  hello, trying to develop some sort of login tracker for my cakephp application. i know that i need code like: $this->data['LoginSession']['username'] = $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']; $this->data['LoginSession']['ipAddress'] = $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']; $this->LoginSession->save($this->data); ... in (i guess) users_controller, but don't know exactly where. also i would like to track successful, but also unsuccessful logins. can you help me with this please? thank you in advance!

• No route matches - after login attempt - even though the route exists?

  I am working on a rails application and added a simple login system according to a book. I created the controller admin: rails generate controller admin login logout index It added the following routes to routes.db get "admin/login" get "admin/logout" get "admin/index" I can got to http://localhost:3000/admin/login there is no problem at all. But when I try to login I get: No route matches "/admin/login"! Now, the first confusing part is that the "login" method of my AdminController is not executed at all. The second confusing part is that this code works like a charm - redirects everything to /admin/login: def authorize unless User.find_by_id(session[:user_id]) flash[:notice] = "you need to login" redirect_to :controller => 'admin', :action => 'login' end end Sidenotes: I restarted the server several times. I tried a different browser - to be sure there is no caching problem.

  I have a website at bgflirt.com that appears differently in FireFox and Chrome. This is how it looks in firefox: and here's how it looks in chrome: As you can see, in chrome (and safari) the page is not stretched to fit the entire screen. I'm using this code for positioning the div containing the flash on the right: <div style="width: 200px; position: absolute; right: 0px; top: 10px; overflow: hidden;"> </div> The page should look the way it does in firefox, in all browsers. Any ideas on how to fix this will be greatly appreciated !

• Call java program on server through web request

  I need to develop an application where a Java client calls a Java application located on the server with certain parameters, the Java application on the server computes data and sends the data back to the client. Everything needs to go through port 80 on which I have a IIS webserver listening. I cannot open any other port on the server. Is there any way I can do this? The server can write files in a directory that the client can read but I am not sure how to handle the synchronization and I don't know how to call a script on the server from the client through port 80. Every suggestion would be highly appreciated Thanks a lot in advance, this problem is making me crazy

  I'm wondering if there's an off the shelf CMS available that is similar to something like Mobile Roadie - ie: it will allow you to create multiple versions of one application? I'm looking to develop some mobile travel guides for iPhone/Android/Blackberry etc, and rather than get a CMS built, I'd like to see if there's something out there is similar to Wordpress in that it will allow us to input text, images, Google Maps details, phone numbers, email addresses and potentially some audio/video content. • "Method name expected" error when trying add a handler method to a delegate - C#

  I keep getting the error "Method name expected" when trying add the a method to a delegate. I have a delegate which is invoked when ever my game ends. The function I'm trying to add to the delegate stops a countdown from flashing (the method is in a static class). I've searched about and I'm still unsure why its not working. Here is the line causing the error: LivesManager.gameEnded += new LivesManager.EndGame(CountdownManager.DisableFlashTimer(this)); The this passes the current form to the method so it can disable the timer flash on the form. I have added methods from static classes to the same delegate before and it works fine, the only difference is that I'm passing the form as a paramater and then it doesn't like it. Is there any way to pass the form to the method without the error? Thanks in advance :)

  The problem is to learn computer to do addition. Computer have as input a knowladge of a numbers: he "knows" that after 1 goes 2, after 2 goes 3 and so on... Having that data computer can easyly get next number. Next, computer have knowlandge as input that x+0=x and x+(y+1)=(x+1)+y. This axioms let computer to do addition. For example, to add 5 and 3, computer makes following: 5+3 = 5+(2+1) = (5+1)+2 = 6+2 = 6+(1+1) = (6+1)+1 = 7+1 = 8. But this is too long to add numbers in such way. The problem is to develop program which can improve this way of addition using the rules of mathemetics and logic. The goal addition must executed in O(log(N)) time, not O(N) time, N is magnitude of added numbers. Have this program any science value? Is any program can do such things?

• How can I convert my Stream (image data) back into a file

  I have a WCF restful service that I'm trying to upload an image to. I have a very basic metod that accepts a stream as it's only parameter and is defined in the contract as: [OperationContract] [WebInvoke(UriTemplate = "ReviewImage", BodyStyle = WebMessageBodyStyle.Bare, Method = "POST")] ReviewImage UploadImage(Stream data); I'm actually consuming this service from flash (which is fairly inconsequntial) which selects a file from the file system and uploads it through the service url. It all works seems to work, adding a breakpoint to the UploadImage method breaks as expected. If I wanted to save this file back to disk, is it just a case of reading this Stream object into a FileStream object that creates the file somewhere? A bit like the this? When i do actually do this the file can not be opened as an image. I'm sure i'm missing a key piece of knowledge here. Does my stream actually contain just the image bytes or does it contain more than that?

  I started to develop an iPhone App for a client but the binary not yet submitted to Apple. My client asked me whether they can run the iPhone App also on the iPad. I am not sure what to answer. I am away from home and cannot even check how this all works in XCode. I wonder whether I have to submit two binaries two Apple - one for iPhone and one for iPad - or how this all works? If somebody with experience can explain me. Basically I need to figure out how much more effort I have to consider if it is only making the app work on the iPad. I do not mean the effort to redesign the whole app being a real "iPad app". Just to make it work and when somebody downloads the app and it can be for an iPhone and for an iPad and it does not matter.

  okay guys, these are the facts: I have a java chat. I can NOT have any develop-revelant information. So this all is static. It's not my chat. So fact 2: IPad does not have Java and it will not have it in future. So now, the very hard task: bring this both together. My idea: Develope a proxy server for this. 1) The data from the IPad will send to a server. 2) the server recieve data and call the JRE and the complete chat-client 3) The server gets the "chat" himself and send it back to the Ipad Is that and possible idea or bad? I would like to integrate a kind of market to sell stadium seats. Someone told me Apple will refuse the application if I integrate it directly inside the app (using Obj-C, communicating with PHP pages). • Is it practical to build a web site using strict XHTML and relying on CSS 100% for visual style?

  I tend to take the academic approach all too often and adhere to strict principles in my development when the reality is that I could have finished the project sooner had I been a little less cautious. I'm looking to find the right amount of practicality. I want to take the "Zen" approach to designing a site which (in my words) says "Use HTML strictly for content structure, and let the CSS magic do the rest". How practical is this in reality? One of the issues I run into is that I want to develop (make functional) the site first, then come back in and design it later. I know structure-wise how I want the site to flow, but I haven't even begun playing with the CSS layout, graphics, or any of the other designy stuff. What is the right approach here?

I'm using it as a portable personal "knowledge manager," and these are the prize virtues: It travels on my USB flash memory stick and runs on any computer, regardless of operating system No software installation is needed on the computer (TiddlyWiki merely uses the Internet browser) No Internet connection is needed In terms of data retrieval functionality, it mimics a relational database (use of tags and internal links) Let's say I've got a million words of prose in 4,000 tiddlers (posts). I'm still testing, but it looks like TiddlyWiki gets very slow. Is there an app like TiddlyWiki that keeps all the virtues I listed above, and allows more storage? NOTE: Separation of content and presentation would be ideal. It's nifty that TiddlyWiki has everything in a single HTML document, but it's unhelpful in many ways. I don't care if a directory of assorted docs is needed (SQLite, XML?), as long as it's functionally self-contained.

• Injection of banners in my webbrowsers possible malware

  Recently I have started to suspect that I have some kind of virus on my computer. There are 3 symptoms: Banners are being displayed on pages that doesn't use commercials, for instance when viewing screen-shots on Steam. It is only displayed after the rest of the page has been loaded and seems to be injected into it. The whole page is replaced with a commercial with the option to skip the commercial. The page is replaced with a search window claiming that the page could not be found. I have tried to scan my computer with Antivir and Adaware but only found a couple of tracking cookies. I have run HijackThis but since this isn't really my area I haven't been able to discern what shouldn't be there except the line about zonealarm since I have uninstalled it. Is there anyone out there who is able to see if there is anything suspicious in the log-file at the end or has suggestions regarding programs that might be better to find the virus than Antivir and Adaware? • Our embedded linux system won't recognize a USB Device if it is plugged in before powerup. Suggestions?

  We are developing on a small embedded device. This device us a gumstix overo board running OpenEmbedded linux. We have our development almost completely done, and have run into the strangest of bugs that we can't figure out. We have a USB Device (Spectrophotometer) that has a USB2.0 Connection and an external power supply for the light source. Typical behavior is that you plug in the power supply, then the USB connection to a host. When the usb connection is detected by the device, the device boots up and enables the light source and fan. The device is then able to be used by the host system. The problem is that if the device is plugged into the Gumstix before we turn on the Gumstix, the USB Device apparently is not probed by the system (and hence does not turn on). Under a normal situation, when the connection is initialized by plugging in the usb cable, the spectro turns itself on and becomes available to the system (this can be seen via "lsusb" typically). Neither of these things are happening. There is no device detected via "lsusb" and no dmesg errors of any kind that we can see. It is as if the device is not plugged in. The device does show up and work fine if we unplug the USB cable and plug it back in once the system is booted up. It turns on and shows up on the usb bus, and we can access it with our driver. On any other desktop or laptop, it does not matter if the host system is on or off when we plug in the spectrometer. This behavior is what I would consider to be "normal" - that the usb system is probed and initialized at boot time, and the usb devices come online. In other words, our system is fully functional as long as we plug in the usb device after the system is booted up. Unfortunately this isn't possible in our final product - everything comes on at once. Additional Info: 1) We have tried a flash drive attached to the system when the system is turned off. Booting up the system brings the flash drive online, as expected 2) There are no messages regarding the spectro or usb device (using dmesg). "lsusb" only lists the USB hubs / controllers. It is literally as if the device is not present and not plugged in. 3) We have tried a brand new image from gumstix and an older image from last year. Both images have this problem. This problem exists on all 3 gumstix devices we use. Does anyone have any suggestions? From what I can tell it isn't really possible to do a complete "reboot" of the usb system that is a complete emulation of "unplugging" and "replugging" a usb device. I feel like what is happening is that there is no initial probe on the usb bus that would trigger the usb handshaking, but this is somehow specific to the spectro. This seems to be a kernel issue or at least an issue in how the kernel is initializing the usb subsystem. I'm not really sure though. I have tried the gumstix mailing list, but there doesn't seem to be anyone who has seen this issue before. Any advice or suggestions on where to start looking would be fantastic. Thank you! • Xubuntu 13.10 64bit - Slow and buggy "log out" process?

  I'm a Windows convert who has done only a little bit of dabbling in Ubuntu in the past (back in Dapper Drake a few years back). A lot has changes since then, and I've been yearning to jump back into linux again! So, having just bought a new SSD, I felt that this would be as good of a time as any to set up a dual-boot system again. I've messed around with Ubuntu 13.10 a bit, and while Unity has its issues, I think that it still needs some time to develop. I looked into XFCE and liked it a lot, so I went with Xubuntu. I've installed Xubuntu, and for the most part it's running smoothly and it a pleasure to work with. The customization is great and the minimalistic look and feel is really nice! But here's my problem, whenever I select the "Log Out" option from either the application menu, or the user profiles menu, my PC comes to a crawl, and the dialog box with all the options (shut down, restart, log out, etc.) takes maybe a minute or more to appear. I click the log out button, my PC is brought to a snail's pace, and I have to wait for what seems like an eternity for the logout options to appear! If i try to open something else (even a terminal window) while it's loading the logout options, that other program won't finish loading until the logout screen finally appears. Keep in mind, this is a pretty much vanilla install of Xubuntu 13.10 64bit, on a PC with an intel i7, an SSD, 6gb DDR3 RAM, and a new AMD 7770 gpu (drivers haven't been installed yet, though). Everything else runs fast, most applications open near-instantly! It must be an issue with how the logout options screen initializes or something, but I'm not sure exactly how I can fix it.. Edit - Extra Info: This problem is very consistent when using the "Log Out" buttons in Xubuntu. However, I've found that I'm able to reboot and shutdown much more quickly by going through the "Switch User" screen, and using the reboot or shutdown buttons on that screen. I'm nearly certain that it has something to do with the little Log Out options screen that appears when I select Log Out from the menu, and not the actual process of shutting down.. So what should I do? I really like XFCE so far, and I've never tried a non-ubuntu based distro before, but should I just switch to something else? Is there any known fix for this issue? Are there any work-arounds for logging out/shutting down/rebooting via the terminal so that I can avoid this irritating bug? Is there any that I can monitor the progress of the log out via terminal, allowing me to see which parts are causing the slow-down? What is the best way to report this bug to someone?
