• What's the right way to calculate derived data in a Flex AdvancedDataGrid using summaries?

  Here's the gist of the problem: I have a set of rows of data with (say) field1 to field4 in them. I'm using a GroupingCollection to group on field1 and field2. So, I have something like this: f1.1 f2.1 f3.1 f4.1 f3.2 f4.2 f2.2 f3.3 f4.3 f3.4 f4.4 f3.5 f4.5 f1.2 f2.1 f3.6 f4.6 f2.2 f3.7 f4.7 f3.8 f4.8 f3.9 f4.9 (or at least, I hope that's clear enough) I need to calculate some derived values for each leaf row, for example f3, that is the ratio of f3 to the average of all f3 in that particular part of the tree. So, for f3.7 I need to calculate f3.7 / avg(f3.7..f3.9) and fill that into the f3_index property on the row, displaying that in lieu of f3 itself. So, basically, what it looks like I have to do is add source field values in the summarizeFunction implementation. It seems to me that there must be a better way of doing this. Is there?

• Consolidate data from many different databases into one with minimum latency

  I have 12 databases totaling roughly 1.0TB, each on a different physical server running SQL 2005 Enterprise - all with the same exact schema. I need to offload this data into a separate single database so that we can use for other purposes (reporting, web services, ect) with a maximum of 1 hour latency. It should also be noted that these servers are all in the same rack, connected by gigabit connections and that the inserts to the databases are minimal (Avg. 2500 records/hour). The current method is very flakey: The data is currently being replicated (SQL Server Transactional Replication) from each of the 12 servers to a database on another server (yes, 12 different employee tables from 12 different servers into a single employee table on a different server). Every table has a primary key and the rows are unique across all tables (there is a FacilityID in each table). What are my options, these has to be a simple way to do this.

• MSNP-Sharp Example fails to login, gives SocketException

  I've just downloaded the MSNP-Sharp library with the aim of creating my own messaging client, however I am struggling to get the example to sign in. The code all compiles and runs, but when I provide my login details and select "Login" I almost immediately get the following SocketException: "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 64.4.9.254:1863" I've stepped through the code and it's the messenger.Connect() function that is causing this, somewhat obviously. When I run the example I only change the login and password details. I am running Windows 7 x86 with the latest version of Windows Live Messenger. I have tried disabling my antivirus, even going as far as to temporarily uninstall it in case that was the error. I have also tried disabling Windows Firewall, with no luck.

• Optimising SQL distance query

  I'm running an MySQL query that returns results based on location. However I have noticed recently that its really slowing down my PHP app. I used CodeIgniter and the profiler shows the query taking 4.2seconds. The geoname table has 500,000 rows. I have some indexes on the key columns, how else can speed up this query?   Hello, Thanks for taking the time to read my question. If I build a program, how can I get it to hide in the notifications area(windows 7, cant remember what it's called in XP or Vista) when I minimize it? Like say a Torrent program, or a AntiVirus program. Also I'd like to know, how can I hide it from the notifications area and bring it up when it a hotkey command is entered? These two tables are defined as: Movie ----- ID (int) Title (nvchar) MovieReview ----------- ID (int) MovieID (int) StoryRating (decimal) HumorRating (decimal) ActingRating (decimal) I have a stored procedure that allows the user to query movies based on other user's reviews. Currently, I have a temporary table that is populated with the following query: SELECT m.*, (SELECT COUNT(ID) FROM MovieReivew r WHERE r.MovieID=m.ID) as 'TotalReviews', (SELECT AVG((r.StoryRating + r.HumorRating + r.ActingRating) / 3) FROM MovieReview r WHERE r.MovieID=m.ID) as 'AverageRating' FROM Movie m In a later query in my procedure, I basically want to say: SELECT * FROM MyTempTable t WHERE t.AverageRating >= @lowestRating AND t.AverageRating <= @highestRating My problem is, sometimes AverageRating is zero. Because of this, I'm not sure what to do. How do I handle this scenario in SQL?

• my realtime network receiving time differs a lot, anyone can help?

  I wrote a program using tcpip sockets to send commands to a device and receive the data from the device. The data size would be around 200kB to 600KB. The computer is directly connected to the device using a 100MB network. I found that the sending packets always arrive at the computer at 100MB/s speed (I have debugging information on the unit and I also verified this using some network monitoring software), but the receiving time differs a lot from 40ms to 250ms, even if the size is the same (I have a receiving buffer about 700K and the receiving window of 8092 bytes and changing the window size does not change anything). The phenomena differs also on different computers, but on the same computer the problem is very stable. For example, receiving 300k bytes on computer a would be 40ms, but it may cost 200ms on another computer. I have disabled firewall, antivirus, all other network protocol except the TCP/IP. Any experts on this can give me some hints?

• Application settings methods? c++

  I am thinking about adding configurable settings to an application, and I think the easiest ways are an external file or win registry (its a win only app). Which way would be better? I was wondering, an user with not enough permissions may not be able to create/write the config file. And in the case of the registry, would todays antivirus allow me to add/edit/remove keys? Or they only monitor certain keys? Also, if someone knows a class/lib to manage config settings (in pure win32) in vc++ please post it.

• Application.Idle causes high CPU usage

  Hello, I use the Application.Idle event to handle toolbar status (enable/disable) etc. quite extensively. As I'm beta testing Norton AntiVirus 2011, it brought to my attention that my app that I'm developing triggered a high CPU usage warning on at least one CPU. Sure enough, I opened the task manager and watched one of the four CPU's (quad core system) go to near 100%. I thought Application.Idle was the way to handle things when the application wasn't performing CPU tasks. Why is Application.Idle spiking the CPU? I'm writing a query to give an average transaction time.   I m sry if the title is not clear. Here's my proble. I created a new table which will show total, average and maximum values. I have to insert the results into that table. That table will have only 4 rows. No Appointment, Appointment Early, Appointment Late and Appointment Punctual. So.. I have sth like.. insert into newTable select 'No Appointment' as 'Col1', avg statement, total statement, max statement from orgTable where (general conditions) and (unique condition to check NO APPOINTMENT); I have to do that same thing for another 3 rows.. where only the unique condition is different to check early, punctual or late.. So..the statement is super long. I wanna reduce the size.. How can I achieve that?

• (VB or C#) Run app in system tray and listen to keyboard input even when the app is not in focus

  I want to make an app which on loading sits in the system tray and even after I open another program (say notepad or vlc or anything) i.e. even when the app is not in focus and if I press "G" on my keyboard, the tray icon should show a tool tip - "key G is pressed". I have tried several codes but nothing works when the app goes out of focus. I can use Register Hot Key (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms646309(VS.85).aspx) but it needs a modifier also (like Ctrl or Alt etc. along with my key G). So, is there any way I can achieve this? something which many tray icons do like antivirus apps, etc. and I do not want to use AutoHotkey application. I want to build one but need some help. Thanks!

• MySQL Rating system (calculating average from two tables).

  I have two tables, videos and videos_ratings. The videos table has an int videoid field (and many others but those fields are not important I think) and many records. The videos_ratings table has 3 int fields: videoid, rating, rated_by which has many records (multiple records for each fields from the videos table) but not for all records from the videos table. Currently I have the following mysql query: SELECT `videos`.*, avg(`videos_ratings`.`vote`) FROM `videos`, `videos_ratings` WHERE `videos_ratings`.`videoid` = `videos`.`videoid` GROUP BY `videos_ratings`.`videoid` ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT 0, 12 It selects all the records from table videos that have a rating in table video_ratings and calculates the average correctly. But what I need is to select all records from the videos table, no matter if there is a rating for that record or not. And if there aren't any records in the videos_ratings table for that particular videos record, the average function should show 0. Hope someone could understand what I want... :) Thanks!

• MySQL does not work on localhost without Local Area Connection

  I use WampServer(Apache, PHP, MySQL) and have no problems when some kind of network adapter(wireless or lan) is connected(i-e Local Area Connection has status connected) 'even if i am not connected to the internet'(for example when i am connected to the router but that is not connected to the internet). When there is no network connection, i get a php error like MySQL could not connect to 127.0.0.1 on port 3306. Interestingly, 'telnet 127.0.0.1 3306' says that it could not connect to the port, even when the server and MySQL are running fine(i-e when some kind of local area connection is connected). So i turned off all kinds of firewall(antivirus and windows) but still no difference in anything. And that is why this issue is quite puzzling. Things i have already tried(will update this list along the way):- -The skip-networking directive in my.ini.

• How to track down a Blue Screen of Death triggered by an (usermode) application

  We have a .Net application consisting of mixed managed and unmanaged code. We have a number of reports of users getting BSOD while using our application. These blue screens happen on different versions of Windows. Mostly XP but one user claims it happens on Windows 7. Some users see it happening when doing one thing, other see it happening when doing something completely different. Of course, we cannot reproduce the problem. Needless to say, I'm stumped. A user mode application shouldn't be able to blue screen the OS so we are running into a bug in a common kernel space application, perhaps buggy antivirus software? Does anyone have any tips on how to track something like this down? We don't have access to a computer where this is happening so we wouldn't be able to hook up a kernel debugger or anything like that.
