• Copy SQL 2005 view result column headers?

  Is there a way to copy View output column headers along with the data? There is a setting in Options to include column headers with query results, but that only works with "New Query" and Stored Procedure output. Looks like SSMS 2008 has this functionality built in to the contextual menu when you right click on results, but I only have 2005. Am I out of luck? Thanks for any help.

  Since, I have written courses on MySQL, I quite often get emails about MySQL courses. Here is the question, which I have received quite often. “How do I loop queries in MySQL?” Well, currently MySQL does not allow to write loops with the help of ad-hoc SQL. You have to write stored procedure (routine) for the same. Here is the example, how we can create a procedure in MySQL which will look over the code. In this example I have used SELECT 1 statement and looped over it. In reality you can put there any code and loop over it. • MySQL – Export the Resultset to CSV file

  In SQL Server, you can use BCP command to export the result set to a csv file. In MySQL too, You can export data from a table or result set as a csv file in many methods. Here are two methods. Method 1 : Make use of Work Bench If you are using Work Bench as a querying tool, you can make use of it’s Export option in the result window. Run the following code in Work Bench SELECT db_names FROM mysql_testing; The result will be shown in the result windows. There is an option called “File”. Click on it and it will prompt you a window to save the result set (Screen shot attached to show how file option can be used). Choose the directory and type out the name of the file. Method 2 : Make use of OUTFILE command You can do the export using a query with OUTFILE command as shown below SELECT db_names FROM mysql_testing INTO OUTFILE 'C:/testing.csv' FIELDS ENCLOSED BY '"' TERMINATED BY ';' ESCAPED BY '"' LINES TERMINATED BY '\r\n'; After the execution of the above code, you can find a file named testing.csv in C drive of the server. • sql server 2005 instance unresponsive and all db's are 'in recovery'

  we've got a sql server 2005 instance that one of our guys messed up, i believe they killed the sql server service and restarted the computer, and when it came back all of our databases are "in recovery" and it times out every time we try to connect to it. it's been 'in recovery'and unable to connect to 'msbd' (also in recovery) whenever we try to use SSMC, for the last 4 days now. i'm unsure how to use the DBCC CHECKDB command to check the db integrity. we have backups(which we can't recover from because it keeps timing out), and it's a testing server, so nothing in production is really lost. is there any way to get it out of recovery mode? we have another sqlserver instance running that's just fine, but this instance keeps timing out. the errors i keep seeing are database msdb is being recovered. wait until recovery is finished and an exception occurred while executing a transact-sql statement or batch Timeout expired. any thoughts? we don't really have a DBA here, or anyone with much sql experience.

  We observed that sudden increase of SQL connections during a specific hour, it is a backend of a SharePoint 2007 Farm. From SharePoint 2007 Perspective: 1. Incremental crawling is scheduled at that time and few of the Timer jobs (normal timer jobs) are scheduled to run every mins / per 10mins. 2. Number of user requests are less. From SQL Server 2005 Perspective: 1. Transaction log backup is scheduled at that time 2. No other scheduled jobs are running at that time. so, how to narrow down the issue, what would be causing the sudden SQL connection increase?

• Kill Leaking Connections on SQL Server 2005

  We have a legacy ASP application that somewhere leaks SQL Connections. In Activity Monitor, I can see a bunch of idle processes with Last Batch times over an hour old. When I look at the T-SQL command batch, these are always FETCH API_CURSORXXX, which from my understanding is caused by improperly closed ASP ADO Recordsets. While we are try to pinpoint the offeding code, is there a way for me to monitor which requests open which cursors? I'm assuming profiler, but I'm not sure what I should be monitoring exactly. I can see a bunch of calls to sp_cursoropen but I don't see the API_CUSORXXX name anywhere. Second, would anyone be able to suggest a script we could run to kill these processes based on the Last Batch time 10 minutes and Last Batch Command being FETCH API_CURSORXXX? For various reasons, we unfortunately don't have any SQL Server DBAs.

Big Data Cycle Just like every other database related applications, bit data project have its development cycle. Though three Vs (link) for sure plays an important role in deciding the architecture of the Big Data projects. Just like every other project Big Data project also goes to similar phases of the data capturing, transforming, integrating, analyzing and building actionable reporting on the top of  the data. While the process looks almost same but due to the nature of the data the architecture is often totally different. Here are few of the question which everyone should ask before going ahead with Big Data architecture. Questions to Ask How big is your total database? What is your requirement of the reporting in terms of time – real time, semi real time or at frequent interval? How important is the data availability and what is the plan for disaster recovery? What are the plans for network and physical security of the data? What platform will be the driving force behind data and what are different service level agreements for the infrastructure? This are just basic questions but based on your application and business need you should come up with the custom list of the question to ask. As I mentioned earlier this question may look quite simple but the answer will not be simple. When we are talking about Big Data implementation there are many other important aspects which we have to consider when we decide to go for the architecture. Building Blocks of Big Data Architecture It is absolutely impossible to discuss and nail down the most optimal architecture for any Big Data Solution in a single blog post, however, we can discuss the basic building blocks of big data architecture. Here is the image which I have built to explain how the building blocks of the Big Data architecture works. Above image gives good overview of how in Big Data Architecture various components are associated with each other. In Big Data various different data sources are part of the architecture hence extract, transform and integration are one of the most essential layers of the architecture. Most of the data is stored in relational as well as non relational data marts and data warehousing solutions. As per the business need various data are processed as well converted to proper reports and visualizations for end users. Just like software the hardware is almost the most important part of the Big Data Architecture. In the big data architecture hardware infrastructure is extremely important and failure over instances as well as redundant physical infrastructure is usually implemented. NoSQL in Data Management NoSQL is a very famous buzz word and it really means Not Relational SQL or Not Only SQL. This is because in Big Data Architecture the data is in any format. It can be unstructured, relational or in any other format or from any other data source. To bring all the data together relational technology is not enough, hence new tools, architecture and other algorithms are invented which takes care of all the kind of data. • SQL Server 2005 jobs running twice in a row - using LiteSpeed

  Howdy! I have a SQL server (2005) backing up to a network share, who has a group of maintenance plans setup through LiteSpeed to backup different DBs. They were just set up to run two sub plans on different schedules for full/diff backups and did that just fine for a couple of months. Then I added "Clean Up" task to the subplans. Ever since that point, the backup creates another bak right after the first bak job is completed. I removed the clean up item from the subplan, and it still creates two baks when ran. Both the SQL Activity Monitor and the machine's windows application log show just one job being executed. I did this same thing to a couple of other servers backing up to the same location, and they are behaving correctly. Thoughts?

• SQL Server Express 2005 cannot connect

  hi all, I have a SQL Server Express 2005 install on a godaddy virtual terminal which currently is only connected to(locally with mgt studio) every few days or so. Every time i try to connect I get a cannot connect to SQL Server error and after a restart it I can connect just fine locally. I was wondering if there is a timeout setting or something that I am missing that I need to change so that if it is not connected to for a while it does not required a restart? any ideas? thanks!

• Where to set permissions to all server for logon trigger on sql server 2005

  I need to keep track of the last login time for each user in our SQL Server 2005 database. I created a trigger like this: CREATE TRIGGER LogonTimeStamp ON ALL SERVER FOR LOGON AS BEGIN IF EXISTS (SELECT * FROM miscdb..user_last_login WHERE user_id = SYSTEM_USER) UPDATE miscdb..user_last_login SET last_login = GETDATE() WHERE user_id = SYSTEM_USER ELSE INSERT INTO miscdb..user_last_login (user_id,last_login) VALUES (SYSTEM_USER,GETDATE()) END; go This trigger works for servers that are system admins but it won't allow regular users to login. I have granted public select,insert and update to the table but that doesn't seem to be the issue. Is there a way to set permissions on the trigger? Is there something else I am missing? Thanks

• SQL 2005 Log Shipping - Was working, now isnt!

  Hello, I had log shipping working between two SQL 2005 server fine. I suspect that a job was added to the source server which backed up the transaction log to disk (nothing to do with the existing log shipping job). As I understand it, if you do this then log shipping will fail to work. Sure enough, it no longer works. I've deleted the job which had just been created. Log shipping still does not work. I've rebooted both servers and, again, Log shipping does not work. I'm at a loss now... all I get is the folloing error: The log shipping secondary database XXXXXXXXXX has restore threshold of 45 minutes and is out of sync. No restore was performed for 5882 minutes. Restored latency is 15 minutes. Check agent log and logshipping monitor information. Any help appreciated! Thanks in advance.

• SQL Server 2005 SP3 Express Backups Incredibly Slow

  I'm attempting to troubleshoot an issue with one of our customers who's using SQL Server 2005 SP3 Express to house their application data. The automatic backups that we perform when upgrading our application are timing out after 30 minutes, and I've been sitting and watching the backup take place in SSMS for about 20 minutes now and it's only gotten to 30%. The database is only slightly over 1GB, so I'm baffled as to what could be causing this sort of horrible performance. The machine is a 1.87GHz Xeon with 3GB of RAM running Windows Server 2003 R2. While that's hardly a powerful box, this seems ridiculous. Does anyone have any idea why these backups could be taking so long and, more importantly, how I can do something about it?

• SSRS 2005 report manager link not coming up

  On my SQL Server 2005 installation. I am able to view the report server URL but I am unable to logon to the report manager URL. "http://servername/reports" I don't get any error message at all. Only thing is the page never loads and is in a hanged state. From the reporting services log folder, I am unable to see any useful messages getting logged in the log file. I also checked the IIS server logs and didn't get any useful information either. Have anyone of you experienced this before? Is there any way to fix this problem, please share your thoughts.

Every so often, I either get a new developer or need to deploy wide-scale schema changes to the production server. My main concern is deploying schema + data updates to developer machines from the "master" development copy. Is there some built-in functionality or tools for publishing schema + data in such a fashion? I'd like it to take as little time as possible. Can it be done from within SSMS?   I have created one user named "tuser" with create database rights in SQL server 2005. and given the 'db_owner' database role of master and msdb database to "tuser". From this user login when I run the script for create database then it will create new database. But "tuser" don't have access that newly created database generated from script. Any one have any idea?, I want to write the script so "tuser" have access that new created database after creation and can have add user permission of newly created database. I want to give 'db_owner' database roles to "tuser" on that newly created database in the same script which create new database. The script run under 'tuser'.

  I have a weird issue and I hope someone can steer me in the right direction for resolving this please. When I execute the following query against a linked server, I get the following error. I can connect to the server in SSMS as a separate server, and execute a similar query against its Deposits table. The nn.nn is my own replacement to avoid broadcasting our server addresses. The query: select td.Batch , td.DateTimeDeposited from Deposits cd left join [172.nn.nn.32\sqlexpress].Terminal.dbo.Deposits td on cd.DateTimeDeposited = td.DateTimeDeposited The error: OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "172.nn.nn.11\sqlexpress" returned message "Login timeout expired". OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "172.nn.nn.11\sqlexpress" returned message "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.". Msg 65535, Level 16, State 1, Line 0 SQL Network Interfaces: Error Locating Server/Instance Specified [xFFFFFFFF]. Notice how the error is about server 172.nn.nn.11 and not 172.nn.nn.32. SOLVED (STUPID ME): Somebody had added an extra bit to my query that was scrolled off-screen and was querying the 17.nn.nn.11 server.

  Hello, I'm getting the error "Invalid URI: The format of the URI could not be determined" when customizing it. I've made several changes to the configuration files and UI, but I keep getting this error. It isn't logging it too in the event log nor the log files, which makes it very annoying to debug. So how do I figure out where the error is coming from? Is it with the URL that's pointing to the ReportServer2005.asmx file, or something else?
