    Friends-- Cannot connect reliably to ethernet nor at all to Internet: Symptoms: About 2 weeks ago did an upgrade. Have not been able to connect to ethernet nor Internet. Today, for example, boot up this System76 laptop and there was no network connection.     I just got a new notebook, a ThinkPad Edge E530, and installed Ubuntu on it. I'm pretty new to Ubuntu. On the same laptop, running Windows 7, the Wi-Fi connection works fine. Ethernet connection works both on Win7 and on Ubuntu. Only Wi-Fi on Ubuntu does not work; it connects to the Wi-Fi access point but I don't have Internet access.     I picked up some adware that adds irrelevant advertisements to Google and Wikipedia. I have scanned with MalwareBytes, Windows Defender (Which is the same as MSE in Windows 8), Ad Aware, Spybot, and McAfee, which found no results. This only occurs in Internet Explorer 10, not in Firefox or Iron. I would like to keep IE10, I think it is a major improvement from previous versions. Any ideas on how to remove the adware?

    Is there a way to configure Internet Explorer's "Open links from other programs in:" option per program? I'm looking for a way to allow different programs to act differently when clicking hyperlinks. For example, if I click a hyperlink in Microsoft Outlook I'd prefer it to open a new tab in the current window (option 2) but if I click a link out of an instant messenger program I'd prefer it to open in the current tab or window (option 3). Version wise I'm looking for a way to do it with IE 8+.

    I keep on seeing issues people are having with their wireless. I am having an issue with being wired into my router. I installed Ubuntu 11.10 the other day, on my custom PC. The motherboard I have installed on this PC is an ASUS P8H61-M. The issue I am having is with my speed. I have a dual boot, windows 7 and the new Ubuntu. On my Windows install I am getting test speeds from Speakeasy at 17Mbps and actual downloads around 2-3MB/s. With Ubuntu, I am getting test speeds from Speakeasy at 1.14Mbps and actual downloads around 60KB/s. I have disabled IPv6 and am no using GoogleDNS for my DNS, but it hasn't resolved the issue. I have scanned my router (WRT54GS Linksys) to disable IPv6 connections, and I am not seeing any option for that. I cannot figure out why I am getting such sluggish internet connection. Any help to resolve would be great!   • Why is android:transcriptMode="normal" not working properly?

    I've been doing a lot of fiddling with an issue I've been having. What happens is each time an item gets added to my listview (adapter) I expect it to auto-scroll if I'm at the last item (which it will do to an extent); HOWEVER, if 3 or more items get added at once, it will not auto-scroll. Here is the XML of that listview: <ListView android:id="@android:id/list" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="0dip" android:layout_weight="1" android:transcriptMode="normal"/> I tried a workaround using a snippet I found here. My code is as follows: public void addChat(final String text, final String username) { this.runOnUiThread(new Runnable() { public void run() { globals.chatAdapter.add(DateFormat.format("hh:mmaa", Calendar.getInstance()).toString(), username, text); globals.chatAdapter.notifyDataSetChanged(); int lastP = getListView().getLastVisiblePosition(); int count = globals.chatAdapter.getCount() - 1; if (lastP == globals.chatAdapter.oldP || lastP == -1) { getListView().setSelection(count); } globals.chatAdapter.oldP = count; } }); } The problem with this is when a bunch of items come in at once, getListView().getLastVisiblePosition() will not update right away causing a setSelection() to never get called, and thus no auto-scroll. Any suggestions?

  • Stretching width correctly to 100% of an inline-block element in IE6 and IE7

    I have the following markup, where I am attempting to get the right hand side of the second table to align with the right hand side of the heading above it. This works in IE8, Firefox and Chrome, but in IE6/7 the table is incorrectly stretched to fill the width of the page. I'm using the Trip Switch hasLayout trigger to apply inline-block in IE6/7. Does anyone know how (or even if) I can get the table only to fill the natural width of the wrapper element displayed with inline-block in IE6/7?   • Video playback on VideoView disappears after going back from another Activity

After going back to first Activity I can hear sound but see no picture.   • IE 8 Caching Problem

    One of my javascript sources had an extra comma that was throwing an error in IE8. So I opened up my editor, deleted the comma, and saved. I reloaded IE8, but it was still pulling the old js file. I deleted everything in "Delete Browsing History...", and restarted the browser. It is still pulling the old file. I even set up a log on my server to show whenever the js file was requested. When reloading with IE, the js file is never requested. I tried doing the same process in Chrome and FF, and it pulled the new file and logged properly on the server. Is there some other cache that I am failing to clear in IE that would cause this problem?

    I am displaying a progress bar using Async task class and simulatneously in parallel operation , i want to retrieve a string array from a function of another class that takes some time to return the string array. The problem is that when i place the function call in doing backgroung function of AsyncTask class , it gives an error in Doing Background and gives the message as cant change the UI in doing Background .. Therefore , i placed the function call in post Execute method of Asynctask class . It doesnot give an error but after the progress bar has reached 100% , then the screen goes black and takes some time to start the new activity.
