  • How to remove items from an arraylist without shrinking the list [migrated]

    I have a case where I am using the ArrayList to keep a list of items that are keyed by their position in the list. Other objects reference the ArrayList items by their position. If I delete one of the items from the list, I don't want the list to shrink because that would invalidate all other references to items in the list (e.g. item 2 is now in position 1). My solution to the shrinking array list problem is to null the position in the arraylist so that the list will not shrink. I am curious whether this will free the memory formerly held by the item at that position. If there is a better way to accomplish this requirement, I would like to know about it.

  • Managing shots of the player

    I'm currently developing a 2D Jump'n'Run and the situation is the following: The player has different weapons he can collect and is then able to shoot the weapon's projectiles (laser, rockets, whatever). In my previous game (space shooter) I just had a manager class for all the weapon-shots, it stored them in a container and then updates and draws every single one. When the "shoot-event" occurred, the "ProjectileManager" was notified and it added the wanted projectile. The input for player action is handled in the player-class, so the player would have to know the manager to call the function of the manager. I also have a collisionManager, that checks for collisions between, for example, enemies and the projectiles and then notifies these objects. However, I somehow have the feeling, that I shouldn't use this approach and that there might be a better way to handle this. I know, the question is a bit vague, I'm pretty much just looking for input and ideas to improve my design.

I know you are supposed to use objects like var character = new Object(); (If the code has errors I apologise.)But how do you make the character move using keys WASD or let the character pick up items. What I want to know is that whether you need a canvas created specially for the character, how to add attributes and use keys to move it all in code. Also it would be great if you could help me on how to import pictures to JS to use it.

  • Using IIS Application Request Routing (ARR) for ASP.NET MVC

    I use a simple ASP.NET MVC web (the template you use when you create a new site) and the web works as expected in my live environment. I now try to use IIS Application Request Routing version 2. I have a rule that send all reuqests to a different server that match a rule. The settings are a bit like this: http://blogs.iis.net/wonyoo/archive/2008/07/09/application-request-routing-arr-as-a-reverse-proxy.aspx My rule is just a bit different it is /shop(.*). Only requests that contain shop are send to a different server. I have to use rewrite, not redirect (The same as in the Picture) This works as long as the web the original requests go to is no ASP.NET MVC web. I tried to use a plain htm file in the webfolder and it worked. If put a compiled ASP.NET application into the webfolder it worked. But as soon as I put an ASP.NET MVC web into the folder, request arr served by this application. My understanding is that the ARR should kick in before the web application gets the chance to handle the request. Did anybody use ARR sucessfully as a reverse proxy for a ASP.NET MVC web? EDIT Here is the resulting web config when the rewrite roule is entered. Okay, so the good old System.Web.Caching.Cache (which is, by the way, still there in .NET 4) has the ability to set so-called CacheDependency objects to determine whether a cached item is expired or not. One can also specify custom logic for determining whether a cached item is still useable or not by deriving a custom subclass from CacheDependency. I'm curious, is there a way to provide such a logic in the new API?

  • NHibernate mapping with optimistic-lock="version" and dynamic-update="true" is generating invalid up

    I have an entity "Group" with an assigned ID which is added to an aggregate in order to persist it. This causes an issue because NHibernate can't tell if it is new or existing. To remedy this issue, I changed the mapping to make the Group entity use optimistic locking on a sql timestamp version column. This caused a new issue. Group has a bag of sub objects. So when NHibernate flushes a new group to the database, it first creates the Group record in the Groups table, then inserts each of the sub objects, then does an update of the Group records to update the timestamp value. However, the sql that is generated to complete the update is invalid when the mapping is both dynamic-update="true" and optimistic-lock="version".   • WPF: Animating TranslateTransform from code

    I have a WPF canvas on which I'm dynamically creating objects from code. These objects are being transformed by setting the RenderTransform property, and an animation needs to be applied one of those transforms. Currently, I can't get properties of any transform to animate (although no exception gets raised and the animation appears to run - the completed event gets raised). In addition, if the animation system is stressed, sometimes the Storyboard.Completed event is never raised. All the examples I've come accross animate the transforms from XAML. MSDN documentation suggests that the x:Name property of a transform must be set for it to be animatable, but I haven't found a working way to set it from code. Any ideas? I'd like to write a custom filter for that adapter so that when I call getListAdapter().getFilter().filter("abc") the list will get filtered by an arbitrary transformation of "abc". I thought I would just try to override ArrayAdapter.getFilter(), but that requires I re-implement the private ArrayAdapter.ArrayFilter which requires access to a bunch of ArrayAdapter's private instances. What's the simplest way to do this?

    When saving changes with SaveChanges on a data context is there a way to determine which Entity causes an error? For example, sometimes I'll forget to assign a date to a non-nullable date field and get "Invalid Date Range" error, but I get no information about which entity or which field it's caused by (I can usually track it down by painstakingly going through all my objects, but it's very time consuming). Stack trace is pretty useless as it only shows me an error at the SaveChanges call without any additional information as to where exactly it happened. Note that I'm not looking to solve any particular problem I have now, I would just like to know in general if there's a way to tell which entity/field is causing a problem. The logical way to go about this in SQL would be to build an "IN" clause. JPQL allows for IN, but it seems to require me to specify every single parameter to IN directly (as in, "in (:in1, :in2, :in3)"). Is there some way to specify an array, or a list (or some other container) that should be unrolled to the values of an IN clause?

    I have a WPF app in VS2008 that compiles twice during the build. The two CSC command lines are similar but with some differences. The first CSC command line does not have an /resource options, the second has two /resource options on the command line.     Hi All, I'm trying to add bullets to the SL4 RichTextBox. Using the Run / Paragraph objects and adding the correct bullet child seems to be an easy approach. However, when I want to apply a bullet to an existing paragraph, I would like to indent the content of the paragraph. How can apply this kind of styling to the paragraph? The margin doesn't exist for the SL version of Paragraph. Thanks.

    Hello, I have web service on IIS 7 on Windows 2008. This web service must dlls of .NET Framework 3.5 (I have error about System.Linq using when I try to browse the web site) The only place I found where it is possible to change .NET Framework version is application pools management, but The only two options I have are: no management code and .NET Framework 2. In add/remove programs I have .NET Framework 3.5 installed and event does to it repair and iisreset, but I still have only to options in application pools management. Any ideas? Thank you for ahead.
