  • Is it possible to change a exe's icon without recompiling it?

    Hi all, I have lot of executable that I have compiled (long time back) for many of which I don't have sourcecode now. But when I compiled them I didn't put any icons for them, so they all look like same dull, bald default icon. So my questions are, (1) is it possible for me to write a software that can change the resources section of the exe and change its looks? If so, can anyone plz point me to the location where its explained? (I am a beginner, I have no idea on the exe format and all) Also its fun to keep changing Icons without having the pain of recompiling everything just for the icon change... (2) This is raises a natural converse question, Is it similarly possible to zap out the icon used by some file and use it for some other file? (If so, plz point me to location where I can get some details. I am a C/C++ developers and I am looking for solution on Windows Platform... Regards, MicroKernel

  • Why is my launcher icon smaller when placed on the Android desktop?

    I have an application built for 1.5 and I am adding higher resolution drawables to support hdpi devices in 1.6 and above. My original application icon is 48x48. I created a second launcher icon that is 72x72 and placed it in a res/drawable-hdpi/ directory. When I install the application on my Nexus One the icon looks good when I view it in the application menu. But when I place it on the desktop it appears small relative to other icons, my guess is I'm seeing the 48x48 version with no scaling. These are my two resource directories: res/drawable/appicon.png res/drawable-hdpi/appicon.png Do I need to do something differently either with my directory structure or my manifest file to get things to display correctly?   • Is is possible to use transparency in an iPhone app icon?

    I created a 57X57 Circle-shaped icon (without shine) which has transparency outside of the circle-shape for my app. I can successfully install the app on Simulator and iPhone. It works fine, and looks great. However, can I submit an icon with transparency to Apple. Will they accept it? I can't find any apps which have transparency in their icon... instead they use a kind of pseudo-transparency - a jet black background with no shine.

    I'm used to use padding + background-image to place an icon next to a link. There are many example of this approach. Here is one from here: <a class="external" href="http://www.othersite.com/">link</a> a.external { padding-right: 15px; background: transparent url(images/external-link-icon.gif) no-repeat top right; } But most browser don't print background image, which is annoying. What is the standard to place icon next to links which is semantically correct and works in all cases? (I couldn't find an exact similar question. If there is one, just close this one as duplicate)

  • How do I resize a flat vector icon so that it preserves hard edges in Photoshop (CS4)

    I recently purchased Drew Wilson's Pictos icon library. It is a library of flat, monochromatic icons for use on the web and elsewhere. The only issue is: they're vectors. I know my way around Illustrator a little bit, but ultimately I want to import these icons into Photoshop and resize to various dimensions. The problem I'm having: when I import an icon and resize it to, say, 20x20 pixels, I notice that there is a fair bit of aliasing around the edges of the icon. I'm sure there is some magic number where the edges of these icons will remain crisp, but I can't find any option or setting that will allow me to size these icons properly. Is there a way in Photoshop to snap these icons to the closest size that removes or minimizes the aliasing?

  • How to add ONLY system tray icon to application?

    I am developing an application that will be running behind the scenes in Windows and would like to put an icon in the system tray for troubleshooting purposes (simple way for users to tell if the app is running). There is no other UI for the application, and the icon does not need to have any functionality as of right now. All of the solutions I have found as of yet involve creating a form. I am wondering if there is a way to simply add a class to my current C# code that allows me to control the icon, rather than doing the whole 'make a form, set it to be invisible....' nonsense that seems to be the popular suggestion on the forums. Something along the lines of the way that UI control is done in say, Swing for Java. I would really appreciate any ideas! (Sorry if this is a n00b question...I haven't used C# before...)     Is there any way to change the 47x47 PNG, pointed to within info.plist, for the iPhone springboard icon from within code? I understand I can add a translation and change the springboard icon per language that the iPhone supports via a changed info.plist per language, but I would like to change the springboard icon for my iPhone app based on a user preference within the app. Any ideas? I haven't tried this, but can a file be copied over another within an app bundle? Could I ship with info.plist pointing to "base.png" then replace "base.png" with another PNG I package with my app from within code? Thanks. --Batgar

    I know it's not what toastr (or toast notifs in general) are meant to be used for, but I want to use them as a modal notification. My idea is following. On toast show: toastr.options.onShown = function() { //Create an overlay on the entire page} Overlay: #overlay { background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.8); z-index: 999; position: absolute; left: 0; top: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; display: none; } And on toast close: toastr.options.onHidden = function() { //make overlay go away } Also, I'm setting timeout of toast to 0 so it won't disappear by itself. Question: I want the toast notification to stay atop the overlay and not behind it as overlay will cover everything. How can I do it?

    I'm trying to add an external icon from an *.ico file to a window that I'm creating using the WindowBuilder design window. I can select the shell, which brings up an "image" properties field. That brings up the image chooser dialog box: How do I make my icon show up in this menu as a classpath resource? The image works if an absolute path is given, but I don't want to use that option in my application. Thanks!

    I want to set text above and below a JButton's icon. At the moment, in order to achieve this, I override the layout manager and use three JLabel instances (i.e. 2 for text and 1 for the icon). But this seems like a dirty solution. Is there a more direct way of doing this? Note -I'm not looking for a multi-line solution, I'm looking for a multi-label solution. Although this article refers to it as a multi-line solution, it actually seems to refer to a multi-label solution.     I want to set a menu option icon for a drawable that is in another jar inside an xml file. <item android:id="@+id/my_location" android:title="My Location" android:icon="@+drawable/my_location"> Instead of drawable/my_location have something like com.somelib.R.drawable.someDrawable. I can set this in onCreateOptionsMenu but was just wondering if it could be done via the xml file.

  • Why does the wireless network icon have a red X over it when everything seems to work?

    I booted my almost brand new laptop running Windows 7 this morning and noticed a red X through the wireless networking icon in the system tray. At first I thought something was wrong, but clicking on it shows a good connection to my wireless network. I had no problem getting here to post this question. I'm very new to Windows 7 so I have no idea how to troubleshoot this myself. Is there an actual problem here? Can I fix the icon so it doesn't falsely display an error (I assume that's what the red X means)? Here's what I know: I can get here to post this question. There's at least one unsecured network available that I'm not connected to. I can see a bunch of wireless networks, presumably from my neighbors' houses. There are no other computers turned on in my house right now. The device manager shows no problems with any devices. I can ping my default gateway, DNS, and yahoo.com with no problem.

  • iPhone SDK: How do I create an overlay drop-down menu?

    Hi, I have a UIViewController containing its UIView which occupies the available screen (inbetween the tabbar and nav bar). I'd now like to add a simple toolbar which is situated at the top of the UIView which will contain some buttons. One of the buttons should display a drop down menu which is displayed as an overlay over the UIView. I'd quite like this menu to be a UITable as it could contain many items. The problem I'm having is I can't see the best way to go about this. I'm wondering whether there's a simple strategy. Here's an example of the type of feature I'm looking for...   • jqGrid "Loading..." overlay showing "undefined" though grid is working

    I have a jqGrid that's working 100% except that it keeps displaying "undefined" in the "Loading..." overlay. I can't really figure it out. It seems like I should only get the "undefined" message if something isn't set right and the grid would cease to work. But that's not the case. scratches head I'm not really sure a code sample would help here, but if anyone would like to see a certain part of my code let me know and I'll included. Has anyone else come across this issue before? I'm probably missing something so simple and small that I can't see it. So my apologies in advance if this is a no-brainer Thanks for your help.

    Can a bookmarklet be used to overlay an image on a web page? Not as a pop-up, but as a image positioned by CSS and with a high z-index to display on top of other elements. And without a mask i.e., Shadowbox or similar jQuery effect. Just an image from a URL and positioned in the bottom left hand corner of the browser window. This is what I have so far, but it may be the wrong direction to be going: javascript:(function(){document.write("body {background-image:url(http://mydomain.com/image.png); position: absolute; left:50px; top:300px; z-index:9999;}");})() I have a JS function that works as a bookmarklet to change the case of text on the page, and now I'd like to be able to show an image when the bookmarklet is used.

  • JQuery tools overlay opens at the top of page instead of overlaying in IE, works fine in FF/Chrome

    Here is the sandbox version of my site: http://3.latest.truxmapper.appspot.com/ To reproduce the error, hover over to the toolbar and go to Support -- FAQ. In Chrome/FF, this will work as expected. In IE, the background image will quickly move to the center of the page, but when its time to insert the div over the background image, its inserted on top of the page rather than the center of the page. The plugin example ( http://flowplayer.org/tools/overlay/apple.html ) works fine in IE, so i know it ought to be possible. I've tried messing around with the div placement on the html and with the css to no avail. Does anyone know what could be the problem? Thanks!

    Hi All, I have a textbox, a button and a "AdvancedSearch" link on my aspx page. On page load, the focus is set to the textbox. On click of the "AdvancedSearch" link, a lightbox(overlay) window will be opened. I want to set focus to a textbox present within this lightbox window. I am using javascript to achieve this. The code looks somewhat like this: if( element.type != "hidden" && element.style.display != "none" && !element.disabled ) { element.focus(); return; } when the lightbox window loads, i get a javascript error - "Can't move focus to the control because it is invisible, not enabled, or of a type that does not accept the focus" Any idea why this error is thrown and why it is not able to set focus to the textbox in the lightbox window?   • How does Windows 7 taskbar "color hot-tracking" feature calculate the colour to use?

    This has intrigued me for quite some time. Does anyone know the algorithm Windows 7 Aero uses to determine the colour to use as the hot-tracking hover highlight on taskbar buttons for currently-running apps? It is definitely based on the icon of the app, but I can't see a specific pattern of where it's getting the colour value from. It doesn't seem to be any of the following: An average colour value from the entire icon, otherwise you would get brown all the time with multi-coloured icons like Chrome. The colour used the most in the image, otherwise you'd get yellow for the SQL Server Management Studio icon (6th from left). Also, the Chrome icon used red, green and yellow in equal measure. A colour located at certain pixel coordinates within the icon, because Chrome is red -indicating the top of the icon - and Notepad++ (2nd from right) is green - indicating the bottom of the icon. I asked this question on ux.stackoverflow.com and it got closed as off-topic, but someone answered with the following: As described by Raymond Chen in this MSDN blog article: Some people ask how it's done. It's really nothing special. The code just looks for the predominant color in the icon. (And, since visual designers are sticklers for this sort of thing, black, white, and shades of gray are not considered "colors" for the purpose of this calculation.) However I wasn't really satisfied with that answer because it doesn't explain how the "predominant" colour is calculated. Surely on the SQL Management Studio icon, the predominant colour, to my eyes at least, is yellow. Yet the highlight is green. I want to know, specifically, what the algorithm is.
