  • wrong data type in mysql for grails byte[] property

    - by srkiNZ84
Hi, I have an application which is trying to save a photo to the database. I've created a grails domain class with a byte[] property and this was working well when using HSQLDB (the default in grails). However, when I changed the database to MySQL I ended up getting the following error: Data truncation: Data too long for column 'photo' at row 1 I then had a look at the schema and found that the byte[] was being created as a TINYBLOB field, which was causing the error. How can I specify that this property should correspond to a BLOB/LONGBLOB type in the database?

  • Django: Data corrupted after loading? (possible programmer error)

    - by Rosarch
I may be loading data the wrong way. excerpt of data.json: { "pk": "1", "model": "myapp.Course", "fields": { "name": "Introduction to Web Design", "requiredFor": [9], "offeringSchool": 1, "pre_reqs": [], "offeredIn": [1, 5, 9] } }, I run python manage.py loaddata -v2 data: Installed 36 object(s) from 1 fixture(s) Then, I go to check the above object using the Django shell: >>> info = Course.objects.filter(id=1) >>> info.get().pre_reqs.all() [<Course: Intermediate Web Programming>] # WRONG! There should be no pre-reqs >>> from django.core import serializers >>> serializers.serialize("json", info) '[{"pk": 1, "model": "Apollo.course", "fields": {"pre_reqs": [11], "offeredIn": [1, 5, 9], "offeringSchool": 1, "name": "Introduction to Web Design", "requiredFor": [9]}}]' The serialized output of the model is not the same as the input that was given to loaddata. The output has a non-empty pre_req list, whereas the input's pre_reqs field is empty. What am I doing wrong?

  • How not to lose focus on a login page

    - by Misha Moroshko
I have a simple login form with 2 input fields: "username" and "password". "username" field is focused by default. The problem is that when user clicks outside "username" or "password" fields, the focus is gone (it is neither on "username" nor on "password" fields"). How can I force the focus to be on these 2 fields only ? In my case, this is a really annoying behavior, so I really want to do this :) Can I do something like: $("*").focus(function() { if (!$(this).hasClass("my_inputs_class")) { // How to stop the focusing process here ? } }); ?

  • Any way to avoid a filesort when order by is different to where clause?

    - by Julian
I have an incredibly simple query (table type InnoDb) and EXPLAIN says that MySQL must do an extra pass to find out how to retrieve the rows in sorted order. SELECT * FROM `comments` WHERE (commentable_id = 1976) ORDER BY created_at desc LIMIT 0, 5 exact explain output: table select_type type extra possible_keys key key length ref rows comments simple ref using where; using filesort common_lookups common_lookups 5 const 89 commentable_id is indexed. Comments has nothing trick in it, just a content field. The manual suggests that if the order by is different to the where, there is no way filesort can be avoided. http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/order-by-optimization.html I also tried order by id as well as it's equivalent but makes no difference, even if I add id as an index (which I understand is not required as id is indexed implicitly in MySQL). thanks in advance for any ideas!

  • From Fraction to Decimal and Back?

    - by CC
Hi folks... Is it possible to store a fraction like 3/6 in a variable of some sort? When I try this it only stores the numbers before the /. I know that I can use 2 variables and divide them, but the input is from a single text field. Is this at all possible? I want to do this because I need to calculate the fractions to decimal odds. A bonus question ;) - Is there an easy way to calculate a decimal value to a fraction? Thanks..

Been staring at this all day and can't seem to figure out why my update statement fails to update the field 'image_filename': $fileName = $_FILES['image_filename']; if($fileName["name"] <> ""){ $imageFile = $fileName['name']; $destination = "../../../../assets/resources/images/".$fileName['name']; move_uploaded_file($fileName['name'], $destination); } $updateSQL = sprintf("UPDATE content SET image_filename='$imageFile' WHERE id=%s", GetSQLValueString($_POST['resource_id'], "int")); mysql_select_db($database_conn_talent, $conn_talent); $Result1 = mysql_query($updateSQL, $conn_talent) or die(mysql_error()); Can a SQL pro tell me what I"m missing?   • Android: Prompt user to save changes when Back button is pressed

    - by chriskopec
I have an activity that contains several user editable items (an EditText field, RatingBar, etc). I'd like to prompt the user if the back/home button is pressed and changes have been made that have not yet been saved. After reading through the android documentation, it seems like this piece of code should go in the onPause method. I've tried putting an AlertDialog in the onPause however the dialog gets shown and then immediately tears down because nothing is there to block the pause from completing. This is what I've come up with so far: @Override protected void onPause() { super.onPause(); AlertDialog ad = new AlertDialog.Builder(this).setMessage( R.string.rating_exit_message).setTitle( R.string.rating_exit_title).setCancelable(false) .setPositiveButton(android.R.string.ok, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { // User selects OK, save changes to db } }).setNeutralButton(android.R.string.cancel, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { // User selects Cancel, discard all changes } }).show(); } Am I on the right track or is there another way to accomplish what I'm trying to do here? Any help would be great!

  • Tools for viewing logs of unlimited size

    - by jkff
It's no secret that application logs can go well beyond the limits of naive log viewers, and the desired viewer functionality (say, filtering the log based on a condition, or highlighting particular message types, or splitting it into sublogs based on a field value, or merging several logs based on a time axis, or bookmarking etc.) is beyond the abilities of large-file text viewers. I wonder: Whether decent specialized applications exist (I haven't found any) What functionality might one expect from such an application? (I'm asking because my student is writing such an application, and the functionality above has already been implemented to a certain extent of usability)

  • Is it safe to validate a URL with a regexp?

    - by Vilx-
In my web app I've got a form field where the user can enter an URL. I'm already doing some preliminary client-side validation and I was wondering if I could use a regexp to validate if the entered string is a valid URL. So, two questions: Is it safe to do this with a regexp? A URL is a complex beast, and just like you shouldn't use a regexp for parsing HTML, I'm worried that it might be unsuitable for a URL as well. If it can be done, what would be a good regexp for the task? (I know that Google turns up countless regexps, but I'm worried about their quality). My goal is to prevent a situation where the URL appears in the web page and is unusable by the browser.

  • Conditional value for ActiveRecord create method only

    - by Steve Wright
I have a form where I have an administrator creating new users. The form uses the User model I created (login, password, first_name, etc...). For the last field on the form, I want to have a checkbox that doesn't need to be stored as part of the User record, but it is needed for the controller. This will control whether or not the newly created user will receive a welcome email or not. def create @user = User.new(params[:user]) if @user.save if @user.send_welcome_email UserMailer.welcome_email(@user).deliver end redirect_to(admin_users_url, :notice => "User #{@user.name} was successfully created.") else render :action => "new" end end In my view (haml) I am trying to access it like this: %p Send Welcome Email? = f.check_box :send_welcome_email I tried to make this an attr_accessible: :send_welcome_email but the controller does not recognize it. I get an undefined method 'send_welcome_email' for #&lt;User:0x00000100d080a8&gt; I would like it to look like this: What is the best way to get this working:

  • drop-down combo box-like functionality for queries.

    - by Frank Developer
Is it possible to provide the following type of fuctionality with informix client tools? As the user types the first two characters of a name, the drop-down list is empty. At the third character, the list fills with just the names beginning with those three characters. At the fourth character, MS-Access completes the first matching name (assuming the combo's AutoExpand is on). Once enough characters are typed to identify the customer, the user tabs to the next field. The time taken to load the combo between keystrokes is minimal. This occurs once only for each entry, unless the user backspaces through the first three characters again. If your list still contains too many records, you can reduce them by another order of magnitude by changing the value of constant conSuburbMin from 3 to 4.

  • Tracking changes to individual fields - Silverlight

    - by Appu
I have a page which has got several text boxes. These controls are bound to a model. I am using MVVM. Assume I have three text boxes, FirstName, LastName and Company. So in the model, I have three properties to bind. Now I need to track the changes happened to each field. If FirstName changes from original value, I need the text box to be colored with a different background color. Currently I am creating another property called FirstNameChanged and binding the background to this property. This will be updated when I change the FirstName. For 3 fields, this seems to be OK. But when I have more fields, the number of properties will be too much. Is there a better way to handle this?

  • jQuery focus on content of input / textarea - not working properly in IE8

    - by katebp
I want the input fields on my site to select all the text when the user first clicks on them, but in IE8 the text is selected for a split second then reverts back to normal. Works fine in FF. My js code: $(document).ready(function () { //HTML DOM document is ready // Add this behavior to all text fields $("input[type='text'], textarea").live("focus", function(){ // Select field contents this.focus(); }); }); Any ideas? I've tried adding ".select()" after "this" and bizarrely enough it works, but throws loads of js errors in FF and IE. Thanks

  • Django - User account with multiple identities

    - by Scott Willman
Synopsis: Each User account has a UserProfile to hold extended info like phone numbers, addresses, etc. Then, a User account can have multiple Identities. There are multiple types of identities that hold different types of information. The structure would be like so: User |<-FK- UserProfile | |<-FK- IdentityType1 |<-FK- IdentityType1 |<-FK- IdentityType2 |<-FK- IdentityType3 (current) |<-FK- IdentityType3 |<-FK- IdentityType3 The User account can be connected to n number of Identities of different types but can only use one Identity at a time. Seemingly, the Django way would be to collect all of the connected identities (user.IdentityType1_set.select_related()) into a QuerySet and then check each one for some kind of 'current' field. Question: Can anyone think of a better way to select the 'current' marked Identity than doing three DB queries (one for each IdentityType)?

  • Why isn't the copy constructor elided here?

    - by Jesse Beder
    (I'm using gcc with -O2.) This seems like a straightforward opportunity to elide the copy constructor, since there are no side-effects to accessing the value of a field in a bar's copy of a foo; but the copy constructor is called, since I get the output meep meep!. #include <iostream> struct foo { foo(): a(5) { } foo(const foo& f): a(f.a) { std::cout << "meep meep!\n"; } int a; }; struct bar { foo F() const { return f; } foo f; }; int main() { bar b; int a = b.F().a; return 0; }

  • Dynamic Custom Fields for Data Model

    - by Jerry Deng
    I am in the process of creating a dynamic database where user will be able to create resource type where he/she can add custom fields (multiple texts, strings, and files) Each resource type will have the ability to display, import, export its data; I've been thinking about it and here are my approaches. I would love to hear what do you guys think. Ideas: just hashing all the custom data in a data field (pro: writing is easier, con: reading back out may be harder); children fields (the model will have multiple fields of strings, fields of text, and fields for file path); fixed number of custom fields in the same table with a key mapping data hash stored in the same row; Non-SQL approach, but then the problem would be generating/changing models on the fly to work with different custom fields;

  • Database normalization and duplicate values

    - by bretddog
Consider a Parent / Child / GrandChild structure in a database table schema, or even a deeper hierarchy. These being in the same aggregate. One table DAYS keeps a single row per day, and has a "Date" field. This is the root table, or maybe a child of the root. No row can ever be deleted in this table. In this case, however complex my table schema looks like, however far away in the hierarchy any other table is, is there any reason why any other table would hold a Date value? Can't it instead just have a FK to the DAYS table. I obviously assume that the creation of these date fields happen not before such datefield exist in the DAYS table. I'm now thinking just about the date part to be relevant, not the time part. Not sure if all databases can store these individually. That's maybe relevant, but not really the focus of the question.

  • Is this query safe in SQL Server?

    - by xaw
I have this SQL update query: UPDATE table1 SET table1.field1 = 1 WHERE table1.id NOT IN (SELECT table2.table1id FROM table2); Other portions of the application can add records to table2 which use the field table1id to reference table1. The goal here is to remove records from table1 which aren't referenced by table2. Does SQL Server automatically lock table2 with this kind of query so that a new record can't be added to table2 while executing this query? I've also considered: UPDATE table1 SET field1 = 1 WHERE 0 = (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM table2 WHERE table1.id = table2.table1id); Which seems possibly safer, but much slower (because a SELECT would be called on each row of table1 instead of just one select for the NOT IN)

  • MySQL update error when special characters are used

    - by Katy
Hi All, I was wondering if anyone had come across this one before. I have a customer who uses special characters in their product description field. Updating to a MySQL database works fine if we use their HTML equivalents but it fails if the character itself is used (copied from either character map or Word I would assume). Has anyone seen this behaviour before? The character in question in this case is ø - and we can't seem to do a replace on it (in ASP at least) as the character comes though to the SQL string as a "?". Any suggestions much appreciated - thanks!

  • What are all the special iPhone / iPod Touch HTML tags?

    - by scunliffe
After peeking at the SO source, I noticed this tag: <link rel="apple-itouch-icon" href="/apple-touch-icon.png" /> Which after a quick Google revealed an Apple "favicon" type thing for display on your homepage ("WebClip Bookmark" to be exact). The only other one that jumps to mind is the: <input type="search" results="5"/> This type="search" causes the field to "inherit" the Apple search icon, and the optional results="x" enables a history of "x" keywords to be maintained. I'm therefore wondering, what other Apple/Safari (iPhone/iPod Touch) specific HTML tags and attributes are out there that I'm not aware of! Curious minds need to know!

  • Detect all changes to a <input type="text"> (immediately) using JQuery

    - by Dustin Boswell
There are many ways the value of a <input type="text"> can change, including: keypresses copy/paste modified with JavaScript auto-completed by browser or a toolbar I want my JavaScript function to be called (with the current input value) any time it changes. And I want it to be called right away, not just when the input loses focus. I'm looking for the cleanest and most robust way to do this across all browsers (using jQuery preferably). Example use case: On the Twitter Signup page, the username field's value gets shown in the url "http://twitter/username" below it.

  • Two way binding when setter is overriden

    - by Nicolas Goy
I have an NSTextField bound to some object "zoom" property. In this object's class implementation, I have the following - (void)setZoom:(CGFloat)zoom { _zoom = MAX(0, MIN(10, zoom)); } If I write "-5" in the textfield, setZoom: will be called with "-5" as argument and _zoom will be set to 0. Then problem is that the textfield is not updating itself and it shows "-5" instead of re-reading the property value it has just set. If I do myObject.zoom = -5; in code, the text field will display 0 correctly. I tried to wrap _zoom =... inside willChangeValueForKey/didChangeValueForKey calls but it didn't change anything.
