• Visual Studio 2008 IDE freezes/crashes when opening .aspx file with css included

  I have read a lot of questions about Visual Studio 2008 crashing on viewing some source files. However, I still can't fix this problem. Visual Studio (SP1) runs fine until I try and view .aspx source files with the lines <style type="text/css"> </stlye> anywhere in them, upon which it freezes (i.e is totally unresponsive) and I have to use the task manager to shut it down. I have systematically deleted and re-included all other code and it comes down to these two lines, which is very confusing. Sometimes it happens as soon as the lines are added, sometimes it doesn't freeze until I build the solution with any of the problem pages open. I can add external style sheets, and it only started recently. I tried the event viewer logs but I don't really understand how to use them to find out about this. I had Resharper 4.5 installed and have since uninstalled it, and do not have anything else installed. Is there any way I can a) find out what's happening, b) fix it without reinstalling vs?

• XCTest.framework build error

  I am using the DropBox Core API in my app and therefore, I must include the XCTest framework, because, when I haven't added the XCTest framework, my app can't connect to dropbox, however when I do add the framework, I get an error while building for the simulator. There is nothing wrong with my code! • MySQL can't access root account or reset with mysqladmin

  So if I type mysql -u root I'm supposedly logged in, however upon trying to create or access a database I get this lovely error: ERROR 1044 (42000): Access denied for user ''@'localhost' to database 'test1'. I haven't the foggiest idea why after logging in as root it's trying access DB's as ''@'localhost' and it's driving me a bit crazy right now. Possibly related, when I try to set the root password I get the error mysqladmin: Can't turn off logging; error: 'Access denied; you need (at least one of) the SUPER privilege(s) for this operation'. I've tried removing mysql-server via running apt-get purge mysql-server and then reinstalling with no luck. This is running Ubuntu Server 12.10 64-bit and mysql is indeed running. --Edit-- I wonder if perhaps there is no root user. So I try to start MySQL with --skip-grant-tables and the create the root user but then I'm given this: ERROR 1290 (HY000): The MySQL server is running with the --skip-grant-tables option so it cannot execute this statement. Fun fun fun fun fun.

• Migrating MOSS 2007 from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 - Addendum

  This is a continuation of an earlier question I had about moving the databases for a MOSS 2007 installation from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005. Here's the URL for the original question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/254517/migrating-moss-2007-from-sql-2000-to-sql-2005 In my test environment, I've successfully moved the databases to the SQL 2005 test machine and things appear to be working fine. But, on the "Servers in Farm" page of the Central Admin | Operations, it still shows the old (i.e. SQL 2000) server as the Configuration Database Server. Also, it shows the old config database as being the Configuration Database. I know that the SQL2000 server and old config database (that are showing on this page) are NOT being used, because we've deactived the SQL instance in SQL2000. I've tried "removing" the server, and get a message about "Uninstalling SharePoint products and technologies" being the better route. So, I disconnected from the test databases, uninstalled SharePoint from the test WFE server, and reinstalled it. That didn't do anything. Before uninstalling/reinstalling I also tried simply rerunning the SharePoint Configuration wizard, and that didn't do anything either. Does anyone know how to update the Config Server and Config Database on the "Servers in Farm" page after having moved the Config and Content DBs? Is there something I'm missing or overlooking? • Adding SDK-specific frameworks to Xcode

  Hi, Xcode 3.2 kind of broke the build process of my iPhone app. I need to add a new framework to my project (MediaPlayer.framework). So I go into my Target settings and try to add it to the "Linked Libraris" by hitting the [+] button. In the list the MediaPlayer.framework is missing, as well as other frameworks, such as UIKit, CoreGraphic and others. Some frameworks are still there. I can add the frameworks by adding the SDK-specific ones (going into /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOs.platform/...yadayadayada../frameworkd/) but then of course I can only compile for the iPhone platform and not for the simulator any more. So basically I wonder how I can get Xcode back to chose the appropriate framework, depending on platform and SDK version for me? Thanks and kind regards, Hans Schneider Edit: Things I tried: Setting the Base SDK to 3.0 (was still 2.2.1), reinstalling 3.0 iPhone and Simulator SDK from the "packages" directory of the Xcode 3.2 DMG. Didn't help. The frameworks still wont show up in the list... Edit 2: Ok, I now have the frameworks back in the list, I was previously in my AdHoc configuration. In Debug I have the frameworks back. But it still wont compile for the Simualtor (lots of Symbols(s) not found errors). Looks like the linker doesn't choose the correct libraries and always uses the iPhoneOs3.0 path for the frameworks.

• Playing wave file ends immediatly (C++, Windows)

  I've got a following situation. On a machine there is a Fritz ISDN card. There is a process that is responsible for playing a certain wave file on this device's wave out (ISDN connection is made at startup and made persistent). The scenario is easy, whenever needed the process calls waveOutWrite() on the previously opened wave device (everything initialized without any problems of course) and a callback function waits for MMWOMDONE msg to know that the playback has been finished. Since a few days however (nothing changed neither in the process nor the machine) the MMWOMDONE message comes immediately after calling waveOutWrite() even though the wave lasts a couple of seconds. Again no error is reported, it looks like the file was played but had zero length (which is not the case). I am also sure that waveOutReset() was not called by my process (it would also trigger sending the mentioned message). I already used to have some strange problems in the past that where solved simply by reinstalling TAPI drivers. This time for some reason it is problematic form me to perform that once again and am trying more analytical approach :). Any suggestions what might cause such a behavior? Maybe sth on the other end of the ISDN line?

• Looking for all-in-one drm/installer/CD creation kit.

  The company I work for has a download manager in place that handles distribution, DRM, installation of our products - when a user gets them off our website. However, we're using an clunky system for packaging and protecting our products when we do press releases or make retail CDs. Part of the antiquation problem is the fact that the automated system that works with the installer- and DRM-creation software we have is a disaster that needs to be put out of my misery. The list of products that we currently produce, that I would like a new system MUST be capable of producing: Retail CDs, with a certain level of obfuscation to make copying difficult. Downloadable installers that time out after a few hours of use of the product. After the time has expired, removing and reinstalling the product will leave you still blocked from use. Installers that will fail to work after a certain date. I'd love to be able to just feed a tool the directory where a complete product resides and have the installer generated with a couple command-line operations. (The command-line issue is non-negotiable this well be called by an automated tool.) A single-solution package would be far preferable. Software with royalty-based or per-unit based licensing is not an option.

• Compiling gstreamer plugin in windows

  Hello all, My question: What is the correct way to compile a gstreamer plugin in windows, so that it will be accepted by gstreamer (actually Songbird on top of gstreamer). My setup: I have downloaded the songbird sources following the steps described here and I have a trunk/dependencies/windows-i686-msvc8 directory within my svn sources with all the gstreamer binaries. I have created a gstreamer empty plugin skeleton following the steps detailed in the GStreamer Plugin Writer's Guide, and compiled it against the gstreamer binaries in the Songbird dependencies folder. The compilation was done with VS2010 RC1 (Visual Studio 2008 yelded the same results), using an empty DLL project with the .h and .c files generated using the GStreamer Plugin Writer's Guide. The DLL was lined with libcpmt.lib, libcmt.lib, ws2_32.lib, gobject-2.0.lib, gthread-2.0.lib, gstreamer-0.10-0.lib, glib-2.0.lib, kernel32.lib, nspr4.lib and ignoring all default libraries. I have compiled the files as both .c and .cpp with the same results. Testing: I have installed the Songbird binaries corresponding to the correct svn version, then installed Songbird Developer Tools addon and used it to create an addon for testing my gstreamer plugin. Songbird will not load the pluggin. I have also tried to load it with gst-launch.exe from the trunk/dependencies/windows-i686-msvc8/[...] directory and that generated runtime error R6034: An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly. Most resources I found for this problem recommended restarting or reinstalling windows :(.

• Adding an ADO.NET Entity Data Model throws build errors

  I am using Visual Studio 2013 express. I create a new project and then I add a database to that project. But, when I add an ADO.NET Entity Framework model to that project and then run the program, I get the following four build errors listed below. To try to remedy this myself, I added the namespaces 'System.Data.Entity' and 'System.Data.Entity.Design', but that didn't help. Also, I uninstalled and re-installed the Nuget package. I also uninstalled and re-installed Visual Studio 2013 Express for Windows Desktop. But these measures didn't help the situation either. Please note that I used to use the Entity Data model just fine. But it was around the time that I did a system restore on my computer, and when I updated VS 2013 with an update offered on the start page, and finally, when I signed up for MS Azure, that I started running into the problem described above. Now I would think that uninstalling and reinstalling Visual Studio 2013, and then installing the 'Nuget' Package would solve all problems. What am I missing here? • steps to fix a project that won't compile

  Hi Pulling my hair out in trying to get a simple window based project to compile. I am running both 3.2.2 and 3.2.3 versions of Xcode. The latter is set up in a separate folder. Originally I used the latter to create and compile my project against the new 4.0 sdk. It compiled fine. Then I made the mistake of deleting some sdks I thought I no longer needed. Ever since I can no longer compile. Right now I get a dozen or so errors similar to the following "_OBJC_CLASS_$_CATransition", referenced from: objc-class-ref-to-CATransition in ViewTransitionsAppDelegate.o My active executable is the iphone simulator 4 and Base SDK is iPhone device 3.0. I tried reinstalling the xcode3.2.3 installer, no difference. I'm totally stymied, as my project WAS working and compiling fine, both to the simulator and external device. Are there any best practices or recommended steps in fixing or rebuilding a project when it won't compile? Any help welcome!

• Eclipse: PyDev installation difficulties

  I'm having difficulty getting PyDev to work. I had an installation of Eclipse for PHP developers (1.2.1.20090918-0703). A month ago, I installed PyDev, and everything worked great. I go to fire it up this morning, and PyDev is gone. There is no option to create a Python project, the Python language editor is missing, etc. Eclipse for PHP does not say that PyDev is installed, so I grab it from the update URL. The version that comes down is 1.5.6. I restart after the installation, and everything works fine again. Sweet. Then, I grab Subclipse 1.0.7. Upon restarting after that installation, PyDev is now gone. It isn't recognizing Python projects or Python files, etc. So I uninstall Subclipse. PyDev is still gone. Uninstalling and reinstalling PyDev again doesn't bring it back. What am I doing wrong? Do I need a different version of Eclipse?

• What makes deployment successful for some users and unsuccessful for others?

  I am trying to deploy a Visual C++ application (developed with Microsoft Visual Studio 2008) using a Setup and Deployment Project. After installation, users on some target computers get the following error message after launching the application executable: “This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem.” Another user after installation could run the application properly. I cannot find the root cause of this problem, despite spending several hours on the Visual Studio help files and online forums (most postings date back to 2006). Does anyone at Stack Overflow have a suggestion? Thanks in advance. Additional details appear below. The application uses FLTK 1.1.9 for a GUI library, as well as some Boost 1.39 libraries (regex, lexical_cast, date_time, math). I made sure I am trying to deploy the release version (not the debug version) of the application. The Runtime library in the Code Generation settings is Multi-threaded DLL (/MD). The dependency walker of myapp.exe lists the following DLLs: wsock32.dll, comctl32.dll, kernel32.dll, user32.dll, gdi32.dll, shell32.dll, ole32.dll, mvcp90.dll, msvcr90.dll. In the Setup and Deployment Project, I add the following DLLs to the File System on Target Machine: fltkdlld.dll, and a folder named Microsoft.VC90.CRT with msvcm90.dll, msvcp90.dll, mcvcr90.dll and Microsoft.VC90.CRT.manifest. The installation process on the target computers getting the error message requires having the .Net Framework 3.5 installed first. Any suggestion? Thanks in advance!

• MySQL bindings for Rails 2.3.5 on Mac OS X 10.5.8

  I have a rails environment which I set-up with macports. I recently updated macports which seems to have had the side effect of breaking rails. • NUnit for VS has suddenly bombed.. Anyone else experience this?

  I'm getting the following set of errors in a project, that previously worked fine, from NUnit for VS when I try to run either individual or all of the tests in a given solution. Error loading C:\Path to Application\Application\Application.ApplicationTests\bin\Debug\Application.ApplicationTests.dll: The method or operation is not implemented. Error loading C:\Path to Application\Application\Application.FileDetectorTests\bin\Debug\FileDetectorTests.dll: The method or operation is not implemented. Error loading C:\Path to Application\Application\Application.PresentationTests\bin\Debug\Application.PresentationTests.dll: The method or operation is not implemented. Error loading C:\Path to Application\Application\Application.DomainTests\bin\Debug\Application.DomainTests.dll: The method or operation is not implemented. I've verified that each project is setup with the appropriate ProjectTypeGuids for a test project in the Project file. I've tried uninstalling / reinstalling NUnit for VS, but have had no luck. Does anyone have any advice as to how I might start troubleshooting this? If I open each individual test project outside of the main solution (that includes all projects, by the way,) and save it as it's own solution, they run just fine. Nothing of note has changed since this stopped working. Thanks! Ian

• Python modules not updating after restarting the main module.

  I've recently come back to a project having had to stop for about 6 months, and after reinstalling my operating system and coming back to it I'm having all kinds of crazy things happen. I made sure to install the same version(2.6) of python that I was using before. It started by giving me strange tkinter error that I hadn't had trouble with before, the program is relatively simple and the 2 or 3 bugs that were left when i quit, I had documented and weren't related to the interface. Things got even weirder when the same error would pop up even after I had removed the offending section of code. In fact, the traceback pointed to a line that didn't even exist in the module it was referencing, eg: line 262 when the module was only 200 lines long. After just starting a completely new file for the main module and copy/pasting it finally recognized that the offending code was gone and I stopped getting the error only to find that any updates to the code I made in another module didn't show up when I restarted the program through the shell. (I didn't forget to save.) After fiddling with this, of course, the old interface error came back, only in a different section of code that had been working previously. In fact, if I revert back to the files I had six months ago, the program works fine. As soon as I change anything in the main module, however, the interface bug comes back. • How to provide i18n service for developer and end user

  Many android applications have quite poor i18n-support, and for an understandable reason, as it adds much work for the developer. From a both intuitive and cultural point of view it would be a good thing if end-users could translate the apps themself, and OTA share the translation, without reinstalling the app itself. In concept; as wikipedia, some add content easily, others only use what's there. It's of course important that the service is as easy as possible to use, both for app-developers, and people willing to transcribe. To keep it simple, this is the solution I'm concidering; Developer perspective: Developer uses a customized setContentView when open activities/layouts that will seach for thanslations of xml-entries. (below) The customized version is provided as a free downloadable library/class..., turning the i18n feature to more or less a one liner. User perspective: User downloads app without any translation As app launches, it checks locale running at phone, and will look for a translated xml-file at shared space in SD. If no or old transcribed xml (above), try to download new from internet-service (ansync). This is all done by library above, no need for intents. Translator perspective: Separate app to provide translations for any app using the i18n service above. (Could be just a webapp), with some form of QA on translators/input. QUESTION: Now, for this to work efficiently, it has to be AeasyAP for the developer to even bother, and the most fluent solution would be a customized version of setContentView, that simply loads the translated values from external xml, instead of the ones in the apk. Is this possible at all, and if not, what's your suggested solutions? • Python Interactive Interpreter always returns "Invalid syntax" on Windows

  I've encountered an extremely confusing problem. Whatever I type into the Python interpreter returns "Invalid Syntax". See examples below. I've tried fooling around with the code page of the prompt I run the interpreter from, but it doesn't seem to help at all. Furthermore, I haven't been able to find this particular, weird bug elsewhere online. Any assistance anyone could provide would be lovely. I've already tried reinstalling Python, but I didn't have any luck - the problem is also there in both 3.13 and 2.7. Running: Python version 3.1.3, Windows XP SP3. • OSGI, Servlets and JPA hello world / tutorial / example

  I want to build a web application which basically is a restful web-service serving json messages. I would like it to be as simple as possible. I was thinking about using servlets (with annotations). JPA as a database layer is a must - Toplink or Hibernate. Preferably working on Tomcat. I want to have app divided into modules serving different functionality (auth service, customer service, etc..). And I would like to be able to update those modules without reinstalling whole application on the server - like eclipse plugins, user is notified (when he enters webapp's home url) that update is available, clicks it, and app is downloading and installing updated module. I think this functionality can be made with OSGI, but I can't find any example code, or tutorial with simple hello world updatable servlet providing some data from database through jpa. I'm looking for an advice: - Is OSGI the right tool for this or it can be done with something simpler? - Where can I find some examples covering topic (or topics) which I need for this project. - Which OSGI implementation would be best-simplest for this task. *My knowledge of OSGI is basic. I know how bundles are described, I understand concept of OSGI container and what it does. I have never created any OSGI app yet.

  Hello, I am trying to build a solution for windows XP in Visual Studio 2005. This solution contains 81 projects (static libs, exe's, dlls) and is being successfully used by our partners. I copied the solution bundle from their repository and tried setting it up on 3 similar machines of people in our group. I was successful on two machines and the solution failed to build on my machine. The build on my machine encountered two problems: During a simple build creation of the biggest static library (about 522Mb in debug mode) would fail with the message "13libd\ui1d.lib : fatal error LNK1106: invalid file or disk full: cannot seek to 0x20101879" Full solution rebuild creates this library, however when it comes to linking the library to main .exe file, devenv.exe spawns link.exe which consumes about 80Mb of physical memory and 250MB of virtual and spawns another link.exe, which does the same. This goes on until the system runs out of memory. On PCs of my colleagues where successful build could be performed, there is only one link.exe process which uses all the memory required for linking (about 500Mb physical). There is a plenty of hard drive space on my machine and the file system is NTFS. All three of our systems are similar - Core2Quad processors, 4Gb of RAM, Windows XP SP3. We are using Visual studio installed from the same source. I tried using a different RAM and CPU, using dedicated graphics adapter to eliminate possibility of video memory sharing influencing the build, putting solution files to different location, using different versions of VS 2005 (Professional, Standard and Team Suite), changing the amount of available virtual memory, running memtest86 and building the project from scratch (i.e. a clean bundle). I have read what MSDN says about LNK1106, none of the cases apply to me except for maybe "out of heap space", however I am not sure how I should fight this. The only idea that I have left is reinstalling the OS, however I am not sure that it would help and I am not sure that my situation wouldn't repeat itself on a different machine. Would anyone have any sort of advice for me? Thanks

• Compiling a C++ application on Windows 7, but execute it on Win2003 Server

  I have a C++ application (quite complex, multiple projects) in Visual Studio 2008, that produces a single dll. Recently I switched to Windows 7, but had previously been compiling under Windows XP. Suddenly the dll in question cannot be loaded by another application, i.e. on a machine running Windows 2003 Server. I've been trying various things: I've installed the VC9.0 redistributable package on the server Also copied various .dll's from that package to the application folder The project is of course compiled in release mode When I run depends.exe on the client machine, I do get the following error: "Error: The Side-by-Side configuration information for "my_dll.dll" contains errors. This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem (14001). Warning: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in a delay-load dependent module." and the icon for shlwapi.dll has a red overlay icon. This didn't happen when I was compiling under WinXP, so I'm guessing that there really is no problem with the .dll's on the client machine, but somewhere there is a reference to that particular version of some dll. Does anyone know what would be the best way to resolve this? Regards, Daníel

  Hello, I've been using Eclipse for some time already, and I didn't have any problems with it. However, when I tried to generate some javadoc, I found that I didn't have the SDK installed. I installed jdk 6u23, and from then on, Eclipse hasn't been working. At first it told me it couldn't find a JRE/SDK. After copying and placing the JRE in the Eclipse folder, the error changed to this: http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh261/magical_7/Eclipse.png I've searched around for some solutions, and found a few of varying nature. However, none of them seemed to work. I've tried emptying my eclipse.ini file without success. Altering some values in eclipse.ini didn't work either. Installing Java SDK 1.5 didn't work. Does anyone have other possible solutions? Update: I tried reinstalling Eclipse, but it didn't fix the problem. I did notice that it's a 32bit version, while I'm running a 64bit system. However, if this were to be the problem, I find it strange that it hasn't been an issue earlier.

• Apache2 configuration error: "<VirtualHost> was not closed" error

  So I've already checked through my config file and I really can't see an instance where any tag hasn't been properly closed...but I keep getting this configuration error...Would you mind taking a look through the error and the config file below? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. FYI, I've already googled the life out of the error and looked through the log extensively, I really can't find anything. • Can't install new database in OpenLDAP 2.4 with BDB on Debian

  I'm trying to install an openldap server (slapd) on a Debian EC2 instance. I have followed all the instructions I can find, and am using the recommended slapd-config approach to configuration. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling slapd, changing permissions, Googling my wits out, but I'm tapped out. Any OpenLDAP genius out there would be greatly appreciated!
