• VS 2008 SP1 text editor flickering over remote desktop connection

  I am connecting from a Windows 7 x64 machine to my dev machine running Windows XP SP3 using the built in remote desktop client. For most apps it works fine with no problems, for Visual Studio whenever I am typing the entire text editor keeps redrawing. I stumbled across this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/873849/vs-2008-sp1-over-remote-desktop-constant-repainting and I have tried all of the suggestions in it to no effect, including resetting all VS settings back to default then disabling the suggested settings. Has anyone found a reliable solution to this? I feel like I'm going insane with the screen constantly refreshing when I'm working from home. Some additional information: Remote Desktop is set to run at 1680x1050, 15bit color, Low-speed broadband for the experience setting with all but Visual styles and Persistent bitmap caching unchecked. Visual Studio 2008 Team System is running on the dev machine with Service Pack 1 and Power Commands installed.

  Visual Studio added code analysis (/analyze) for C/C++ in order to help identify bad code. This is quite a nice feature but when you deal with and old project you may be overwhelmed by the number of warnings. Most of the problems are generating because the old code is doing some ASSERT at the beginning of the method or function. • can I override/redefine "global" Javascript functions, like confirm() and alert()?

  I want to do some browser automation, and those pesky confirm/alert boxes are a real pain. Disabling javascript completely in this case is not an option, unfortunately. Well, so I was wondering, can I just change the definition of those methods as seen by my browser's javascript interpreter to basically do nothing and return true? Note that I do know about redefining them in the Javascript code directly, e.g. putting in function alert(message) { return true; } but AFAIK this is not a viable approach for this situation because when doing browser automation I have to work with other people's Javascript. Moreover, my program actually begins manipulating these websites already after the page has fully loaded into the browser, so I cannot just first automatically rewrite the javascript and then load the page. Well, so I was wondering if I could instead just "permanently" modify the way alert/confirm are implemented and executed in my browser. Sort of like the equivalent of dll injection and so forth in the realm of windows apps.

• VB.net, disable proxy for entire program

  Ever since upgrading to Visual Studio 2010, I'm running into an issue where the first web request of any type (WebRequest, WebClient, etc.) hangs for about 20 seconds before completing. Subsequent calls work quickly. I've narrowed down the problem to a proxy issue. If I manually disable proxy settings, I don't experience this delay: Dim wrq As WebRequest = WebRequest.Create(Url) wrq.Proxy = Nothing What's strange is that there are no proxy settings enabled on this machine in Internet Options. What I'm wondering is if there is a way to disable proxy settings for my entire project in one shot without explicitly disabling as above for every web object. The main reason I want to be able to do this is that I'm trying to use an API (http://code.google.com/p/google-api-for-dotnet/) which uses web requests, but does not provide any way to manually disable proxy settings. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

• IPhone UIView:Is it possible to enable userinteraction only on subviews?

  Hi guys, I created a viewcontroller that displays a button which is used to slide a view onto the screen. The idea is to place for instance three such viewcontrollers onscreen, resulting in three buttons at the bottom of the screen providing navigation. The viewcontrollers get stacked, so to the top one is now overlaying the other views and therefore the other buttons. Only the top viewcontroller's button is working in this situation, where I would like all three of them to be clickable. I tried disabling userinteraction on the view and enabling it on the buttons only, but it looks like the superview settings overrule the subview settings. Any ideas?

  Hi, Just ran into this recently and I thought it'd be helpful to share. The HTML <label> element is supported in a weird way by iPhone's (v3) browser. Try this: <input type="checkbox" id="chkTest" /><label for="chkTest">Click me!</label> Tapping the "Click me!" label has no effect, the checkbox is not checked. Lack of support in a touch device for <label> elements puzzled me and I tried to overcome this issue by using javascript. The surprise came when a I noticed a void javascript like the one below also did the trick: <input type="checkbox" id="chkTest" /><label for="chkTest" onclick="javascript:void(0);">Click me!</label> HTH Further info: Also works with an empty handler: onclick="" Disabling JavaScript inactivates again the label, even if using the empty handler.

• Dealing with Unity's Global Menu and Overlay Scrollbars under Free Pascal/Lazarus

  I've had some problems under the IDE that were fixed with unsettings and disabling Global menu and the Overlay Scrollbars. I've reported the problem in Lazarus' Mantis: #0021465, #0021467. There is also this bug report talking a bit more about it: #0019266 Their solution was to use unsettings to turn off Global Menu and Overlay Scrollbars. I've had a quick search about the problem and there's an open bug report at Launchpad: overlay scrolling is broken in lazarus. So, is the problem related to "lib overlay scrollbar"? If it is, is there a solution via code, to avoid turning off both the Global Menu and Overlay Scrollbars? If NOT, is there anyone taking notice and fixing the issue? Many thanks, Gus

• Virtual dedicated server repetitive draining RAM, OOM constantly

  My linux (fedora red hat 7) virtual dedicated server has been experiencing OOM multiple times a day for the past several days. I thought the issue was with spamd/spamassassin but after disabling this the errors remains. • Modify EXE to stop launching firefox

  I'm using a wireless modem program from my ISP. This program automatically disconnect when it detects the line is idle. It does so in 2-5 minutes of idle time. Whenever I reconnect, It will automatically fire up my default browser to the ISP portal. I DID NOT pay them to shove their web portal in my face 50 times a day. The ISP provides no options for disabling this behavior. Can someone please show me how to hex edit the EXE program to stop it from annoying the hell out of me?

Basically allowing me to automatically check a user can do a certain thing, and then disabling or enabling menu items etc I am not really looking for asp.net security ... as i need to use it in my own service layer and clients both WEB and WPF will use it.   I have migrated a Web Application from MyEclipse to Eclipse WTP, and I am now in the middle of the first major upgrade to the code base and web pages after the migration, and it is frankly driving me mad that saving a JSP page causes a redeployment of the WHOLE application, as it takes time and that my backend connection does not survive the serialization-deserialization of the session object (which is non-trivial to fix). In addition to that the JSP-editor is insanely slow so I frequently have to pause to let the editor catch up to be certain where my edits go in a small JSP using JavaServer Faces. Disabling validation did not help. The Eclipse Dynamic Web Project depends on several library eclipse projects so I cannot just tell e.g. Jetty to use the WebRoot folder, as several dependencies are then missing from the classpath. The question is: Is there a way of working - ANY way of working - with the Eclipse WTP system that does NOT imply redeploying everything every time any file is saved? I can use Tomcat 5.5 or Jetty 6 as servers.

I'm guessing at this point that the enabled property cannot be animated like opacity can – but I hope I'm wrong. • F10 isn't working properly in VS2005

  When project is stopped (not in the debugging state) and you press F10, normally the debugging session starts and VS stops at the entry point (e.g. Program.Main). That always worked for me in VS2005 and works OK in VS2008. But recently that stopped working in my VS2005 - the project just runs as if I pressed F5, so I have to place a breakpoint at Program.Main when I need to stop at the entry point. Though it continues to work as it should in my VS2008. I suspect, that's because I installed Reflector add-in and it changed some settings in VS2005, but I just can't find out which settings. Also, disabling that add-in has no effect on my issue :-( Please help, thanks in advance.

• Every 3rd Insert Is Slow On Ms Sql 2008

  I have a function that writes 3 lines into a empty table like so: INSERT [dbo].[yaf_ForumAccess] ([GroupID], [ForumID], [AccessMaskID]) VALUES (1, 8, 1) INSERT [dbo].[yaf_ForumAccess] ([GroupID], [ForumID], [AccessMaskID]) VALUES (2, 8, 4) INSERT [dbo].[yaf_ForumAccess] ([GroupID], [ForumID], [AccessMaskID]) VALUES (3, 8, 3) For some reason only the third query takes a long time to execute - and with each insert it grows longer. Profiler Image I have tried disabling all constraints on the table - same result. I just can't figure out why the first two would run so fast - and the last one would take so long. Any help would be greatly appreciated.   I have a problem with the code analysis rule CA1726:UsePreferredTerms. Our business domain has two crucial concepts named Case and Flag. According to CA, it's apparently a deadly sin to use these names, however I really don't care since, as I said, they are crucial concepts in our domain model. CA complains not only about the type declarations but about every method parameter-name aswell. So does anyone know if there is a workaround other than adding loads of suppressions or disabling the rule altogether? Could I add the names to a custom dictionary?

  I have a JCheckBox that should not be checked by the user when a certain other field is empty. So now I want to have an error popup and then reset the checkbox (I've considered disabling the checkbox, but the connection to the other field is non-obvious, and a tooltip text IMO not visible enough). What's the correct way to do that in Swing? Through a PropertyVetoException? Where do I throw it and where do I catch it? My first (probably ugly) idea would be to add a ChangeListener that itself shows the popup and resets the value.

• Windows 7 running as server

  I'm developing a program using Windows 7. There are WCF services (soap, rest) that are used by currently by Silverlight but very soon I'll start development of the mobile application that would make use of these services. On day to day basis I use Mac and Apache to host my website, but during the development of this program I would like to use IIS7 to put my services online. I have absolutely no problems to access all the services via localhost but as soon as I'm trying to connect through the internet I get "The connection has timed out". I'm sure that my router is configured right as it works perfectly fine when I'm on Mac OS, but it looks like Windows simply blocks incoming connections from outside; I cannot even connect from another computer on the same network. So is there a way of using Windows 7 as server with IIS7 or is it only possible with Windows Server? I know it might be like enabling/disabling one setting somewhere but I just cannot find it. Please help.

• nxhtml and geben: debug mode stops responding to keystrokes upon step into html/php mixed line

  I'm using the php debugger geben and nxhtml-mode. While debugging, as soon as I step into a mixed line such as <foo><?php bar(); ?></foo> the debugger is no longer accepting any key-strokes. However, the mode line still indicates the debugger's presence (*debugging*'-entry). I guess this due to nxhtml's mode changes, because it's the exact same behavior geben shows after disabling end re-enabling it. Does anybody use nxhtml together with geben and has fixed it? Or is it possible to configure emacs to enable nxhtml conditionaly, such that php-mode is used instead when the buffer was opened by geben?

  I have configured WordPress to display a static front page as described here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_Reading_SubPanel#Reading_Settings When save changes and try to visit my front page, my browser displays the following error: "The page isn't redirecting properly. Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete." Disabling cookies does not remedy the situation. I'm using the theme, Constructor (http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/constructor), which I suspect may be contributing to the problem. How can I make WordPress properly display my front page?

  Hello, I've been searching for a while and browsing through the samples but could not find a solution to my problem. In Microsoft Chart Control I have created a line series that plots real-time data. As new data points are added, the chart margins will sometimes jump on the form. I have tried disabling the grid lines and have determined that the margins change when the x-axis label overlaps with the y-axis label. I have tried auto-fitting the labels but that does not seem to work probably because it treat x-axis and y-axis separately. Is there any way to prevent the overlap, or keep the labels and corresponding grid lines stationery and just change their value when the data scrolls? Thank you for your help.

• Making a rectangular selection in a RichTextBox with Alt-Left-Mouse sweep?

  There are quite a few applications that allow you to select a box or rectangle of text by sweeping with mouse while the Alt key is pressed. Visual Studio 2010 does this in the code editor, for instance. Emacs does it. Winword does it. We've all seen it. It seems like there must be a standard pattern to follow to encode this behavior but I cannot seem to find it. I suspect I am not Googling with the correct keywords as all I am getting are false hits on rectangle, Alt-Left, sweep, selection, etc. I'm sure I can code it up but it would mean disabling the normal selection code used in, say, RichTextBox. And that sounds ugly, error prone and probably more work than it is worth. Anybody have a suggestion (be nice! :-) ) of how to do this or an example of how it is done?
