  I was attempting to find an answer to this, and I did to some degree, but definitely not anywhere good enough to form a respectable, sensible and clear answer. If I am using Windows, Mac, Linux, or nearly any modern made OS for desktop IBM-compatible PCs, laptops, even tablets and smartphones, there's virtual memory. Clearly, compiling, at least on Windows I know this, an executable object file, such as a simple C "Hello World" output to a terminal, will be linked with the standard library, and several other Window's system software, dynamic linked libraries, and the like. However, how does linking all of these executables together or resources form a connectable interaction with, say, a device driver or any other stuff on the lower level?

• True live USB: Fully Functional

  I can't seem to have the affect I'm looking for on a "Live Ubuntu" I want to run it from the USB drive, a fully functional, fully upgradable version. I do not want to use as a "trial version", or to set up a dual boot or run in a virtual system. I have kids that are killing my computer & everything on my HD, they need their own OS & drive but don't have the $$$ for a laptop for them, I just want it to work on the USB the same way it works on the C: drive

• How do you remove Ubuntu? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How to remove Ubuntu and put Windows back on? I have no idea what was deleted or uninstalled or even what system ran previously on the computer. The computers are public computers for an office and no one know's how to use this system! Most people can't figure it out and have never even heard of it (I have because I knew someone who ran it)!! So how do I remove it? Is there anyway to just do a virtual restore? I'm hoping it was windows 7 on here previously cause don't most 7 systems have a built in windows installation disk iso? Anyone know how or if this can be fixed?? No we don't have the re-installation disks (if we did I would know the system and not have a problem) HELP!!!!

• Does low latency code sometimes have to be "ugly"?

  (This is mainly aimed at those who have specific knowledge of low latency systems, to avoid people just answering with unsubstantiated opinions). Do you feel there is a trade-off between writing "nice" object orientated code and writing very fast low latency code? For instance, avoiding virtual functions in C++/the overhead of polymorphism etc- re-writing code which looks nasty, but is very fast etc? It stands to reason- who cares if it looks ugly (so long as its maintainable)- if you need speed, you need speed? I would be interested to hear from people who have worked in such areas.

I've been trying to install Java JDK for the past two hours without any success because when I try to do so, Terminal asks for my password, which I don't even remember creating. Can someone please help and tell me how am I suppose to change the password in order to install JDK? It will be very much appreciated, thank you.

• How would I go about updating my electronic circuit simulator's 'electricity'?

  I have made an application which allows the user to place down wires, power sources, and inverters on a virtual circuit board. All connections between tiles are automatic, as shown here: As you can see in the last image, the updating of power throughout this grid is not yet functioning. I think I understand how to do this updating conceptually, but getting it to work in my program is appearing to be much more difficult than I first imagined. My source code can be found here. If you have any tips as to how to I might approach this monstrous task, please let me know. EDIT The goal here is to simply get a working application. Getting tiles to pass on power to their neighbors is quite easy, but the tricky part is getting wires to "unpower" after the removal of a power source. The size of the grid is just 18x18, so efficiency really isn't a factor, for those wondering.

  Given: vm - a WinXPsp3 virtual machine hosted by a Win7sp1 physical machine alice is the user on vm srv - a Win2008R2sp1 server bob is the user on srv quake - a linux server mark is the user on quake Both vm and srv have the same new installation of cygwin (1.7.9) and openssh. • InternalsVisibleTo attribute and security vulnerability

  I found one issue with InternalsVisibleTo attribute usage. The idea of InternalsVisibleTo attribute to allow some other assemblies to use internal classes\methods of this assembly. To make it work you need sign your assemblies. So, if other assemblies isn't specified in main assembly and if they have incorrect public key, then they can't use Internal members. But the issue in Reflection Emit type generation. For example, we have CorpLibrary1 assembly and it has such class: public class TestApi { internal virtual void DoSomething() { Console.WriteLine("Base DoSomething"); } public void DoApiTest() { // some internal logic // ... // call internal method DoSomething(); } } This assembly is marked with such attribute to allow another CorpLibrary2 to make inheritor for that TestAPI and override behaviour of DoSomething method. My steps to do it: Generate new assembly in runtime via AssemblyBuilder Get AssemblyName from CorpLibrary1 and copy PublikKey to new assembly Generate new assembly that will inherit TestApi class As PublicKey and name of generated assembly is the same as in InternalsVisibleTo, then we can generate new DoSomething method that will override internal method in TestAPI assembly Then we have another assembly that isn't related to this CorpLibrary1 and can't use internal members. Just for testing I stored it in Thread NamedDataSlot. It won't work in multithreaded applications, but it's just a sample. I know that we use Reflection to get private\internal members of any class, but within reflection we can't override them. But this issue is allows anyone to override internal class\method if that assembly has InternalsVisibleTo attribute. I tested it on .Net 3.5\4 and it works for both of them. How does it possible to just copy PublicKey without private key and use it in runtime? • Wrong keymap in games under OSX

  While it's somewhat related to gaming, I believe this kind of question definitely belongs here. On most games, I have a very weird problem related to keymap: they apparently load a wrong map, i.e. a legacy one that has not been used since 68k AFAIK, that is a QZERTY, with M to the right of the L. I can't understand why this happens, I guess they use a bugged library for getting keyboard input, I'm not sure. While I can actually bind the keys using this map, sometimes it prevents me from binding some, such as the numbers. A very odd workaround happens with Urban Terror: if I enable and disable fullscreen, it reverts to the correct keymap (didn't try this on other games, such as Aquaria). It may or may not be useful to know that I use a custom keymap but even if I select the standard keymap before starting the game the problem happens anyway.

• Windows 7 random black screen when idle

  Occasionally, when I'm away from my computer for about 5 minutes, the computer screen will go black and all USB devices (keyboard/mouse) will lose power. Attempting to move the mouse or pressing keys does not 'wake up' the computer. This only started happening a few days ago but I'm not sure what changes I did could have caused this and I uninstalled programs (one by one) I installed before it started happening, but still having the same issue. The one thing I noticed different about my computer since it started happening is i've been getting random survey popups from www.insightexpress.com. I ran Microsoft Security Essentials scan, it picked up some Java related malware, I removed it but still the same issue. I'm running MBAM right now and will run SAS after.

  I am trying to use Reflection.Emit to generate a wrapper class in a dynamic assembly. Automatic wrapper generation is part of a new open-source library I'm writing called "GoInterfaces".   I'm writing a simple iPhone app which lets a user access a series of calculators. It consists of the following: UITableViewController (RootViewController), with the list of calculators. UIViewController + UIScrollView (UniversalScroller), which represents an empty scroll view - and has a 'displayedViewController' property. UIViewController (Calculators 1-9), each of which contains a view with controls that represents a particular calculator. Each calculator takes 3-5 values via UITextFields and UISliders, and has a 'calculate' button. They can potentially be taller than 460px(iPhone screen height). The idea is: User taps on a particular menu item in the RootViewController. This loads and inits UniversalScroller, ALSO loads and inits the UIViewcontroller for the particular calculator that was selected, sets the displayedViewController property of UniversalScroller to the newly loaded calculator UIViewcontroller, and pushes the UniversalScroller to the front. When the UniversalScroller hits its 'viewDidLoad' event, it sets its contentSize to the view frame size of its 'displayedViewController' object. It then adds the displayedViewController's view as a subview to itself, and sets its own title to equal that of the displayedViewController. It now displays the calculator, along with the correct title, in a scrollable form. Conceptually (and currently; this stuff has all been implemented already), this works great - I can design the calculators how I see fit, as tall as they end up being, and they will automatically be accommodated and displayed in an appropriately configured UIScrollView. However, there is one problem: The main reason I wanted to display things in a UIScrollView was so that, when the on-screen-keyboard appeared, I could shift the view up to focus on the control that is currently being edited. To do this, I need access to the UniversalScroller object that is holding the current calculator's view. On the beganEditing: event of each control, I intended to use the [UniversalScroller.view scrollRectToVisible: animated:] method to move focus to the correct control. However, I am having trouble accessing the UniversalScroller. I tried assigning a reference to it as a property of each calculator UIViewController, but did't seem to have much luck. I've read about using Delegates but have had trouble working out exactly how they work. I'm looking for one of three things: Some explanation of how I can access the methods of a UIScrollView from a UIViewController whose view is contained within it. or Confirmation of my suspicions that making users scroll on a data entry form is bad, and I should just abandon scrollviews altogether and move the view up and down to the relevant position when the keyboard appears, then back when it disappears. or Some pointers on how I could go about redesigning the calculators (which are basically simple data entry forms using labels, sliders and textfields) to be contained within UITableViewCells (presumably in a UITableView, which I understand is a scrollview deep down) - I read a post on SO saying that that's a more pleasing way to make a data entry form, but I couldn't find any examples of that online. Screenshots would be nice. Anything to make my app more usable and naturally 'iPhone-like', since shuffling labels and textboxes around makes me feel like I am building a winforms app! I've only recently started with this platform and language, and despite being largely an Apple skeptic I definitely see the beauty in the way that it works.   Is there a way to define a Hotkey conditionally in AutoHotKey? I want to do different keyboard mappings for different machines with different physical keyboards. This is what I want to do: RegRead, ComputerName, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, System\CurrentControlSet\Control\ComputerName, ComputerName If ( ComputerName = BDWELLE-DIM8300 ) { #Include %A_ScriptDir%\Mappings-BDWELLE-DIM8300.ahk } OR RegRead, ComputerName, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, System\CurrentControlSet\Control\ComputerName, ComputerName If ( ComputerName = BDWELLE-DIM8300 ) { LWin::LAlt [more hotkey definitions that only apply to this machine] } but since AHK parses Hotkey definitions and #Include statements BEFORE interpreting If statements, the Hotkeys definitions (whether buried in an #Include or not) do not respect the If condition. • Maven Assembly Plugin - install the created assembly

  I have a project that simply consists of files. I want to package those files into a zip and store them in a maven repository. I have the assembly plugin configured to build the zip file and that part works just fine, but I cannot seem to figure out how to install the zip file? Also, if I want to use this assembly in another artifact, how would I do that? I am intending on calling dependency:unpack, but I don't have an artifact in the repository to unpack.
