  • How to programmatically replace UIToolBar items built in IB

    - by frankodwyer
I have a toolbar with various image buttons, created in Interface Builder. I'd like to be able to programmatically replace one of the buttons with an activity indicator when pressed, and then put back the original button but change its color from white to yellow when the activity completes. Is this possible with an IB built toolbar or must I look at building the whole toolbar programmatically and custom views?

  • Set cursor position in a UITextField (Monotouch)

    - by manuel
In a UITextView used for entering decimal numbers I would like to get rid of possible leading zeros (The behavior should be like the one of the Calculator App). Normally this would be rather easy to implement but I just cannot figure out how to restore the cursor position. UITextField has a property SelectedTextRange of type UITextRange which can be used to get the cursor position. However, there seems no easy way to get the current index nor to create a new UITextRange object that contains the new values. I could find the solution in objective c: Finding the cursor position in a UITextField It is however very unclear to me how to rewrite that in Monotouch. Any help with this would be highly appreciated. Thanks, Manuel

  • Multi-line strings in objective-c localized strings file

    - by chrispix
I have a template for an email that I've put in a localized strings file, and I'm loading the string with the NSLocalizedString macro. I'd rather not make each line its own string with a unique key. In Objective-C, I can create a human-readable multiline string like so: NSString *email = @"Hello %@,\n" "\n" "Check out %@.\n" "\n" "Sincerely,\n" "\n" "%@"; I tried to put that in a .strings file with: "email" = "Hello %@,\n" "\n" "Check out %@.\n" "\n" "Sincerely,\n" "\n" "%@"; But I get the following error at build time: CFPropertyListCreateFromXMLData(): Old-style plist parser: missing semicolon in dictionary. email-template.strings: Unexpected character " at line 1 Command /Developer/Library/Xcode/Plug-ins/CoreBuildTasks.xcplugin/Contents/Resources/copystrings failed with exit code 1 I can concatenate it all together like this: "email" = "Hello %@,\n\nCheck out %@.\n\nSincerely,\n\n%@"; But that will be a mess to maintain, particularly as the email gets longer. Is there a way to do this in a localized strings file? I've already tried adding backslashes at the end of each line, to no avail.

  • Cannot find protocol declaration in Xcode

    - by edie
Hi.. I've experienced something today while I'm building my app. I've added a protocol in my object and assign delegate object on it. I added the protocol on the object that will implement the protocol's method. I've added it in this way as usual @interface MyObject : UIViewController <NameOfDelegate> But the Xcode says that my the protocol declaration cannot be found. I've check my code but I've declared this protocol. I've try to assign MyObject as delegate of other Object. I've edit my code like this @interface MyObject : UIViewController <UITableViewDelegate,NameOfDelegate> but Xcode say again that it cannot found declaration of protocol of NameOfDelegate. I've tried to delete the NameOfDelegate on my code and add assign MyObject as delegate of other object and it goes like this. @interface MyObject : UIViewController <UITableViewDelegate,UITabBarDelegate> No errors have been found. Then I've tried again to add again my NameOfDelegate in the code @interface MyObject : UIViewController <UITableViewDelegate,UITabBarDelegate,NameOfDelegate> At that time Xcode did not find any error on my code. So I tried again to remove the UITableViewDelegate and UITabBarDelegate on my code. @interface MyObject : UIViewController <NameOfDelegate> At that time No error had found but that was the same code I've write before. What should probably the cause of that stuff on my code? Thanks...

  • Custom UIToolBar from Images

    - by Sophtware
I need to create a UIToolbar object that uses an image for the background. Most of the buttons are images as well, and rectangular. One button, however, is round and overlaps the toolbar like the Start button on the Windows task bar. See below. I know that I will need to subclass the UIToolbar to paint the image for the toolbar -- I think. If so, does anyone have example code showing how to do this? Furthermore, does anyone have any ideas on how to implement the larger round button? I'm thinking of another custom subclass for this, but not sure if there might be an easier way. I can have the art guys chop the image anyway needed, which I'm sure the round button will need to be chopped some how. Any ideas or sample code?

  • Add a row to UITableView for adding new item?

    - by David.Chu.ca
In order to provide UI for user to add new items to my table view, I would like to add a new row in my table at a specified location (last row for example) when the view is in edit mode (I have a edit button on the view's navigation bar right side). This new row will have a add button indicator on the left side and disclosure accessory arrow on the right. When the view is not in edit mode, this add row should not be displayed. I am not sure if I should overwrite: - (void)setEditing:(BOOL)editing animated:(BOOL)animated{...} where I call the UITableView's method: insertRowsAtIndexPaths:(NSArray *)indexPaths withRowAnimation: (UITableViewRowAnimation)animation to insert a new row? My understanding is that this call may add a new row into the table view. The table view's data source is from CoreData storage. Not sure this may cause inconsistent numbers of data in the data store and table view? If it is OK and I have to manage rows in the table view, how can I add left add indicator and left disclosure arrow to the new row? Another question is that if I can do it to insert a new row as Add row, should I remove it when the table view not in edit mode? Just want to know if I am on the right track.

  • How to tell when a UISwitch inside of a UITableViewCell has been tapped?

    - by RexOnRoids
    How to tell when a UISwitch inside of a UITableViewCell has been tapped? My UISwitch is set up inside of the cell (generic cell) like this: UISwitch *mySwitch = [[[UISwitch alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero] autorelease]; [cell addSubview:mySwitch]; cell.accessoryView = mySwitch; And I am trying to detect a tap like this (but its not working): - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView accessoryButtonTappedForRowWithIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { NSUserDefaults *prefs; if(indexPath.section == 1){ switch(indexPath.row) { case 0: NSLog(@"Tapped Login Switch"); break; default: break; } } }

  • Show PDF in iPad using CGPDF APIs

    - by AJ
I have learned Apple has release CGPDF APIs in SDK 3.2 for drawing PDF context. What I understand from these APIs is that you can draw a PDF to a data object or a PDF file. You can then export it, may be, to your sandbox's directory OR add as an attachment in the mail. But I am not sure if we can use these APIs to read a PDF from application bundle and show it to the user page-by-page on the screen. What I want to do is open a PDF of a magazine in a magazine reader app. I was also wondering if we can identify the links in a PDF file and open them in the app. Let me know if have done OR doing anything like this. Thanks AJ

  • MPNowPlayingInfoCenter defaultCenter will not update or retrieve information

    - by Jayson Lane
I'm working to update the MPNowPlayingInfoCenter and having a bit of trouble. I've tried quite a bit to the point where I'm at a loss. The following is my code: self.audioPlayer.allowsAirPlay = NO; Class playingInfoCenter = NSClassFromString(@"MPNowPlayingInfoCenter"); if (playingInfoCenter) { NSMutableDictionary *songInfo = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; MPMediaItemArtwork *albumArt = [[MPMediaItemArtwork alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"series_placeholder"]]; [songInfo setObject:thePodcast.title forKey:MPMediaItemPropertyTitle]; [songInfo setObject:thePodcast.author forKey:MPMediaItemPropertyArtist]; [songInfo setObject:@"NCC" forKey:MPMediaItemPropertyAlbumTitle]; [songInfo setObject:albumArt forKey:MPMediaItemPropertyArtwork]; [[MPNowPlayingInfoCenter defaultCenter] setNowPlayingInfo:songInfo]; } This isn't working, I've also tried: [[MPNowPlayingInfoCenter defaultCenter] setNowPlayingInfo:nil]; In an attempt to get it to remove the existing information from the iPod app (or whatever may have info there). In addition, just to see if I could find out the problem, I've tried retrieving the current information on app launch: NSDictionary *info = [[MPNowPlayingInfoCenter defaultCenter] nowPlayingInfo]; NSString *title = [info valueForKey:MPMediaItemPropertyTitle]; NSString *author = [info valueForKey:MPMediaItemPropertyArtist]; NSLog(@"Currently playing: %@ // %@", title, author); and I get Currently playing: (null) // (null) I've researched this quite a bit and the following articles explain it pretty thoroughly, however, I am still unable to get this working properly. Am I missing something? Would there be anything interfering with this? Is this a service something my app needs to register to access (didn't see this in any docs)? Apple's Docs Change lock screen background audio controls Now playing info ignored UPDATE: I've created a tutorial outlining how I was able to get this functioning properly: http://jaysonlane.net/tech-blog/2012/04/lock-screen-now-playing-with-mpnowplayinginfocenter/

  • Objective-C library recommendation for AES-256 in CTR mode

    - by lpfavreau
Hello, I'm looking for recommendations on an Objective-C library for AES-256 encryption in CTR mode. I have a database full of data encrypted with another library using CTR and seems the included CCCrypt only supports ECB or CBC with PKCS#7. Any idea on the best portable library I should use? I'm not looking to port the original implementation as I don't have the required knowledge in cryptography and hence, that's-a-bad-idea (tm). Thanks!

  • Need to override drawrect if your UIView is merely a container?

    - by Greg Maletic
According to Apple's docs, "Subclasses need not override -[UIView drawRect:] if the subclass is a container for other views." I have a custom UIView subclass that is indeed merely a container for other views. Yet the contained views aren't getting drawn. Here's the pertinent code that sets up the custom UIView subclass: - (id)initWithFrame:(CGRect)frame { if ((self = [super initWithFrame:frame])) { // Consists of both an "on" light and an "off" light. We flick between the two depending upon our state. self.onLight = [[[LoyaltyCardNumberView alloc] initWithFrame:frame] autorelease]; self.onLight.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; self.onLight.on = YES; [self addSubview:self.onLight]; self.offLight = [[[LoyaltyCardNumberView alloc] initWithFrame:frame] autorelease]; self.offLight.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; self.offLight.on = NO; [self addSubview:self.offLight]; self.on = NO; } return self; } When I run the code that displays this custom UIView, nothing shows up. But when I add a drawRect method... - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect { [self.onLight drawRect:rect]; [self.offLight drawRect:rect]; } ...the subviews display. (Clearly, this isn't the right way to be doing this, not only because it's contrary to what the docs say, but because it -always- displays both subviews, completely ignoring some other code in my UIView that sets the hidden property of one of the views, it ignores the z-ordering, etc.) Anyway, the main question: why don't my subviews display when I'm not overriding drawRect:? Thanks!

  • How can I do vertical paging with UITableView?

    - by vodkhang
Let me describe the situation I am trying to do: I have a list of Items. When I go into ItemDetailView, which is a UITableView. I want to do paging here like: When I scroll down out of the table view, I want to display the next item. Like in Good Reader: Currently, I am trying 2 approaches but both do not really work for me. 1st: I let my UITableView over my scroll view and I have a nice animation and works quite ok except sometimes, the UITableView will receive event instead of my scroll view. And because, a UITableView is already a UITableView, this approach seems not be a good idea. Here is some code: - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application { // a page is the width of the scroll view scrollView.pagingEnabled = YES; scrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(scrollView.frame.size.width, scrollView.frame.size.height * kNumberOfPages); scrollView.showsHorizontalScrollIndicator = NO; scrollView.showsVerticalScrollIndicator = YES; scrollView.scrollsToTop = NO; scrollView.delegate = self; [self loadScrollViewWithPage:0]; } - (void)loadScrollViewWithPage:(int)page { if (page < 0) return; if (page >= kNumberOfPages) return; [self.currentViewController.view removeFromSuperview]; self.currentViewController = [[[MyNewTableView alloc]initWithPageNumber:page] autorelease]; if (nil == currentViewController.view.superview) { CGRect frame = scrollView.frame; [scrollView addSubview:currentViewController.view]; } } - (void)scrollViewDidScroll:(UIScrollView *)sender { if (pageControlUsed) { return; } CGFloat pageHeight = scrollView.frame.size.height; int page = floor((scrollView.contentOffset.y - pageHeight / 2) / pageHeight) + 1; [self loadScrollViewWithPage:page]; } - (IBAction)changePage:(id)sender { int page = pageControl.currentPage; [self loadScrollViewWithPage:page]; // update the scroll view to the appropriate page CGRect frame = scrollView.frame; [scrollView scrollRectToVisible:frame animated:YES]; pageControlUsed = YES; } My second approach is: using pop and push of navigationController to pop the current ItemDetail and push a new one on top of it. But this approach will not give me a nice animation of scrolling down like the first approach. So, the answer to how I can get it done with either approach will be appreciated

  • -[UIImage drawInRect:] / CGContextDrawImage() not releasing memory?

    - by sohocoke
I wanted to easily blend a UIImage on top of another background image, so wrote a category method for UIImage, adapted from http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1309757/blend-two-uiimages : - (UIImage *) blendedImageOn:(UIImage *) backgroundImage { NSAutoreleasePool* pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; UIGraphicsBeginImageContext(backgroundImage.size); CGRect rect = CGRectMake(0, 0, backgroundImage.size.width, backgroundImage.size.height); [backgroundImage drawInRect:rect]; [self drawInRect:rect]; UIImage* blendedImage = UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext(); UIGraphicsEndImageContext(); [pool release]; return blendedImage; } Unfortunately my app that uses the above method to load around 20 images and blend them with background and gloss images (so probably around 40 calls), is being jettisoned on the device. An Instruments session revealed that calls to malloc stemming from the calls to drawInRect: are responsible for the bulk of the memory usage. I tried replacing the drawInRect: messages with equivalent function calls to the function CGContextDrawImage but it didn't help. The AutoReleasePool was added after I found the memory usage problem; it also didn't make a difference. I'm thinking this is probably because I'm not using graphics contexts appropriately. Would calling the above method in a loop be a bad idea because of the number of contexts I create? Or did I simply miss something?

  • UITableView Core Data reordering

    - by PCWiz
I know this question has been asked before, and I took a look at the answer to this question. However, I'm still confused as to how to implement reordering with a UITableView in a Core Data project. What I know is that I need to have a "displayOrder" attribute in my Entity to track the order of items, and I need to enumerate through all the objects in the fetched results and set their displayOrder attribute. In the given code in the question I linked to, the table view delegate method calls a method like this [self FF_fetchResults];, and the code for that method is not given so its hard to tell what exactly it is. Is there any sample code that demonstrates this? That would be simpler to look at than sharing large chunks of code. Thanks

  • Rendering a UIWebView in drawRect with loadHTMLString

    - by Nick Weaver
    Hello there, I am having a problem with UIWebView. I'd like to render my own html code in it. When I add a webview as a subview and put in some html code it renders just fine. When it gets down to some optimized drawing of tableview cell with the drawRect method the problem pops up. Drawing UIView descendants works pretty well this way. It's even possible to load a URL with the loadRequest method, setting the delegate, conforming to the UIWebViewDelegate protocol and redrawing the table cell with setNeedsDisplay when webViewDidFinishLoad is called. It does show, but when it comes to loadHTMLString, nothing shows up, only a white rect. Due to performance reasons I have to do the drawing in the drawRect method. Any ideas? Thanks in advance Nick Example snippet code for the html code being loaded by a UIWebView: NSString *html = @"<html><head><title>My fancy webview</title></head><body style='background-color:green;'><p>It somehow seems<h2 style='color:black;'>this does not show up in drawRect</h2>!</p></body></html>"; [webView loadHTMLString:html baseURL:nil]; Snippet for the drawRect method: - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)aRect { CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); [[webView layer] renderInContext:context]; }

  • iPad: SplitView does not rotate

    - by raj.tiwari
I have the following setup: A subclass of UISplitViewController that creates the master and detail view controllers in the constructor. Master and Detail view controllers that both override shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation to return `YES'. Detail view controller implements the UISplitViewControllerDelegate protocol and deals with the popover. I am observing two weird issues that might be interrelated: When the split view comes up (in portrait mode - default on simulator), the Master view is visible. It should not be. When I rotate the simulator, the view does not "right" itself. My UISplitViewController subclass does not override shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation. However, both master and details view controllers do and return YES. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? Is this a simulator bug? Thanks. -Raj

  • How to delete row in TTTableViewController (Three20)

    - by Dmitry
Hi, The Three20 is great library. It's making the work with tables very easy. But one gap that I noticed - is deletion of rows, with animation. I spent many hours trying to do this, and this is what I'm doing: // get current index patch UITableView* table = [super tableView]; NSIndexPath *indexPath = [table indexPathForSelectedRow]; //delete row in data source TTListDataSource * source = (TTListDataSource *)self.dataSource; [source.items removeObjectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; // delete row from the table, with animation [table deleteRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:indexPath] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; After this code runs the error appears: [NSCFArray objectAtIndex:]: index (0) beyond bounds (0) I'm using the class inherited from the TTTableViewController. And I doesn't implement the DataSourceDelegate or TableViewDelegate because I'm using the Three20 as much as possible. So, this is how I create datasource: for(NSDictionary *album in (NSArray *)albums){ TTTableRightImageItem *item = [TTTableRightImageItem itemWithText:@"name" imageURL:@"image url" defaultImage:nil imageStyle:TTSTYLE(rounded) URL:@"url of selector where I actually catch the tap on a row"]; [tableItems addObject:item]; } self.dataSource = [TTListDataSource dataSourceWithItems:tableItems]; I read this article (article) but it doesn't help :( So, I know that this is very simple for gurus from this site. Can you just give me advanced sample of how to do this Thanks

  • Change Default Scrolling Behavior of UITableView Section Header

    - by davidjhinson
I have a UITableView with two sections. It is a simple table view. I am using viewForHeaderInSection to create custom views for these headers. So far, so good. The default scrolling behavior is that when a section is encountered, the section header stays anchored below the Nav bar, until the next section scrolls into view. My question is this: can I change the default behavior so that the section headers do NOT stay anchored at the top, but rather, scroll under the nav bar with the rest of the section rows? Am I missing something obvious? Thanks.
