -app  Web application name -prov  Encryption/Decryption provider   ASP.Net automatically decrypts the content of the Web.Config file at runtime so no programming changes are needed.   Another tool, aspnet_setreg.exe is to be used if certain configuration file sections pertinent to the .Net runtime are to be encrypted. • Distinguishing the Transport Layer from the Session Layer

  In the OSI communications model, the Session layer manages the creation and removal of the association between two communicating network end points. This can also be called a connection. A connection is maintained while the network end points are communicated between each other in a conversation or session of some unknown length of time. Some connections and sessions only need to last long enough to send a message or a piece of data in one direction. In addition, some sessions may last longer, this typically occurs when one or both of the network end points are  able to terminate it the connection. The transport layer ensures that messages/data are delivered without errors, in sequence, and with no data content losses or data content duplications. It relieves the Session Layer from any concern with the transfer of data between them and their peers. Examples: Session Layer This layer acts like a manager and asks one of its employees (Transport Layer) to move a piece of data/message from one network end-point to another. Transportation Layer This layer takes the request of the Session Layer and moves the data as insturcted, it also double checks the data for any missing or corrupted information after it has been moved. If for some reason the new data does not match the old data then the Transport player will attempt to move the data gain until the data at both locations is in sync.

• configuring USB modem( Huawei EC156) in ubuntu 13.10

  I am facing difficulty in installing my USB modem in Ubuntu 13.10. Contrary to what many have suggested,it does not get detected automatically, nor does setting a new connection help. USB Device is listed in lsusb, but not under network manager or Devices, it is detected as a CD-ROM, what I understood from the web was that usb-modeswitch can be used to switch it to a USB device. Even 'Enable Mobile Broadband' option is not shown in network manager. What was interesting is when I start laptop with windows 7 and use the USB modem and after that restart with Ubuntu, both Enable Broadband and the mobile broadband connection can be seen. Sadly, internet connection could not be installed. I tried using USB-modeswitch command as suggested somewhere, but it does not seem to work. Following is the message.   Hello My Sql server is on Local Machine, I want to access it through Internet. I Configure Surace manager and Configuration manager of sqlserver 2005 for remote access. My sqlserver is running on port:1433 I am using port forwarding , I can access service of other ports, My Connetion String Is: Data Source=190.190.200.100,1433;Network Library=DBMSSOCN;Initial Catalog=myDataBase;User ID=myUsername;Password=myPassword; But it gives following error when i am trying to connect sql server through internet: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.)

• Cannot access personal website from home IP. More details inside.

  This is a recent problem I've been having. My site can be accessed from almost everywhere else except from my home IP, where I do most of my editing/updating, etc. I've tested my connection from my school's network, a friend's connection from out of state (multiple states), and through a tethered connection with my friend's Android. It works in all those cases, both viewing, accessing the cPanel, and using FTP. Here's the problem that happens to me when I try to view it from my home IP: The page times out in Firefox, IE, and Chrome. Using the cmd, I ran tracert and ping, both as failed attempts. Log here. downforeveryoneorjustme.com says my site is up. So do the other site checkers. I can't access my cPanel or FTP accounts. I can't access the host site. (I use perfectz.info for hosting, and I can't access their site either.) System settings: No firewall enabled. Ports are seemingly properly forwarded. (e.g. The ports are open in the router settings, and are open everywhere else.) I have an email forwarder set up from the cPanel that works just fine. (i.e. I can receive emails sent to that address. If any other information is needed, I'll do my best to provide it. UPDATE @ilhan: I use two things: 1) The site cPanel from in-browser. 2) Dreamweaver CS5 FTP. @Matthias: I tested both, and it passes the dual stack with a 10/10. What should I do then?

• Unexpected network traffic?

  My internet connection is via a fixed wireless connection using a 900MHz Motorola Canopy module. The router reports a fairly consistent 32-64Kbps of incoming traffic on the WAN port. When I attached a PC directly to the port and run Wireshark, I get a dump showing a lot of chatter from other machines that I presume are connected to the same tower. This didn't include end-to-end traffic, but was there were a lot of ARP requests, SSDP traffic, ICMP and other network discovery type stuff. Is this 'normal' or does it suggest a misconfiguration somewhere? As far as I can tell there is no need for my modem to be receiving any of this traffic (other than wanting to know what the names of my neighbours machines and printers are!) Since the internet connection is slow at the best of time, having this amount of background noise seems very wasteful.

• Banshee crashes consistently - is there a fix?

  Since updating to ubuntu 11.10 I've had trouble with banshee. In particular when I run it I find that it crashes within an hour without fail. • X11 for apache user

  We are using inkscape to convert SVG images uploaded to our server via a web form. For this inkscape offers a batch mode via the -z option, but this batch mode has a flaw: When inkscape is run by the apache user, it breaks saying $ inkscape -z -W drawing.svg X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication. The application 'inkscape' lost its connection to the display localhost:11.0; most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed the application. If you do the same as a normal user you also get errors: Xlib: connection to "localhost:11.0" refused by server Xlib: PuTTY X11 proxy: MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 data did not match (inkscape:24050): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_display_list_devices: assertion `GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed 301.27942 But at least inkscape gives the correct answer (here the number stating the width of the image). Does somebody know how to make this also work for the apache user? Does it make sense to authorize apache to use X (if so how)? In any case it doesn't feel like the right solution...

• I don't know how to connect to the internet

  I'm having some trouble finding an answer to my problem. I have a dell desktop (studio hybrid) and i have windows vista on it. The internet on windows vista works great, no problem. But now i downloaded Ubuntu 11.10 and I'm having problems. I can't find how to connect to my wireless network, when i click the network icon, it shows a list of things but I can only click 'enable wireless network' or something like that and 'edit connections'. But in this list it also says ( in a grey collor and i can't click it ) : 'No wireless connection, device not ready (firmware missing)" Or something like that. Now i tried several things i read on the internet (using my vista OS cause i can't use ubuntu for the internet, which is really enoying). But none of them helped me. I would like someone to tell me what my problem is or what information I have to give you to get an answer. So tell me if i have to edit a connection, or tell me how i have to get the wireless connection to work and to repair the 'firmware missing problem'. I hope someone can/is willing to help me. Bye

• Caching Reverse-Proxy ISP Host for a Low-Bandwidth Server

  I am building a webcam w/ HTTP server that will be running from a low-bandwith connection. The content on the site will be changing every 5 to 10 minutes. Instead of serving files directly from this connection, are there hosting companies that can act as a reverse proxy for my site? Therefore, if nobody is using the site, the local internet connection remains idle. And if I receive 1000 hits all at the same time, only one HTTP GET is required, and the hosting company (on a fat pipe) continues serving the other 999 requests? This doesn't sound like a very common usage model, but I feel like this would be the optimal solution to my situation.

• Connect to bluetooth device from command line

  Background: I'm using my bluetooth headset as audio output. I managed to get it working by the long list of instructions on BluetoothHeadset community documentation, and I have automated the process of activating the headset as default audio output into a script, thanks to another question. However, since I use the bluetooth headset with both my phone and computer (and the headset doesn't support two input connections) in order for the phone not to "steal" the connection when handset is turned on, I force the headset into a discovery mode when connecting to the computer (phone gets to connect to it automatically). So even though the headset is paired ok and would in "normal" scenario autoconnect, I have to always use the little bluetooth icon in the notification area to actually connect to my device (see screenshot). What I want to avoid: This GUI for connecting to a known and paired bluetooth device: What I want instead: I'd want to make the bluetooth do exactly what the clicking the connect item in the GUI does, only by using command line. I want to use command line so I can make a single keypress shortcut for the action, and would't need to navigate the GUI every time I want to establish a connection to the device. The question: How can I attempt to connect to a specific, known and paired bluetooth device from command line? Further question: How do I tell if the connection was successful or not?

• Forwarding wifi traffic to wired pc

  I'm trying to play around with Wireshark on my home network, and was wondering if there is a way to create a new connection on my PC that receives all wifi packets on the network. The PC is a wired Windows 7 machine, and I'm using DD-WRT on an Asus RT-N16 router. I'm not trying to hack anything, I have full admin access to the router itself. My searching has led me to articles about client bridges and repeater bridges, but none of them seemed to apply entirely to my situation. I'd like to continue using my standard wifi connection, but make my PC act as a repeater that receives all wifi traffic. Again, the PC has no wireless connection. I've used tcpdump which is installed on the router itself, but I'd be more comfortable analyzing the packets in Windows, as I'm trying to learn Wireshark. Thanks

  I try to telnet to one of my systems 172.16.xx.z from 172.16.xx.y, but the response i get is- sudo telnet 172.16.xx.z Trying 172.16.xx.z... telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused Same for localhost- sudo telnet localhost Trying ::1... Trying 127.0.0.1... telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused And the same experience with ssh: sudo ssh 172.16.xx.z ssh: connect to host 172.16.xx.z port 22: Connection refused Any guesses what could be wrong here? Both my systems run on Ubuntu.

• Public DNS Server fails on Windows Amazon EC2

  I have started a new Windows server instance on Amazon EC2. The security group has the following rules: Ports Protocol Source 22 tcp 0.0.0.0/0 80 tcp 0.0.0.0/0 443 tcp 0.0.0.0/0 3389 tcp 0.0.0.0/0 53 udp 0.0.0.0/0 -1 icmp 0.0.0.0/0 I am able to ping the public DNS server of the machine and i can connect to it using Windows Remote Desktop connection. However, when i put in my web browser the public DNS server, it fails to connect. Morever, I used filezilla and putty (and in both I loaded the private key .pem) but i receive connection timed out. I disabled the firewall on both my pc and the instance (which I entered using Remote desktop connection). Can you please tell me what I am missing?

  Here is my setup: - win2003 server (ISA installed) with 3 NICs:   1) internal network   2) ISP 1 (default) network (DHCP enabled)   3) ISP 2 (backup) network (DHCP enabled) - several "normal" PC within internal net - one "special" PC within internal net Both ISP 1 and ISP 2 provide access to internet and their resources thru their VPN connections. The goal is to enable all "normal" PCs to use internet from ISP_1's VPN connection and "special" should use only ISP_2's VPN connection. Futhermore all "normal" and "special" PCs should have access to several servers accesible only thru ISP_2's VPN connection. I have some thoughts how to achieve this but I want to be certain because everything should be configured as quickly as posible, avoiding significant downtime. windows-server-2003 isa routing vpn

• 12.04 GPU lockup

  I was able to install Ubuntu 12.04 using the alternative version of the image, (64 bit) but when I start the system it tells me the GPU locked up, and instead presents a text only screen. I understand that this site is not for bug reports, but at the same time, I know that there are some versions of the installer than have to be compatible with my graphics card (Nvidia GTS 360M). I assumed that the mere fact that the alternative installer ran was an indication that I could get some sort of graphical interface running after the install. Is there some way of getting some type of graphical interface running on my machine? Even better would be is there a way to get the rest of the system running as normal (i.e. GPU up and running)? If an internet connection is required to download driver support or something similar, directions for how to configure a wireless connection with WPA2-Personal protection from the text-only interface (bash). Any help would be appreciated. Note: I was able to find this which tells me that the card is supported. Note 2: In the install software stage of the install, I was unable to install anything (no internet connection) Update: The exact error message is [8.591394] [drm] 0000:01:00.0: GPU Lockup - switching to software fbcon Update 2: If I try to install with the regular version of Ubuntu, the screen goes staticy. This also happens if I install with Wubi (distasteful I know) and then try to use Ubuntu. Update 3: I've tried xforcevesa, nomodeset and xforcevesa nomodeset as my wubi boot options. Update 4: Thanks to jokerdino, I can now connect to the internet, so internet tools would now be a possibility.

• Intermittent ethernet connectivity

  I am facing a weird problem. I am connecting to my dsl modem via ethernet. After booting, sometimes Ubuntu 10.10 does not detect the eth0 card properly or does not connect to the modem. I have made the following observations: My modem is fully on. All indicators are on except ethernet, which is blinking continuously. My network indicator applet informs me that I am connected to modem, but I am not able to browse as it has not established connection with modem. I need to power off and on (restart) the modem several times OR disconnect/connect (via network applet) several times, before the system can establish a connection with the modem. Once it establishes the connection, the ethernet LED (on modem) stops blinking and glows continuously. However, I do not see this problem every time I reboot or start my computer. 3/5 time, it connects to the modem in a single attempt. Friends, I am not able to understand root cause of this problem. Plus I do not know what kind of logs should be attached. If you want any logs please give me command to run, and I will paste the result for you. • Can I increase the link speed of the RAS Server on our MS Win2k3 box?

  We are running a Win2K3 Server box, and I'm a remote employee that connects via VPN. I've been frustrated for some time by the connection speed over the VPN (the office HQ has a decent speed and I have a biz class connection here), and decided to do some checking today. This morning, I was dialed in and looked at the networking tab of the task manager, and I see that the adapter for the RAS Server (the box has 4 Gigabit adapters) has a speed that seems far too low. The speed for the RAS Server link hovers between 300 - 600 Kbps. The local connection (and others) all say 1 Gbps. Can I set this to a higher speed? Is this information accurate? • Is there a sensible way of 'teaming' two ADSL connections?

  I work in an office complex that has two seperate ADSL connections, which they use to provide two seperate networks (actually both the ADSL routers go into a Cisco managed switch with two VLANs, one for each ADSL connection). Circumstances have changed so that 95% of the users are all on one ADSL connection. It would be great if there were a way to join together both connections to emulate a single connection at double the speed, but the ISP doesn't support bonding. So, is there a sensible way to take two completely seperate ADSL lines and use them to provide a single internet gateway?

  I am on Windows 7 and using Firefox browser. I am using WiFi, but since the morning I cannot access the Internet via the browsers (Firefox, Chrome, or IE). The laptop shows there is Internet connection, Skype is online, but I can't reach the Internet. Then I launched Tor application which creates secure channel and provides its Firefox browser. Well, I can now access the Internet over that browser. So, what might be the problem causing this malfunction? The error: The connection has timed out The server at mail.google.com is taking too long to respond. The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.   Hi all! Is anyone of you know how to disable, thru a GPO, the Wireless connection as soon as the computer is connected to the LAN with a wire. By example, a user is at home with his laptop, connected to his home wifi connection. He leaves and comes to the office but the Wifi is still enabled. He plugs the ethernet cable in the computer and then, both wifi and wire connection are enable. I would like to apply a GPO that does this... Thanks a bunch!

• Advice for migrating email server

  Hi there, I'm planning to migrate a Zimbra server with about 200gb of data from a server hosted in an office into a datacentre, to increase uptime (we've had a couple of outages when our network here started flaking out, and we have people in other countries relying on this server too). However, I'm not sure how best to migrate the data into the data centre without rendering the connection unusable during office hours, because there's far too much to send in over night over the two meg upstream connection we have here. I'm familiar with using tools like nice to stop a long running process degrading machine performance - is there a simple way to throttle a connection between office hours, so the long running transfer doesn't block the pipe, but then opens up outside of office hours to make the most of the bandwidth? I'm aware the alternative here is to simply mail a hard drive to the data centre, but I'd like to avoid doing that if I could. We're using Centos Linux for our servers, in the office and the datacentre, so extra points for an open source linux answer.
