  Hi, I have ELMAH set up for a webapp, logging exceptions to a SQL server. I wish to have ELMAH send me an email too, but only when a specific exception is thrown (ie. MySpecialException). ELMAH must still log all exceptions to SQL server. I know you can do it programmatically in global.asax, but I'd prefer to use web.config. So, how do I restrict ELMAH error mails to filter out everything but a specific exception type, using web.config?

  I have the following problem that needs to be solved in a MySQL query: Fields info - textfield date1 - a date field date2 - a date field offset1 - a text field with a number in the first two positions, example "10-High" offset2 - a text field with a number in the first two positions, example "10-High" I need to sort the records by the calculated "sortvalue" based on the current date (today): If today=date2 then sortvalue=offset1*10+offset2*5+1000 else sortvalue=offset1*10+offset2*5 I have quite good understanding of basic SQL with joins etc, but this I am not even sure if its possible...if it helps I could perhaps live with a single formula giving the same sort of effect as the IFs do....ie. before date1 = low value, after date2 = high value... • Using Regex groups in bash

  Greetings, I've got a directory with a list of pdfs in it: file1.pdf, file2.pdf, morestuff.pdf ... etc. I want to convert these pdfs to pngs, ie file1.png, file2.png, morestuff.png ... etc. The basic command is, convert from to, But I'm having trouble getting convert to rename to the same file name. The obvious 'I wish it worked this way' is convert *.pdf *.png But clearly that doesn't work. My thought process is that I should utilize regular expression grouping here, to say somethink like convert (*).pdf %1.png but that clearly isn't the right syntax. I'm wondering what the correct syntax is, and whether there's a better approach (that doesn't require jumping into perl or python) that I'm ignoring. Thanks!

  Hi i just put up a validation function in jScript to validate filename in fileupload control[input type file]. The function seems to work fine in FF and sometimes in ie but never in Chrome. Basically the function tests if File name is atleast 1 char upto 25 characters long.Contains only valid characters,numbers [no spaces] and are of file types in the list. • Can I encrypt value in C# and use that with SQL Server 2005 symmetric encryption?

  To be more specific, if I create a symmetric key with a specific KEY_SOURCE and ALGORITHM (as described here), is there any way that I can set up the same key and algorithm in C# so that I can encrypt data in code, but have that data decrypted by the symmetric key in Sql Server? From the research I've done so far, it seems that the IDENTITY_VALUE for the key is also baked into the cypher text, making things even more complex. I'm thinking about just trying all the various ways I can think of, ie hashing the KEY_SOURCE using different hash algorithms for a key and trying different ways of encrypting the plain text until I get something that works. Or is that just futile? Has anyone else done this, any pointers? UPDATE Just to clarify, I want to use NHibernate on the client side, but theres a bunch of stored procedures on the database side that still perform decryption.

  I have been working on the integration testing of a webapp using watin. The webapp uses fckeditor as one of the richtext controls. Here is the piece of html of the viewsource of my webapp that includes fckeditor iframe id="ctl00_HeaderMain_txtSafetyNetDescription___Frame" src="/FCKEditor/editor/fckeditor.html?InstanceName=ctl00_HeaderMain_txtSafetyNetDescription&Toolbar=myApp" width="100%" height="200px" frameborder="no" scrolling="no" /iframe By using the watin script ... i am able to get the frame object with the following code.   I'm developing an ETL process, and need a bridge table for a one-to-many relationship between a fact table and a dimension table (MySQL database). There is a limited number of combinations (some thousands), so I want to re-use group keys from the bridge table to to limit the size. Any group of dimensions belonging to a fact row will consist of a number of dimension keys (1 to around 15), assigned to a unique group key, as below: group_key | dimension_key ----------------------- 1 | 1 1 | 3 1 | 4 2 | 1 2 | 2 2 | 3 3 | 1 3 | 4 How do I go about retrieving the unique group key for the dimensions 1,3,4 (ie. 1).

• Watin ContainsText method fails to find text in FireFox

  The ContainsText method finds the text only in specific area in the html but fails to find id in other parts of the page. I m having a ID column in that table. Now suppose after inserting this record the value of the ID corresponding to this record is 100. Now how this 100 value came to know? Does the previous value of ID ie 99 (Suppose) is stored somewhere in some variable/file in the ORM layer or before inserting this value a query was fired to know about the last inserted value or database is itself doing that or anything else???

  There are lots of questions about how to force the browser to cache or not to cache any image. But, I am facing slightly different situation. In several places of my web page, I am using following code for the images. <img title="<%= Html.Encode(Model.title)%>" src="<%= Url.Action(MVC.FrontEnd.Actions.RetrieveImage(Model.SystemId))%>"/> So, in the generated HTML it is like <img title="blahblah" src="http://xyz.com/FrontEnd/Actions/RetrieveImage?imageId=X"> Where X is some integer. I have seen that though the browser (IE or Mozilla) caches images by default, it is not caching images generated by above method. Is there any way I can tell browser to cache images of above type? • Flash uploader that can handle >2GB files?

  Is there an open source Flash uploader that can handle files larger than 2 GB? ASP.net implementations like SlickUpload are not an option, and SWFUpload (and others that I've seen) do not handle files larger than 2 GB. Nor is requiring the user to have Java installed to run applets. This would be for both IE and Firefox. I've seen a couple "large file transfer" sites that have a Flash uploader and claim to go past the 2GB limit (which is the limit for http uploads for most browsers) so I know it is technically possible.

• Debugging ASP.NET on a built-in web server suddenly stops

  I have Windows Server 2008 (64-bit), VS 2008 with its built-in webserver and an ASP.NET MVC 1.0 webapp. All I'm trying to do is to debug said app. I have a bunch of breakpoints, but they behave in a very strange way. When I fist start a debugging session with F5 and hit a breakpoint, the debugger stops just fine. However, after serveral F10s/F11s debugging suddenly "stops" (no exceptions at that time), but neither VS detaches from browsers' process, nor webapp execution stops: Visual Studio stays attached, and web request continues executing as usual. I tried various browsers (Chrome, Firefox, IE), but to no avail. What do I do to solve this? It really drives me insane.

• Sign in as different user when using Integrated Windows Authentication

  I have restricted access to a site by using Integrated Windows Authentication and turning off anonymous access. This way I can then show them their real name (from looking up on Active Directory and using the server variable LOGON_USER) and do other related Active Directory tasks. How can I then prompt again for their user credentials, through a 'sign in as other user' link , showing the browser prompt (like you would get on a browser like Chrome or Firefox, or if the site was not in the 'Intranet' zone in IE) rather than a Web Form? Since SharePoint offers this functionality, I assume there is a way to do this through code, but I don't know what code can do this (using C#). I can send a 401 header which makes the prompt appear, but how do you then confirm if they are logged in?

• Handling Custom Protocols

  I'm looking to respond to an event from a web browser, hopefully any web browser. I'm working solely on windows and I came to the conclusion a custom protocol (I.E. myprot://collection/of/strings) is the best approach here (any objections?). But, handling an instance of this protocol seems to be a little less straight-forward. All I need is that collection of strings auto-magically passed to my already running application! (the app will only respond to these links while in a specific waiting state) So answer me this, if you can, Whats the 'popular' method of handling them or better yet Whats the 'best' (subjective - I know) way to do it? Although your answers don't need to be specific to my language, I am using Delphi for development. Thanks!

• ASP.NET handling button click event before OnPreInit

  Hello, I have a data access layer, a business logic layer and a presentation layer (ie. the pages themselves). I handle the OnPreInit event and populate collections required for the page. All the data comes from an SQL server database and I do not use caching. I handle a button click event to grab values from a form and insert a new object into the database. The problem is that by the time I handle the click event, the collections have already been populated, so the new item which has been inserted into the database has not been retrieved. What is the accepted solution to this? I could insert the new object directly into the collection and re-bind the GridView, but the SQL query selects only a set of objects and the new object could fall outside of this set. Thanks!

• addEventListener gone after appending innerHTML

  Okay, so i have the following html added to a site using javascript/greasemonkey. (just sample) *a id='abc'*HEllo*/a* *a id='xyz'*Hello*/a* (excuse me, i've had to replace the '<' '' with * since hyperlinks for new users aren't allowed!) and i've also added a click event listener for the elements. All works fine up to this point, the click event gets fired when i click the element. But... i have another function in the script, which upon a certain condition, modifies that html, ie it appends it, so it looks like: *a id='abc'*HEllo*/a* *a id='xyz'*Hello*/a* *a id='123'*Hello*/a* but when this is done, it breaks the listeners i added for the first two elements... nothing happens when i click them. if i comment out the call to the function which does the appending, it all starts working again! help please...

  I have a form that allows users to enter a date of birth: ie: 4/16/40 Then when the user processes the form there's a function that checks it's length, adds leading zeros, parses the date and then uses FormatDateTime to just return the year of birth: strTemp := strPostedByDOB; If Length(strTemp) = 5 then strTemp = '0' + strTemp; if Length(strTemp) = 6 then begin strTemp := Copy(strTemp, 1 ,2) + '/' + copy(strTemp, 3, 2) + '/' + Copy(strTemp, 5, 2); strTemp := FormatDateTime('YYYY', StrToDate(strTemp)); end else strTemp := EmptyStr; using this code the strTemp is calculated as 2040 instead of 1940. Can anyone help me figure out how to make it show 1940 in strTemp? Do I have to change the form to accept a 4 digit year? Thanks, Leslie

• How to allow users to select their own grouping for a .NET TreeView control

  I am using a treeview to display projects, tasks, time entries, and the people who are working on a project. I would like to allow the user to define a custom grouping (ie. Project->Task->Time Entries or Project->Date (of time entry)->Task->TimeEntry). The relevant groups would be Project, Task, Time Entry, and Person, with some metadata from them. I want to have some modular way to allow a user to specify how they would like to display the information. Does anyone know of a good method by which this can be done? I currently have hard-coded a display which looks like this: Project Task Time Entry Next Project ... My thought is to do something like write methods to display each type and somehow let a user select what order the display would group. Please let me know if I am not being clear enough.

• What adapter to use for ExpandableListView with non-TextView views?

  I have an ExpandableListView in which I'd like to have controls other than TextView. Apparently, SimpleExandableListViewAdapter assumes all the controls are TextViews. A cast exception is generated if they are not. What is the recommended solution? Options I can think of include: - Use some other included adapter. But I can't tell if they all have the same assumption. - Create my own adapter. Is there a doc which describes the contract, ie the sequence of method calls an adapter will encounter? I expected the existing adapters to require the views to conform to some interface to allow any conforming view to be used, rather than hardcode to textview and limit where they can be used.

• Telerik RadAjaxManager and Mouse Events in Chrome

  Whenever I'm using Telerik's RadAjaxManager in Chrome, the events sent to any mouse events I'm using are passed as null. For instance, the following: <img id="Image1" src="image.gif" onclick="alert(event)" /> <rad:RadAjaxManager ID="RadAjaxManager1" runat="server"> <AjaxSettings> </AjaxSettings> </rad:RadAjaxManager> Alerts null when clicking the image. This does not happen in IE or FF. The version of the RadAjaxManager is 1.8.5.0. I'm guessing the problem does not occur in later versions, but an upgrade is not an option at the moment. I tried Telerik's support forum, but they didn't really provide any answer. What could cause such a problem? And how can it be dealt with?

• calculate intersection between two segments in a symmetric way

  When using the usual formulas to calculate intersection between two 2D segments, ie here, if you round the result to an integer, you get non-symmetric results. That is, sometimes, due to rounding errors, I get that intersection(A,B)!=intersection(B,A). The best solution is to keep working with floats, and compare the results up to a certain precision. However, I must round the results to integers after calculating the intersection, I cannot keep working with floats. My best solution so far was to use some full order on the segments in the plane, and have intersection to always compare the smaller segment to the larger segment. Is there a better method? Am I missing something?

• Postback problem downloading zip file

  I've got a problem on a webforms application where a user selects some criteria from dropdowns on the page and hits a button on the page which calls this method: protected void btnSearch_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) They then click on button to download a zip file based on the criteria which calls this method: protected void btnDownload_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) In IE, they are prompted with the bar at the top of the browser that tells them "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer blocked this site from downloading files to your computer". When they click on that bar to download the file, it fires the btnSearch_Click event again. Response.ContentType and Response.AddHeader has been set up correctly. The problem is, that btnSearch appends criteria so basically it is being appended twice and causing problems. Is there something I can do to prevent this? This is a vs2008 web app using c# 3.5 for what it's worth. Thanks!
