• ASP.NET MVC 2 strange behavior

  Hi Recently I installed VS 2010 Release (migrated from RC) and my MVC application is not working anymore. More concrete: I have a wizard with several steps for new customer account creation (Jquery form wizard, but it doesn't really matter). Each step contains a typed partial View for each part of account: Company, Customer, Licence, etc. When I submit the form I see really strange thing in ModelState. There are duplicate keys for Company: with "Company" prefix and without it. Something like this: [6] "Company.Phone" string [12] "Phone" string My model state for all these keys is not valid because Company is actually null and validation fails. When it was RC there were no such keys with "Company" prefix. So these keys in ModelState with prefix "Company" appeared after I installed VS Release. • Sony DCR-TRV14E Video Camera Drivers for Windows 7 64-bit

  Hi, I've just built a new PC and installed 64-bit Windows 7 RC. I'm trying to get my video camera to work with it. It's a Sony DCR-TRV14E (PAL). When using Firewire, Windows detects the camera but does not display the "autorun" popup dialog with the various options of what to do with the files on the camera. However, the camera does appear in the devices page of Control Panel. When using USB, Windows fails when trying to install drivers. I can't find any drivers on the Sony site which say they'll be compatible with Windows 7 (or 64-bit). Has anyone had any luck with this Sony camera (or similar ones?). Thanks.

  I have deployed the default asp.net mvc 4 web api project to my windows server 2008 RC and am experiensing some issues with calling the web api actions. I'm quite new in the server/iis configuration part. I can open the home page, but the API part doesnt work. • Squid, NTLM, Windows 7 and IE8

  I'm running Squid 2.7-stable4, Samba 3 and the Windows 7 RC with IE8. I have NTLM authentication setup on my squid proxy server and it works fine for every combination of browser and Windows (including IE8 on XP and Firefox on Win7), but it doesn't work (keeps asking for authentication) for IE8 on Windows 7. I can get it to work using the LmCompatibilityLevel registry hack, but I'd really prefer to get it working on the server. Does anyone have any experience with this? Or know where to start looking? The samba logs don't reveal much. • Problems connecting to MS Dynamics AX 2009 Application Object Server

  I've got a funny problem connecting to an AOS server. I got a domain network containing a (VM) Server running the Application Object Server (AOS). Client computer A) can connect to the AOS without problems and work. When client computer B) tries to connect, all I get is this error message: Logon Error Connection with the Application Object Server could not be established. The event log of Client B) does not contain any messages about this. Firewalls are off on all three computers (by GP). Tcp/ip from cliebt B) to the AOS server does run fine. Both clients run the same OS (win 7 RC), sit on the same subnet, next to each other. Yesterday it all worked, today just one computer can connect. Any ideas what might cause this problem, how to resolve it, or how to debug it?

• Make windows 7 client compatible with windows 2003 server

  Hi, I am sysadmin for a small business with 30 clients. We have a server running windows 2003 and all the client-computers run windows XP. Now this is not an important issue, but it would be nice if it worked. My personal (home) computer is running windows 7 RC. When I bring my home-computer to work and log into the network with domain\username it logs me in just fine. Although, approving my profile, letting me into the network, including all network drives and printers, it does not download the profile fully. I do believe it might be getting the roaming profiles. So all my user- items, documents etc. attached to the profile does not show up on Windows 7. Is there any way to make it fully download the profile? as it does with Windows XP.

• VPN with wrong subnet mask

  I followed these instructions on www.hottonetworking.com to set up VPN on a clean install of Windows Server 2008 SP2 (not R2 yet). When I then establish a VPN connection to that machine from a client machine (running Windows 7 RC), everything succeeds (it seems since I get a 'Connected' state in the network sharing center window), but I end up with a subnet mask (according to ipconfig /all) of 255.255.255.255 instead of 255.255.255.0. The net effect is that I don't have local network or internet capability. What additional configuration steps do I have to do to get VPN with the proper subnet mask working? Update: Using the steps outlined in the Technet article mentioned by Mr. Nimble, I was able to get internet connection. Apparently the subnet mask is not an issue as my coworker was able to connect using his VPN connection and ping the server machine by name as well.

• how to multi-boot/upgrade linux from LVM-based partition

  i currently have FC3 linux which installed itself on the hard disk using LVM partitioning, so it is basically all one big partition. i would like to try some other distributions and upgrade to something newer, but don't want to lose my current capabilities and data files, and i know nothing or less about LVM. Is it possible (and if so an example would be nice) to install a non-LVM-based distribution on the LVM disk and have multi-boot options? Or do i have to start over new and drop the LVM? My guess is that i should save my /home (data files and .rc files) on a backup device first, then somewhere/somehow create a new partion for installing another distribution. Any LVM experts out there that have tried anything like this--well i sure could use some pointers and advice...

  I don't really have any need to mess with passenger or capistrano at the moment. I simply want to run rails on boot on port 3000. I've attempted to replicate this tutorial for node as much as I could to run rails: I've a railsup script in /etc/init.d/ that goes something like: #!/bin/sh export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/bin case "$1" in start) cd /root/rails_app; /usr/local/rvm/gems/ruby-2.0.0-p247/bin/rails server -d -p 3005 ;; # starting other stuff *) I've also included it with update-rc.d I got it to work, but only if I run the script manually - it doesn't seem to run on boot. Is there any reason why ../bin/rails is unavailable on boot? I imagine there's something about ruby path \ rvm \ rails that I'm unaware of? Is there a way to use crontab's @reboot for this?

• I don't understand how GDM is starting...

  I'm on Karmic. I had no keyboard, so I enabled autologin and some other stuff over ssh to get x2x going. Now I can't find what I did. I'm trying to just start X and XBMC now. I don't need gnome. I disabled gdm: sudo update-rc.d -f gdm remove but it still somehow manages to start on boot. Where can I look around for what I did? If I stop gdm then startx again, it goes straight to XBMC like I want.

  my actual problem is trying to debug a init script to start Resque. It works fine run as root from the command line, but does nothing on boot. It has some proper insserv headers and I've run updaterc.d to create the symlinks, and checked that they exist. The script is +x. # find /etc/rc*.d -name \*resque\* /etc/rc0.d/K01resque /etc/rc1.d/K01resque /etc/rc2.d/S01resque /etc/rc3.d/S01resque /etc/rc4.d/S01resque /etc/rc5.d/S01resque /etc/rc6.d/K01resque # ls -l /etc/init.d/resque -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 2093 Oct 24 03:02 /etc/init.d/resque the script can be viewed here if you like. It uses lsb functions to log messages, which essentially echo() to STDOUT I believe. So where does the output go during startup? It's not in /var/log/*log

  I'm dual-booting OS X and Ubuntu on a Macbook 4,1. I'm trying to mount my Linux partition in OS X. I installed MacFUSE 2.0.3,2 and fuse-ext2-0.0.7 on Snow Leopard 10.6.5.   I was wondering what is the best way to mount the /tmp endpoint in the ephemeral storage /mnt on an EC2 instance and give the ubuntu user default write permissions. Some suggest editing /etc/rc.local this way: mkdir -p /mnt/tmp && mount --bind -o nobootwait /mnt/tmp /tmp However that doesn't work for me (files differs). I tried editing the default fstab entry: /dev/xvdb /mnt auto defaults,nobootwait,comment=cloudconfig 0 2 replacing /mnt with /tmp and and giving it a umask=0777, however it doesn't work because of cloudconfig. I'm using Ubuntu 12.04. Thanks.

• Fedora12, XP and connection sharing via iptables

  Just a quick question ( I Hope ) To find out if what I'm trying is even possible. I am trying to share internet connection with Fedora12 as default gateway and XP machine hooked up via NIC using iptables commands as shown in Mark Sobell's book 'A Practical Guide To Fedora And Red Hat Enterprise Linux' These are the commands as placed in /etc/rc.local iptables -A FORWARD -i eth1 -o eth0 -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT iptables -A FORWARD -i eth0 -o eth1 -j ACCEPT iptables -A FORWARD -j LOG iptables -t NAT -A POSTROUTING -o eth1 -j MASQUERADE I did flip the in and out parameters to match my NIC configuration ( as opposed to example from book ) but other than that followed example. One thing to note is that Sobell did not mention whether this should work with mix of Linux and XP. One other note ( maybe meaningless ) is that I do have samba working between the two machines. So instead of subject "mdadm monitoring" it wished to be "mdadm monitoring from «IP ADDRESS»" or like that. • Failover tmpfs mirroring. Am I doing it right?

  My goal is to have a certain directory to be available as tmpfs. There will be some modifications during server uptime in this dir and those modifications must be synced to non-tmpfs persistent dir on HDD over rsync. After server boot the latest version from non-tmpfs persistent dir must be moved to tmpfs and rsync syncing to be started. I'm afraid that rsync will erase non-tmpfs backup if tmpfs dir will be empty.. I'm doing it in this way right now: create tmpfs partition in /etc/fstab cat /etc/rc.local (pseudocode) delete "tmpfs rsync" cronjob from /var/spool/cron/crontabs if there is any cp -r /path/to/non-tmpfs-backup /path/to/tmpfs/dir append /var/spool/cron/crontabs with "tmpfs rsync" cronjob What do you think?

• How to Remove a VM From Hyper-V Without Deleting the Configuration File?

  I'm in the process of moving a number of virtual machines that are homed on shared storage (a file share, though shared cluster disk would work as well) to a new VM host with access to the same shared storage. The new host is a different build version (moving from Windows Server 2012 Beta to Windows Server 2012 RC - though this same process could be used with migrations of Windows Server 2008/2008 R2 to Windows Server 2012 as well), so I cannot migrate the machine with inbox tooling. I need to remove the VM from management of the source Hyper-V host in order to import the VM to the new Hyper-V host. I want to retain the configuration file, so I can import the VM as it stands and not need to reconfigure it. The VHD files are rather large and they are staying on the same file share, so I'd rather not duplicate them during the move process.

• PSU Suggestions for SLI EVGA GTX 680 + i7

  So i am putting together a new machine and am trying to determine the best PSU to go with for this setup. Here is the build i am thinking about Processor Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz Motherboard ASRock Z77 Professional Graphics Card (2 SLI) EVGA 02G-P4-2680-KR Sound Card HT | OMEGA eClaro 7.1 Fan/Heat Sync ZALMAN CNPS9500A-LED Case COOLER MASTER HAF X RC-942-KKN1 RAM G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) SSD Of some Sort So my guess is that i need a 750 -1000W PSU, but which brand.... how much, etc --- really in the woods. • Windows server 2008 can't uninstall FTP

  I'm trying to uninstall the old IIS6 FTP service on Windows Server 2008 so that I can install FTP 7.5. In server manager I clicked remove role services and uninstalled FTP and restarted. The Web Platform Installer 2.0 RC says FTP Service is still installed but it appears uninstalled in server manager. When I try to install FTP7.5 it says that it is incompatible with FTP and that I need to uninstall that first. Is there something else that I need to do to get rid of the old FTP service? Here is a screen shot showing what is installed and the error I'm receiving:

• Jenkins swarm-plugin jar file, won't run in background

  We're working on an automation script for our Jenkins slaves on a local Unix server. To connect the slaves to the Jenkins master, we use the swarm plugin. Setting up the master was easy, and connecting clients is also easy with a single command. However, I am trying to get the slave command (a java application) to run in the background without stalling the current process, this doesn't seem to work. I've created an init.d file and added it to update-rc.d but that doesn't work. #!/bin/bash /usr/bin/java -jar /root/swarm-client-1.7-jar-with-dependencies.jar -executors 4 I've also tried to run it with an ampersand & to start the process in the background, but that doesn't work either because - from looking at the source - the jar file actually boots another process that is then started in the foreground. Any ideas on how to make this jar file start without stopping the bootstrap script?

• Glusterfs : 'No route to host' for fstab mount in CentOS

  I am using glusterfs, and am using fstab in this way: <IPADDRESS>:/<VOLUMENAME> /some/mount/point glusterfs defaults,_netdev 0 0 but the logs for the mount continue to say the following. [<TIMESTAMP>] E [socket.c:2161:socket_connect_finish] 0-<VOLUMENAME>-client-1: connection to <IPADDRESS>:24007 failed (No route to host) I know this is not true, since when the system is up and running, I can easily issue a mount and the volume gets mounted. (I've done this by using rc.local) after reading more I have seen that using _netdev is preferred, and that if the host cannot be reached netfs will remount the volume after the network comes up, but that is not happening. (netfs is running). Is there a way to make the mount happen at a different time without using a script? (I would prefer to use fstab to manage the mounting even though I can use a script.)

• Setting a Static IP Running FreeBSD8 in VirtualBox hosted on Windows 7

  I'm using VirtualBox on Windows 7 (host) to run a FreeBSD (guest) based web server. I`ve assigned a static ip of 192.168.80. 1 to the (virtualized) NIC which is run in bridged mode. The problem is that when I ping an external server (such as google.com) I get a No route to host error: dimetro# ping google.com PING google.com (66.249.90.104): 56 data bytes ping: sendto: No route to host ... I can ping the BSD server from both another virtualized machine and my host machine and from the server, I can ping everything on the network. The router ip is 192.168.1.1/16. ADDENDUM: I have the following lines in /etc/rc.conf on the BSD VM to configure networking: defaultrouter="192.168.1.1" ifconfig_em0="inet 192.168.80.1 netmask 255.255.0.0"

• How do I fix Handbrake mp4s that produce Error -2041 when loaded in QuickTime?

  After encoding a DVD video to MP4 using Handbrake 0.9.4(2009112300) using the High Profile preset, my video will not open in QuickTime. I receive the following error: Error -2041: An invalid sample description was found in the movie (Movie.mp4) Here is the preset used to encode the video: <Preset> <Category>Regular</Category> <Name>High Profile</Name> <Query>-e x264 -q 20.0 -a 1,1 -E faac,ac3 -B 160,160 -6 dpl2,auto -R 48,Auto -D 0.0,0.0 -f mp4 --detelecine --decomb --loose-anamorphic -m -x b-adapt=2:rc-lookahead=50</Query> <PictureSettings>true</PictureSettings> <Version>0.9.4</Version> </Preset> How can I adjust this preset or fix the files so that they will play in QuickTime?
