  • Unity: Render 2D textures on a 3D object's face

    - by www.Sillitoy.com
I am not familiar with 3D graphics and I'd like to know what is the right way to render some 2D figures on different points of a wider face of a 3D object. My 3D object is just a cube representing a poker table. I have 2D png for players placeholders and I'd like to render these figures on the 3D object where needed. An alternative solution would be to render the whole face with a big picture containing all the placeholders figures. However it would be a waste of memory and thus less efficient. What do you suggest me?

  • how to know if a video file can be played on a dvd player

    - by user23950
Is there an application that can emulate a dvd player? I've converted a .mp4 video using allok video converter. And choose the output format to be xVid(.avi)<--that is exactly what is written on the application. I don't want to waste a blank dvd and try if it really can be played. So if you have tried this before please tell me if it works. And I have tried burning .avi files and it works because they are genuine avi files which I did not convert

  • Android Video Camera : still picture

    - by Alex
I use the camera intent to capture video. Here is the problem: If I use this line of code, I can record video. But onActivityResult doesn't work. Intent intent = new Intent("android.media.action.VIDEO_CAMERA"); If I use this line of code, after press the recording button, the camera is freezed, I mean, the picture is still. Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_VIDEO_CAPTURE); BTW, when I use $Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE); to capture a picture, it works fine. The java file is as follows: package com.camera.picture; import java.io.File; import java.text.SimpleDateFormat; import java.util.Date; import android.app.Activity; import android.content.ContentValues; import android.content.Intent; import android.net.Uri; import android.os.Bundle; import android.os.Environment; import android.provider.MediaStore; import android.util.Log; import android.view.View; import android.widget.Button; import android.widget.ImageView; import android.widget.Toast; import android.widget.VideoView; public class PictureCameraActivity extends Activity { private static final int IMAGE_CAPTURE = 0; private static final int VIDEO_CAPTURE = 1; private Button startBtn; private Button videoBtn; private Uri imageUri; private Uri videoUri; private ImageView imageView; private VideoView videoView; /** Called when the activity is first created. * sets the content and gets the references to * the basic widgets on the screen like * {@code Button} or {@link ImageView} */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); imageView = (ImageView)findViewById(R.id.img); videoView = (VideoView)findViewById(R.id.videoView); startBtn = (Button) findViewById(R.id.startBtn); startBtn.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { startCamera(); } }); videoBtn = (Button) findViewById(R.id.videoBtn); videoBtn.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub startVideoCamera(); } }); } public void startCamera() { Log.d("ANDRO_CAMERA", "Starting camera on the phone..."); String fileName = "testphoto.jpg"; ContentValues values = new ContentValues(); values.put(MediaStore.Images.Media.TITLE, fileName); values.put(MediaStore.Images.Media.DESCRIPTION, "Image capture by camera"); values.put(MediaStore.Images.Media.MIME_TYPE, "image/jpeg"); imageUri = getContentResolver().insert( MediaStore.Images.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI, values); Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE); intent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, imageUri); intent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_VIDEO_QUALITY, 1); startActivityForResult(intent, IMAGE_CAPTURE); } protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) { if (requestCode == IMAGE_CAPTURE) { if (resultCode == RESULT_OK){ Log.d("ANDROID_CAMERA","Picture taken!!!"); imageView.setImageURI(imageUri); } } if (requestCode == VIDEO_CAPTURE) { if (resultCode == RESULT_OK) { Log.d("ANDROID_CAMERA","Video taken!!!"); Toast.makeText(this, "Video saved to:\n" + data.getData(), Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); videoView.setVideoURI(videoUri); } } } private void startVideoCamera() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub //create new Intent Log.d("ANDRO_CAMERA", "Starting camera on the phone..."); String fileName = "testvideo.mp4"; ContentValues values = new ContentValues(); values.put(MediaStore.Video.Media.TITLE, fileName); values.put(MediaStore.Video.Media.DESCRIPTION, "Video captured by camera"); values.put(MediaStore.Video.Media.MIME_TYPE, "video/mp4"); videoUri = getContentResolver().insert( MediaStore.Video.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI, values); Intent intent = new Intent("android.media.action.VIDEO_CAMERA"); //Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_VIDEO_CAPTURE); intent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, videoUri); intent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_VIDEO_QUALITY, 1); // start the Video Capture Intent startActivityForResult(intent, VIDEO_CAPTURE); } private static File getOutputMediaFile() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub // To be safe, you should check that the SDCard is mounted // using Environment.getExternalStorageState() before doing this. • How to detect time on a playing Flash video

    - by 6bytes
Hi I have a video playing on my page. I want to show and hide some div's when the video reaches a certain point. Lets say hide something on 10th second and show it again on 20th second. I can easily do it in HTML5 with video tag and currentTime attribute but for IE I have to create the same functionality and I think with flash based videos (from YouTube or something like that). Is there a way to detect the current time of a video playing on my website, embeded from YouTube, Metacafe or any other video sharing site? I know I could detect it in flash and make it run some JavaScript function but I don't have flash nor have the skills to do it in AS3. Is it possible to do it from JavaScript level or does any video sharing website out there provides this kind of functionality for their videos?

  • Display streaming video in desktop app.

    - by Roddy
I have a Windows native desktop app (C++/Delphi), and I'm successfully using Directshow to display live video in it from a 'local' video capture device. The next thing I want to do is display video from a 'remote' capture device, streamed over the LAN. To stream the video, I guess I can use something like Expression Encoder or VLC, but I'm not sure what's the easiest way to receive/decode the streamed video. Inserting an ActiveX VLC or Flash player might be one option (although the licensing may be an issue then), but I was wondering if there's any way to achieve this with Directshow... Application needs to run on XP, and the video decoding should ideally be royalty free. Suggestions, please!

  • Loading HTML5 video on iPad via onclick event tied to a div

    - by joncys
I'm developing an HTML5 application (a game), that automatically preloads 5 video files. I'm able to do so correctly on Safari for PC, so there are no overlooked problems with file formats, codecs or such. The load fails on an iPad. As an official guide for video on iOS puts it: This means the JavaScript play() and load() methods are also inactive until the user initiates playback, unless the play() or load() method is triggered by user action. In other words, a user-initiated Play button works, but an onLoad="play()" event does not. Does this mean, that I have no means to initiate the loading of video after a user initiated action, if that action hasn't been tied to a video element (user clicked on a regular div — I request loading and displaying of a video, compared to the user actually clicking on a video element to load and play that particular element)? Thanks for your help!

  • Can I preload multiple video resources to load in the same HTML5 <video> element?

    - by Sergio1132
I'm working out details on a web application which involves the sequential loading of a long series of (very short) video clips, one after the other, with occasional input from the user establishing new directions for which video clips to load. I would like to be able to have the browser preload the video clips five at a time. However, the way that we currently have the site working is by means of a single video element which is having its src attribute continually updated through JavaScript. So, my question is, is there a straightforward way I can get the browser to preload multiple video clips even though I am ultimately loading them all (one at a time) into the same video element? This is my first question here, so let me know if I could have phrased that better...

  • 3D Graphics with XNA Game Studio 4.0 bug in light map?

    - by Eibis
i'm following the tutorials on 3D Graphics with XNA Game Studio 4.0 and I came up with an horrible effect when I tried to implement the Light Map http://i.stack.imgur.com/BUWvU.jpg this effect shows up when I look towards the center of the house (and it moves with me). it has this shape because I'm using a sphere to represent light; using other light shapes gives different results. I'm using a class PreLightingRenderer: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using Microsoft.Xna.Framework; using Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Graphics; using Dhpoware; using Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content; namespace XNAFirstPersonCamera { public class PrelightingRenderer { // Normal, depth, and light map render targets RenderTarget2D depthTarg; RenderTarget2D normalTarg; RenderTarget2D lightTarg; // Depth/normal effect and light mapping effect Effect depthNormalEffect; Effect lightingEffect; // Point light (sphere) mesh Model lightMesh; // List of models, lights, and the camera public List<CModel> Models { get; set; } public List<PPPointLight> Lights { get; set; } public FirstPersonCamera Camera { get; set; } GraphicsDevice graphicsDevice; int viewWidth = 0, viewHeight = 0; public PrelightingRenderer(GraphicsDevice GraphicsDevice, ContentManager Content) { viewWidth = GraphicsDevice.Viewport.Width; viewHeight = GraphicsDevice.Viewport.Height; // Create the three render targets depthTarg = new RenderTarget2D(GraphicsDevice, viewWidth, viewHeight, false, SurfaceFormat.Single, DepthFormat.Depth24); normalTarg = new RenderTarget2D(GraphicsDevice, viewWidth, viewHeight, false, SurfaceFormat.Color, DepthFormat.Depth24); lightTarg = new RenderTarget2D(GraphicsDevice, viewWidth, viewHeight, false, SurfaceFormat.Color, DepthFormat.Depth24); } technique Technique1 { pass Pass1 { VertexShader = compile vs_1_1 VertexShaderFunction(); PixelShader = compile ps_2_0 PixelShaderFunction(); } } I don't have any idea on what's wrong... googling the web I found that this tutorial may have some bug but I don't know if it's the LightModel fault (the sphere) or in a shader or in the class PrelightingRenderer. Any help is very appreciated, thank you for reading!

  • How Do I Import a 3D Object into Adobe Flex?

    - by Kim
Hi everyone, I wanted to know if anyone here knows how to import a 3D Object (i.e. Maya 3D Model) into Adobe Flex Application? I needed to create a simple Flex application which will allow me to rotate the 3D Object by dragging but I cannot seem to start doing it because I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how I can import my 3D model into Flex. This is exactly what I wanted to do: 3D Object in Flex I hope someone can help me. Thanks a lot :)

  • How to export 3D models that consist of several parts (eg. turret on a tank)?

    - by Will
What are the standard alternatives for the mechanics of attaching turrets and such to 3D models for use in-game? I don't mean the logic, but rather the graphics aspects. My naive approach is to extend the MD2-like format that I'm using (blender-exported using a script) to include a new set of properties for a mesh that: is anchored in another 'parent' mesh. The anchor is a point and normal in the parent mesh and a point and normal in the child mesh; these will always be colinear, giving the child rotation but not translation relative to the parent point. has a normal that is aligned with a 'target'. Classically this target is the enemy that is being engaged, but it might be some other vector e.g. 'the wind' (for sails and flags (and smoke, which is a particle system but the same principle applies)) or 'upwards' (e.g. so bodies of riders bend properly when riding a horse up an incline etc). that the anchor and target alignments have maximum and minimum and a speed coeff. there is game logic for multiple turrets and on a model and deciding which engages which enemy. 'primary' and 'secondary' or 'target0' ... 'targetN' or some such annotation will be there. So to illustrate, a classic tank would be made from three meshes; a main body mesh, a turret mesh that is anchored to the top of the main body so it can spin only horizontally and a barrel mesh that is anchored to the front of the turret and can only move vertically within some bounds. And there might be a forth flag mesh on top of the turret that is aligned with 'wind' where wind is a function the engine solves that merges environment's wind angle with angle the vehicle is travelling in an velocity, or something fancy. This gives each mesh one degree of freedom relative to its parent. Things with multiple degrees of freedom can be modelled by zero-vertex connecting meshes perhaps? This is where I think the approach I outlined begins to feel inelegant, yet perhaps its still a workable system? This is why I want to know how it is done in professional games ;) Are there better approaches? Are there formats that already include this information? Is this routine?

It's completly unusable... I tried: Totem VLC mplayer The result is always same issue. I sent the same video file to a friend who has ubuntu 10.04 to test, and he also has the same issue. He has Windows 7, and confirms that on Windows, the video work well. I have an Intel® Core™2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86GHz × 2 with GF 9600 GT, with closed NVIDIA drivers. This is not any kind of issue with big files playing slow from an HDD issue. I have an SSD drive! I spent the last days and nights, trying hundreds of commands for ffmpeg, handbrake, mencoder... Any of them won't let me create a file with enough quality. I downloaded few movies from YouTube in 1080p, and playback worked well without any big pixels and choppiness. I would like have highest possible quality, I will put following files onto a Blu-ray disk so I don't need to compress them to get a smaller size. I just want smoth playback on my Linux box. On Windows, the same file is working well.

  • How to convert an MKV to AVI with minimal loss

To convert an MKV to AVI, I do two things. The first thing I do is this: ffmpeg -i filename.mkv -vcodec copy -acodec copy output.avi This converts the MKV to an AVI, but the problem is that the video does not play smoothly for some reason. That's fine, because if I do one more thing it gets fixed: ffmpeg -i output.avi -vcodec mpeg4 -b 4000k -acodec mp2 -ab 320k converted.avi After I do this then the file plays without problem. I had success doing it this way for one file, but then I tried it on another file, and there is a slight, but noticeable loss in video quality. This is the output I get when doing the second step: FFmpeg version 0.6.1, Copyright (c) 2000-2010 the FFmpeg developers built on Dec 29 2010 18:02:10 with gcc 4.2.1 (Apple Inc. build 5664) configuration: libavutil 50.15. 1 / 50.15. 1 libavcodec 52.72. 2 / 52.72. 2 libavformat 52.64. 2 / 52.64. 2 libavdevice 52. 2. 0 / 52. 2. 0 libswscale 0.11. 0 / 0.11. 0 Seems stream 0 codec frame rate differs from container frame rate: 359.00 (359/1) -> 29.92 (359/12) Input #0, avi, from 'output.avi': Metadata: ISFT : Lavf52.64.2 Duration: 00:04:17.21, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 3074 kb/s Stream #0.0: Video: mpeg4, yuv420p, 704x480 [PAR 229:189 DAR 5038:2835], 29.92 fps, 29.92 tbr, 29.92 tbn, 359 tbc Stream #0.1: Audio: vorbis, 48000 Hz, stereo, s16 Output #0, avi, to 'nidome_no_kanojo.avi': Metadata: ISFT : Lavf52.64.2 Stream #0.0: Video: mpeg4, yuv420p, 704x480 [PAR 229:189 DAR 5038:2835], q=2-31, 4000 kb/s, 29.92 tbn, 29.92 tbc Stream #0.1: Audio: mp2, 48000 Hz, stereo, s16, 320 kb/s Stream mapping: Stream #0.0 -> #0.0 Stream #0.1 -> #0.1 I just used arbitrarily large settings on the second step and it worked nicely before but not in this case. What settings should I use?

  • CAD like 3D geometry .NET library

    - by Naszta
I am looking for a good 3D CAD like library. I need basic geometry shapes (cube, sphere, torus etc.) and the library should make the surface mesh - based on the shapes and some boolean operations. I have found many libraries on google (wrapped on C++), but most of them are not really comfortable, and/or do not support union/intersection. http://www.geometros.com/sgcore/index.htm - it has wrapped interface, http://www.opencsg.org/ - I haven't found wrapped interface, http://carve-csg.com/ - I haven't found wrapped interface, http://gts.sourceforge.net/ - I haven't found wrapped interface, http://www.ogre3d.org/ - I haven't found basic geometric shapes and boolean operators, http://brlcad.org/ - its interface is not clear for me, I haven't found wrapped interface, http://www.cgal.org/ - currently I try to make it work, I haven't found wrapped interface, http://www.k-3d.org/ - I haven't found wrapped interface, http://www.opencascade.org/ - I haven't found wrapped interface, http://ilnumerics.net/ - it does not support solid boolean operations, http://www.techsoft3d.com/ - seems to be really good one. Support both C++ and C#, http://www.devdept.com/products/eyeshot/ - one more C# library. It was not tested. Open source would be nice, but not necessary. Many thanks for help. P.S.: the previous topic Update: in C# we will use Eyeshot project.

  • Keeping video viewing statistics breakdown by video time in a database

    - by Septagram
I need to keep a number of statistics about the videos being watched, and one of them is what parts of the video are being watched most. The design I came up with is to split the video into 256 intervals and keep the floating-point number of views for each of them. I receive the data as a number of intervals the user watched continuously. The problem is how to store them. There are two solutions I see. Row per every video segment Let's have a database table like this: CREATE TABLE `video_heatmap` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `video_id` int(11) NOT NULL, `position` tinyint(3) unsigned NOT NULL, `views` float NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`), UNIQUE KEY `idx_lookup` (`video_id`,`position`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM Then, whenever we have to process a number of views, make sure there are the respective database rows and add appropriate values to the views column. I found out it's a lot faster if the existence of rows is taken care of first (SELECT COUNT(*) of rows for a given video and INSERT IGNORE if they are lacking), and then a number of update queries is used like this: UPDATE video_heatmap SET views = views + ? WHERE video_id = ? AND position >= ? AND position < ? This seems, however, a little bloated. The other solution I came up with is Row per video, update in transactions A table will look (sort of) like this: CREATE TABLE video ( id INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, heatmap BINARY (4 * 256) NOT NULL, ... ) ENGINE=InnoDB Then, upon every time a view needs to be stored, it will be done in a transaction with consistent snapshot, in a sequence like this: If the video doesn't exist in the database, it is created. A row is retrieved, heatmap, an array of floats stored in the binary form, is converted into a form more friendly for processing (in PHP). Values in the array are increased appropriately and the array is converted back. Row is changed via UPDATE query. So far the advantages can be summed up like this: First approach Stores data as floats, not as some magical binary array. Doesn't require transaction support, so doesn't require InnoDB, and we're using MyISAM for everything at the moment, so there won't be any need to mix storage engines. (only applies in my specific situation) Doesn't require a transaction WITH CONSISTENT SNAPSHOT. I don't know what are the performance penalties of those. I already implemented it and it works. (only applies in my specific situation) Second approach Is using a lot less storage space (the first approach is storing video ID 256 times and stores position for every segment of the video, not to mention primary key). Should scale better, because of InnoDB's per-row locking as opposed to MyISAM's table locking. Might generally work faster because there are a lot less requests being made. Easier to implement in code (although the other one is already implemented). So, what should I do? If it wasn't for the rest of our system using MyISAM consistently, I'd go with the second approach, but currently I'm leaning to the first one. But maybe there are some reasons to favour one approach or another?

I have searched blogs and forums, installed several drivers, but can't find a solution that can provide equivalent video quality as that of Windows 7. Kindly help. Video quality specially color is too bad while playing with any media player. Configuration details are: Ubuntu - 12.04 Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated The results of the following commands are a) sudo lspci | grep VGA 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (primary) (rev 0c) b) find /dev -group video /dev/fb0 /dev/dri/card0 /dev/dri/controlD64 /dev/agpgart c) glxinfo | grep -i vendor server glx vendor string: SGI client glx vendor string: ATI OpenGL vendor string: Tungsten Graphics, Inc d) sudo lshw -C video *-display:0 description: VGA compatible controller product: Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (primary) vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 2 bus info: pci@0000:00:02.0 version: 0c width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: msi pm vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom configuration: driver=i915 latency=0 resources: irq:44 memory:fea00000-feafffff memory:e0000000-efffffff ioport:efe8(size=8) *-display:1 UNCLAIMED description: Display controller product: Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (secondary) vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 2.1 bus info: pci@0000:00:02.1 version: 0c width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm bus_master cap_list configuration: latency=0 resources: memory:feb00000-febfffff I have spent days installing various drivers, and then un-installing but can't come up with a solution. Please help.
