• Unexpected start of already-primary server processes when heartbeat on secondary is stopped.

  Hi, I've got an active-passive Heartbeat cluster with Apache, MySQL, ActiveMQ and DRBD. Today, I wanted to perform hardware-maintenance on the secondary node (node04), so I stopped the heartbeat service before shutting it down. Then, the primary node (node03) received a shutdown notice from the secondary node (node04). What just happened here??? Heartbeat on node04 stopped and told node03, which was the active node at the time. Somehow, node03 decided to start the cluster processes that were already running. (For the processes that are not critical, I always return a 0 from the startupscript so it does not stops the entire cluster when a non-essential part fails.) When starting ActiveMQ, it returns status 1 because it is already running. This fails the node and shuts everything down. As heartbeat is not running on the secondary node, it cannot failover to there. When I tried to run ha_takeover to restart the resources, absolutely nothing happened. Only after I restarted heartbeat on the primary node the resources could be started (after a delay of 2 minutes). These are my questions: Why does heartbeat on the primary node try to start the cluster processes again? Why did ha_takeover not work? What can I do to prevent this from happening? • IIS6 - 301 permanent redirect response accessing an asp.net web site

  I've installed an ASP.NET 2.0 virtual directory application on the default web site in IIS6 (Windows 2003 computer) with a Visual Studio generated web deployment setup. Unfortunately, following a successfull installation, I'm unable to access our web site. Before I go with completely resetting IIS6 on this machine, I'm wondering what could cause this problem. The virtual directory configuration seems fine to me, no redirection at all at this level.   Hello. I'm playing a little bit with the new StackOverflow API. Unfortunately, my JSON is a bit weak, so I need some help. I'm trying to deserialize this JSON of a User: {"user":{ "user_id": 1, "user_type": "moderator", "creation_date": 1217514151, "display_name": "Jeff Atwood", ... "accept_rate": 100 }} into an object which I've decorated with JsonProperty attributes: [JsonObject(MemberSerialization.OptIn)] public class User { [JsonProperty("user_id", Required = Required.Always)] public virtual long UserId { get; set; } [JsonProperty("display_name", Required = Required.Always)] public virtual string Name { get; set; } ... } I get the following exception: Newtonsoft.Json.JsonSerializationException: Required property 'user_id' not found in JSON. • VMware Converter errors when creating Boot Camp VM

  I just got a new computer. My old computer had a Boot Camp installation of Windows 7, with VMWare running the Boot Camp installation in a virtual machine. On my new computer, I want Windows to strictly be a VM, so I downloaded the VMWare Converter software to create a virtual machine out of the Boot Camp partition. After finishing 95% of the converting process, I get a few messages Warning: Failed while updating boot.ini on the target machine's system volume. Warning: Failed while updating drive letters for the target volume layout. Error: Reconfiguration failed. And then it fails with FAILED: Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible. I'm not sure what the problem is or how to fix it...I don't know much about virtualization or dual booting other than the simple instructions on how to set it up the first time.

• ODBC Connection String Problem

  Hi there, I am having major trouble connecting to my database via ODBC. The db is local (but I have a mirror on a virtual machine), so I am trying to use the connectionstring: Dsn=MonetDB;host=TARBELL where TARBELL is the name of my computer. However, it doesn't connect. BUT, this string does: Dsn=MonetDB;host=localhost as does Dsn=MonetDB Can anyone explain this? I am at a complete loss. I have taken down my firewalls (at least until I get this figured out), so that can't be the problem. I eventually want to change the TARBELL to the mirrored virtual machine running another instance of the database. Many thanks, Brett

• Algorithms for City Simulation?

  I want to create a city filled with virtual creatures. Say like Sim City, where each creature walks around, doing it's own tasks. I'd prefer the city to not 'explode' or do weird things -- like the population dies off, or the population leaves, or any other unexpected crap. Is there a set of basic rules I can encode each agent with so that the city will be 'stable'? (Much like how for physics simulations, we have some basic rules that govern everything; is there a set of rules that governs how a simulation of a virtual city will be stable?) I'm new to this area and have no idea what algorithms/books to look into. Insights deeply appreciated. Thanks!

• Mobile Device emulator cannot access localhost

  I am using Windows Mobile 6 Professional Emulator and Windows Mobile Device Center. I connected and cradled the emulator to my computer. I am trying to connect from the browser of the emulator to a webservice that is deployed in the IIS of my computer (same machine where the emulator is installed). If I connect my computer to the internet, I can access any website, including my local WS (using the IP returned by ipConfig). The problem is when I disconnect the computer from the Internet: I cannot access my local web service using the IP (internal one returned by ipconfig), or machine name. Do you have any ideea what settings am I missing? I am sure this it's possible somehow, I just don't know how... PS: The goal is to access the WS from a mobile application, but until I cannot access it from the browser, I cannot access it from the application either. Thank you!

  I am trying to set up Single sign on for 2 websites that reside on the same domain e.g. http://mydomain (top level site that contains a forms-auth login page) http://mydomain/admin (seperately developed website residing in a Virtual Application within the parent website) Have read a few articles on Single Sign on e.g. http://www.codeproject.com/KB/aspnet/SingleSignon.aspx And they seem to suggest it is just a case of having the same machinekey section in each web.config so that the cookie encryprion and decryption is the same for each application I have set this up and I never get prompted for credentials in the sub-website (the virtual application) I always get prompted in the parent site. In addition to having the same machinekey I've also tried adding the same <authentication> and <authorisation> elements Any idea what I could be missing?

  Hi, I have a .NET 2.0 class the properties of which are marked virtual.I need to use the class as a model in a MVC2 application. So, I have created a .NET 3.5 class inheriting from the .NET 2.0 class and added the DataAnnotations attributes to the overriden properties in the new class. Serverside validation works correctly but the client side validation does not. Specifically the validation error is not displayed on the page.   I am writing silverlight 3 application which is working on network. It works like client-server application. There is WinForm application for server and silverlight application for client. I use TcpListener on server and connect from client to it with Socket. In local network it works fine, but when I try to use it from internet it don't connect to server. I use IP address on local network and real IP with port number for internet version. I get error 10013 AccessDenied. Port number is correct and access policy exist. Firewall is turned of. Any thoughts? I have re installed glassfish and NetBeans but it all seems the same. I think this started happening after I had to force-restart my computer with NetBeans stil open and the app deployed, but it's hard to know for sure if this was the real catalyst.   I am writing silverlight 3 application wich si working on network. It works like client-server application. There is WinForm application for server and silverlight application for client. I use TcpListener on server and connect from client to it with Socet. In local network it works fine, but when I try to use it from internet it don't connect to server. I use IP address on local network and real IP with port number for internet version. Where is the problem? Thanks.

• NHibernate Many-To-One on Joined Sublcass with Filter

  I have a class setup that looks something like this: public abstract class Parent { public virtual bool IsDeleted { get; set; } } public class Child : Parent { } public class Other { public virtual ICollection<Child> Children { get; set; } } Child is mapped as a joined-subclass of Parent. Childen is mapped as a Many-To-One bag. The bag has a filter applied to it named SoftDeletableFilter. The filter mapping looks like: <filter-def name="SoftDeleteableFilter" condition="(IsDeleted = 0 or IsDeleted is null)" /> That problem is that when Other.Children is loaded the filter is being applied to the Child table and not the parent table. Is there any way to tell NHibernate to apply the filter to the parent class?

• "port forwarding": redirect calls to webservice at port 8081 to port 80

  Hi, a colleague of mine wrote a webservice that runs on port 8081 of our Windows 2008 Server. He uses the class ServiceHost, afaik this means its a standalone host (no IIS or ASP involvement). Note: I'm new into WCF ;) Now there are some issues with clients behind a firewall blocking the requests to remote port 8081 of our server (where the webservice runs). The easiest solution would be: run the webservice host at port 80 ... But: there is also a Apache 2.2 webserver running on the Windows Server, hosting some websites. By default it runs on port 80. My solution after some researching: use a virtual host to route requests to a virtual host (lets say http://webservice.[hostname]:80) to the webservice host (http://[hostname]:8081). Is this a good idea? Can Apache handle forwards to standalone webservice hosts? It would be nice if someone could lead me on to the right track :) Best regards, Niels

• BroadCast Messages to multiple client on the same machine

  I need to have a server on one machine that broadcasts a message sever second or so, Kind of like a service discovery. The message needs to be received by multiple client processes that could be on the same machine or different machines. Im using delphi7, with indy 9.0.18 where im stuck is if i should be using UDP or IP MultiCast or if its even possible... Ive managed to get it to work with IP Multi Cast with one client per machine, but even after many trys with different bindings.. max/min ports etc, i cant seem to find a solution.

  Hi, I am trying to substitute variable value inside array so as to update array values based on command line inputs. e.g. I am receiving IP address as command line argument for my TCL script and trying to update commands with recvd IP value. My array is: array set myArr { 1 myCmd1("192.268.2.1","abc.txt") 2 myCmd2("192.268.2.1","xyz.txt") 3 myCmd3("192.268.2.1","klm.txt") } Here, "192.268.2.1" will actually be supplied as command line argument. I tried doing array set myArr { 1 myCmd1($myIP,"abc.txt") 2 myCmd2($myIP,"xyz.txt") 3 myCmd3($myIP,"klm.txt") } and other combinations like ${myIP}, {[set $myIP]} but none is working. • How to read an IIS 6 Website's Directory Structure using WMI?

  I need to read a website's folders using WMI and C# in IIS 6.0. I am able to read the Virtual directories and applications using the "IISWebVirtualDirSetting" class. However the physical folders located inside a website cannot be read using this class. And for my case i need to read sub folders located within a website and later on set permission on them. For my requirement i dont need to work on Virtual Directories/Web Service Applications (which can be easily obtained using the code below..). I have tried to use IISWebDirectory class but it has been useful. • open_basedir vs sessions

  On a virtual hosting server I have the open_basedir set to .:/path/to/vhost/web:/tmp:/usr/share/pear for each virtual host. I have a client who's running WordPress and he's complaining about open_basedir errors thus: PHP WARNING: file_exists() [function.file-exists]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/var/lib/php/session/sess_42k7jn3vjenj43g3njorrnrmf2) is not within the allowed path(s): (.:/path/to/vhost/web:/tmp:/usr/share/pear) So the PHP session save_path isn't included in open_basedir but sessions across all sites on the server seems to be working fine apart from in this intermittent instance. I thought that perhaps the default session handler ignored open_basedir and this warning was caused by WP accessing the session file directly. However from what I can see PHP 5.2.4 introduced open_basedir checking to the session.save_path config: http://www.php.net/ChangeLog-5.php#5.2.4 (I am on PHP 5.2.13). Any ideas?

• Programmatically retrieve disconnected network adapter information in .NET

  I have an application written in C# that needs to retrieve information like IP address, subnet mask from a disconnected network adapter. I've tried using various methods such as WMI and the .NET NetworkAdapter class but they don't return any useful data when the network adapter is disconnected. I'm pretty sure Windows keeps this information somewhere, since I can apply network settings using netsh and it appears correctly in the Control Panel. One thing that worked for me in XP was to parse the output of the netsh tool and it would return information even for a disconnected adapter. However, this doesn't seem to work on Windows 7. Win XP output: Configuration for interface "Local Area Connection 5" DHCP enabled: No IP Address: 169.254.0.128 SubnetMask: 255.255.255.0 InterfaceMetric: 0 Win7 output: Configuration for interface "Local Area Connection 2" DHCP enabled: No InterfaceMetric: 5 Any ideas?

• Browser won't connect to svn server

  This has been driving me nuts. For some reason, I can't access my svn repository using a browser in this laptop that I'm using right now (firefox & ie) The connection just times out. I'm at home right now and the server is in another room. It connects OK there and it also connects OK in my virtual machine in this same laptop. I'm pretty stumped right now and can't figure out why this is happening. I've also checked the proxies and I'm 100% sure I'm not using any at all. The virtual machine running on this laptop is XP 32bit and this one is a Win7 64 bit. Thanks

• ASP.NET - Missing #includes cause compilation errors: Failed to map the path '...'

  I have an ASP.NET application which features some server-side includes. For example: <!--#include virtual="/scripts.inc" --> These files are not present in my ASP.NET website project because my website starts in a virtual directory: /path-to-my-application When I choose Build Web Site, I get this error: Failed to map the path '/scripts.inc' Visual Studio cannot resolve these include files that are defined at the root directory level. They are not visible in the website project. Aside from manually commenting out the #include references, is there any way I can get the website to build? Can I force Visual Studio to ignore those errors and compile the site? Once the website is pushed out to IIS, there is no problem, because all the #include files are in place. NOTE - Web Controls are not an option for this application. Please assume #include files are a requirement. Also, I cannot move the include files since they are used by other applications.

• How to load entities into private collections using the entity framework

  I have a POCO domain model which is wired up to the entity framework using the new ObjectContext class. public class Product { private ICollection<Photo> _photos; public Product() { _photos = new Collection<Photo>(); } public int Id { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public virtual IEnumerable<Photo> Photos { get { return _photos; } } public void AddPhoto(Photo photo) { //Some biz logic //... _photos.Add(photo); } } In the above example i have set the Photos collection type to IEnumerable as this will make it read only. The only way to add/remove photos is through the public methods. The problem with this is that the Entity Framework cannot load the Photo entities into the IEnumerable collection as it's not of type ICollection. By changing the type to ICollection will allow callers to call the Add mentod on the collection itself which is not good. What are my options? Edit: I could refactor the code so it does not expose a public property for Photos: public class Product { public Product() { Photos = new Collection<Photo>(); } public int Id { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } private Collection<Photo> Photos {get; set; } public IEnumerable<Photo> GetPhotos() { return Photos; } public void AddPhoto(Photo photo) { //Some biz logic //... Photos.Add(photo); } } And use the GetPhotos() to return the collection. The other problem with the approach is that I will loose the change tracking abilities as I cannot mark the collection as Virtual - It is not possible to mark a property as private virtual. In NHibernate I believe it's possible to map the proxy class to the private collection via configuration. I hope that this will become a feature of EF4. Currently i don't like the inability to have any control over the collection!
