  • automated emails from php using google apps?

    I've got google apps setup, with the mx records working. Any emails to [email protected] now go to my google apps, great. Now i want to use google apps for sending automated emails (ie lost password, registration) How do i set it up so that php's mail() using googleapps? is this correct? also, is there anyway for test (sending myself multiple emails) without google thinking im spamming?

  • How can I monitor a Smart-UPS 2200 in PRTG?

    This UPS is connected via a serial cable to a server. I am trying to get the temperature readings off of the sensor that is connected to the UPS and get them in PRTG. We were able to do this in the past and then when we changed the server out, we lost the settings. Does anyone have any info that might help? Thanks!!

I deleted a production system database by mistake a while back, for example, but I was lucky (i.e. backed-up) and there was no permanent data loss, lost money, property damage etc. Most importantly (for votes), what do you do to make sure it will not ever happen again?

  • I am unable to connect to my netbook from any machine on my network until the netbook has pinged it

    I have a rather strange issue with my netbook on my local network. When trying to connect to it in any way from a remote system it does not appear to find it. However if I get the netbook to ping the machine trying to connect it mystically appears to work. Below is the ping test from my main PC to the netbook. I am trying to understand ideas behind tcp congestion control mechanisms, and I am failing to understand why we need triple duplicate acknowledgement to trigger window change. In my opinion, double duplicate acknowledgement will be enough to get that the previous package is lost. So why we need the third ack?

  • chrome loses cookies

    I'm using google chrome beta version, recently i found all my saved authentications get lost when closing the window and reopen. It is not saving any passwords or "stay signed in" or "remember me in this computer". This applies for gmail, facebook, yahoo, etc. the issue is only with chrome, while firefox and IE are still ok. Is it something i messed up, or is it just chrome?

  • Anyone else experiencing high rates of Linux server crashes during a leap second day?

    POSTMORTEM Anticlimax: only thing that died was my VPN (openvpn) link to the cluster, so there was an exciting few seconds while it re-established. Everything else was fine. Starting back ntp everywhere. If you look at Marco's blog at http://my.opera.com/marcomarongiu/blog/2012/06/01/an-humble-attempt-to-work-around-the-leap-second - he has a solution for phasing the time change over 24 hours using ntpd -x to avoid the 1 second skip. Give that a go if it matters to you. For the systems I run, the jump isn't a problem. Just today, Sat June 30th - starting soon after the start of the day GMT. We've had a handful of blades in different datacentres as managed by different teams all go dark - not responding to pings, screen blank. They're all running Debian Squeeze - with everything from stock kernel to custom 3.2.21 builds. Most are Dell M610 blades, but I've also just lost a Dell R510 and other departments have lost machines from other vendors too. There was also an older IBM x3550 which crashed and which I thought might be unrelated, but now I'm wondering. The one crash which I did get a screen dump from said: [3161000.864001] BUG: spinlock lockup on CPU#1, ntpd/3358 [3161000.864001] lock: ffff88083fc0d740, .magic: dead4ead, .owner: imapd/24737, .owner_cpu: 0 Unfortunately the blades all supposedly had kdump configured, but they died so hard that kdump didn't trigger - and they had console blanking turned on. I've disabled console blanking now, so fingers crossed I'll have more information after the next crash. Just want to know if it's a common thread or "just us". It's really odd that they're different units in different datacentres bought at different times and run by different admins (I run the FastMail.FM ones)... and now even different vendor hardware. Most of the machines which crashed had been up for weeks/months and were running 3.1 or 3.2 series kernels. The most recent crash was a machine which had only been up about 6 hours running 3.2.21. THE WORKAROUND Ok people, here's how I worked around it. disabled ntp: /etc/init.d/ntp stop created http://linux.brong.fastmail.fm/2012-06-30/fixtime.pl (code stolen from Marco, see blog posts in comments) ran fixtime.pl without an argument to see that there was a leap second set ran fixtime.pl with an argument to remove the leap second NOTE: depends on adjtimex. I've put a copy of the squeeze adjtimex binary at http://linux.brong.fastmail.fm/2012-06-30/adjtimex - it will run without dependencies on a squeeze 64 bit system. If you put it in the same directory as fixtime.pl, it will be used if the system one isn't present. Obviously if you don't have squeeze 64 bit... find your own. I'm going to start ntp again tomorrow. As an anonymous user suggested - an alternative to running adjtimex is to just set the time yourself, which will presumably also clear the leapsecond counter.

  • How to prevent windows from being resized?

    Adobe Audition is really stupid in that when you change the size of the window, and then change it back to the original size, all the frame positions are lost and you have to tediously reposition them by hand. I'd like to make it completely impossible to ever resize the window, just keep it maximized at all times. If I accidentally click "Restore" or drag the title bar, it should either ignore it, or move around the screen while staying the same size. Is there any way to do this?

  • My computer is not reading my PNY SD 1GB memory card

    I use a Kodak EasyShare C160 digital camera, a PNY SD 1GB memory card, and a Dell Latitude E5500 computer. I have had my camera for over a year and have always been able to transfer my pictures to my computer. Now my computer does not recognize my memory card and I get a message from the EasyShare software that says "Cannot get device information", although my computer does recognize the pictures stored on my camera's internal memory. Is there any way to access the pictures on my memory card, or are they lost forever?

I always check the Remember password checkbox in applications/login dialogs where ever prompted. I cannot imagine of a third party program that may clean up this on system restart/shutdown. Any idea, as to what is going wrong?

(i don't know it can be done) Ijust haven't use the uninstaller because I've lost my admin password - -" so how to delete those folders ?

  • Considerations for spanned volumes with SAN's LUN.

    I want to know, before going forward, what I can expected in lost of performance (or not) of creating Windows spanned volumes from LUN delivered by a SAN ? I don't know which kind of SAN is (we don't administer it), but they give us 10 300 Gb LUN to our Windows 2k8 R2 (Vmware) and we need larger volume so we think to spanned some disk but we are aware of the performance issue.     My Windows NT account name was changed, and when starting PuTTY it now appears that my saved session information has been lost. The FAQ suggests that PuTTY sessions should be stored in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SimonTatham\PuTTY. Wikipedia explains that HKCU maps to NTUSER.DAT and USRCLASS.DAT under the current user's Desktop and Settings folder. I still have these files for my old account name, but I'm guessing there is no easy way to extract data from these files?

    I found a few hundred of the following errors in my syslog following some configuration changes: warning: maildir access problem for UID/GID=5000/5000: create maildir file /home/vmail/domain/account1 /tmp/1273028517.P14666.domain.com: Permission denied I made a temporary fix for now (the ole' standby, chmod 777), but I would like to know if this is a permanent error (lost mail) or if these are retried/requeued.     Imagine you work in Office 2007 or 2010, you create a far-fetched presentation and save it as 'ppt'. Office 2007/2010 warns you that some effects will be lost, but you save it. Question: If you open that ppt file in the office version you're working with(2007/2010) will it run like on '97 or '03 with the lack of effects, no other problems? I'm asking so I know whether I have to install an older office so I can check compatibility.I use 2010. Thanks in advance

  • ssh sessions in xterms freeze for many minutes whenever they disconnect

    If I ssh to a remote machine and then lose internet connectivity, the session freezes. I can't control-c or otherwise abort and go back to my local xterm or terminal prompt but if I wait several minutes it will do so. There must be some way to force it to abort the remote ssh session when connectivity is lost. I'm on a Mac but I believe this happens on cygwin or linux as well.

I turned on replication in the Distributed File System Administrator Tool as well and this morning we lost tons of files from that share.   • Monitoring the status of accounts with IT Service providers (ISP, Domain Registrar etc.)

    Hi All, Short version: You have software that tells you when your servers power-outlet is down. It monitors multiple servers from one management console, alerts you when something is wrong etc. Does anyone know of software that will let me take the same approach to monitor if the money-outlet (the bill!) is down (not paid) to my IT Services providers (ISP, Domain Registrar, MX Backup service etc). I need a top down, centrally managed service that is capable of sending out alerts. Just like the one that monitors my own exchange server etc. I don't mind if i have to manually enter every payment. Long version: Our very likable but absent minded bookkeeper keeps neglecting to pay our IT vendors on time. Just this past week our internet service was disconnected. Same could happen to many other mission critical accounts (domain registrar, backup MX, anti-virus license, HackerSafe (McAfee secure) service and even an 800 number to name a few). As the sysadmin, i monitor my severs to make sure they are plugged into the power-outlet. I believe i should also monitor my services to make sure they are plugged in to their money-outlet. To compound the problem, when the power goes out someone else will likely notice and notify me. But if a bill is not payed, no one will ever notice until service is lost. Lost as in losing our domain name which would cause a lot more damage then the power failing on our server. [Solution] = [Doesn't work because]: Retrain the bookkeeper = Wishful thinking. Notify my manager = Already have (via email). Protects me, does not solve problem. Fire bookkeeper = What makes you so sure the next one will never forget? Bottom line: Humans are humans and sooner or later something critical will be royally messed up. We need to partner with a machine to help us out here. Anybody have the same problem? What software/solution do you use? I would like software that emails me when a bill is passed due just like i get an email when the power outlet fails. Anyone hear of anything like that? Thanks

    I'm setting up development environment on Mac OSX. However the PHP web application can't connect the mysql server installed with Zend Server CE. The error information is below, [Type] dbnot_connect [2013] Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 61 Mysql database can be accessed via phpAdmin installed with Zend Server CE as well. The same code works well on Windows or Linux in Zend Server CE.
