  • Include page url in php error_log

    I'm working on sorting out all my php errors. I've just setup so that all errors go into one log so I can view them. The problem is that I can't really see what page someone trying to access that gave them an error. Of course I can see the file where the error was generated, but these are often includes used on other pages - so I can't really see what URL a person was attempting to view when this error was displayed, so I can't really replicate the problem. Any suggestions? Is it possible to include the actual page URL?

  • Compare Error logs across service fleet, find unique errors

    I'm looking for a tool where I can list the servers to check, the location of the file and it would return a list of the most common errors across those servers (say like 2 or 3 servers for report brevity) and get a report something like this Server.A Server.B Server.C -------- -------- -------- 42 error.X 39 error.X 61 error.X 21 error.Y 7 error.Y 5 error.A 17 error.B 6 error.A 4 error.Y 4 error.A 2 error.R 3 error.S 3 error.R 1 error.S 1 error.R Of course, excluding timestamps and other error details and just grepping out the common sub-strings and listing them like so. I'd be able to look at the table and see that error.B is unique to Server.A and conclude that there is something up with Server.A. Does something like this already exist? Is this something I'll have to code myself? I'm not necessarily looking for this specific report, just the functionality to find unique errors across a set of error logs.

  • Apache with multiple domains, single IP, VirtualHost is catching the wrong traffic

    I have a SOAP web service I am providing on a apache web server. There are 6 different clients (IPs) that request data and 3 of them are hitting the wrong domain. I am trying to find a way to log which domain name the requests are coming from. Details: ServerA is the primary ServerB is the backup domain1.com - the domain the web service is on domain2.com - a seperate domain that server seperate content on ServerB ServerA is standalone for now with its own IP and DNS from domain1.com. This works for everyone. ServerB is a backup for the web service, but it already hosts domain2.com. I added entries into the apache configuration file like: <VirtualHost *:443> ServerName domain2.com DocumentRoot /var/www/html/ CustomLog logs/access_log_domain2443 common ErrorLog logs/ssl_error_log_domain2443 LogLevel debug SSLEngine on ... etc SSL directives ... </VirtualHost> I have these for both 80 and 443 for domain1 and domain2 with domain1 being second. The problem is when we switch DNS for domain1 from ServerA to ServerB, 3 out of the 6 clients show up in the debug logs as hitting domain2.com instead of domain1.com and fail their web service request because domain2.com is first in the apache configuration file and catching all requests that don't match other virtualhosts, namely domain1.com. I don't know if they are hitting www.domain1.com, domain1.com (although I added entries for both) or using the external IP address or something else. Is there a way to see which URL they are hitting not just the page request or someother way to see why the first domain is catching traffic meant for the second listed domain? In the meantime, I've put domain1.com higher in the apache configuration than domain2.com. Now it catches the requests for all clients and works, however I don't know what it is catching and would like to make domain2.com the first entry again with a correct entry for domain1.com, for however they are hitting it.     When in a site apache conf file, is there a way to set the user and group for the CustomLog and ErrorLog? Right now, these 2 records create the error and access log with root:root permissions, but I would like them to be flewis:admin CustomLog /var/log/httpd/domain.com-access.log combined ErrorLog /var/log/httpd/domain.com-error.log If I change the user:group of the files, when the logs rotate, the new logs are root:root

  • CPU/RAM usage log over a period of time to file on CentOS

    Hi everyone Im looking for an app pr line of code that could let me observe a process, save the info in a number of variable and then put the gathered info on a file. Ive been trying with variations of top but no luck. I am running several CentOS virtual servers, VM is 2gb ram 2 processor. Maybe a script that works over a specified amount of time while writing lines with the info on a text file so at the end i can have a sort of table with the data. The thing is Im going to stress test the server and I would like to have the data to make some statistics. Any comments and suggestions are most welcome.

  • SQL Server on VMWare - is transaction log corruption possible?

    Scenario: SQL Server 2005 or 2008, Windows 2008 OS. Running in a VM hosted on VMWare ESX server. Is there any known issue with VMWare when it caches pass-through write request and it never reaches the disk, while SQL Server "thinks" that write actually happened? This may lead to transaction log corruption in case of power failure or VM reboot. Just overheard the conversation but couldn't find it in relation to ESX.

    We have a RoR app (rails version 3.2.15 right now). As it has been getting busier, the log-files it's producing are becoming less and less useful for troubleshooting.   • Documenting software-updates semi-automatically in MacOS X by parsing log files?

    I'd like to document changes I made to my computer (running MacOS 10.6.8) to be able to identify the sources of eventual problems. Mostly I install updates when a software notifies me about a newer version and offers me a dialog to download and install the update. Currently I'm documenting those updates "by hand" by noting in a text file, when I have e. g. installed a Flash-Player update or updated another 3rd party software ... I wonder if I could achieve that easier and semi-automatically by parsing system logfiles for certain texts like "install" and that way directly get the relevant information: what has been installed (Software and version) when has been installed where has it been installed/what has changed Is there a way to extract such information by a script from the existing logfiles?

  • Why does my router log crazy amounts of blocked traffic on port 1701?

    I have a 2701HGV-B 2Wire modem and router (AT&T). The log is basically full with entries similar to the following with a time between a fifth and a third of a second between entries: src=86.156.7.170 dst=xxx.xxx.xxx.38 ipprot=17 sport=6882 dport=1701 Unknown inbound session stopped src=58.176.22.252 dst=xxx.xxx.xxx.38 ipprot=17 sport=21573 dport=1701 Unknown inbound session stopped src=91.221.6.250 dst=xxx.xxx.xxx.38 ipprot=17 sport=25902 dport=1701 Unknown inbound session stopped ... where the source IP will be different for every entry. The entries accumulate constantly, every single second that the router is on several of them appear in the log. The destination is the WAN address for my router. I understand that this is somehow related to VNCs, but I don't know enough to figure out why my router is getting bombarded with requests for a VNC session. Is there anything fishy going on or is this normal? If it is normal, how do I keep these entries from spamming my log files? Since there's about two or three of them every second, everything else gets drowned out.

  • Galaxy Tab 3 producing continuous LightSensor error in LogCat

    I am using a Galaxy Tab 3 as a test device for writing an android app. As such I'm interested in the output of the LogCat which is being filled with these error level messages. The device itself appears to work correctly, apps which rely on the light sensor correctly respond to it and the number in the error itself goes down if the light sensor is obscured. If I wasn't using it to develop apps I wouldn't even be aware of the issue but I believe it is an issue with the device itself not my app: simply plugging the tab 3 into the computer and using Eclipse - ADT to look at the LogCat without any app running leads to these errors being shown. I know I could filter the LogCat to ignore these errors but inconvenience aside; they concern me. A sample of the log cat is below (it generates errors continuously). This is on verbose so it includes some debug level (D/) messages as well as the error level messages (E/).   • How to automatically copy a file uploaded by a user by FTP in Linux (CentOS)?

    Outside contractor says they need read/write/execute permissions on part of the filesystem so they can run a script. I'm ok with that, but I want to know what they're running, in case it turns out there is some nefarious code. I assume they are going to upload the file, run it, and then delete it to prevent me from finding out what they've done. How can I find out exactly what they've done? My question specifically asks for a way of automatically copying the file, which would be one way. But if you have another solution, that's fine. For example, if the file could be automatically copied to /home/root/uploaded_files/ that would be awesome.

  • tomcat processParameters complains about "invalid chunk ignored"

    I am hosting a software system running under tomcat for quite a number of customers. Some of these send invalid URLs as request. These URLs may contain "&=" or "&&", which is not within the http specs. Now my tomcat complains about the following: "08.09.2010 12:36:04 org.apache.tomcat.util.http.Parameters processParameters WARNING: Parameters: Invalid chunk '' ignored." It is no problem, as is doesn't affect the operation in any way. Only problem ist that the tomcat/logs/catalina.out is growing with every single request. In the net you can find suggestions like: - Fix your URLs (which I can't, as it is the customers who send them) - Raise tomcats log level to ERROR (which I don't want to do, as it would suppress INFO like "INFO: Reloading context [/ContextName]" and other stuff you want to know. - Redirect the log to the application log (which won't solve the problem, as the message will flood just another log) Does anyone know how to solve the problem at its ROOT, which means: Tell tomcat not to complain about invalid request parameters any longer

  • How can I log the response header and body in apache?

    I need to determine whether the server (Apache 2) is returning the full contents of a page along with its correct header or not. I have a PHP-script that is executed successfully, but the browser is getting only half of the html content, it's simply cut off. The client infrastructure is pretty complicated, using Novell BorderManager Proxys and stuff. To ensure the server is doing its job fine I want to log both header and body of the reponse. How can I achieve this? I looked into the mod_log_config module of apache (which is already installed and ready to be used), but honestly I didn't quite manage to configure it to output header and body somewhere. edit: I managed to log the header with LogFormat "%h %l %u %t \"%r\" %s %b \"%{HEADER_NAME}o\"" common2 CustomLog /var/log/apache2/response.log common2 But unfortunately the mod_log_config formats don't support the whole content body. Can anyone help?

I'm going to collect the obvious ones (system, security, event, firewall, and role specific logs) but are there any others I should be worried about? I'm using Splunk if that helps answer the question.

  • Windows log file monitor that supports custom events (eg. sending an email when it detects the string "ERROR")

    I know this question has been asked several times before but I can't seem to find a solution for my requirements. I currently use BareTail, which works wonderfully except that it doesn't support custom events besides line highlighting. I'm also trying TailForWin32. It has a SMTP plugin but it seems to be in beta status, and the highlighting seems limited. It also doesn't handle rolling log files very well (a blocking dialog box pops up, whereas BareTail just rolls over naturally). All I really need is something like BareTail that supports custom events. First prize would be a tool with a plugin-based architecture so I can use my own messaging plugins, but anything that supports SMTP mail would be fine as well.

    I am looking for a smtp proxy to install on our gateway which should monitor outgoing smtp traffic to identify the source of recently occuring spam attacks from our network. It would be enough if this could log all outgoing mails, no actual filtering must be done as I'm going to do this manually. Also, is it possible to monitor smtps ports 465 and 587 or is it necessary to completely block these ports to stop spam?

    I looking for the best solution to log all connecting client's ip to either a text file or a database who logs into my VPN server. Under the IP I mean the public WAN IP on the internet where they are connecting from. A hack could definitely be to make the openvpn server log to a separate logfile and run logtail periodically to extract the necessary information. So the database I want to build would look like: Client_Name | Client_IP | Connection_date roadwarr1 | 72.84.99.11 | 03/04/14 - 22:44:00 Sat Please don't recommend me to use the commercial Openvpn Access Server. That's not a real solution here. If the disconnection date could be determined that would be even better so I could see how long a client was connected and from where! Thank you

  • Is there a proper way to clear logs?

    I was wondering if there was a proper way to clear logs in general? I'm new to Ubuntu and I'm trying to set up Postfix. The log in question is /var/log/mail.log. I was wondering if there was a correct way to clear it, rather than me going in it and deleting all the lines and saving it. I find that sometimes errors don't get written to it immediately after I clear the log and save it. Side note: I'm having trouble setting up Postfix and am trying to make it easier for me to read the logs hoping it can help me out, instead of having to scroll all the way down.

    We have several developers who maintain the system and I want them to easily read the log files in /var/log/httpd without needing root access. I set the read permission for 'other' users but when I run tail on the log files I get permission denied: [root@ourserver httpd]# chmod -R go+r /var/log/httpd [root@ourserver httpd]# ls -la drwxr--r-- 13 root root 4096 Oct 25 03:31 . drwxr-xr-x. 6 root root 4096 Oct 20 03:24 .. drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Oct 20 03:24 oursite.com drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Oct 20 03:24 oursite2.com -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 May 7 03:46 access_log -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3446 Oct 24 22:05 error_log [me@ourserver ~]$ tail -f /var/log/httpd/oursite.com/error.log tail: cannot open `/var/log/httpd/oursite/error.log' for reading: Permission denied Maybe I'm missing something on how permissions work but I'm not finding any easy answers on it.
