• Setting up a fake email address to trap spammers

  I have heard it suggested that we set up a special email address, with it's only purpose being to be harvested. Then blacklisting every sender that targets this address. I'm wondering: if anyone else has tried this how do you go about doing it (ie - put the address in a hidden field on your website - or better ways?) does it work? Is there anything to watch out for when trying this (ie. legitimate senders using harvested addresses?)

• Mail Server on Google Apps, Hotmail Blocks

  My company provides private research tools (sites) for companies. Each site has its own domain name and users. These sites need to be able to send outbound mail for notifications such as password reminders. We started using Google Apps for this purpose, but lately we are having tremendous problems with mailing, especially to hotmail. I added the SPF record as required. Mxtoolbox says my domains are not in any blacklists. I was told to contact https://postmaster.live.com/snds/addnetwork.aspx and add my network. Given that I am using google's mail servers for sending mail, should I add their IP address for registering my domain? Or should I add my server's IP even though I am not hosting the mail server on it? • How to setup a daily report of the top e-mail senders in Exchange 2010

  We have had issues with compromised Exchange accounts sending a large amount of unsolicited e-mails out. We have mitigated this by using a cloud e-mail gateway that does a better job in detecting these outgoing messages as to not hurt our e-mail reputation. However, we would still like to detect any abnormal e-mail activities. One idea is a report of the Exchange accounts with the most outgoing message. Any idea on how to do this? Or a similar stat that may be indicative of an account being compromised?

• Warning popups that direct to 3rd party sites

  Lately, I've been getting warning popups on my browser (latest version of Chromium) that notify me that my Java version of current browser is outdated and needs to be updated. What's alarming to me is that it sends me to some sites I've never heard of like Malest.com. When I block a site, it redirects me to a different one. I don't know how to track what's causing these alerts. I ran Microsoft Security Essential and it found nothing. Any suggestions on what to do to nail down this irritating problem?

  We have a shared hosting service running QMail and Plesk. One of our inactive clients was left active in the system by mistake, and spammers found their very weak passwords and sent out a massive barrage of messages before we caught the problem and shut off the services for that domain. My question is this: How did they get access to that domain in the first place? The client is long-gone and the domain/DNS is not pointing at our server at all, and neither is the MX record. So how were they able to find that domain and exploit it when nothing on the "outside" was pointing to it?

• Symfony / Doctrine - How to filter form field by property in related model

  I have a UserForm class which has a select list populated from a related model (specified by a foreign relationship in the yml) like so: $this->setWidget('report_id', new sfWidgetFormDoctrineChoice(array('model' => $this->getRelatedModelName('Report')))); I'd like to filter the Report objects that come from this relation by one of the Report fields, "active" such that only Reports with active=1 appear in the form. I have a method, ReportTable::GetActiveReports() that performs the appropriate query and returns the filtered reports. So one option is to populate the Widget with the results of that function. Any tips on the syntax to do that? It seems to me the cleaner way is to use the UserFormFilter class to filter the reports by active=1 there. Unfortunately I couldn't find any documentation on how to use form filters (or really what they are), so maybe this is not the right solution. Is a Form Filter the appropriate tool for this job? It seems I should use the Doctrine_Record_Filter_Standard class as defined here: http://www.doctrine-project.org/api/orm/1.2/doctrine/doctrine_record_filter_standard.html But it's not clear to me the appropriate usage.   Hello everyone, I'm using soft deleting in my database (IsDeleted field). I'm actively using LoadWith and AssociateWith methods to retrieve and filter nested records. The thing is AssociateWith only works with properties that represents a one-to-many relationship. DataLoadOptions loadOptions = new DataLoadOptions(); loadOption.LoadWith<User>(u = > u.Roles); loadOption.AssociateWith<User>(u = > u.Roles.Where(r = > !r.IsDeleted)); In the example above I just say: I want to retrieve users with related (undeleted) roles. But when I have one-to-one relationship, e.g. Document - File (the only one file is related to the document) I'm unable to filter soft deleted object: DataLoadOptions loadOptions = new DataLoadOptions(); loadOption.LoadWith<Document>(d = > d.File); // the next certainly won't work loadOption.AssociateWith<File>(f = > !f.IsDeleted); So, is there any idea how to filter records within the one-to-one relationship? • Flash/Flex: "Warning: filter will not render" problem

  In my flex application, I have a custom TitleWindow that pops up in modal fashion. When I resize the browser window, I get this warning: Warning: Filter will not render. The DisplayObject’s filtered dimensions (1286, 107374879) are too large to be drawn. Clearly, I have nothing set with a height of 107374879. After that, any time I mouse over anything in the Flash Player (v. 10), the CPU churns at 100%. When I close the TitleWindow, the problem subsides. Sadly, the warning doesn't seem to indicate which DisplayObject object is too large to draw. I've tried attaching explicit height/widths to the TitleWindow and the components within, but still no luck. [Edit] The plot thickens: I found that the problem only occures when I set the PopUpManager's createPopUp modal parameter to "true." I don't see the behavior when modal is set to "false." It's failing while applying the graying filter to other components that comes from being modal. Any ideas how I can track down the one object that has not been initialized but is being filter during the modal phase? Thanks for reading.

• Delphi - Message loop for Form created in DirectShow filter goes dead

  I have a DirectShow filter created with Delphi Pro 6 and the DSPACK direct show library. I'm running under windows XP. I've tried creating the form dynamically when the container class for the DirectFilter has its constructor called, passing NIL into the constructor as the AOwner parameter (TMyForm.Create(nil) and then calling the Form's Show() method. The form does show but then appears to stop receiving windows messages because it never repaints and does not respond to input. As a test I then tried creating my own WndProc() and overriding the Form's WndProc(). My WndProc() did get called once but never again. I'm guessing it's because I'm a DLL and the context that I am running in is not "friendly" to the window message handler for the form; perhaps something to do with the thread that calls it or whatever. If someone could give me a tip on how to solve this or what the proper way to create a persistent window is from the context of a DirectShow filter I'd appreciate it. Note, as I said the window needs to be persistent so I can't create it as a Filter property page. Thanks, Robert

• Exception Handling in ASP.NET MVC and Ajax - [HandleException] filter

  All, I'm learning MVC and using it for a business app (MVC 1.0). I'm really struggling to get my head around exception handling. I've spent a lot of time on the web but not found anything along the lines of what I'm after. We currently use a filter attribute that implements IExceptionFilter. We decorate a base controller class with this so all server side exceptions are nicely routed to an exception page that displays the error and performs logging. I've started to use AJAX calls that return JSON data but when the server side implementation throws an error, the filter is fired but the page does not redirect to the Error page - it just stays on the page that called the AJAX method. Is there any way to force the redirect on the server (e.g. a ASP.NET Server.Transfer or redirect?) I've read that I must return a JSON object (wrapping the .NET Exception) and then redirect on the client, but then I can't guarantee the client will redirect... but then (although I'm probably doing something wrong) the server attempts to redirect but then gets an unauthorised exception (the base controller is secured but the Exception controller is not as it does not inherit from this) Has anybody please got a simple example (.NET and jQuery code).   In Magento I'm creating a custom module and would love to be able to filter automatically by the datetime column so that the intial grid listing shows only entities related to "todays" date. Am I using the wrong filter? My "ts" field in the database is a "datetime" field, but the default magento "From: " - "To:" date range selectors don't use hours, minutes, seconds. Any ideas?   Hi all, I want my findbugs report not show the following error: DM_NUMBER_CTOR: Method invokes inefficient Number constructor; use static valueOf instead The problem is that this happens in groovy-generated code files, so I can't control the source code - that is why I want to exclude it and add it to my exclude filter. I do not want to add explicitly class (since I make API that many tools will use, I want my filter to be generic). I would not like to completely remove this bug from the report by type, I would really like to only exclude this bug from appearing if it happenned in "static initializer" methods. Any idea? • Stopping Filter Display in Dynamic Data Entity Web App

  I'm currently experimenting with the Dynamic Data Entity Web App Project type in VS2008 SP1 and after reading many tutorials which offer helpful advice for problems I so far have no need of a solution to I have fallen at the first hurdle. In the DB I have made my entity model from I decided to start small with a table called "Companies" just to see if I could tweak the display into a satisfactory shape for this small table. The Companies table has a column called "contactid" which leads to a record filled with various contact information in a "contacts" table. The default created Entity Data Model has guessed that One companies could have many contact records. So it tries to be helpful and add a "Contact" filter onto the page that allows you to see all the Companies that share a particular set of contact info indexed by the "Contact Name" field. Unfortunately the contact table is a multi-purpose one that also stores contact info for customers and there are about 1000 times more customers than there are companies. So the Dropdown makes the page load time increase exponentially and produces no benefit. So I'd like to just stop the filter from appearing. Only problem is I don't have a clue how to switch it off. Google is so far proving recalcitrant on the matter so I wondered if anyone in here knew how to get rid of a useless filter.

• Coloring Default Buttons - color filter only on unfocused state

  I want to buttons of different colors, but I want to do so while using the default button background resource in order to preserve the onfocus and onclick states. This is because I want to use the default highlight color of the OS for my app, which is NOT always orange (HTC Sense makes it green). I found that adding a color filter to the button's background drawable works great (in this case, blue): myButton.getBackground().setColorFilter(Color.parseColor(this.getString (R.color.button_blue)), Mode.MULTIPLY); BUT, when the button is focused or clicked, it turns a nasty orange_blue because it mixes the color filter with the orange of the background drawable. I want to ONLY set this color filter for the unfocused/unclicked nine- patch drawable within the default button's statelistdrawable. I'm not sure how else to do this. I see a similar solution here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2065430/fixed-android-detecting-fo... but I have some concerns with that solution, mainly what if the OS changes the graphic of the default button? Since the normal unfocused/ unpressed graphic is now hardcoded into the app, it would break the flow. Maybe can someone comment on whether it would be good or bad practice to hardcode the default graphic into the app? What are the chances of the OS completely changing the graphic? Any help please?   Is there a way to tell a JTable's row filter that it should update itself to display the filtered data? I'm currently using the fireTableDataChanged method in the AbstractTableModel but the underlying data for the table isn't actually changing, so this seems like it might be wasteful. The way my filter works is to check if data in the table is in some other list and only display it if it is in that list. So that other list changed and I need to tell the filter to refresh itself. Is fireTableDataChanged the correct way to do this? thanks, Jeff

  The company I work for provides testing services for the healthcare industry. As part of our services, we need to send email to our clients' employees. Typically, these are temp, part-time, or contract employees, and so have private email addresses (eg Hotmail, GMail, Yahoo!, etc). Up to now, we've been sending from an internal address, but this means that replies come back to us when employees aren't paying attention or don't know to send queries to our clients. I'd like to change this, so that the person who requests that the email is sent is the person that is replied to. We've used reply-to: in the past, but it seemed to cause additional mail to be trapped by spam filters. I've been reading about sender: and on-behalf-of: headers, and was wondering what the current best-practice was for sending email in a scenario where we need to send email such that the reply goes to a domain we don't control.

• Setting up DomainKeys/DKIM in a PHP-based SMTP client

  It looks like there are some great libraries out there to do DomainKeys signing of emails on C#/.NET, but I'm having a really hard time finding the same kind of support for PHP. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place? The only one I found is http://php-dkim.sourceforge.net/; it looks incredibly hacky and supports PHP4 only. Considering how popular PHP is, and how critical DomainKeys are for email classification as non-spam, I'd expect better tools; do you know of any? Any other tricks you'd recommend?
