Self-extracting Delphi program

I'm writing an updater program in Delphi7 which will be run once, but needs many files to run. What I'd like the achieve: 1, User runs exe 2, Exe unpacks files, runs updater 3, If updater detects and error, prompts the user to send log in e-mail 4, After the updater is run, temporary files are deleted (some of these files are dlls used by the updater program, so the updater has to be closed before the files can be deleted) Can anyone recommend a good solution? I've thought about using Inno Setup (too complicated for such an easy task) or using a self-extracting zip file (but how to delete the files afterwards)? Thanks!

PhoneGap's vibrate() and beep() functions break in iPhone, Android emulators

I have a PhoneGap app that I'm testing on webOS, Android, and iPhone. I'm using physical devices as well as emulators (the ones that come with their respective SDKs, not the PhoneGap emulator). Part of the code uses the navigator.notification.vibrate() and navigator.notification.beep() functions. All the physical devices I'm using either perform the behavior or ignore it if they're not capable (e.g., the iPod can't vibrate). However, the emulators behave differently. The Android emulator kills the app whenever the beep() function is called. The iPhone emulator causes the app to hang whenever the vibrate() function is called. Is there any way to get the emulators to ignore those function calls when they are unable to execute them? That is, is there a way to get them to degrade gracefully so I can test the app both places without having to modify the code specifically for the emulators?

I just want the TFS 2008 to generate only the Deploy Folder and Not the Web Folder. Silverlight Scrollable Content Problem

I am fairy new to Silverlight and I have a problem. I have a grid on a page that is resizable when the user resizes their browser window. In one of the grids columns I want to display dynamically added content that is scrollable, as there is more data than space available. I currently have a scrollViewer with a stack panel inside it, that i programmatically add a user control to and then several user controls to that control depending on the amount of content. My problem is this. The scrollViewer does not respect the available space and as such displays its content outside of the viewable area when there is more data than space. i.e. it does not uses it is not scrollable nature. Hopefully this is something simple that I have missed, but i am banging my head against the wall at the moment. Any help gratefully received.

Can I store SQL Server sort order in a variable?

I have the following SQL within a stored procedure. Is there a way to remove the IF statement and pass the 'ASC'/'DESC' option as a variable? I know I could do the query a number of different ways, or return a table and sort it externally etc. I would just like to know if I can avoid duplicating the CASE statement. Dynamic checkboxlist

Hi, I am currently building a dynamic url tab system that user can say what urls they want to be displayed on a tabpage control. In the database i have the following columns. userID, int URLName var Enabled bit I am pulling the data back ok but what i am trying do is populate a checkbox list with the urlname and its status on a user options page so they can say what tabs they want displayed. I have wrote the following methods to get the urls and create the checkboxes however i keep getting the following error. ex = {"InvalidArgument=Value of '1' is not valid for 'index'.\r\nParameter name: index"} It reads the first row ok but when it hits the 2nd row that is being returned i get that error. Has anyone got any ideas? How do you compile an OpenGL program on Ubuntu?

I'm a Ubuntu user who is interested in learning OpenGL. I found a page with some samples on it: http://www.opengl.org/resources/code/samples/glut_examples/examples/examples.html but when I try to compile the first one using: cc -o abgr abgr.c -lglut -lGLU -lGL -lXmu -lXext -lX11 -lm I get an error message saying: /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lXmu collect2: ld returned 1 exit status What is "lXmu"? How do I get this to compile? I'm 15 years old and new to computer programming. Thanks!

RestSharp post object to WCF

Im having an issue posting an object to my wcf rest webservice. On the WCF side I have the following: [WebInvoke(UriTemplate = "", Method = "POST")] public void Create(myObject object) { //save some stuff to the db } When im debugging this never gets hit - it does however get hit when I remove the parameter so im guessing ive done something wrong on the restSharp side of things. Heres my code for that part: var client = new RestClient(ApiBaseUri); var request = new RestRequest(Method.POST); request.RequestFormat = DataFormat.Xml; request.AddBody(myObject); var response = client.Execute(request); Am I doing this wrong? How can the WCF side see my object? What way should I be making the reqest? Or should I be handling it differently WCF side? Things ive tried: request.AddObject(myObject); and request.AddBody(request.XmlSerialise.serialise(myObject)); Any help and understanding in what could possibly be wrong would be much appreciated. viewDidLoad never called in Sub-classed UIViewController

I've run into some trouble with loading a sub-classed UIViewController from a nib. My viewDidLoad function is never called. The super-class has no nib, but the sub-classes each have their own. i.e. @interface SuperClass : UIViewController { } @end @interface SubClass : SuperClass{ } @end @implementation SubClass - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil { self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil]; if (self) { } return self; } - (void)viewDidLoad{ // Never called } The view is loaded from a nib as follows: SubClass *scvc = [[SubClass alloc] initWithNibName:@"SubClass" bundle:nil]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:scvc animated:YES]; [scvc release]; There is a nib file with this name and it has it's file owner's class set properly. viewDidLoad is not called in the child or super. Any ideas?

ideas for algorithm? sorting a list randomly with emphasis on variety

I have a table of items with [ID,ATTR1,ATTR2,ATTR3]. I'd like to select about half of the items, but try to get a random result set that is NOT clustered. In other words, there's a fairly even spread of ATTR1 values, ATTR2 values, and ATTR3 values. This does NOT necessarily represent the data as a whole, in other words, the total table may be generally concentrated on certain attribute values, but I'd like to select a subset with more variety. The attributes are not inter-related, so there's not really a correlation between ATTR1 and ATTR2. Any ideas for an efficient algorithm? Thanks! I don't really even know how to search for this :)

Windows 7 etc/hosts file entry - forgot what ::1 is for

Using iis7, windows 7, asp.net 3.5. I have in my hosts file 127.0.0.1 mysite ::1 mysite I forgot why I added the ::1, but I think it was important. Anyone know what the second line is for? Thanks in advance. Edit One more question. What happens if I leave it out? The web site I'm working on doesn't address via IPv6, at least, not that I know of.

How do I track down sporadic ASP.NET performance problems in a production environment?

I've had sporadic performance problems with my website for awhile now. 90% of the time the site is very fast. But occasionally it is just really, really slow. I mean like 5-10 seconds load time kind of slow. I thought I had narrowed it down to the server I was on so I migrated everything to a new dedicated server from a completely different web hosting company. But the problems continue. I guess what I'm looking for is a good tool that'll help me track down the problem, because it's clearly not the hardware. I'd like to be able to log certain events in my ASP.NET code and have that same logger also track server performance/resources at the time. If I can then look back at the logs then I can see what exactly my website was doing at the time of extreme slowness. Is there a .NET logging system that'll allow me to make calls into it with code while simultaneously tracking performance? What would you recommend?

Inno Setup install for another user

When a user has restricted rights on his/her computer and runs my Inno Setup installer, Windows pop-up an administrator login prompt. The problem is that when the administrator types in his/her username and password and logs-in, Inno Setup thinks that he or she is the logged in user and installs my app for that user instead of the original one. (I'm installing files in the {userappdata} dir) Is there a way to overcome this limitation and install for the original restricted user?

Viewing an EXE File

I was attempting to install an exe that requires a serial number before the install, which the vendor has not provided to us yet. This got my wheels turning about whether there is any information that can be gained from viewing an exe using a hex editor/VI/etc? Using VI to view an exe, I can see some sections of plain text, but it is difficult to determine what it refers to without any context around it. Is it possible to determine any information by reading an exe? Thanks

CodePage ID to CodaPage name: GetEncoding equivalent in Delphi?

Hello all, I'm looking for a Win32 equivalent of the .Net Encoding.GetEncoding Method to be used in Delphi7. What I would like to achieve is to convert a Codepage ID (ie.: 28592) to a Codapage name (iso-8859-2 in this case). Must all Concurrent Data Store (CDB) locks be explicitly released when closing a Berkeley DB?

I have an application that comprises multiple processes each accessing a single Berkeley DB Concurrent Data Store (CDB) database. Each process is single-threaded and does no explicit locking of the database. When each process terminates normally, it calls DB-close() and DB_ENV-close(). When all processes have terminated, there should be no locks on the database. Episodically, however, the database behaves as if some process was holding a write-lock on it even though all processes have terminated normally. Does each process need to explicitly release all locks before calling DB_ENV-close()? If so, how does the process obtain the "locker" parameter for the call to DB_ENV-loc_vec()?

How to set Delphi WebBrowser Base directory different that HTML location

I have a Delphi program that creates HTML files. Later when a button is pressed a TWebBrowser is created and a WebBrowser.Navigate causes the html page to display. Is there anyway to set the WebBrowser "default directory" so it will always be the location of the Delphi executable not the HTML file? I do not want to set the Base value in the HTML to a hardcoded value because then when the HTML is ran from another Delphi exe they are not found. for example: if the exe is run from D:\data\delphi\pgm.exe then the base location D:\data\delphi\ and the jpgs are at D:\data\delphi\jpgs\ but if the exe is run from: C:\stuff\pgm.exe i want the base location to be C:\stuff\ and the jpgs to be at C:\stuff\jpgs\ So I cannot write a line in the HTML with the base location since when it is ran from another exe it would point to wrong location for that exe. So I either need to set the base location when I create the webbrowser and before I read the HTML or I need a way to pass into the webbrowser the location where I can then set the base location. Sorry for being so long-winded but I could not figure out how to saw what I needed.

Is there a way to get a test results and coverage html report from MSTest

I'd like to be able to produce a HTML based report from the Results.trx and data.coverage files that MSTest creates. Ideally this would just list any failures, and show some basic coverage stats. Does anyone know of a tool that does this?
