• Problems Running GTA San Anread under wine

  Although I can actually run San Andreas under wine first of all this is the menu: Well when I press the first menu item, I can play but there are some weird "bugs" with the graphics. The sky turns black, some 3d figures appearing on the screen etc. + the game is very slow. Intel built in graphic card so drivers are built in as well. When I run it on Windows - same computer everything works fine. • HUGE EF4 Inheritance Bug

  Well maybe not for everyone but for me is definitely really important. That is why I get straight into the point. We have the following model: Which maps to the following database: We are using EF4.0 and we want to load all Burgers including BurgerDetails. So we write the following query: But it fails. The error is : “The ResultType of the specified expression is not compatible with the required type. The expression ResultType is 'Transient.reference[SampleEFDBModel.Food]' but the required type is 'Transient.reference[SampleEFDBModel.Burger]'.Parameter name: arguments[0]”   So in the new version of EF there is no way to eager load data through Navigation Properties with 1-1 relationships defined in subclasses. Here is the relevant Microsoft Connect Issue. It is described through an other example but the result is the same.  Please if you think this is important vote up on Microsoft Connect.   EF 4.0 has many improvements. I am using it since v1 in large-scale projects and this version is faster,produces cleaner sql, more reliable and can be used for complicated business scenarios. That is why I believe this issue should be solved as soon as possible. I understand that release cycles are slow but I am hoping atleast for a hotfix. • Bingbot seems to be adding "ForceRecrawl: 0" to URLs when crawling my sites

  I'm seeing this in the iis-logs of two websites that I maintain: GET /an/existing/page/on/my/site+ForceRecrawl:+0 - 80 - 207.46.195.105 HTTP/1.1 Mozilla/5.0+(compatible;+bingbot/2.0;++http://www.bing.com/bingbot.htm) I get about one or two of these per day from these IP addresses: 207.46.195.105, 65.52.110.190.. an more, all belonging to msnbot-ip.search.msn.com Probably Microsoft has a bug in their crawler? Any way, doing a search on "ForceRecrawl: 0" in major search engines comes up with a bunch of random sites. Doing the search on StackOverflow or here gave no results (to my amazement). Am I the only one seeing this? I first noticed these on the 9th of this month, and I'm seeing them pass almost daily since... Another thing that I think is crazy, is that the URL http://www.bing.com/bingbot.htm redirects to mail.live.com (hotmail). Currently I'm returning 404's but I'm considering to catch these, strip the trailing " ForceRecrawl: 0" and process as if it were a legitimate url. Could anyone shed some light on this? Could it have to do with some configuration or so in Bing's Webmaster Tools?

• Can´t verify my site on Google (error 403 Forbidden). I have other sites in the same host with no problems whatsoever

  I can´t verify my site on Google. I´ve done this several times for several sites, all inside the same host. I´ve tried the HTML tag method, HTML upload, Domain Name provider (I canp´t find the options that Google tell me that I should activate...), and Google Analytics. I always get this response: Verification failed for http://www.mysite.com/ using the Google Analytics method (1 minute ago). Your verification file returns a status of 403 (Forbidden) instead of 200 (OK). I´ve checked the server headers, and I get this result: REQUESTING: http://www.mysite.com GET / HTTP/1.1 Connection: Keep-Alive Keep-Alive: 300 Accept:/ Host: www.mysite.com Accept-Language: en-us Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0b; Windows NT 6.0) SERVER RESPONSE: HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden Date: Wed, 19 Sep 2012 03:25:22 GMT Server: Apache/2.2.19 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.19 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 mod_bwlimited/1.4 PHP/5.2.17 Connection: close Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1 Final Destination Page (It shows my actual homepage). • Using old code on new version of Visual Studio [migrated]

  I have a project which was started from 90s in C/C++. Therefore, it contains many old coding styles such as K&R-style function declaration, obsolete function, ... The project works fine in Visual Studio 2008, but now I want to use it in the new version of Visual Studio (specifically VS 2010) because we have other projects in Visual Studio 2010/2012. I don't want to have too many versions of Visual Studio on my machine. When I try to compile the old project, Visual Studio throws too many errors. I can fix all of them but I am scared to edit the source code and I want other people to be able to pen it in the old version of VS too. I want the project to remain backwards compatible with VS. My question is how to use the old code in Visual Studio 2010/2012 without changing the code. Or if necessary how do I just fix a few lines of code, but make sure it won't cause an error if someone else opens that code in the older version of VS. Is there a way to tell newer Visual Studio versions to use older compiler flags or something like that?

• Performance problem with an Intel Wireless 5100

  I just installed 12.04 on a HP Elitebook 2530p. The performance with wireless connection to an Eminem 4551 is very bad. Wired connection just works great. If I connect to my router (Eminent 4551) wired I have a good performance accessing internet pages with Firefox.   I am using Ubuntu 12.04 (precise) Kernel : 3.5.0-18-generic I am encountering a strange problem, my whole desktop has shifted to right. This happened after I restored my system, I was getting a blank screen earlier.(something is better than nothing). For some reason it also shows my display as laptop. I do not want to reinstall everything please help. • Object oriented design importance

  I started studying Object Oriented Design and Modelling using the this book by James Rumbaugh. It uses a tool called Object Modeling Technique (OMT). I have certain newbie questions. I searched the net, but couldn't get answers The book is pretty old. Don't know why the school told me to learn this. I know OMT is a predecessor of the Unified Modeling Language (UML). So its a waste? Whether the concepts change very much when we move from OMT to UML? I know OMT has Object, Dynamic and Functional Model. Wikipedia says UML is compatible with OMT and UML is a model too. As per wikipedia the UML models are Static and Dynamic and they are represented by different diagrams like class, object, activity, sequence..... I couldn't find the equivalence of this in OMT. I read that there are many object oriented development methods like OMT, Booch,.... Which one is used by Industry ? Where could I get a comparison of different Object oriented development methods?

  hullo folks....this is my first thread here Ok,i first installed ubuntu 11.10 the day it released on my old laptop...internet worked fine without configuring anything so now,i installed ubuntu 11.10 on my newer laptop.But it says ,"device not ready(firmware missing". • Visual web page designer for Django?

  I'm just starting my Django learning so pardon me if any part of this question is off-base. I have done a lot of web searching for information on the equivalent of a visual web page designer for Django and I don't seem to be getting very far. I have experience with Delphi (Object Pascal), C, C++, Python, PHP, Java, and Javascript and have created and maintained several web sites that included MySQL database dependent content. For the longest time I've been using one of the standard WYSIWIG designers to design the actual web pages, with any needed back end programming done via Forms or AJAX calls that call server side PHP scripts. I have grown tired of the quirks, bugs, and other annoyances associated with the program. Also, I find myself hungry for the functionality and reliability a good MVC based framework would provide me so I could really express myself with custom code easily. So I am turning to Django/Python. However, I'm still a junkie for a good WYSIWIG designer for the layout of web pages. I know there are some out there that thrive on opening up a text editor, possibly with some code editor tools to assist, and pounding out pages. But I do adore a drag and drop editor for simple page layout, especially for things like embedded images, tables, buttons, etc. I found a few open source projects on GitHub but they seem to be focused on HTML web forms, not a generic web page editor. So can I get what I want here? The supreme goal would be to find not only a web page editor that creates Django compatible web pages, but if I dare say it, have a design editor that could add Python code stubs to various page elements in the style of the Delph/VCL or VB design editors. Note, I also have the Wing IDE Professional IDE, version 2.0. As a side note, if you know of any really cool, fun, or time-saving Python libraries that are designed for easy integration into Django please tell me about them. -- roschler

  I've installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a Satellite L35-SP1011 and there's no sound. Actually i have many video problems cause i had to disable effect because when it had effect activated, laptop got frozen many times. I saw this problem but in older ubuntu versions and tried some fixes without success. Any idea on how to solve my audio and video problems? • What's the term for re-implementing an old API in terms of a newer API

  The reason for doing it is to solve the case when a newer API is no longer backwards compatible with an older API. To explain, just say that there is an old API v1.0. The maker of this API decides it is broken and works on a new API v1.1 that intentionally breaks compatibility with the old API v1.0. Now, any programs written against the old API cannot be recompiled as-is with the new API. Then lets say there is a large app written against the old API and the developer doesn't have access to the source code. A solution would be to re-implement a "custom" old API v1.0 in terms of the new API v1.1 calls. So the "custom" v1.0 API is actually keeping the same interface/methods as the v1.0 API but inside its implementation it is actually making calls to the new API v1.1 methods. So the large app can be then compiled and linked against the "custom" v1.0 API and the new v1.1 API without any major source code changes. Is there a term for this practice? There's a recent example of this happening in Jamie Zawinski's port of XScreenSaver to the iPhone - he re-implemented the OpenGL 1.3 API in terms of the OpenGL ES 1.1 API. In this case, OpenGL 1.3 represents the "old" API and OpenGL ES 1.1 represents the "new" API.

• Why is my Internet connection randomly dropping?

  Ever since I have installed 12.04 (clean install not an upgrade), i have been having a drop in the Internet connection. The drop in the connection can be anything from 15 seconds to about 3 mins, and then the connection comes back. This behaviour happens while I am actively browsing the Internet, or if I wake up the computer and open Firefox (sometimes I have connection and sometimes I don't) . Please note that when the internet connection is on, it is not slow (as speedtest.net results show) In the beginning, I thought it was a problem with the driver r8169 for my RTL8111/8168B Ethernet card, so I downloaded the r8168 from Realtek website, followed the detailed instructions (blacklisted r8169, changed the file to '.bsh' ...), but still the same problem persisted. So I switched to a wireless connection, and I got the same problem with internet connection dropping randomly. Any ideas? • Instructor Insight: Using the Container Database in Oracle Database 12 c

  The first time I examined the Oracle Database 12c architecture, I wasn’t quite sure what I thought about the Container Database (CDB). In the current release of the Oracle RDBMS, the administrator now has a choice of whether or not to employ a CDB. Bundling Databases Inside One Container In today’s IT industry, consolidation is a common challenge. With potentially hundreds of databases to manage and maintain, an administrator will require a great deal of time and resources to upgrade and patch software. Why not consider deploying a container database to streamline this activity? By “bundling” several databases together inside one container, in the form of a pluggable database, we can save on overhead process resources and CPU time. Furthermore, we can reduce the human effort required for periodically patching and maintaining the software. Minimizing Storage Most IT professionals understand the concept of storage, as in solid state or non-rotating. Let’s take one-to-many databases and “plug” them into ONE designated container database. We can minimize many redundant pieces that would otherwise require separate storage and architecture, as was the case in previous releases of the Oracle RDBMS. The data dictionary can be housed and shared in one CDB, with individual metadata content for each pluggable database. We also won’t need as many background processes either, thus reducing the overhead cost of the CPU resource. Improve Security Levels within Each Pluggable Database  We can now segregate the CDB-administrator role from that of the pluggable-database administrator as well, achieving improved security levels within each pluggable database and within the CDB. • Do you think natively compiled languages have reached their EOL?

  If we look at the major programming languages in use today it is pretty noticeable that the vast majority of them are, in fact, interpreted. Looking at the largest piece of the pie we have Java and C# which are both enterprise-ready, heavy-duty, serious programming languages which are basically compiled to byte-code only to be interpreted by their respective VMs (the JVM and the CLR). If we look at scripting languages, we have Perl, Python, Ruby and Lua which are all interpreted (either from code or from bytecode - and yes, it should be noted that they are absolutely not the same). Looking at compiled languages we have C which is nowadays used in embedded and low-level, real-time environments, and C++ which is still alive and kicking, when you want to get down to serious programming as close to the hardware as you can, but still have some nice abstractions to help you with day to day tasks. Basically, there is no real runner-up compiled language in the distance. Do you feel that languages which are natively compiled to executable, binary code are a thing of the past, taken over by interpreted languages which are much more portable and compatible? Does C++ mark an end of an era? Why don't we see any new compiled languages anymore? I think I should clarify: I do not want this to turn into a "which language is better" discussion, because that is not the issue at hand. The languages I gave as example are only examples. Please focus on the question I raised, and if you disagree with my statement that compiled languages are less frequent these days, that is totally fine, I am more than happy to be proved mistaken.
