  • System Account Logon Failures ever 30 seconds

    - by floyd
We have two Windows 2008 R2 SP1 servers running in a SQL failover cluster. On one of them we are getting the following events in the security log every 30 seconds. The parts that are blank are actually blank. Has anyone seen similar issues, or assist in tracking down the cause of these events? No other event logs show anything relevant that I can tell. • How do I bypass pkgadd signature verification?

    - by Brian Knoblauch
Trying to install CollabNet Subversion Client on Solaris x64, but I'm hung up with: ## Verifying signature for signer <Alexander Thomas(AT)> pkgadd: ERROR: Signature verification failed while verifying certificate <subject=Alexander Thomas(AT), issuer=Alexander Thomas(AT)>:<self signed certificate>. Any way to just bypass the certificate check? None of the options listed in the man page seemed appropriate.

  • Understanding: cloud-server, cloud-hosting, cloud-computing, the cloud

    - by Abel
There's a lot of buzz about these subjects and there seems little consensus on the terms. Is that just me not understanding the subject, or is there a clear meaning for each of these terms? Are there more elaborate terms or descriptions that describe what a cloud provider has, is or offers? EDIT: rewritten question, apparently it was unclear, partially due to the bloat I added.

  • OpenNMS monitoring SAP

    - by HannesFostie
I was wondering if anyone had any experience plugging SAP into their OpenNMS installation. Mostly looking for experiences, perhaps Nagios comparisons, or some more concrete information on what is being monitored and how you did it. Go into as much details as you like. I am currently in the process of evaluating both Nagios and OpenNMS and the possibilities with SAP might be the deciding factor here. Sadly, I didn't find a whole lot on google on the subject.

Every week I have to do the same report for my bosses. Our bug tracker sends us emails, and to be sure I caught everything I often need to search Outlook for all the bug email's I've received. If I could search the email subject using a regular exrpession, my life would be much easier. Can I search my inbox using a regular expression in Outlook 2003?

All I know about the ntp server for now is that it comes from here I would greatly appreciate if any of you have some experience to share on this.

  • How does the linux update manager work?

    - by Mr.Student
I want to know how the update manager for linux works. For instance, how does my linux distro check to see if there are any available updates for download and which servers to download these updates? If I am dealing with 3rd party software not apart of the main distro, how do those programs interact with my update manager to notify me that those programs have available updates? Lastly what would be some good literature on the subject?

  • SMTP authentication error using PHPMailer

    - by Javier
I am using PHPMailer to send a basic form to an email address but I get the following error: SMTP Error: Could not authenticate. Message could not be sent. Mailer Error: SMTP Error: Could not authenticate. SMTP server error: VXNlcm5hbWU6 The weird thing is that if I try to send it again, IT WORKS! Every time I submit the form after that first error it works. But if I leave it for a few minutes and then try again I get the same error again. The username and password have to be right as sometimes it works fine. I even created the following (very basic) script just to test it and I got the same result <?php require("phpmailer/class.phpmailer.php"); $mail = new PHPMailer(); $mail->IsSMTP(); $mail->Host = "smtp.host.com"; $mail->SMTPAuth = true; $mail->Username = "[email protected]"; $mail->Password = "password"; $mail->From = "[email protected]"; $mail->FromName = "From Name"; $mail->AddAddress("[email protected]"); $mail->AddReplyTo("[email protected]"); $mail->IsHTML(true); $mail->Subject = "Here is the subject"; $mail->Body = "This is the HTML message body <b>in bold!</b>"; $mail->AltBody = "This is the body in plain text for non-HTML mail clients"; if(!$mail->Send()) { echo "Message could not be sent. <p>"; echo "Mailer Error: " . $mail->ErrorInfo; exit; } echo "Message has been sent"; ?> I don't think this is relevant, but I just changed my hosting to a Linux shared server. Any idea why this is happening? Thanks! ***UPDATED 02/06/2012 I've been doing some tests. The results: I tested the script in an IIS server and it worked fine. The error seems to happen only in the Linux server. Also, if I use the gmail mail server it works fine in both, IIS and Linux. Could it be a problem with the configuration of my Linux server??

  • Detecting upload success/failure in a scripted command-line SFTP session?

    - by Will Martin
I am writing a BASH shell script to upload all the files in a directory to a remote server and then delete them. It'll run every few hours via a CRON job. My complete script is below. The basic problem is that the part that's supposed to figure out whether the file uploaded successfully or not doesn't work. The SFTP command's exit status is always "0" regardless of whether the upload actually succeeded or not. How can I figure out whether a file uploaded correctly or not so that I can know whether to delete it or let it be? #!/bin/bash # First, save the folder path containing the files. FILES=/home/bob/theses/* # Initialize a blank variable to hold messages. MESSAGES="" ERRORS="" # These are for notifications of file totals. COUNT=0 ERRORCOUNT=0 # Loop through the files. for f in $FILES do # Get the base filename BASE=`basename $f` # Build the SFTP command. Note space in folder name. CMD='cd "Destination Folder"\n' CMD="${CMD}put ${f}\nquit\n" # Execute it. echo -e $CMD | sftp -oIdentityFile /home/bob/.ssh/id_rsa [email protected] # On success, make a note, then delete the local copy of the file. if [ $? == "0" ]; then MESSAGES="${MESSAGES}\tNew file: ${BASE}\n" (( COUNT=$COUNT+1 )) # Next line commented out for ease of testing #rm $f fi # On failure, add an error message. if [ $? != "0" ]; then ERRORS="${ERRORS}\tFailed to upload file ${BASE}\n" (( ERRORCOUNT=$ERRORCOUNT+1 )) fi done SUBJECT="New Theses" BODY="There were ${COUNT} files and ${ERRORCOUNT} errors in the latest batch.\n\n" if [ "$MESSAGES" != "" ]; then BODY="${BODY}New files:\n\n${MESSAGES}\n\n" fi if [ "$ERRORS" != "" ]; then BODY="${BODY}Problem files:\n\n${ERRORS}" fi # Send a notification. echo -e $BODY | mail -s $SUBJECT [email protected] Due to some operational considerations that make my head hurt, I cannot use SCP. The remote server is using WinSSHD on windows, and does not have EXEC privileges, so any SCP commands fail with the message "Exec request failed on channel 0". The uploading therefore has to be done via the interactive SFTP command.

I'm currently running a single Dell 24" (2408WFP) screen, but am considering adding a second. The problem I've got is that I'm currently using the DVI connector to the on board graphics, so will need to purchase a new graphics card. The 2408WFP also has HDMI and DisplayPort inputs, so I was wondering if DisplayPort is worth considering at present over DVI? On the same subject, does anyone actually manufacture reasonably priced DisplayPort cards - all I've managed to find seem to very expensive workstation cards aimed at financial/design/simulation markets.

  • Using curl -s in *nix command line not working for some reason

    - by JM4
I am trying to install composer (though to be honest I really have no idea how it fully works and documentation seems to be quite poor) on my MediaTemple DV machine. I am using their [instructions][1] Trying to install globally using: $ curl -s https://getcomposer.org/installer | php My command line (again using putty and logged into my server as root) thinks for a second, then sets up for next prompt. I run a simple ls -l to check for the file it should have downloaded with no luck. Any idea what could be causing the issue? I have tested and do in fact have curl installed. UPDATE 1 Based on the first answer, the verbose response is: > $ curl -vs https://getcomposer.org/installer | php > * About to connect() to getcomposer.org port 443 > * Trying 37.59.4.156... connected > * Connected to getcomposer.org (37.59.4.156) port 443 > * successfully set certificate verify locations: > * CAfile: /etc/pki/tls/certs/ca-bundle.crt CApath: none > * SSLv2, Client hello (1): SSLv3, TLS handshake, Server hello (2): SSLv3, TLS handshake, CERT (11): SSLv3, TLS handshake, Server key > exchange (12): SSLv3, TLS handshake, Server finished (14): SSLv3, TLS > handshake, Client key exchange (16): SSLv3, TLS change cipher, Client > hello (1): SSLv3, TLS handshake, Finished (20): SSLv3, TLS change > cipher, Client hello (1): SSLv3, TLS handshake, Finished (20): SSL > connection using DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA > * Server certificate: > * subject: /C=CH/CN=dl.packagist.org/[email protected] > * start date: 2012-07-07 23:25:35 GMT > * expire date: 2013-07-10 02:55:12 GMT > * SSL: certificate subject name 'dl.packagist.org' does not match target host name 'getcomposer.org' > * Closing connection #0 > * SSLv3, TLS alert, Client hello (1): > > > [1]: http://getcomposer.org/doc/00-intro.md

  • use a SATA to USB cable with MacBook Pro optical drive?

    - by Ben Alpert
Is there something fundamentally different about hard drives and optical drives regarding how they communicate with the computer? I ordered a SATA to USB adapter from Monoprice and I want to know whether it will work with an SATA optical drive removed from a MacBook Pro. Can anyone shed some light on the subject?

  • Postfix: Relay access denied

    - by Joseph Silvashy
When I telnet to my server thats running postfix and try to send an email: MAIL FROM:<[email protected]> #=> 250 2.1.0 Ok RCPT TO:<[email protected]> #=> 554 5.7.1 <[email protected]>: Relay access denied I couldn't really find the answer on the site or by looking at other users question/answers, I'm not sure where to start. Ideas? Update So basically looking at the docs: http://www.postfix.org/SMTPD_ACCESS_README.html (section: Getting selective with SMTP access restriction lists), I don't seem to have any of those directives in etc/postfix/main.cf like smtpd_client_restrictions = permit_mynetworks, reject or any of the other ones, so I'm quite confused. But really I'm going to have a rails app connect to the server and send the emails, so I'm not sure how to handle it. Here is what my config file looks like: # See /usr/share/postfix/main.cf.dist for a commented, more complete version # Debian specific: Specifying a file name will cause the first # line of that file to be used as the name. • Which EC2 instance best for Chef server?

    - by hakunin
I want to setup chef server as cheaply as possible, while leaving it enough room to run without crashing. The only article I found on the subject warned that RabbitMQ would crash on a micro instance due to insufficient memory. The question is: what's the cheapest EC2 instance that can run chef server reliably, considering that I don't use CouchDB or RabbitMQ for anything else in my app, so would probably have to set them up exclusively for chef server on that same instance.

  • Gmail rejects emails. Openspf.net fails the tests

    - by pablomedok
I've got a problem with Gmail. It started after one of our trojan infected PCs sent spam for one day from our IP address. We've fixed the problem, but we got into 3 black lists. We've fixed that, too. But still every time we send an email to Gmail the message is rejected: So I've checked Google Bulk Sender's guide once again and found an error in our SPF record and fixed it. Google says everything should become fine after some time, but this doesn't happen. 3 weeks already passed but we still can't send emails to Gmail. Our MX setup is a bit complex, but not too much: We have a domain name delo-company.com, it has it's own mail @delo-company.com (this one is fine, but the problems are with sub-domain name corp.delo-company.com). Delo-company.com domain has several DNS records for the subdomain: corp A 82.209.198.147 corp MX 20 corp.delo-company.com corp.delo-company.com TXT "v=spf1 ip4:82.209.198.147 ~all" (I set ~all for testing purposes only, it was -all before that) These records are for our corporate Exchange 2003 server at 82.209.198.147. Its LAN name is s2.corp.delo-company.com so its HELO/EHLO greetings are also s2.corp.delo-company.com. To pass EHLO check we've also created some records in delo-company.com's DNS: s2.corp A 82.209.198.147 s2.corp.delo-company.com TXT "v=spf1 ip4:82.209.198.147 ~all" As I understand SPF verifications should be passed in this way: Out server s2 connects to MX of the recepient (Rcp.MX): EHLO s2.corp.delo-company.com Rcp.MX says Ok, and makes SPF check of HELO/EHLO. It does NSlookup for s2.corp.delo-company.com and gets the above DNS-records. TXT records says that s2.corp.delo-company.com should be only from IP 82.209.198.147. So it should be passed. Then our s2 server says RCPT FROM: Rcp.MX` server checks it, too. The values are the same so they should also be positive. Maybe there is also a rDNS check, but I'm not sure what is checked HELO or RCPT FROM. Our PTR record for 82.209.198.147 is: 147.198.209.82.in-addr.arpa. 86400 IN PTR s2.corp.delo-company.com. To me everything looks fine, but anyway all emails are rejected by Gmail. So, I've checked MXtoolbox.com - it says everything is fine, I passed http://www.kitterman.com/spf/validate.html Python check, I did 25port.com email test. It's fine, too: Return-Path: <[email protected]> Received: from s2.corp.delo-company.com (82.209.198.147) by verifier.port25.com id ha45na11u9cs for <[email protected]>; Fri, 2 Mar 2012 13:03:21 -0500 (envelope-from <[email protected]>) Authentication-Results: verifier.port25.com; spf=pass [email protected] Authentication-Results: verifier.port25.com; domainkeys=neutral (message not signed) [email protected] Authentication-Results: verifier.port25.com; dkim=neutral (message not signed) Authentication-Results: verifier.port25.com; sender-id=pass [email protected] Content-class: urn:content-classes:message MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="----_=_NextPart_001_01CCF89E.BE02A069" Subject: test Date: Fri, 2 Mar 2012 21:03:15 +0300 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft Exchange V6.5 Message-ID: <[email protected]> X-MS-Has-Attach: X-MS-TNEF-Correlator: Thread-Topic: test Thread-Index: Acz4jS34oznvbyFQR4S5rXsNQFvTdg== From: =?koi8-r?B?89XQ0tXOwMsg8MHXxcw=?= <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> I also checked with [email protected], but it FAILs all the time, no matter which SPF records I make: <s2.corp.delo-company.com #5.7.1 smtp;550 5.7.1 <[email protected]>: Recipient address rejected: SPF Tests: Mail-From Result="softfail": Mail From="[email protected]" HELO name="s2.corp.delo-company.com" HELO Result="softfail" Remote IP="82.209.198.147"> I've filled Gmail form twice, but nothing happens. We do not send spam, only emails for our clients. 2 or 3 times we did mass emails (like New Year Greetings and sales promos) from corp.delo-company.com addresses, but they where all complying to Gmail Bulk Sender's Guide (I mean SPF, Open Relays, Precedence: Bulk and Unsubscribe tags). So, this should be not a problem. Please, help me. What am I doing wrong? UPD: I also tried Unlocktheinbox.com test and the server also fails this test. Here is the result: http://bit.ly/wYr39h . • Sendmail SMART_HOST not working

    - by daniel
Hello, I've defined SMART_HOST to be a specific server, lets call it foo.bar.com. However, when I send a test mail using 'sendmail -t', sendmail tries to use mx.bar.com, which subsequently rejects my mail. I've verified that foo.bar.com works and that mx.bar.com does not work (yay telnet). I've recompiled sendmail.mc vi make, make -C and m4. I've verified the DS entry in sendmail.cf. I've restarted sendmail correctly. I'm not sure how to proceed at this point. Any ideas? Here is my SMART_HOST line: define(SMART_HOST',foo.bar.com')dnl ...and here is the result of a test mail.
