• Using pip to install modules in python failing

  I'm having trouble installing python modules using pip. Below is the output from the command window: Note that I installed pip immediately before trying to install GDAL module. • Should I switch my server to Ubuntu Server from Windows Server 2003

  I have a server thats primarily used for SRCDS, I host a few Team Fortress 2 servers on it and I would much prefer a ssh-like (more so the no-gui part) for something like this, mostly because I can't navigate with my phone on VNC very well and also because there really is no need for a gui in this situation. I sort of want to make the switch but I am unsure, because my server 2003 is very fast and If I do need to reboot, it can reboot in under 30 seconds to desktop. Should I switch?

  I'm having a frustrating problem with one of our clients who is running an exchange SMTP server. I have an emailing component that is written in .net and I've specifically used Mono DLL's to ensure that the email component sends the ELO and QUIT command for each message it sends. Each mail I send will never exceed 10MB's including attachments, which is lower than the session size value set in the clients exchange configuration. Still the problem persists. Any ideas where to look?

  I currently set up a script to restart my http servers + php5 fpm but can't get it to work. I have googled and have found that mostly permissions are the problems of my error but can't figure it out. There is a drive (partition) on my laptop machine that i want to backup to a network drive- if i delete a file in the folder on my laptop, it should also be deleted from the backup... I used to use syncToy, however i understand this does not work correctly with windows 7 - at least not with a large number of files. Are there any alternatives?

• Getting started with Exchange Web Services 2010

  I've been tasked with writing a SOAP web-service in .Net to be middleware between EWS2010 and an application server that previously used WebDAV to connect to Exchange. (As I understand it, WebDAV is going away with EWS2010, so the application server will no longer be able to connect as it previously did, and it is exponentially harder to connect to EWS without WebDAV. The theory is that doing it in .Net should be easier than anything else... Right?!) My end goal is to be able to get and create/update email, calendar items, contacts, and to-do list items for a specified Exchange account. (Deleting is not currently necessary, but I may build it in for future consideration, if it's easy enough). I was originally given some sample code, which did in fact work, but I quickly realized that it was outdated. The types and classes used appear nowhere in the current documentation. For example, the method used to create a connection to the Exchange server was: ExchangeService svc = new ExchangeService(); svc.Credentials = new WebCredentials(AuthEmailAddress, AuthEmailPassword); svc.AutodiscoverUrl(AutoDiscoverEmailAddress); For what it's worth, this was using an assembly that came with the sample code: Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices.dll ("MEWS"). Before I realized that this wasn't the current standard way to accomplish the connection, and it worked, I tried to build on it and add a method to create calendar items, which I copied from here: static void CreateAppointment(ExchangeServiceBinding esb) { // Create the appointment. CalendarItemType appointment = new CalendarItemType(); ... } Right away, I'm confronted with the difference between ExchangeService and ExchangeServiceBinding ("ESB"); so I started Googling to try and figure out how to get an ESB definition so that the CreateAppointment method will compile. I found this blog post that explains how to generate a proxy class from a WSDL, which I did. Unfortunately, this caused some conflicts where types that were defined in the original Assembly, Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices.dll (that came with the sample code) overlapped with Types in my new EWS.dll assembly (which I compiled from the code generated from the services.wsdl provided by the Exchange server). I excluded the MEWS assembly, which only made things worse. I went from a handful of errors and warnings to 25 errors and 2,510 warnings. All kinds of types and methods were not found. Something is clearly wrong, here. So I went back on the hunt. I found instructions on adding service references and web references (i.e. the extra steps it takes in VS2008), and I think I'm back on the right track. I removed (actually, for now, just excluded) all previous assemblies I had been trying; and I added a service reference for https://my.exchange-server.com/ews/services.wsdl Now I'm down to just 1 error and 1 warning. Warning: The element 'transport' cannot contain child element 'extendedProtectionPolicy' because the parent element's content model is empty. This is in reference to a change that was made to web.config when I added the service reference; and I just found a fix for that here on SO. I've commented that section out as indicated, and it did make the warning go away, so woot for that. The error hasn't been so easy to get around, though: Error: The type or namespace name 'ExchangeService' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) This is in reference to the function I was using to create the EWS connection, called by each of the web methods: private ExchangeService getService(String AutoDiscoverEmailAddress, String AuthEmailAddress, String AuthEmailPassword) { ExchangeService svc = new ExchangeService(); svc.Credentials = new WebCredentials(AuthEmailAddress, AuthEmailPassword); svc.AutodiscoverUrl(AutoDiscoverEmailAddress); return svc; } This function worked perfectly with the MEWS assembly from the sample code, but the ExchangeService type is no longer available. (Nor is ExchangeServiceBinding, that was the first thing I checked.) At this point, since I'm not following any directions from the documentation (I couldn't find anywhere in the documentation that said to add a service reference to your Exchange server's services.wsdl -- but that does seem to be the best/farthest I've gotten so far), I feel like I'm flying blind. I know I need to figure out whatever it is that should replace ExchangeService / ExchangeServiceBinding, implement that, and then work through whatever errors crop up as a result of that switch... But I have no idea how to do that, or where to look for how to do it. Googling "ExchangeService" and "ExchangeServiceBinding" only seem to lead back to outdated blog posts and MSDN, neither of which has proven terribly helpful thus far. Help me, Obi-Wan, you're my only hope!

  Is there a plugin for firefox to validate HTML 5? I've always used this but if my webpage has a <!DOCTYPE HTML> doctype it complains about it not having a doctype at all.

• Problems configuring nameserver in plesk

  Hello, i have some troubles with setting up a nameserver in PLESK for months now. I have tried all possible scenario's but i can not get this to work. I am really in need for some help, and if you can i will really appreciate it. Basically what i want is to just set up a nameserver in PLESK. I have a primary IP, and my host gave me a secondary nameserver i can use. My host is leaseweb in the netherlands. I have made some screenshots of the important parts in my opinion, maybe you guys can see some errors in them. To use the secondary nameserver provided by leaseweb i had to enable ACL on that account, i did so and made a screenshot of that too. The DNS recursion is set to localnets. These settings have not changed for months, so the dns should be fully updated everywhere. Is there a way to get the definition or even better the location of the definition of these functions without tracking them down through 5 levels of includes?

• Why does Mac OS X Software Update not work when machine uses Active Directory?

  My company's IT department is mostly a Windows run operation and in order to become more secure, they are altering the way that the Macintosh computers login to our internal network so that they use Active Directory like their Windows counterparts. I have been given Administrative permission on my Mac and I am able to do most of what I used to be able to do in terms of authentication of software installations. However, there is a problem: the "Software Update" feature doesn't work. What happens is that when I try to get the Mac to perform its Software Updates from the Apple menu, the normal window appears listing what has to be updated; I am able to select what to update and click the "Update" button, but then nothing happens. It doesn't ask for authentication like it used to, the computer doesn't perform any download or installation (it does sometimes ask me to agree to license agreements for iTunes). I can download the updates individually and install them without any issues, but the auto-update fails. I'd rather use the Software Update menu item like I used to: it is much more convenient. Any suggestions on how I can fix this? EDIT Nov 19th, 2009, 10:09 EST: I have posted this question to the Apple Mac OS X Snow Leopard support forum. EDIT Nov 19th, 2009, 12:39 EST:Yes, the Terminal command "sudo softwareupdate --install --all" does work flawlessly. I want to avoid that as my co-workers are generally not comfortable on the Mac. I also tried Chealion's suggestion to delete "~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist" and "/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist", Software Update still fails. However, I did get diagnostic messages in the Console (below). I've deleted the MS Office Package Receipts and examined the suhelperd (Software Update Helper Daemon?); it appears that suhelperd is crashing and that explains why it doesn't work. I've submitted a bug report to Apple (radar://7408619). • Lighttpd 403 Errors on HTML and PHP pages

  I installed lighttpd on CentOS 5.5 64-bit. Everything seems fine and running except I cannot get past 403 errors on both HTML and PHP pages. I have used CHMOD and CHOWN, changed ownership in the config file, done everything possible and have been stuck for 2 days. Appreciate any help, and here's hoping to a stupid error on my part. • Problem connecting a 3Com 2952-Plus switch to a Cisco 3750 switch

  Connected a 3Com 2952-SFP Plus switch to a Cisco 3750 switch via fibre. There is a light on the 3Com end, but nothing at the Cisco end, and no traffic will flow. Have swapped SFP's, have swapped fibre cables, have used a different port on the Cisco, have even swapped the 3Com switch, but still no joy. When I connect a 3Com 2948 switch over fibre that works OK. Any ideas?

  Hi all, I have used Open Solaris in the past and really liked it, minus the lack of support for a few applications I use such as UFraw, Hugin, and wacom. I can compile from source, but where is the fun in that. It seems the release dates for the next Open Solaris keep getting pushed back and the release that was scheduled to happen quietly got pulled from their site. So, they're no longer saying development for 10.03 has already begun because it has come and gone and there is no release. Walter

It seems like the only way to do what I need is to reboot the container.

• Win7 playback of dvr-ms files stutters

  I've just had to install Windows 7 on my Media Center machine because my Vista installation had a faulty drive. I've got the latest drivers that I can find - Intel 945GM integrated Graphics, Realtek audio drivers. Things are working OK with one exception. Playback of old recordings, from dvr-ms format files, is choppy. The picture freezes for a fraction of a second, then quickly catches up. The sound is uninterrupted and doesn't pause. These freezes happen once every 5 seconds or so. It's very regular. Playback of Live TV from the digital tuner is perfectly smooth. DVD playback is perfectly smooth. As an experiment, I used the MPEG editing package VideoReDo to create a small test file in three different formats. This program takes the raw MPEG streams and repackages them into the desired container. I took the same clip and created three files in three formats: dvr-ms (Microsoft's old recorded TV format); mpg (standard MPEG); and ts (raw MPEG transport stream of the kind often produced by PVRs). When these three files are played back under Windows 7, the mpg and ts files play smoothly, but the dvr-ms file stutters. The last piece of data I have is that two other Windows 7 machines can play back dvr-ms files smoothly with no stuttering. One is a netbook, with less grunt than the media centre. So there must be something specific about my Media Center machine that's causing the problem. Does anyone have any idea where I can look now? I don't know much about AV software, codecs, filter graphs etc. but I suspect that's where the problem lies. Rendering the video isn't the problem, but extracting the streams is. How would I go about diagnosing the problem? Edited to add: I just used the GraphStudio tool to look at the filter graph on the offending PC. The filter graph it uses by default for dvr-ms looks identical to the other machines, and, interestingly, when I play the files using GraphStudio they run smoothly. Under Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center they stutter. I'd like to see the filter graph for WMP but GraphStudio won't show it. It looks like WMP and WMC are using a different decoding path to GraphStudio. Edited again to add: Today I purchased a new HDTV. The same Media Center driving the TV at 1080p is now playing back the old Recorded TV files smoothly, without stuttering. So whatever the cause of the original problem, using a different resolution seems to have removed the problem. It might also explain why nobody else has had this problem. I doubt many people use Media Centre with a 14in portable TV.

  I'm trying to decide which spare server I should use to build a backup file/print server. These are both Dell PE2950 machines that haven't been used in about a year or so. One has 2 2.0 ghz quad core procs, and the other has 2 3.0 ghz dual core procs. None of these are the Nehalem procs since they're 2-3 years old. Thanks!
