  • Strict security and virtual host isolation with Nginx?

    - by Hach-Que
I currently have an Apache web server set up under which each virtual host is isolated using HTTPD-ITK and the AppArmor module. Each virtual host's workers are setuid/setgid by the server and are then placed in an AppArmor profile. I'm looking to use Nginx but I can't find any documentation on setting it up so that rather than the worker processes being shared between all virtual hosts, worker processes are per virtual host (and thus can be setuid / setgid). Is there any way to do this under Nginx?

  • What is the correct way to setup my virtual hosts in Apache to serve 2 differnt domains?

    - by Michael
I have a current website on an Apache server (foo.com) and I want the same server to serve a new site (bar.com), is this the correct way to setup my virtual hosts? <VirtualHost *:80 ServerName foo.com ServerAlias www.foo.com Include conf.d/foo.conf </VirtualHost <VirtualHost *:80 ServerName bar.com ServerAlias www.bar.com Include conf.d/bar.conf </VirtualHost I'm hesitant to do an /etc/init.d/httpd reload without someone double checking! :)

Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn't understand how to supply the credentials required. Apache/2.2.15 (Red Hat) Server at 127.0.0.1 Port 80 I changed the password : htpasswd -c /etc/nagios/htpasswd.users nagiosadmin And restart the server : service httpd restart But without result !

  • Why doesn't Apache start from xampp control panel after changes to vhosts config?

    - by Grafica
I'm running xampp on my local server, and want to host multiple sites, so I changed the httpd-vhosts.conf file. Will somebody let me know if there is something wrong with my code? Apache was running while I had only one site in the config, but after I added another site, I stopped apache, and I'm not able to restart it. # # Virtual Hosts # # If you want to maintain multiple domains/hostnames on your # machine you can setup VirtualHost containers for them. Most configurations # use only name-based virtual hosts so the server doesn't need to worry about # IP addresses. This is indicated by the asterisks in the directives below. # # Please see the documentation at # <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/vhosts/> # for further details before you try to setup virtual hosts. # # You may use the command line option '-S' to verify your virtual host # configuration. # # Use name-based virtual hosting. # ##NameVirtualHost *:80 # # VirtualHost example: # Almost any Apache directive may go into a VirtualHost container. # The first VirtualHost section is used for all requests that do not # match a ServerName or ServerAlias in any <VirtualHost> block. # ##<VirtualHost *:80> ##ServerAdmin [email protected] ##DocumentRoot "C:/xampp/htdocs/dummy-host.localhost" ##ServerName dummy-host.localhost ##ServerAlias www.dummy-host.localhost ##ErrorLog "logs/dummy-host.localhost-error.log" ##CustomLog "logs/dummy-host.localhost-access.log" combined ##</VirtualHost> ##<VirtualHost *:80> ##ServerAdmin [email protected] ##DocumentRoot "C:/xampp/htdocs/dummy-host2.localhost" ##ServerName dummy-host2.localhost ##ServerAlias www.dummy-host2.localhost ##ErrorLog "logs/dummy-host2.localhost-error.log" ##CustomLog "logs/dummy-host2.localhost-access.log" combined ##</VirtualHost> NameVirtualHost * <VirtualHost *> DocumentRoot "C:\xampp\htdocs" ServerName localhost </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *> DocumentRoot "C:\xampp\htdocs" ServerName evamagnus.com <Directory "C:\xampp\htdocs\"> Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *> DocumentRoot "C:\xampp\htdocs2\" ServerName mygrafica.com <Directory "C:\xampp\htdocs2\"> Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> Here is what it says in the control panel: 2:17:37 PM [apache] Starting apache service... 2:17:38 PM [apache] Status change detected: running 2:17:39 PM [apache] Status change detected: stopped Thanks in advance.

  • after installing monit when i do monit status myproc i get "error connecting to the monit daemon"

    - by Jason
after installing monit when i do monit status myproc i get "error connecting to the monit daemon" I read somewhere that The status command won't work in the case that monit is running indaemon mode without its http support - the command 'monit status' in such case tries to get the status from the daemon via http/tcp. To start the http interface you need to add the 'set httpd ...' statement to theconfiguration. is that still correct? that post was from 2005

  • Disable .htaccess from apache allowoverride none, still reads .htaccess files

    - by John Magnolia
I have moved all of our .htaccess config into <Directory> blocks and set AllowOverride None in the default and default-ssl. When you need a different shutdown # approach you can use one of the following variables: # o ssl-unclean-shutdown: # This forces an unclean shutdown when the connection is closed, i.e. no # SSL close notify alert is send or allowed to received. This violates # the SSL/TLS standard but is needed for some brain-dead browsers. Use # this when you receive I/O errors because of the standard approach where # mod_ssl sends the close notify alert. # o ssl-accurate-shutdown: # This forces an accurate shutdown when the connection is closed, i.e. a # SSL close notify alert is send and mod_ssl waits for the close notify # alert of the client. This is 100% SSL/TLS standard compliant, but in # practice often causes hanging connections with brain-dead browsers. Use # this only for browsers where you know that their SSL implementation # works correctly. # Notice: Most problems of broken clients are also related to the HTTP # keep-alive facility, so you usually additionally want to disable # keep-alive for those clients, too. Use variable "nokeepalive" for this. # Similarly, one has to force some clients to use HTTP/1.0 to workaround # their broken HTTP/1.1 implementation. Use variables "downgrade-1.0" and # "force-response-1.0" for this. Directives that define the parameters of the 'main' or 'default' server, # which responds to requests that aren't handled by a virtual host. # These directives also provide default values for the settings # of all virtual hosts. # 3. Settings for virtual hosts, which allow Web requests to be sent to # different IP addresses or hostnames and have them handled by the # same Apache server process. # # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the # server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "foo.log" # with ServerRoot set to "/etc/apache2" will be interpreted by the # server as "/etc/apache2/foo.log". # ### Section 1: Global Environment # # The directives in this section affect the overall operation of Apache, # such as the number of concurrent requests it can handle or where it # can find its configuration files. # # # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's # configuration, error, and log files are kept. # # NOTE! • The Alias directive ... will probably never match because it overlaps an earlier Alias.

    - by mmattax
I'm getting this warning from Apache: The Alias directive in /etc/httpd/conf.d/foo.conf at line 10 will probably never match because it overlaps an earlier Alias. However the Alias overlaps on a completely different virtual host. Might this be caused because one alias is on a name-based virtual host while the other alias is on an IP-based virtual host? Everything is working fine, just the warning is a bit annoying...

  • Mac OS X web server memory depletion issues

    - by Ali
I have a Mac mini ram 4GB setup as a web server which has low traffic - it is running single WordPress instance and a forum. Why is available memory dropping to ~20MB after a while, bringing the whole server down? I see httpd processes climbing more and more, and the only thing I can do is to restart the server and everything will work fine again. Anybody with the same issues to share their thought about this?

  • Qmail Toaster and Squirrelmail SSL config location.

    - by BlaineM
I've been racking my brain and Google to try and find where the location of the SSL config is located for my Qmail / Squirrelmail install. I've installed SSL certs for Apache before, where I specify inside of the proper virtualhost section where the SSL cert is located, but am unable to find it for the services above. Inside of the httpd.conf, there are two include file additions which are for Qmail Toaster and Squirrelmail, but when I edit the files, they don't specify locations for the SSL cert they're using. thanks for the help!

  • Setting up Apache and PHP on Mac OS X Snow Leopard

    - by Martin Bean
I've recently purchased an Apple iMac. Unfortunately, enabling Apache and PHP has thrown up some problems. I enabled Mac's built-in Web Sharing through System Preferences, at which point I got an output and could add HTML files to my user directory. However, PHP files were being displayed rather than interpreted. I then discovered this is because PHP isn't enabled by default on Mac's Apache set-up. After a quick Google search, I came across this page: http://developer.apple.com/mac/articles/internet/phpeasyway.html I proceeded to the section, Enabling PHP in Apache, copying and pasting the following code snippet into a new Terminal window and hitting Return: set admin_email to (do shell script "defaults read AddressBookMe ExistingEmailAddress") user_www=$HOME/Sites filename=php-test user_index=${user_www}/${filename}.php user_db=${user_www}/${filename}-db.sqlite3 # NOTE: Having a writeable database in your home directory can be a security risk! conf=`apachectl -V | awk -F= '/SERVER_CONFIG/ {print \$2}'| sed 's/"//g'` conf_old=$conf.$$ conf_new=/tmp/php_conf.new touch $user_db chmod a+r $user_index chmod a+w $user_db chmod a+w $user_www echo "Enabling PHP in $conf ..." sed '/#LoadModule php5_module/s/#LoadModule/LoadModule/' $conf | sed "s^[email protected]^<b>\$admin_email</b>^" > $conf_new echo "(Re)Starting Apache ..." osascript <<EOF do shell script "/bin/mv -f $conf $conf_old; /bin/mv $conf_new $conf; /usr/sbin/apachectl restart" with administrator privileges EOF Unfortunately, this has completed thrown Apache and now nothing is being served; instead I'm receiving "Failed to open page" errors because it cannot connect to the server, despite Web Sharing still being active in System Preferences. So therefore I guess my question is this: how can I undo the changes made by the copy-and-pasting of the above code snippet? Admittedly, I don't understand what the above did; I just thought it looked like a Terminal command and tried it. I have no experience in setting up Apache on Mac OS X (and I've only installed XAMPP and WampServer on Windows). So any points on reversing the aforementioned, and then successfully enabling PHP would be great. EDIT: I've discovered, via Console, the following error message is being recorded when trying to browse to 127.0.0.1... (org.apache.httpd) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds no listening sockets available, shutting down Unable to open logs (org.apache.httpd[13453]) Exited with exit code: 1 Does this point any more to the issue? Will need to run several websites since I generally work on more then one site at a time. Heres what I have done so far. I set up subversion and apache 2.2 using some walk troughs. I changed the default port to 1337. (im a nerd) Using dyndns.com I created a domain to forward to my home ip which is dynamic. ( company.gotdns.org) I then went into my DNS for my company.com and added a record to point repo.company.com to company.gotdns.org At this point people who need access to my file repository can access by going to repo.company.com/repo which is good so far. My question comes on the next step, setting up virtual hosts with apache. Ideally I would like to have my local website be viewable by some others in the company from their homes. So, say I am working on site1, I would like to have them be able to view this by going site1.roeland.bythepixel.com. At the same time, I would like to have site10.wouter.bythepixel.com go to his local setup for site10. What I have done for this: I went into my DNS for company.com and added a record to point roeland.company.com to company.gotdns.org (which translates to my ip). I added code to my httpd-vhosts.conf (listed at bottom) I added code to my host file (listed at bottom) Hah, so of course this doenst work as excepted.. going to site1.roeland.bythepixel.com doesnt bring up my test1 site. Could anyone point me where I may be going wrong? Thanks! hosts: 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.0.1 sensenich.roeland.bythepixel.com ::1 localhost httpd-vhosts.conf: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin [email protected] DocumentRoot "F:/Current Projects/sensenich.com" ServerName sensenich.roeland.bythepixel.com ErrorLog "logs/sensenich.roeland.bythepixel.com-error.log" CustomLog "logs/sensenich.roeland.bythepixel.com-access.log" common </VirtualHost>

  • Finding latest successful logins and failed attempts to a CentOS server

    - by ahmad
I'm looking for a log file or any service to report the latest login attempts which have failed due to username/password miss match. Is there such utility available for CentOS? (built-in is preferred) My second question, and more generally, I need a log file of penetration attempts to my server. Ideally, this log should contain all attempts including logins, httpd activities, and other conventional open ports.

  • Apache SSL configuration testing

    - by jldugger
When I run configtest on our Apache server, I get the following: `Syntax error on line 1023 of /www/conf/httpd.conf: Invalid command 'SSLEnable', perhaps mis-spelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration` I know this part of the configuration works. Is there a trick to make configtest mod_ssl aware?

  • removing the .local in local network name serving

    - by Paul Nathan
I have several local machines; I use a OSX 10.6 machine to do most of the serving. Annoyingly, it postfixes its network name with .local. How would I set up a system so that I could access it by its hostname? server: httpd apache2 default install I am accessing it with a web browser(surprisingly). also when I ping my osx machine as name, it doesn't work; ping name.local does work.

  • 403 Forbidden Error when trying to view localhost on Apache

    - by misbehavens
I think my Apache must be all screwed up. I don't know if it ever worked. I just upgraded to Snow Leopard, and the first step on this tutorial is to start apache and check that it's working by opening http://localhost. It starts fine but when I go to localhost I get a 403 forbidden error. I don't know where to start figuring out how to fix it, so I wonder if a fresh install of Apache would do the trick. What do you think? Update: I found some error logs in /private/var/log/apache2/. Found this in one of the logs. Not sure what it means: [Tue Nov 10 17:53:08 2009] [notice] caught SIGTERM, shutting down [Tue Nov 10 21:49:17 2009] [warn] Init: Session Cache is not configured [hint: SSLSessionCache] Warning: DocumentRoot [/usr/docs/dummy-host.example.com] does not exist Warning: DocumentRoot [/usr/docs/dummy-host2.example.com] does not exist httpd: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using Andrews-Mac-Pro.local for ServerName mod_bonjour: Skipping user 'andrew' - cannot read index file '/Users/andrew/Sites/index.html'. [Tue Nov 10 21:49:19 2009] [notice] Digest: generating secret for digest authentication ... [Tue Nov 10 21:49:19 2009] [notice] Digest: done [Tue Nov 10 21:49:19 2009] [notice] Apache/2.2.11 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.11 OpenSSL/0.9.8k DAV/2 PHP/5.3.0 configured -- resuming normal operations Update: I also found something in the dummy-host.example.com-error_log file. I didn't set these dummy-host things by the way. Is this the default configuration? [Tue Nov 10 21:59:57 2009] [error] [client ::1] client denied by server configuration: /usr/docs Update: Woohoo! I found the file that had the virtual host definitions. It was in /etc/apache2/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf. It had those two dummy virtual host settings in there. I added a localhost virtual host. Not sure if this is necessary, but since it wasn't working before, decided to do it anyway. After removing the old virtual hosts, adding my new localhost virtual host, and restarting apache, it seems to work. So I guess whenever I want to add a virtual host, I only need to add them to this file? Or is there a hosts file somewhere, like there is on Linux? Update: Yes, there is an /etc/hosts file that need to be changed to. Add the virtual host name to that file.

  • Multiple SSL Certificates Running on Mac OS X 10.6

    - by frodosghost.mp
I have been running into walls with this for a while, so I posted at stackoverflow, and I was pointed over here... I am attempting to setup multiple IP addresses on Snow Leopard so that I can develop with SSL certificates. I am running XAMPP - I don't know if that is the problem, but I guess I would run into the same problems, considering the built in apache is turned off. So first up I looked into starting up the IPs on start up. I got up an running with a new StartupItem that runs correctly, because I can ping the ip address: ping 127.0.0.2 ping 127.0.0.1 And both of them work. So now I have IP addresses, which as you may know are not standard on OSx. I edited the /etc/hosts file to include the new sites too: 127.0.0.1 site1.local 127.0.0.2 site2.local I had already changed the httpd.conf to use the httpd-vhosts.conf - because I had a few sites running on the one IP address. I have edited the vhosts file so a site looks like this: <VirtualHost 127.0.0.1:80> DocumentRoot "/Users/jim/Documents/Projects/site1/web" ServerName site1.local <Directory "/Users/jim/Documents/Projects/site1"> Order deny, allow Deny from All Allow from 127.0.0.1 AllowOverride All </Directory> </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost 127.0.0.1:443> DocumentRoot "/Users/jim/Documents/Projects/site1/web" ServerName site1.local SSLEngine On SSLCertificateFile "/Applications/XAMPP/etc/ssl-certs/myssl.crt" SSLCertificateKeyFile "/Applications/XAMPP/etc/ssl-certs/myssl.key" SetEnvIf User-Agent ".*MSIE.*" nokeepalive ssl-unclean-shutdown <Directory "/Users/jim/Documents/Projects/site1"> Order deny, allow Deny from All Allow from 127.0.0.1 AllowOverride All </Directory> </VirtualHost> In the above code, you can change the 1's to 2's and it is the setup for the second site. They do use the same certificate, which is why they are on different IP addresses. I also included the NameVirtualHost information at the top of the file: NameVirtualHost 127.0.0.1:80 NameVirtualHost 127.0.0.2:80 NameVirtualHost 127.0.0.1:443 NameVirtualHost 127.0.0.2:443 I can ping site1.local and site2.local. I can use telnet ( telnet site2.local 80 ) to get into both sites. But in Safari I can only get to the first site1.local - navigating to site2.local gives me either the localhost main page (which is included in the vhosts) or gives me a Access forbidden!. I am usure what to do, any suggestions would be awesome.

  • Just LB or also Web Servers in Demilitarized Zone?

    - by Bradford
In a load balanced environment, is it necessary to have all of the web servers in the DMZ? Or will just having the Load Balancer in the DMZ achieve the desired security? If it matters, the web server and application server are the same -- GF, Tomcat fronted by httpd on the same server, OAS, etc... LB - WEB/APPLICATION - DB Also, would the setup be different if it was LB - Web Server - Application Server - DB Thanks, Bradford

  • Why did my DocumentRoot change?

    - by Josh K
My document root (suddenly and unexpectedly) changed to /htdocs from /var/www. This happened after I restarted apache2. The only thing I changed was the httpd.conf file which now reads as follows: <VirtualHost *> ServerName hostname UseCanonicalName ON </VirtualHost> I've greped through the entire /etc directory looking for DocumentRoot and they all say /var/www.

  • Apache server immediately shuts down

    - by winarm
I just installed MySql 5.1.49, Apache 2.2.16 and PHP 5.3.3 on my Vista Home Basic. I followed the instructions in the "Sam's Teach Yourself", adding: LoadModule php5_module C:/php/php5apache2_2.dll PHPIniDir "C:/php/" and AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .html I changed the Listening port to 8080 and the domain is localhost. When I start the server it pops open the window for less than a second and then closes. What am I missing? Thanks.
