• unit test service layer - NUnit, NHibernate

  Hi, I would like to unit test a DEPENDENT service layer which allows me to perform CRUD operation without mocking using NUnit. I know this is probably bad practice but I want to give it a try anyway - even if the tests have to run over night. My data is persisted using NHibernate and I have implemented a little library that 'bootstraps' the database which I could use in a [Setup] method. I am just wondering if someone has done something similar and what the fastest method for bootstrapping the database is. I am using something like this: var cfg = new Configuration(); cfg.Configure(); cfg.AddAssembly("Bla"); new SchemaExport(cfg).Execute(false, true, false); to establish the db schema. After that I populate some lookup tables from some Excel tables. Any feedback would be very much appreciated. Thanks. Christian

• Why does TabStop stop working??

  I have a project that uses a series of auto-generated user control instances. The user-control itself exists, but I populate a panel with a series of these user controls, one for each item in my collection. Each user control displays a ton of information, but only ONE text field is editable. All of the other fields have TabStop set to false, and are marked as ReadOnly. The tab order of each user control is set at the time it is created so that the tab-key goes from one field to the next (or ... it's supposed to). When I have TWO fields on my user control whose TabStop is set to true, everything works great. But if I only have ONE field whose TabStop is true, the tab key stops working, and I have to physically CLICK on the next user control for it to gain focus. What's up? Has anyone else seen this behavior? Am I doing something stupid as usual?

• Strange behaviour of switch case with boolean value

  My question is not about how to solve this error(I already solved it) but why is this error with boolean value. My function is private string NumberToString(int number, bool flag) { string str; switch(flag) { case true: str = number.ToString("00"); break; case false: str = number.ToString("0000"); break; } return str; } Error is Use of unassigned local variable 'str'. Bool can only take true or false. So it will populate str in either case. Then why this error? Moreover this error is gone if along with true and false case I add a default case, but still what can a bool hold apart from true and false? Why this strange behaviour with bool variable?

  Hi, I have a configuration file with a lot of data like sensor locations, type, rules for activating devices etc. Basically related to a pervasive system. I plan to design an ontology for this domain. The doubt in my mind is how should I populate the ontology with the information in the configuration file, as the configuration files are going to change every now and then. Earlier I was planning to use XML, so I can just read the configuration file at runtime and create an XML as per the XSD. Do we use the same technique for Ontologies? • Manually insert items into DDL after data binding...

  I have a dropdownlist, which dynamically populate data from SQL Server and i wanna manually insert two items on top of the DDL after data binding. So, the DDL would has data something like this: Select Branch (manually insert) ALL (manually insert) AIR AMP ABG ... I tried to achieve it by using code below: ddlBranch.Items.Insert(0, "Select Branch") ddlBranch.Items(0).Value = CMM.sExcVal1 ddlBranch.Items.Insert(1, "ALL") ddlBranch.Items(1).Value = "ALL" but it comes out giving me the data like this: Select Branch (manually insert) ALL (manually insert) ('AIR' branch should be here but it's gone) AMP ABG ... After manually insert the 'ALL' item into the DDL, the 'AIR' is gone which is already replaced by the 'ALL'. How can i remain all the data from server and at the same time i can manually insert two items?

• Is there anyway of making json data readable by a Google spider?

  Is it possible to make JSON data readable by a Google spider? Say for instance that I have a JSON feed that contains the data for an e-commerce site. This JSON data is used to populate a human-readable page in the users browser. (I.E. The translation from JSON data to human displayed page is done inside the users browser; not my choice, just what I've been given to work with, its an old legacy CGI application and not an actual server-side scripting language.) My concern here is that, the google spiders will not be able to pickup/directly link to the item in question when a user clicks on it in google, being presented with an index page full of all the items, rather than being linked directly to the item they clicked on. Is there anyway of "informing" the google spider in the JSON that what they should feed the user a different link?

• If XmlException.SourceUri is read-only, what good is it?

  I have a couple places in my code where it throwing a new System.Xml.XmlException seems appropriate. I could just do throw new XmlException("Your XML sucks go fix it then try again."); But I think it's better to take advantage whenever possible of members particular to the exception class (otherwise ya might as well throw a plain ol' Exception every time). SourceUri and LineNumber would be helpful, but they only have get methods, there's no way I can assign a value to them! There's only 3 constructor overloads and none of them have parameters for those members either; I can only initialize Message, nothing else. There has got to be some way to populate those data members with values, otherwise why does XmlException bother with them? I suppose I could make a new class that inherits XmlException and write a new constructor that initializes SourceUri etc. but still, there must be a way to just use XmlException. Right?

• Deselecting a form input and waiting for a function before submitting

  I have a form with an input field where a user enters a unique identifier. I then have some jQuery code that upon the user moving away from the input field (blur) goes out and fetches details about the part and populates some fields on the page. The problem is if the user clicks the submit button before moving out of the input field the jQuery code never has a chance to load in the data and populate the necessary fields. Whats the best way to go about doing this? I thought about maybe setting the focus to body and then having an infinite loop that keeps checking the page until all fields that should be filled in have been filled in but I feel like some sort of event based solution would be better than unpredictable infinite loops. Any ideas?

  I have searched the net and searched the net only to not quite find the probably I am running into. I am currently having an issue getting a SqlDataAdapter to populate a DataSet. I am running Visual Studio 2008 and the query is being sent to a local instance of SqlServer 2008. If I run the query itself in SqlServer, I do get information. The following query sort of works: Select f.name, max(f.version) from FeatureList f group by f.name The trouble is that won't populate the key field, which I need to contain the key of the record with the highest version number for the given FeatureList. If I add f.key in the select it won't work because it's not in the group by or an aggregate and if I put it in the group by the whole thing stops working and it just gives me every version as a separate entity. So, can anybody help?

• Can I use JPA/EJB3 on a table that was created at runtime?

  This is weird and probably not possible but I'll ask anyway. I'm making this app that reads in a meta file and creates some tables then populates them with data. I was wondering if I could somehow use JPA to populate those tables. Obviously, there's no way I could have an entity with annotations on it since the table didn't exist at compile time. But perhaps JPA or the entity manager has a way to load data into a nameless table? If possible, I'd expect a method like entityManager.update("myTableName", hashMapOfColumnNamesAndColumnDataValues);

• Modify Emdeded String in C# compiled exe

  I have an issue where I need to be able to have a compiled exe ( .net 3.5 c# ) that I will make copies of to distribute that will need to change a key for example before the exe is sent out. I cannot compile each time a new exe is needed. This is a thin client that will be used as part of a registration process. Is it possible to add a entry to a resource file with a blank value then when a request comes in have another application grab the blank default thin client, copy it, populate the blank value with the data needed. If yes how? If no do you have any ideas? I have been scratching my head for a few days now and the limitation as due to the boundaries I am required to work in. The other idea I has was to inject the value into a method, which I have no idea how I would even attempt that. Thanks.

The idea is if someone selects something on the first screen say then a new view opens(tableview) car make> list of models Honda > Acura, S2000,accord ... My challenge is to show the list of models in a new tableview & secondly change the size of hte list depending on the car selected.   I'd like to 1) Draw create form fields and populate them with data from javascript objects 2) Update those backing objects whenever the value of the form field changes Number 1 is easy. I have a few js template systems I've been using that work quite nicely. Number 2 may require a bit of thought. A quick google search on "ajax data binding" turned up a few systems which seem basically one-way. They're designed to update a UI based on backing js objects, but don't seem to address the question of how to update those backing objects when changes are made to the UI. Can anyone recommend any libraries which will do this for me? It's something I can write myself without too much trouble, but if this question has already been thought through, I'd rather not duplicate the work.

• How can I accept a hash mark in a URL via $_GET?

  From what I have been able to understand, hash marks (#) aren't sent to the server, so it doesn't seem likely that I will be able to use raw PHP to parse data like in the URL below: index.php?name=Ben&address=101 S 10th St Suite #301 I'm looking to pre-populate form fields with this $_GET data. How would I do this with Javascript (or jQuery), and is there a fallback that wouldn't break my form for people not using Javascript? Currently if there is a hash (usually in the address field), everything after that is not parsed in or stored in $_GET.

  Hi, I have the following scenario for an MVC 2 website. The user checks a radio. I make a jQuery GET to retrieve some html (partial view + view model). The view-model is annotated with validation attributes. I need client-side validation for the new html's inputs. I tried placing the following line in the partial view: <% Html.EnableClientValidation(); % I was naive. Also for the obtained html I use jQuery's .html to populate my placeholder, which also would execute the javascript. Not that there is any. Is is possible to update the page's validation logic and metadata after the ajax call ? Any ideas (beside remote client side validation) ? Thanks in advance.

  I am writing code that will populate the Margin, Padding and BorderThickness properties of classes in the System.Windows.Documents namespace. Each of these properties accepts a value in the form of a System.Windows.Thickness, which is a struct. However, I wish to associate some additional data with each of these property assignments, which may subsequently be retrieved by my code. If Thickness were a class, I would inherit from it and define properties in the subclass to store my additional data items. But since it is a struct, inheritance is not possible. Is there any practical way to achieve this, while maintaining type-compatibility with the properties I am populating? Thanks for your ideas, Tim

  Hi All, I'm looking for a generic "Row Picker" for JQuery. We've all seen the cool "Picker" tools like date pickers, color pickers, time pickers, etc, where you click in a text box and a little calendar or color palate or clock or something comes up. You select something (like a date) and the text box is then populated with a value. I really need an all-purpose "row picker" where you can populate something (a table, divs, etc) with some rows of data (say a list of timezones). This would be linked to a text field and would pop up when the user clicks in the field. They would click a row (say a timezone), and the timezone id would be passed back to the field.   Hello, Let's say I've a class myClass which has few properties, such as property1, property2, perperty3, etc. Now, I'd like to populate an array with each of those properties so that, I can access each of them through its index. • Whats the best way to stop this app crash when buttons rapidly pressed iphone obj-c

  Hi, I'm not entirely sure why this crash is happening and I'd like to get advice on the best way to deal with it. My app has 3 buttons. Each button requests a different XML file from a server which is used to populate a table view. If I rapidly press the buttons in sequence , button 1 button 2 button3 button 1 button 2 button3 button 1 button 2 button3 the application quits. What could be causing this. Would id be in the NSURLRequest side of things or the table view population side? How would you suggest I stop this behaviour? I was going to just set a boolean "isRequesting" to true when a button is pressed and set it to false when the table view is finished populating. If any button is pressed while isRequesting is True they do nothing. Does that sound wise or is there a better way? Thanks, dub
