  • Documentation often ommits to specify which flavour of regular expression to use, so is there a default flavour that we should all be familiar with?

    Often I come across documentation that says "use a regular expression here" I have to spend quite some time digging around trying to work out which regular expression format they are expecting. As far as I can tell, there are many types of regular expression. But, at my last place of work I was made to feel stupid when I suggested adding some text to our User Documentation to specify the type of regular expression to be used. When someone says "a regular expression" what is the regular expression syntax most people expect and where is it documented? Update: I was prompted to single-out some examples - but no disrespect to these great projects: eregi docs page is not particularly helpful in explaining expected syntax. Nor can I easily work out the syntax expected here if i just land on the page from a search. No explicit mention of the regular expression pattern expected by PatternExpectation() on the SimpleTest page. etc. etc. here is a highly voted SO answer that seems to assume there is only one flavour of regular expressions.

    We have an internal company wiki. The wiki engine being used is MediaWiki, the wiki engine that runs Wikipedia. Some of it contains IT stuff. One of the things i want want to have are hyperlinks to the various virtual machines. An example of a command, as it needs to run, is: vmrc://solo.avatopia.com:5901/Windows 2000 Server My first thought was to convert the URL into a link: [vmrc://solo.avatopia.com:5901/Windows 2000 Server] But the content renders literally as above: with the square brackets and all. Testing with other URL protocols: [http://solo.avatopia.com] [ftp://solo.avatopia.com] [ldap://solo.avatopia.com] [vmrc://solo.avatopia.com] Only the first two work, and are converted to hyperlinks. The other two remain as liternal text. How can i add URLs to MediaWiki powered documentation? Original Question We have an internal company wiki. What is the correct answer? i don't want to happen to randomly stumble on some format that happens to work today, and breaks in the future.

  • Codesign returns exit code of 11 for xcode iphone project -- can't find documentation on exit code 1

    Hi Everyone, I'm new to iPhone development. I am trying to get Xcode to run an application on a phone. The app works fine in the simulator. Initially I hit the error: The executable was signed with invalid entitlements I followed the steps here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1074546/the-executable-was-signed-with-invalid-entitlements But now I am getting an exit code of 11. I checked the documentation on codesign but I can't find any mention of an exit code 11 (http://gemma.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/man1/codesign.1.html) Below is the log I am getting. Maven grabs all the dependencies that are needed to build a project, including the RESTEasy fraemwork, right? So why the contradiction here? Wish that the documentation would anticipate common questions and be written more clearly.

    Hello, It looks like the final release for ASP.NET MVC 2 has been already around for 2 weeks. Unfortunately, I can't find documentation that's intended for MVC 2 exclusively. I've checked Amazon.com (no book yet on MVC2), ScottGu's Blog (only 2 short posts), ASP.NET/MVC website (they've only posted what are alreadi in the ScottGu's blog).   • How does one quickly access ruby and rails documentation when using vim?

    Hey all, What method are vim users out there using to quickly access documentation for both ruby and rails (other than switching to the browser to use ruby-doc or railsapi?). I was trying to adapt this script (http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/Online_documentation_for_word_under_cursor) to do the trick however it's only going to work if the cursor is over a class name and I'd like it to work with both class and methods.   • Beyond the @Produces annotation, how does Jersey (JAX-RS) know to treat a POJO as a specific mime ty

    I see a lot of examples for Jersey that look something like this: public class ItemResource { @GET @Path("/items") @Produces({"text/xml", "application/json"}) public List<Item> getItems() { List<Item> items = new ArrayList<Item>(); Item item = new Item(); item.setItemName("My Item Name!"); items.add(item); return items; } } But then I have trouble dissecting Item, and how Jersey knows how to translate an Item to either XML or JSON. I've seen very basic examples that just return a String of constructed HTML or XML, which makes more sense to me, but I'm missing the next step. I looked at the samples, and one of them stood out (the json-from-jaxb sample), since the object was marked with these types of annotations: @XmlAccessorType(XmlAccessType.FIELD) @XmlType(name = "", propOrder = { "flight" }) @XmlRootElement(name = "flights") I'm looking for tutorials that cover this "translation" step-by-step, or an explanation here of how to translate a POJO to output as a specific mime type. I've installed SOAPlib and I've tried to read their Client documentation, but I don't understand it too well.   • jQuery: Stop browser scrolling on event update beyond the fold?

    I have several links at the bottom of my page that update content at the top of my page (more than a viewport away). Here's the gist of what the update looks like: $('#private-photo div').fadeOut(function() { $(this).html('<%= escape_javascript(image_tag current_user.private_photo.image.url(:profile)) %>'); }).fadeIn(); Basically it's just fading out the old content and fading in the new content. My problem is that when this happens, the browser window automatically scrolls up just far enough so that the bottom of the updated content (#private-photo div) appears at the top of the browser viewport. I do not want this to happen. I want the content to be updated (still fading in and out), but without the browser viewport realigning its focus. I want to keep the animation because if the user has a big enough screen, or if they are using a link closer to the top of the page, I still want them to see the animation. Any ideas about how to prevent the browser from scrolling as described? If not, any suggestions for workarounds? FYI, I have this same problem in Safari 4, Chrome (for Mac), & Firefox 3.5.   • How to make scipy.interpolate give a an extrapolated result beyond the input range?

    I'm trying to port a program which uses a hand-rolled interpolator (developed by a mathematitian colleage) over to use the interpolators provided by scipy. I'd like to use or wrap the scipy interpolator so that it has as close as possible behavior to the old interpolator. A key difference between the two functions is that in our original interpolator - if the input value is above or below the input range, our original interpolator will extrapolate the result. If you try this with the scipy interpolator it raises a ValueError. Consider this program as an example: import numpy as np from scipy import interpolate x = np.arange(0,10) y = np.exp(-x/3.0) f = interpolate.interp1d(x, y) print f(9) print f(11) # Causes ValueError, because it's greater than max(x) Is there a sensible way to make it so that instead of crashing, the final line will simply do a linear extrapolate, continuing the gradients defined by the first and last two pouints to infinity. Note, that in the real software I'm not actually using the exp function - that's here for illustration only!

  • Using mercurial and beyond compare 3(bc3) as the diff tool? help needed

    Hi, in windows I am able to use winmerge as the external diff tool for hg using mercurial.ini,etc. Using some options switch that you can find in web(I think it's a japanese website) Anyway, here for example: hg winmerge -r1 -r2 will list file(s) change(s) between rev1 and rev2 in winmerge. I can just click which file to diff but for bc3: hg bcomp -r1 -r2 will make bc3 open a dialog which stated that a temp dir can't be found. The most I can do using bc3 and hg is hg bcomp -r1 -r2 myfile.cpp which will open diff between rev1 and rev2 of myfile.cpp So,it seems that hg+bc3 can't successfully acknowledge of all files change between revision. Only able to diff 1 file at a time. Anyone can use bc3 + hg better ? edit: Problem Solved ! Got the solution from scooter support page. I have to use bcompare instead of bcomp Here's a snippet of my mercurial.ini [extensions] hgext.win32text = ;mhd adds hgext.extdiff = ;mhd adds for bc [extdiff] cmd.bc3 = bcompare opts.bc3 = /ro ;mhd adds for winmerge ;[extdiff] ;cmd.winmerge = WinMergeU ;opts.winmerge = /r /e /x /ub

  • jQuery: Targeting elements added via *non-jQuery* AJAX before any Javascript events fire? Beyond th

    Working on a Wicket application that adds markup to the DOM after onLoad via Wicket's built-in AJAX for an auto-complete widget. We have an IE6 glitch that means I need to reposition the markup coming in, and I am trying to avoid tampering with the Wicket javascript... blah blah blah... here's what I'm trying to do: New markup arrives in the DOM (I don't have access to a callback) Somehow I know this, so I fire my code. I tried this, hoping the new tags would trigger onLoad events: $("selectorForNewMarkup").live("onLoad", function(){ //using jQuery 1.4.1 //my code }); ...but have become educated that onLoad only fires on the initial page load. Is there another event fired when elements are added to the DOM? Or another way to sense changes to the DOM? Everything I've bumped into on similar issues with new markup additions, they have access to the callback function on .load() or similar, or they have a real javascript event to work with and live() works perfectly. Is this a pipe dream?

  • How can I draw a shadow beyond a UIView's bounds?

    I'm using the method described at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/805872/how-do-i-draw-a-shadow-under-a-uiview to draw shadow behind a view's content. The shadow is clipped to the view's bounds, although I disabled "Clip Subviews" in Interface Builder for the view. Is it possible to draw a shadow around a view and not only in a view? I don't want to draw the shadow inside the view because the view would receive touch events for the shadow area, which really belongs to the background.

    Although it does not seem possible, I wanted to put this out there to see if others had some innovative solutions to 'dynamically loading and executing code in python' So if one saved code in a database, one could read it and 'exec it', however if one wanted to use it in a similar fashion to the filesystem, one would need to 'save and load the compiled .pyc' create an 'import dbimp' ala 'import imp' etc. any pointers? ideas? thoughts?

I thought this might work, so either modelId or id could be passed in: public class OtherAction extends ModelDrivenAction<ModelObj> { @Override public void prepare() { model = repoService.retrieveModelById(id); } public void setModelId(Long modelId) { this.id = modelId; } } However, server/path/to/other!method?modelId=123 is failing to set id. I thought so long as a setter matched a parameter name the Struts interceptor would call it on action invocation. Am I missing something here?

    OpenAL is such a huge thing, and the documentation doesn't tell what values are acceptable for properties. That's really bad. I'm using the document: "OpenAL_Programmers_Guide.pdf" Whenever I look up a property I'm left in the dark what value might be ok. For example, take AL_PITCH. What value? Maybe someone wrote a better one? Or is there something like a wiki place with more details?

  • Basic CSS: having unordered list extend beyond container div?

    Hi. It's been a bit since I've gotten really into CSS work, I'm trying to make a simple layout with a menubar. The idea is to have a container holding everything in the center of the screen and have a menubar (unordered inline list) that runs the full length of the screen but the list items to be contained in the container. See this pic for a visual example ps. I know this isn't true "programming", but this seemed like the most appropriate place to post this question. Let me know if there's a better /r/ for this to go.
