• Task ownership with Wordpress - CSS - Designer or Developer?

  We have a dispute regarding who owns which tasks when it comes to the CSS on our live site. Our designer argues that he is not responsible to log-in to word press and modify the css or use ftp for any changes because that's not his job description while developer argues that since it is css, it belongs to designer and that he is to update the changes to the server and then compare and correct the output. I'd like experienced people working in professional development environment to put a light on this scenario. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, or is there a separate forum for business development or project management specific questions?

Edit MySQL Data This may be the coolest feature so far; users will be able to edit the data in a MySQL table using MS Excel in a very friendly and intuitive way.  Edit Data supports inserting new rows, deleting existing rows and updating existing data as easy as playing with data in an Excel’s spreadsheet and pushing changes back to the server.  Also this version contains the following bug fixes: Enabled the following checkboxes in the Append Data's Advanced Options dialog and added code in the Append Data dialog to use the checkboxes as follows: Automatically store the column mapping for the given table     If checked the current mapping will be stored automatically after clicking the Append button if the append operation is successful and there is no mapping for the current connection.schema.table already; the new mapping is stored with a proposed name of Mapping. Reload stored column mapping for the selected table automatically     If checked the first Stored Mapping found where all column names in the source grid match all column names in the target grid is automatically selected and applied when the Append Data dialog is loaded. Fixed code in Append Data that applies a stored column mapping to skip target columns where the associated mapping is empty (saved as a -1). Enclosed the Add-In's startup code in a try-catch block in order to log any possible error thrown during startup; and added information messages to the log at the beginning of the Add-In's startup code and at the end of the shutdown code.  Also changed the wrapper method that calls the MySQLUtility to write messages to the log to make logging easier, thus changed the log call throughout all the code that contains a try-catch block. Added code to the main wix configuration file to check if a newer version is already installed and if so abort the installation Fixed code to refresh the Import Procedure Form's preview grid's data source to repaint its contents every time the Call button is pressed. Added code to re-pull connections after connections are migrated from Excel to Workbench. Fixed code so when the Append Data's Automatic Mapping is performed any subsequent change on a mapping resets the mapping to a Manual Mapping. Added code to the InfoDialog class to set the button text to "Show Details" or "Hide Details" depending on the status of the Details text container. Fixed a GUID in the main wix configuration file so now previous versions are uninstalled during a new installation. Added an option to the Export Data's Advanced Options dialog to remove columns with no data, by default the Export Dialog will only flag those columns as Excluded. Added code to display a warning and paint a column red if the column name in the Export Data dialog is not set, display a warning if the table name is not set, and stack warnings but not display them if a column is Excluded, warnings are displayed normally for columns if they are not Excluded anymore.  Added code to prevent the Append and Export of Data if more than 1 selection is made (selecting more than 1 area holding the Ctrl key while selecting Excel cells). Fixed problem that prevented MySQL for Excel from loading when Display settings in Windows 7 is set to Adjust to Best Performance (Oracle bug 14521405 - UNHANDLED EXCEPTION IS THROWN WHEN LOADING MYSQL FOR EXCEL). Fixed code that renames the auto-generated Primary Key column when the Table name changes since it was not detecting if a column with the same name already existed in the table. The column duplication was not actually happening, it looked that way because the automatically generated PK column was not detecting a column had that same name. Fixed code in Export Data dialog to always set an empty string instead of null to the MySQLDataColumn properties that stores MySQL data types (MySQLDataType, RowsFrom1stDataType and RowsFrom2ndDataType). Added code to display a warning and color red a column which Data Type has not been set by the user or has been manually cleared. Added code to output to the application log exception messages consistently in all places where exceptions are catched. • Expandable or Auto-Resize TextBox Height

  Recently, I was asked to prepare a Facebook like expandable textbox in a ASP.NET web application, where user can input text and the textbox can be re-sized (more specifically the height) dynamically. I searched for a while and found quite a lot of solutions that use jQuery (example). However, I was looking for something more intrinsic and simple, and finally I found another script on a forum that just use few lines of JavaScript codes: 1. • Can't reinstall apache2

  I recently was messing around with my apache config and wanted to reinstall so I could start from fresh. I followed some forum posts about resintalling apache2 and this ended up deleting my /etc/apache2 apache2 folder. Now matter how many thing I try I can't seem to do a full wipe of the apache install and then reinstall. sudo apt-get install apache2 or reinstall doesn't do anything. I can't seem to remove from synaptic either. Is there anything I can do to have a fresh apache install on my computer again? UPDATE: I now have files back but I can't start/restart apache. I get the error: ".: 49: Can't open /etc/apache2/envvars". Does anyone have a default set of apache settings or something similar that I could nick? Or is there something else I can do.

• Junior software developer - How to understand web applications in depth?

  I am currently a junior developer in web applications and specifically in ASP.NET MVC technology. My problem is that the C# senior developer in the company has no experience with this technology and I try to learn without any guidance. I went through all tutorials (e.g music store), codeplex projects and also read Pro ASP.NET MVC 4. However, most of the examples are about CRUD and e-commerce applications. What I don't understand is how dependency injection fits in web applications (I have realized that is not only used for facilitating unit testing) or when I should use a custom model binder or how to model the business logic when there is already a database schema in place. I read the forum quite often and it would very helpful if some experienced developer could give me an insight about how to proceed. Do I need to read some books to understand the overall idea behind web applications? And what kind of application should I start building myself - I don't think it would be useful to create similar examples with the tutorials.

• Security issue about making my code public in GitHub

  I'm developing a big community/forum website and I'd like to upload my code to GitHub to have at least some sort of version control over it (because I have nothing other than a .rar file as a backup, not even SVN), to let others contribute to the project, and also perhaps using it to let my potential future employers see some of my code as some sort of curriculum. But what I'm wondering now, and I'm suprised I haven't seen anyone mention it before is the security aspect of it. Isn't publishing the code of a website a HUGE security hole? Is like giving a potential hacker or anyone who would like to find any potential exploit possible, even considering that the critical files aren't uploaded (database passwords, authentication scripts, etc.). Of course that there are millions of projects uploaded to GitHub and no one will find mine just 'by chance'. But if they look for it, it would indeed be there. Bottomline: my problem is not about copyright or licenses, but others finding exploits in my website. I'm I missing something here?

• Dude, where is my list instance?

• Over a million COBOL programmers in the world?

  I think I heard on a previous StackOverflow podcast that COBOL was used as the programming language for traffic lights (or something like that), so this got me interested. I did a quick Google search and found this little article: Today, Cobol is everywhere, yet largely unheard of by millions of people who interact with it daily when using the ATM, stopping at traffic lights or buying a product online. The statistics on Cobol attest to its huge influence on the business world: There are over 220 billion lines of Cobol in existence, a figure which equates to about 80 per cent of the world’s actively used code. There over a million Cobol programmers in the world. There are 200 times as many Cobol transactions that take place each day than Google searches. I didn't really trust the source seeing as how it's on some random PHPBB forum. So how accurate are these figures? Are there really 220 billion lines of COBOL? I assume a few people/companies still use COBOL, but how many?

• What technologies are used for Game development now days?

  Whenever I ask a question about game development in an online forum I always get suggestions like learning line drawing algorithms, bit level image manipulation and video decompression etc. However looking at games like God of War 3, I find it hard to believe that these games could be developed using such low level techniques. The sheer awesomeness of such games defy any comprehensible(for me) programming methodology. Besides the gaming hardware is really a monster now days. So it stands to reason that the developers would work at a higher level of abstraction. What is the latest development methodology in the gaming industry? How is it that a team of 30-35 developers (of which most is management and marketing fluff) able to make such mind boggling games? If the question seems too general could you explain the architecture of God of War 3? Or how you would go about producing a clone? That I think should be objectively answerable.

• GParted doesn't see any partition

  What I am trying to do couldn't be more logical I think. I have a 40gb drive with two partitions, Xp and Ubuntu. I have dual boot, everything boots and works perfectly. I have about 9gb free in the Windows partition When I run Gparted I only see 40gb unallocated space, booting from Gparted Live CD. What the hell is going on ? I've read everywhere this is a common problem, however it has no sense something like this remains unsolved by gparted developers, considering what I am trying to do is the very basic step anybody wanting to migrate from Windows to Linux would od Something like this honestly doesn't give anything else than frustration Could anybody on this forum be so kind to explain whats' going on ? • OpenGL 2D Depth Perception

  This is the first time i have ever commented on a forum about programming, so sorry if I'm not specific enough. Here's my problem: I have a 2D RPG game written in Java using LWJGL. All works fine, but at the moment I'm having trouble deciding what the best way to do depth perception is. So , for example, if the player goes in front of the tree/enemy (lower than the objects y-coordinate) then show the player in front), if the player goes behind the tree/enemy (higher than the objects specific y-coordinate), then show the player behind the object. I have tried writing a block of code to deal with this, and it works quite well for the trees, but not for the enemies yet. Is there a simpler way of doing this in LWJGL that I'm missing? Thanks :)

• No signal to monitor after driver install

  After installing 10.10 I used Hardware Drivers (Jockey) to install the graphics driver v11.2 for my ATI HD 5770. After restarting to activate the driver all went well and the boot screen showed up but not like the normal one the text was rough on the edges and after the boot finished the screen turned black and no signal. I have found some forum discussions about that issue but no fix worked for me. I use a DVI to VGA adapter and I have a View Sonic E70F CRT monitor. PC specs CPU: Intel Q8300 2.5/4 GPU: ATI Powercolor HD5770 1GB MB: Gigabyte EP43-UD3L RAM: 4GB 1066 Kingston

• What Web Technology to use?

  Hey guys, I would like to start a project and I am concerning what kind of programming language/web framework to use. There is not that much logic involved. It's about a community-page with a lot of users(not that much at the beginning but I would like to be ready to welcome a lot), that should be able to communicate through private messages and a forum and there will be a lot of content (news, articles) to consume. I also want to provide several authorization settings to provide some content for only specific people. In fact it's about a content management system, but I want to design it functionally myself. And I want to use some external APIs. The only website I can think of with almost similar functionality is pokerstrategy.com. I looked up their job offers and it seems like they use java and php Maybe you guys can give me your thoughts. What would you use to encounter that requirements and how would you apprach? Thank you

• Dual Monitor results in 'greyed' windows

  This occurs in Maverick and Natty. Single screen is fine, mirror of single screen is fine. If the mirror box is unchecked and the second monitor is turned on to extend the desktop then all windows are greyed out (like they do when a process has timed out and is unresponsive) and pop up menus are greyed out but icons, panels and background are fine and the windows do operate (just can't see them well enough to use) I have a D620 with intel graphics. This machine did work with dual monitors at some time in the past, however I have been using another machine, a D630 with nvidia and it works fine. Yes, there have been any number of updates. I also upgraded from Maverick to Natty to see if it would go away. No joy. Also, the D620 has a dual boot windows system and the windows xp system works fine with daul monitors There is a forum thread that goes into more detail and there are a number of users experiencing this problem. • Game Engine with a real time renderer

  I am studying computer graphics since 3 semester and we just started with opengl. I really enjoy it and want to create my own little engine for learning purpose. I already read tons of different forum posts and saw the following engines. Panda3d, Ogre3d, NeoAxis, Irrlicht and Horde3d(graphics only). Now I don't want to use something like unity or cryengine because I want to start more lowlevel. Which of those engines is suited for realtime rendering? Something that cryengine offers - no baked lightmaps. Or at least gives me the option to add a realtime renderer?

• Kernel Panic: Not booting after upgrade from 10.04 to 12.04

  I upgraded from 10.04 to 12.04LTS. Upgrade went fine, even restarted couple of times. Then the next day while booting into Ubuntu, after the grub, it gave the error Kernel panic : not syncing vfs unable to mount root fs on unknown block (0,0). I then booted into live CD and tried the following commands, based on other posts on this forum: sudo fdisk -l As the 8 was on /dev/sda1, sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt sudo mount --bind /dev /mnt/dev Now I got the message: mount: mount point /mnt/dev does not exist Then tried sudo mount --bind /proc /mnt/proc Again got the message: mount point point /mnt/proc does not exist. then tried sudo chroot /mnt Got message: chroot: failed to run comman '/bin/bash': No such file or directory Now have no clue what to do next. Unable to boot into Ubuntu. Please help. Jitesh

• Not Working Nvidia GT 635M drivers

  I'm having problems trying to use my Nvidia 635M in my asus N46VJ laptop. I open the "Nvidia X server settings" I get this message : "You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run nvidia-xconfig as root), and restart the X server." I open the terminal typi "sudo nvidia-xconf" and this creates a file, /etc/X11/xorg.conf After reboot I'm in a lower resolution of 640x480, without other options to change it, then open the Details system and it shows me this in the Graphic item: Intel® Ivybridge Mobile I type this in the terminal (no idea what that means, I just saw it in a forum!!!) lspci -vnn | grep '\''[030[02]]' and get this: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller [8086:0166] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation GF108M [GeForce GT 635M] [10de:0de3] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) I installed bumblebee but nothings happens additionally the additional drivers shows me "no propietary Drivers are in use on this system"

• Programmers and tech email: Do you actually read all of them?

  Email Alerts, Blog /Forum updates, discussion subscriptions general programming/technology update emails that we often subscribe to.Do you actually read them ? or go direct to the source when you find time. often we might the mail of programmers filled with loads of unread subscription mail from technology they previously were following or worked on or things they wish to follow .some or a majority of these mail just keep on piling up . i personally have few updates that i wish i read but constantly avoid and keep of for latter and finally delete them in effort keep the in box clean. few questions come to mind regarding this Do you keep such mail in separate accounts? Do you read all the mail you have subscribed to? Do you ever unsubscribe to any such email if you aren't reading them? How much do you really value these email. Lastly do you keep your in box clean ? wish to deal with this in a better way.

• Running a .bash file in Eclipse

  I know this is really an Eclipse issue but I can't seem to login in their forum. I am running eclipse juno for some c/c++ development.However, I wrote a .bash script that initiate the entire program.As input argument to this script, I have a a configuration file which is one directory lower than the .bash file. In terminal I just do: ./startenb.bash ./CONF/ANNE it runs just fine. How can I configure the external tools in eclipse to take this file path as input argument? Any help or old thread vaguely addressing this issue is highly welcome.
