  • Record/Playback with AudioQueue on iPhone

    - by Biranchi
Hi, I am currently using Audio Queues on the iPhone to record and playback audio. What I would like to be able to do is to record some audio, allow the user to pause the record queue, and to seek back and forward through the audio to select a position from where they can start recording from again. I have got over the seeking issue by making the playback AudioQueueBuffer sizes small enough so that the play audio queue callback happens at a rate that allows the user to use a slider control to hear the audio as they adjust the slider back and forth. I think I can achieve the recording at a new position by setting the inStartingPacket parameter of the AudioFileWritePackets function that I call from the Audio Recording Queue callback. The trouble is this only inserts audio over the previously recorded audio. The file length obviously doesn't change so if the user were to go backwards and record less audio than before, the old audio still remains after the end of the newly recorded audio. Is there a way I can get the AudioFile to truncate at the point the user starts to insert the new audio, is there some other way I can remove the old audio starting at the insert position or is there a better way about going about this task? Thanks

  • NSMutableDictionary with UIButton* as keys - iPhone development

    - by Alejandro A.
Hi, I'm new to iPhone development and I have a question that may have a very simple answer. I am trying to add buttons to a view and these buttons are associated with a custom class that I defined. When I add the buttons to the view, I would like to know what class these buttons correspond to. This is because when I press the button, I need to get some information about the class, but the receiver of the message is another class. I couldn't find information about an error that I'm getting on the web. The problem I have is that I'm trying to create an NSMutableDictionary where the keys are of type UIButton* and the values are of my custom type: // create button for unit UIButton* unitButton = [[UIButton alloc] init]; [sourceButtonMap setObject:composite forKey:unitButton]; Of course, the sourceButtonMap is defined in the class and initialized in the init function as sourceButtonMap = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; The error I get when I try to add the key-value pair is: *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** -[UIButton copyWithZone:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x3931e90' Is this happening because I can't store UIButton* as keys? Can anyone point me why I'm getting this error? Thank you all, aa

  • Multiple on-screen view controllers in iPhone apps

    - by Felixyz
I'm creating a lot of custom views and controllers in a lot of my apps and so far I've mostly set them up programmatically, with adjustments and instantiations being controlled from plists. However, now I'm transitioning to using Interface Builder as much as possible (wish I had done that before, was always on my back-list). Apple is recommending against having many view controllers being simultaneously active in iPhone apps, with a couple of well-known exceptions. I've never fully understood why it should be bad to have different parts of the interface belong to different controllers, if they have no interdependent functionality at all. Does having multiple controllers risk messing up the responder chain, or is there some other reason that it's not recommended, except for the fact that it's usually not needed? What I want to be able to do is design reusable views and controls in IB, but since a nib is not associated with a view, but with a view controller, it seems I'd have to have different parts of the screen be connected to different controllers. I know it's possible to have other objects than view controllers being instantiated from nibs. Should I look into how to create my own alternative more light-weight controllers (that could be sub-controllers of a UIViewController) which could be instantiated from nibs?

  • GPL/LGPL-licensed images + iPhone development

    - by cubic1271
Since the majority of legal links / READMEs I've found when browsing icon sets refer me to the general GPL / LGPL (as opposed to a specialized version of some kind) when I'm looking at license restrictions, I'm having a terrible time trying to figure out what would constitute source code, linking, etc. when it comes to images and / or icons. One specific example: under section 5 of the GPL, modifications must carry notices in the source code. . . how do I do that with an image? I guess I could try to find a few unused bits and encode my modifications in there (steganography, anyone?), but somehow that doesn't seem like what the license is shooting for. There are also other sections in there where I have no idea how to begin to comply with. Thus, I'm really confused. What exactly are the implications of using GPL and / or LGPL licensed images in something that isn't itself GPL'd? Specifically, I'd like to know what using GPL icons in an iPhone application might mean from a legal point of view. It feels like I'm missing something obvious here; any enlightenment / references would be appreciated!

  • HTML5 audio with PHP script does not work on iPad/Iphone

    - by saulob
Ok, I'm trying to play an HTML audio code on iPad but does not work. I created one PHP script to send to the MP3 request to the HTML5 audio code mp3_file_player.php?n=mp3file.mp3 The player is here: http://www.avault.com/news/podcast-news/john-romero-podcast-episode-80/ You will see that works on every HTML5 supported browser even on my iPod Touch. But does not work on iPad/iPhone, even on Safari on Mac OSX (I tried on Safari/Windows, worked fine) This is my PHP code: header("X-Powered-By: "); header("Accept-Ranges: bytes"); header("Content-Length: ". (string)(filesize($episode_filename)) .""); header("Content-type: audio/mpeg"); readfile($episode_filename); exit(); Everything works fine, the MP3 has the same headers like reading the mp3 directly. HTTP Headers from direct file access: (Status-Line) HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date Mon, 31 May 2010 20:27:31 GMT Server Apache/2.2.9 Last-Modified Wed, 26 May 2010 13:39:19 GMT Etag "dac0039-41d91f8-4877f669cefc0" Accept-Ranges bytes Content-Length 50656162 Content-Range bytes 18390614-69046775/69046776 Keep-Alive timeout=15, max=100 Connection Keep-Alive Content-Type audio/mpeg HTTP Header from my PHP script: (Status-Line) HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date Mon, 31 May 2010 20:27:08 GMT Server Apache/2.2.9 Accept-Ranges bytes Content-Length 69046776 Keep-Alive timeout=15, max=100 Connection Keep-Alive Content-Type audio/mpeg The only thing different it's the Content-Range, I even tried to add it, but if I use it the player will not work on my Ipod Touch. So I removed. Thank you very much.

    - by Gopinath
Here is a bit of disappointing news for Apple fan boys. Steve Jobs is again going on medical leave as he wants to concentrate on his health for sometime. In an email to the employees of Apple Steve said, At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health..I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company.I have great confidence that Tim and the rest of the executive management team will do a terrific job executing the exciting plans we have in place for 2011   Seems to the plans for release of much anticipated iPad 2 and iPhone 5 will not be affected by Steve’s absence -as rumoured iPad 2 In April, iPhone 5 In June With New Hardware. • Border image on UIView

    - by drunknbass
I want to have a UIView subclass that has a border image, but i dont want or care about this 'new' frame/bounds around the border image itself. What i wanted to do was just use drawRect and draw outside of the rect but all drawing is clipped and i dont see a way to not clip drawing outside of this context rect. So now i have added a sublayer to the views layer, set [self clipsToBounds] on the view and override setFrame to control my sublayers frame and always keep it at the proper size (spilling over the views frame by 40px) the problem with this is that setFrame on a uiview by default has no animation but seTFrame on a calayer does. i cant just disable the animations on the calayers setFrame because if i were to call setFrame on the uiview inside a uiview animation block the calayer would still have its animation disabled. the obvious solution is to look up the current animationDuration on the uiview animation and set a matching animation on the sublayer, but i dont know if this value is available. And even if it is, im afraid that calling an animation from within another animation is wrong. Unfortunately the best solution is to not use a calayer at all and just add a uiview as a subview and draw into that just like i am drawing into my layer, and hope that with autoresizingMask set to height and width that everything will 'just work'. Just seems like unnecessary overhead for such a simple task.

  • Two-Stage Rotation Warnings

    - by Kevin Sylvestre
I have an application that presents a modal UITabBarController. Each UIViewController contained in the UITabBarController implements should autorotate interface orientation. However, when I present the modal UITabBarController the following warnings appear in the console: Using two-stage rotation animation. To use the smoother single-stage animation, this application must remove two-stage method implementations. Using two-stage rotation animation is not supported when rotating more than one view controller or view controllers not the window delegate. Any ideas how to remove the warnings? Thanks.

  • AVAudioRecorder - Continue recording to file after user stops recording by leaving the application a

    - by Tegeril
Can this be done? And if not, how far down towards Core Audio do I need to go (what method of recording should I be using instead)? I've noticed the behavior of AVAudioRecorder is to overwrite a file if it finds one at the path provided when you request that it record again, so I know that's not going to work. I'm also curious about file format restriction with this idea. Can you effectively resume an AAC or IMA4 encoding (the length of the files I want to record make WAV and probably even Apple Lossless prohibitive)? Thanks.

  • Caching with AVPlayer and AVAssetExportSession

    - by tba
I would like to cache progressive-download videos using AVPlayer. How can I save an AVPlayer's item to disk? I'm trying to use AVAssetExportSession on the player's currentItem (which is fully loaded). This code is giving me "AVAssetExportSessionStatusFailed (The operation could not be completed)" : AVAsset *mediaAsset = self.player.currentItem.asset; AVAssetExportSession *es = [[AVAssetExportSession alloc] initWithAsset:mediaAsset presetName:AVAssetExportPresetLowQuality]; NSString *outPath = [NSTemporaryDirectory() stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"out.mp4"]; NSFileManager *fileManager = [NSFileManager defaultManager]; [fileManager removeItemAtPath:outPath error:NULL]; es.outputFileType = @"com.apple.quicktime-movie"; es.outputURL = [[[NSURL alloc] initFileURLWithPath:outPath] autorelease]; NSLog(@"exporting to %@",outPath); [es exportAsynchronouslyWithCompletionHandler:^{ NSString *status = @""; if( es.status == AVAssetExportSessionStatusUnknown ) status = @"AVAssetExportSessionStatusUnknown"; else if( es.status == AVAssetExportSessionStatusWaiting ) status = @"AVAssetExportSessionStatusWaiting"; else if( es.status == AVAssetExportSessionStatusExporting ) status = @"AVAssetExportSessionStatusExporting"; else if( es.status == AVAssetExportSessionStatusCompleted ) status = @"AVAssetExportSessionStatusCompleted"; else if( es.status == AVAssetExportSessionStatusFailed ) status = @"AVAssetExportSessionStatusFailed"; else if( es.status == AVAssetExportSessionStatusCancelled ) status = @"AVAssetExportSessionStatusCancelled"; NSLog(@"done exporting to %@ status %d = %@ (%@)",outPath,es.status, status,[[es error] localizedDescription]); }]; How can I export successfully? I'm looking into copying mediaAsset into an AVMutableComposition, but haven't had much luck with that either. Thanks! PS: Here are some questions from people trying to accomplish the same thing (but with MPMoviePlayerController): Cache Progressive downloaded content in MPMoviePlayerController Simultaneously stream and save a video? • UIView inside UIView with Shadow?

    - by Rnegi
Hi, I've been trying to figure out how to draw a shadow for an UIView that was added inside a UIView with addSubview. I searched online and read the docs, but the Apple docs simply draw new shapes as shown below. I want to use the Core Graphics to add a shadow to the UIView, but am unsure how to do this to a UIView directly. CGContextRef myContext = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); //CGContextRef myContext = myCGREF; CGSize myShadowOffset = CGSizeMake (10, 10);// 2 CGContextSetShadow (myContext, myShadowOffset, 0); // 3 CGContextBeginTransparencyLayer (myContext, NULL);// 4 // Your drawing code here// 5 CGContextSetRGBFillColor (myContext, 0, 1, 0, 1); CGContextFillRect (myContext, CGRectMake (a_view.frame.origin.x, a_view.frame.origin.y , wd, ht)); CGContextEndTransparencyLayer (myContext);// 6 I know I should put this in the SuperView drawRect method, but I don't know how to make it so it adds a shadow to the views I add in addSubView. Thanks!

  • How do I hide the UITableViewCell border for a custom cell in a group tableview?

    - by Gorgando
What I am trying to do: I want three buttons side-by-side in a tableviewcell just like in Contacts app. What I've done: I have a custom tableviewcell with three uibuttons in it. I've set the background color of the tableviewcell to be transparent. What I can't figure out: The tableviewcell border is still there! Everything looks great except for the border floating around the 3 buttons. Am I doing this completely wrong? Or is there a simple way to remove/hide the border? Thanks!!!

  • Parsing nested JSON objects with JSON Framework for Objective-C

    - by Sheehan Alam
I have the following JSON object: { "response": { "status": 200 }, "messages": [ { "message": { "user": "value" "pass": "value", "url": "value" } ] } } I am using JSON-Framework (also tried JSON Touch) to parse through this and create a dictionary. I want to access the "message" block and pull out the "user", "pass" and "url" values. In Obj-C I have the following code: // Create new SBJSON parser object SBJSON *parser = [[SBJSON alloc] init]; // Prepare URL request to download statuses from Twitter NSURLRequest *request = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:myURL]]; // Perform request and get JSON back as a NSData object NSData *response = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse:nil error:nil]; // Get JSON as a NSString from NSData response NSString *json_string = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:response encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; //Print contents of json-string NSArray *statuses = [parser objectWithString:json_string error:nil]; NSLog(@"Array Contents: %@", [statuses valueForKey:@"messages"]); NSLog(@"Array Count: %d", [statuses count]); NSDictionary *results = [json_string JSONValue]; NSArray *tweets = [[results objectForKey:@"messages"] objectForKey:@"message"]; for (NSDictionary *tweet in tweets) { NSString *url = [tweet objectForKey:@"url"]; NSLog(@"url is: %@",url); } I can pull out "messages" and see all of the "message" blocks, but I am unable to parse deeper and pull out the "user", "pass", and "url".

  • Example of UITextField ResignFirstResponder with Monotouch

    - by kentakhy
I'm a newbie. I can't figure out how and where to call ResignFirstResponder to get rid of the keyboard when the user finished entering the text in an UITextField. I'm a bit confused by the UIResponder class. Mono documentation says: "To dismiss the keyboard, send the UIResponder.ResignFirstResponder message to the text field that is currently the first responder." How to do so? Can someone post a simple working example? There are many examples in Obj-C but none in C#. Many thanks.

  • UISplitViewController in a TabBar ( UITabBarController )?

    - by Madhup
Hi all, I am in kind of situation that I need to start with a tab based application and in that I need a split view for one or more tabs. But it seems that split view controller object can not be added to the tabbarController. (Although tabbar object can be added to the splitviewcontroller). The problem can be seen otherways: I have a full screen in the left part I have a table view when any row is selected in the table a popover should come out pointing that row. Now when any row in the popover is selected the rows in this popover comes to the left under the selected row (only this row would be visible) and another popover comes out from the selected row. (Breadcrumb navigation type) I think I am clear in what I explained. So guys any ideas or work arounds? Please let me know if I am not clear in my question. Thanks, Madhup

  • UIViewController presentModalViewController: animated: doing nothing?

    - by ryyst
Hi, I recently started a project, using Apple's Utility Application example project. In the example project, there's an info button that shows an instance of FlipSideView. If you know the Weather.app, you know what the button acts like. I then changed the MainWindow.xib to contain a scrollview in the middle of the window and a page-control view at the bottom of the window (again, like the Weather.app). The scrollview gets filled with instances of MainView. When I then clicked the info button, the FlipSideView would show, but only in the area that was previously filled by the MainView instance – this means that the page-control view on the bottom of the page still showed when the FlipSideView instance got loaded. So, I thought that I would simply add a UIViewController for the top-most window, which is the one declared inside the AppDelegate created along side with the project. So, I created a subclass of UIViewController, put an instance of it inside MainWindow.xib and connected it's view outlet to the UIWindow declared as window inside the app delegate. I also changed the button's action, so that it know sends a message to the MainWindowController instance. The message does get sent (I checked with NSLog() statements), but the FlipSideView doesn't get shown. Here's the relevant (?) code: FlipsideViewController *controller = [[FlipsideViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"FlipsideView" bundle:nil]; controller.delegate = self; controller.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal; [self presentModalViewController:controller animated:YES]; [controller release]; Why's this not working? I've uploaded the entire project here for you to be able to see the whole thing. Thanks for help! -- Ry

  • Rounded Rect UIButton without the border

    - by Dave DeLong
I'm trying to draw a normal rounded rect UIButton, but without the border. Ideally I'd like to be able to change some setting on the UIButton to disable the border. My problem is that if I change the button type to "custom", I don't get the nice blue selection gradient (which I want to keep), and I have no idea how to draw it manually.

  • How to disable UIWebview horizontal scrolling?

    - by akaii
I've tried disabling it by inserting: into my HTML string, and a dozen variations of the above in the vain hope that I just screwed up the tag syntax... but nothing seems to stop UIWebView from scrolling horizontally. And yet there are apps that manage to do this (like MobileRSS), and presumably, since they haven't gotten rejected, they're not using private APIs.

  • CAKeyframeAnimation - Examples

I have a a menu that is a CALayer that will slide across the screen to a given point. I want the effect where the menu will go a little past the point, then a little before the point, and then land on the point. I can move the menu by applying a transform, but I was hoping to get this bouncing effect to work. I was looking into CAKeyframeAnimation, but I'm having trouble locating an example/tutorial. Any links or help would be great. Thanks.

  • How can I truncate an NSString to a set length?

    - by nevan
I searched, but surprisingly couldn't find an answer. I have a long NSString that I want to shorten. I want the maximum length to be around 20 characters. I read somewhere that the best solution is to use substringWithRange. Is this the best way to truncate a string? NSRange stringRange = {0,20}; NSString *myString = @"This is a string, it's a very long string, it's a very long string indeed"; NSString *shortString = [myString substringWithRange:stringRange]; It seems a little delicate (crashes if the string is shorter than the maximum length). I'm also not sure if it's Unicode-safe. Is there a better way to do it? Does anyone have a nice category for this?
