• Reduce file size for charts pasted from excel into word

  I have been creating reports by copying some charts and data from an excel document into a word document. I am pasting into a content control, so i use ChartObject.CopyPicture in excel and ContentControl.Range.Paste in word. Next cc End With Creating these reports using Office 2007 yielded files that were around 6MB, but creating them (using the same worksheet and document) in Office 2010 yields a file that is around 10 times as large. After unzipping the docx, I found that the extra size comes from emf files that correspond to charts that are pasted in using VBA. Where they range from 360 to 900 KB before, they are 5-18 MB. And the graphics are not visibly better. I am able to CopyPicture with the format xlBitmap, and while that is somewhat smaller, it is larger than the emf generated by Office 2007 and noticeably poorer quality. Are there any other options for reducing the file size? Ideally, I would like to produce a file with the same resolution for the charts as I did using Office 2007. Is there any way that uses VBA only (without modifying the charts in the spreadsheet)?

• How do you send an extended-ascii AT-command (CCh) from Android bluetooth to a serial device?

  This one really has me banging my head. I'm sending alphanumeric data from an Android app, through the BluetoothChatService, to a serial bluetooth adaptor connected to the serial input of a radio transceiver. Everything works fine except when I try to configure the radio on-the-fly with its AT-commands. The AT+++ (enter command mode) is received OK, but the problem comes with the extended-ascii characters in the next two commands: Changing the radio destination address (which is what I'm trying to do) requires CCh 10h (plus 3 hex radio address bytes), and exiting the command mode requires CCh ATO. I know the radio can be configured OK because I've done it on an earlier prototype with the serial commands from PIC basic, and it also can be configured by entering the commands directly from hyperterm. Both these methods somehow convert that pesky CCh into a form the radio understands. I've have tried just about everything an Android noob could possibly come up with to finagle the encoding such as: private void command_address() { byte[] addrArray = {(byte) 0xCC, 16, 36, 65, 21, 13}; CharSequence addrvalues = EncodingUtils.getString(addrArray, "UTF-8"); sendMessage((String) addrvalues); } but no matter what, I can't seem to get that high-order byte (CCh/204/-52) to behave as it should. All other (< 127) bytes, command or data, transmit with no problem. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. -Dave

• Cannot move ckeditor 4 selection to beginning

  I've been exploring numerous solutions in stackoverflow and elsewhere to try to get ckeditor 4 to scroll to the top after I've programmatically added a number of pages to it, using CKEditor's InsertHtml function. After adding my html, which looks fine, I want to position the cursor at the beginning. Here's one of a variety of things I've tried without success: function MoveCaretToStart(myEditor) { var range = new CKEDITOR.dom.range( editor.document ); range.selectNodeContents(editor.document.getBody()); range.moveToElementEditStart(range.root); // also tried range.collapse(true); range.select(); } ... In my rapid flurry of attempts to not post something stupidly easy to SO, I came upon a solution: y = [] for i in range(0,n): y.append([[]*n for i in range(n)]) Is there an easier/ more intuitive way of doing this?

  I have a Western Digital N900 router. I was hoping I'd be able to throttle users based on their MAC address with it, which isn't possible sadly. Seems simple in principle though, duh. The battle against bandwidth hogging roomates rages on. Could I just set the local IP range to their IP, and then set the Local port range to every single port in existence. Then prioritize their IP to lower than mine? Will this work? What are all the ports? And what's the difference between Local and Remote IPs or Ports?   I have a MS Access database for a small Hotel. On the main form I have Guest Information fields...(Name, Address, Phone#, etc). I also have an Excel file that keeps track of bookings for the Hotel. The following code takes the Guest information from my form in Access and populates the labeled cells in my Excel file.
