  I am getting familiar with Zend Framework (and MVC with PHP in general) for a personal project. I have previous experience with Smarty and have no major gripes with it, but I would like to use this project as a good in-depth learning exercise. Those of you familiar with different templating engines and ZF: Do you believe there are better templating engines than Smarty in conjunction with ZF and why? I would like to apply what I learn to the real world and production environments. The personal project will be fairly robust. User management, sessions, security, database interaction, form input, jQuery, etc.

  Does anyone have a clue why those two lines would cause that linker error? std::ifstream ifs("filename.file"); boost::archive::binary_iarchive iarchv( ifs ); Error 8 fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file 'F:\dev\project\build\win32-unit\tests\Debug\framework_core_tests.lib' ramework_core_tests framework_core_tests The same happens with any Boost::Archive type. Its trying to link against a library of the same name as my executable for some reason when that project doesn't nor never existed and is not defined as a library to link against in my project files.

• How to stop Visual Studio from returning duplicates answers?

  In my team, we put all our projects (only 7 large ones) in the same solution. And since some code is common between project we tend to have the same file included in each project. This is fine and compiles/runs well. But when I do a global search in my solution, VS does a "stupid" search and goes through all the files in each project, without checking if a file has already been searched. This leads to longer searches whose results have duplicates. Do anyone know a fix for this issue?

• How do people manage changes to common library files stored across mutiple (Mercurial) repositories?

  This is perhaps not a question unique to Mercurial, but that's the SCM that I've been using most lately. I work on multiple projects and tend to copy source code for libraries or utilities from a previous project to get a leg up on starting a new project. The problem comes in when I want to merge all the changes I made in my latest project, back into a "master" copy of those shared library files. Since the files stored in disjoint repositories will have distinct version histories, Mercurial won't be able to perform an intelligent merge if I just copy the files back to the master repo (or even between two independent projects). I'm looking for an easy way to preserve the change history so I can merge library files back to the master with a minimum of external record keeping (which is one of the reasons I'm using SVN less as merges require remembering when copies were made across branches). Perhaps I need to do a bit more up-front organization of my repository to prepare for a future merge back to a common master.

  Hi, I am pretty new to MVC and I am looking for a way to design my models. I have the MVC web site project and another class library that takes care of data access and constructing the business objects. If I have in that assembly a class named Project that is a business object and I need to display all projects in a view ... should I make another model class Project? In this case the classes will be identical. Do I gain something from doing a new model class? I don't like having in views references to objects from another dll ... but i don't like duplicating the code neither. Did you encounter the same problem?

• Conditionally embed ASP.NET MVC2 Views as resources during build in Visual Studio 2010

  I have a ASP.NET MVC2 project in VS2010 that can be deployed in two modes: standalone or plugin. In standalone mode, the views should live outside the compiled assembly as .aspx files (the default setup). In plugin mode, the views are switched (currently by hand) to embedded resources and the entire assembly is dropped into a host project folder. Currently, this requires the developer to go through each view and switch it from Build Action: "Content" to "Embedded Resource" and vice versa. I would like to create a new solution configuration to automatically grab all .aspx files and build them as resources. This SO post seems like the solution, but I would prefer not to have to edit the .csproj every single time I add a new view to the project. Is there a way to use a wild cards or some other batch/global conditionally statement to change resources from content to embedded?

My question is I declared 2.5 as version. However does it important to write a lower version? For example I mean that if my project uses 3.0 version and I write that 2.5 will be provided? (I mean that let's accept that 2.5 is fine and my project works well, If I don't change anything else and just change 2.5 to 2.0 does it cause to an error?)

• Web Service appears as website instead of developer web server

  I recently reimaged my PC and regrabbed one of our projects from Source Safe. In our solution we have a web service that normally runs on a server, however we can build the webservice on our localhost for debugging as well. However, now whenever I grab the project from source safe it is building the webservice as a website instead of a developer web server. This is causing a variety of issue, specifically I am no longer able to specify which port I would like that webservice to use. As a result I cannot connect to our database through my local webservice. How can I change the project in my solution that controls the webservice from a website to a developer web server?   Our company develop several software products, which reuse each others packages (we use Java). Every product represented as separate Eclipse Java project and has it's own versioning repository (we use Mercurial). When we find a bug in some shared package, we need to transfer changes to all consuming projects, and this is a hell. The key problem is that Eclipse project can be associated only with one versioning repository. Could someone recommend some way to associate Eclipse Java project whith several versioning repositories which in ideal may be geterogeious (svn, git, mercurial) ?

• With Maven, how would I prevent Maven from filtering certain properties but allowing others?

  The problem is that I'm trying to build a project that has in its resources a build.xml file. Basically, I package my project as a jar with Maven2, and then use ant installer to install my project. There is a property in the build.xml file that I need to filter called build.date, but there are other properties that I don't want to filter, like ${basedir}, because it's used by the ant installer but gets replaced by Maven's basedir variable. So, I need to somehow tell Maven to filter ${build.date}, but not ${basedir}. I tried creating a properties file as a filter with "basedir=${basedir}" as one of the properties, but I get the following error: Resolving expression: '${basedir}': Detected the following recursive expression cycle: [basedir] Any suggestions would be much appreciated.   I have a .net website written in C# and will make functionalities that other developers can use. So i will make some default implementation and a developer can overwrite some methods Example: i have a class ShoppingCart and a class Product the class product haves a method getProductPrice the shoppingcart will call the method getProductPrice for calculating the total price of cart The Shoppingcart and Product are in the same project and i will give the developers the .dll so they can't change the source code so we can update the assembly later So they need to make a other project and extend the product class and overwrite the method getProductPrice so they can implement there own logic The problem is that the shoppingcart will not call the extended method but the original If we make already a extended project for the developers and the shoppingcart will call the extended method then we have a circular reference because the extended product needs a reference to product and the shopping cart to the extended product partial classes also don't works because we only can use partials within the same assembly anyone a suggestion ? thanks in advance

• Building XCode From Command Line Issues (Updating Entitlements file location)

  The first error is a warning for complier 'com.apple.compilers.gcc.4_0' I don't know if this is okay and I can just not worry about it. The second tells me that my entitlements file is no longer at that location. I know this and I thought I had correctly updated it in Xcode's info window. This project builds fine in Xcode. • Java - Could not find the main class?

  I'm having a hard-time with a Java error. I'm getting this when double-clicking on my compiled project Jar file in order to run it: Could not find the main class: testPackage.testFrame. Program will exit. However, my main class is cleary defined in the project properties. Furthermore, everything works fine when I run the project directly from NetBeans. I'm using the ip2c.jar third-party library to determine countries from IP addresses. If I comment the class that is using the ip2c.jar file, I don't get the error. How can a third-party library be preventing the JVM from finding my main class?

  I downloaded: Microsoft® Visual Studio® 2010 and Team Foundation Server® 2010 Beta 2 for Microsoft® Virtual PC 2007 SP1 Image When I go into the default installation of TFS project site in Sharepoint ( http://vs2010beta2/sites/DefaultCollection/IBuySpy/Dashboards/ProjectDashboard_wss.aspx ) I get this error on the webparts. There are no accessible team projects in this Team Project Collection. Contact your Team Foundation Server administrator. In the Team Server Admin Console - Team Project Collection - Team Projects tab the projects are there. This is the default installation. Any suggestions???

• Android Development - Conversion to Dalvik format failed with error 1

  So I'm dipping my toes into this area for the first time - i followed instructions to install the android SDK and eclipse plug in. I created a blank new android project and I get the following build errors: [2011-01-08 16:34:55 - xxx]: Dxno classfiles specified [2011-01-08 16:34:55 - xxx] Conversion to Dalvik format failed with error 1 I've googled the problem and tried to clean and rebuild, or hitting F5 on the project in the explorer but the issue remains. I've verified the build paths and the libraries to make sure only Android 2.3 is there but still get this issue. I have also tried to load a sample project and I get the same error. Any ideas?

  I have some source codes from a friend that I would like to use as referenced library in my BlackBerry project. I'm not sure about how to package the source codes into a .jar file. I tried exporting the source to a JAR file and import it as external JAR in my project, it's giving me missing stack map error. I tried to preverify the .jar file generated from the source using the provided preverification tool from BlackBerry JDE, it didn't give me any output folder. In fact, I'm not sure if the way I export the source is correct. Can anyone provide step-by-step instructions on how to package existing source code into a valid JAR file that can be imported into my project as a referenced library? Again, I'm using eclipse. • VS.NET solution built differently on build server

  I have a VS.NET solution with two Projects, ProjectWeb and ProjectLibrary. PW depends on PL, so I have a VS.NET project reference to PL in PW. That works all well and good on my dev box, but when it all gets to the build server, I have two different build projects, one for PL and one for PW. I'd like to build PL and copy the binaries somewhere. Then, I'd like to build PW and it only, using the binaries from the previous PL build. But will that work since the PW VS.NET project is referencing a project that doesn't exist when I build PW only on the build server? How can I set this up For specifics, I am using CC.NET and NAnt, but I have other projects that use Hudson and straight MS build

• Visual Studio 2008 Solution Explorer Randomly Expands Folders

  VS 2008 is randomly opening sub-folders for me. Sometimes just a few, sometimes every sub-folder in my project or solution. This happens even when I am not using it - last night when I knoocked off, my solution explorer was closed up tight - this morning, one large project had dozens of sub-folders open. This is not a matter of restoring a previously saved state - most of the folders that get opened are not part of the project, and I have never looked at them with VS. I have downloaded and installed the PowerCommands add-in, and it lets me collapse everything nicely. But I don't want to have to do this several times per day - it closes up folders that I want to be open as well. So, does anyone know why this happens and how to stop it? I found this question from a few months ago which is about the same as this one, but was not answered. I am hoping someone has figured out a solution.

• how to use .mdf while developing

  I use a .mdf database for my asp.net Mvc project. The project is on source control on a tfs. When I debug the project, Visual Studio copies the database in to the debugmap. The problem is, when I debug next time, the changes (while testing the previous time) in the database are gone. The reason of this I know, Visual studio copies the original database again in to the debug map. Can I change some settings in Visual studio to work always on the same database without copying the database after each debug session myself? So I can keep my modified records? Or how do I have to work with my database while developing? Greets

• GridView styling (CSS classes) disappears

  I'm migrating a large number of stand-alone pages into content pages. Most of this involves little more than copying and pasting a GridView from one page into the new page. However, I find that styling disappears in the new project, i.e. the styles (as classes) are still present in the stylesheet, but these classes are no longer applied to GridView table elements. Example, in the old project, once a table is rendered by the GridView, its header row has a class of HeaderStyle, but in the new project this is lost, without any editing of the GridView. Is there some mysterious, built-in mechanism that automatically applies these attributes to GridView elements that I have somehow disabled?

• Qt compilation and stylesheet

  Each time I compile my Qt project after modifying my qss stylesheet file, the modifications aren't taken into account, unless I rebuild everything. Any idea on a workaround for this, so that I don't have to wait 5 minutes each time I change my qss ? Notes: I use Qt 4.8, and my stylsheet is declared in a resource file (qrc). EDIT: As suggested by Luca Carlon, when a qss is reference in the project through a .qrc file, the changes in the qss don't affect the qrc, and the compiler ignores it. To avoid that, I added a Custom Build Step to my project: before the qmake step! calls a .bat file without any argument the .bat contains the real command copy /b files.qrc +,,
