  Having issues referencing $(this) from within a the nested ajax 'success' function... I know this is a scope issue, but can't seem to find a clean way to close the dialog on a successful update. • Visual Studio 2008 macro only works from the Macro IDE, not the Macro Explorer

  Edit: Creating a new module in the same VSMacros project fixed the problem. The following macro only works if I open the Macro IDE from Visual Studio and run the macro from there. It'd be much more useful if I could just right click the macro from the Macro Explorer from my Visual Studio instance. I must be doing something obviously wrong, but I've never worked with VS macros before. The MessageBox does not appear in either case. • C# WinForms & SQL bindings

  I have a MSSQL database with many tables and relations. I want to bind it to my C# GUI application with text- and combo-boxes. Which one is the best way to do it: (1) Everything done manually by own classes and methods: Import data to dataset or to many datatables separately, then create dictionaries to comboboxes, manually retrieve data to textboxes and create a sql statement if update action will be invoked, or, (2) Done automatically by VS: Connect my controls with BindingSource and BindingNavigator if needed. I know how to deal with the first one, but if the second way would be better, my question is — how to achieve it? I haven't dealt with automatically created databindings and I don't know how to tell to DataBinding property (Key|Value|Text) about relations and current row's ID. And what is the method to cancel/update changes in all GUI elements? I need a simple solution for this scenario. It's a quick-and-dirty academical project, which must only "work" and be as fast implemented as it can. Thanks

  Hi all, I'm using NSURLConnection for downloading some images in my app currently. Before implementing via this, I implemented it by NSData(dataWithContentOfURL) in NSThread. But I wanted to cancel during downloading images, So I changed it to NSURLConnection. But It happens other problem. Performance was very low after changing. For example, There is at least 5seconds for downloading images at NSThread(NSData async) But, There is more than 2 or 3 times than it at NSURLConnection(async) !! Can I enhance performance ?? How?? (* sorry about my question with NSData(dataWithContentOfFile). correct question is dataWithContentOfURL)

• How can I stop Silverlight DataForm immediately saving changes back to underlying object?

  I have a Silverlight master-details DataForm where the DataForm represents a street address. When I edit the Address1 textbox, the value gets automatically committed to the bound Address object once focus leaves the textbox. If I hit the Cancel button, then any changes are undone because Address implements IEditableObject and saves its state. The problem is that since any change is immediately propagated to the underlying object it will be shown in the master grid before the user has actually hit Save. I also have other locations where this data is shown. This is not a very good user experience. I've tried OneWay binding but then I can't commit back without manually copying all the fields over. The only thing I can think of doing is to create a copy of the data first or using OneWay binding, but they both seem a little clumsy. Does DataForm support this way of working?

  I want to capture events that close editor window (tab) in Visual Studio 2008 IDE. When I use dte2.Application.Events.get_CommandEvents(null, 0).BeforeExecute I successfully captured such events: File.Close File.CloseAllButThis File.Exit Window.CloseDocumentWindow and others. If code in window is not acceptable, I stop the event (CancelDefault = true). But if I click "X" button on the right hand side, "Save Changes"; dialog appears, tab with editor window close and I have no any captured events. In this case I can capture WindowClosing event, but can not cancel the event. Is it poosible to handle "x" button click and stop event?

• C# threading pattern that will let me flush

  I have a class that implements the Begin/End Invocation pattern where I initially used ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem() to do thread my work. I now have the side effect where someone using my class is calling the Begin (with callback) a ton of times to do a lot of processing so ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem is creating a ton of threads to do the processing. That in itself isn't bad but there are instances where they want to abandon the processing and start a new process but they are forced to wait for their first request to finish. Since ThreadPool.QueueUseWorkItem() doesn't allow me to cancel the threads I am trying to come up with a better way to queue up the work and maybe use an explicit FlushQueue() method in my class to allow the caller to abandon work in my queue. Anyone have any suggestion on a threading pattern that fits my needs?

In several situations I find it useful to be able to reset the contents of a form or just a single input element and I need any validation errors to disappear.   If I browse to a flex application when recording with VS Test, I can see the calls to WebORB (amf calls). However, when stopping the recording this is what happens: First, Visual Studio detects dynamic parameters, but stays around 20%, and never gets through it. Second, if I cancel the detecting dynamic parameters, and run the web test, the calls to WebORB (amf calls) do not work. In fact, in VS2010, the call to WebORB stays on Submitting... Now, this web test, does it only record url's and query string variables, or does it record the whole request? If it records the whole request, the call to WebORB should work, but it doesn't.

  Hi, I am required to work on a php project that requires the database to cater to multiple users. Generally, the idea is similar to what they have for carbonmade or basecamp, or even wordpress mu. They cater to multiple users, whom are also owners of their accounts. And if they were to cancel/terminate their account, anything on the pages/database would be removed. I am not quite sure how should I design the database? Should it be: separate tables for individual user account separate databases for individual user account or otherwise? • UISearchDisplayController changing row height

  I've set my UITableView row height to in Interface Builder to 54.0. I have a UISearchDisplayController on that view. When the user taps the search bar in it, the table resizes properly. However, when they start typing (and actually doing the search) the row height decreases. It stays wrong until the search taps Cancel. I could find no documentation on this behavior on Apple's site. I've tried setting the row height in UISearchDisplayDelegate delegate calls. This might be the right approach, but I don't know the details and couldn't get it ti work. I've also tried implementing -- (CGFloat)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView -heightForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath;. This worked, but I have thousands of entries in this list and can't take the performance hit. What's the right way to fix this?

  Is it possible to redirect to another page when userclose browser? Attempts: I tried onunload, does not work window.onunload = function redirect(){...} I also tried another method, it does not work as well: window.onbeforeunload = redirect(){...} <body onbeforeunload="return false; redirecty()"> The 3rd method, i want to cancel the onbeforeunload (means delay closing the browser), the I call the redirect function, window.confirm, if yes redirect, if no then close the browser. But it does not work as well. Is there any other way?? Run out of ideas... -- Prompt to let user select whether to redirect to new page when he/she close the browser -- This is the first time, I could not get best answer in stackoverflow :(

  I currently have this workflow in a tab based app: Tab1 loads... ViewOne : UIViewController >> PickerView : UIViewController >> DetailView : UIViewController "" means loads based on user action. I'd like navigation bars on PickerView and DetailView. PickerView just needs a cancel button in the top left of its nav bar. DetailView needs the normal navbar back button. I already have PickerView's nav bar wired up through IB and working. I'm not sure what to do with PickerView's nav bar. PickerView is also loaded from Tab2, who's main view starts as a UINavigationController. PickerView's nav bar works fine in that case. ViewOne should not have a navigation bar. Any ideas?

  There seems to be a difference between the iPhone simulator and actual device when checking if Twitter is available. I check if a Twitter account is setup by using this code: [SLComposeViewController isAvailableForServiceType:SLServiceTypeTwitter]; In the simulator there is a nice UIAlertView informing the user that there are no Twitter accounts setup and two buttons one for Settings and one for Cancel. However when I run my app on my device it will not show the above UIAlertView. Why is that? And how can I catch what button is tapped in the above UIAlertView (since I did not instantiate it?) • SQL Azure and VS 2010B2 or SSMSE 2008

  Ok, I see that people have asked this question before, but I'm seeing some conflicting statements. Can I, or can I not, connect directly to my SQL Azure database from SSMSE 2008? I see posts from before November that the SSMS 2008 RC would be able to connect directly - so I don't understand why the newest SSMSE cannot connect. Is it just a problem with the Express version of SSMS? Where can I find the "non-Express" version, if there is one? I can connect to the database via the cancel and connect method - however, you don't get object explorer that way. I see that there are add-ons for VS.Net to allow you to explore the database but I wanted to do it with the base apps if possible. Thanks

• slide animation skipped when using updatepanel callback

  Hey, I'm trying to use UpdatePanels and JQuery but the panels seem to cancel out the JQuery. I want the user to press the search button, have the system perform the search using AJAX and then display the search results by sliding down the div using JQuery. However, it seems that if there are any delays, (I put the thread to sleep for a second), then the results just appear instead of sliding down. If I remove the sleep thread the sliding animation is fine. • ASP.NET AJAX postback and jQuery

  I have a Textbox, a LinkButton and a RadioButtonList inside an UpdatePanel. When the button is clicked, the UpdatePanel shows matching items in the radiobuttonlist. This works fine, but I now need to make the same happen OnKeyDown on the TextBox. I'm trying to cancel all AJAX requests in progress but not having much luck. Firstly, on every keypress the UpdatePanel posts back, so only one letter can be changed at a time. Secondly, the textbox loses focus on postback. I need to show the list as normal, but OnKeyDown as well as when the button is pressed.
