• What do we need for flash 10 development?

  Hi, I'm looking to do some development in flash 10, specifically for the new file api (reading/writing files on the user's local machine). What do I need to develop for flash 10, just Flash cs4?: http://tryit.adobe.com/us/cs4/flash/c/?sdid=ETJMX& or is there some other ide? All I'm really interested in doing is: Make a small swf file which reads a file on the user's machine I will host it in an html file When file read is done, I just want to send its contents as a string to a javascript function for further processing. Not sure if I can get away with the free adobe air thing for this? I need it to run in a webpage but I don't intend to do any more development outside of the above, Thanks

• Import ResultEvent in Flash

  Hey, I would like to import the Flex class ResultEvent in Flash. This is how I did it: 1. In "Publish Settings/Flash/ActionScrip 3.0 Settings/Library Path" I selected the rpc.swf (from the flex sdk) 2. Then I wrote in my flash-file: import mx.rpc.ResultEvent; But i still get the following error: 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: ResultEvent.   Hi I am trying to host a flash object inside an CAxWindow, I have managed to insert a shockwaveflash (SWF) and its working fine. I am trying to find all available API's that are available in the flash ocx. I am unable to find any documentation for the functions in the IShockwaveFlash interface. I know that Adobe doesn't have a documentation for using flash in VC++ but I was wondering if anyone can point me to a place where I can find an UNOFFICIAL documentation for flash.ocx or code samples as the only API that I could find and I'm currently using is "PutMovie". Any help is appreciated...

• sIFR3 smoothing and IE

  Hi, i've started to use sIFR3. I don't know how to turn on smoothing of font. Do i need to change it in my font.swf file? In FF3 it work perfect, everything is okay, but when i turn on my IE8, nothing changes. Even live example doesn't work (http://work.likeaninja.co.uk/sifr/demo/). What's going on? My Flash Player is "WIN 10,1,51,95" (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html). I thinks it's beta, but it shouldn't change anything. Help!

• Flex 3 and flash player caching

  hi, i pass text strings from a configuration file into my Flex app, one of the strings i pass in is a mailto link which i use to allow users of my app to send me feedback. I recently needed to change this link however when i updated the link in my config file the change did not happen instantly in my Flex app. In fact i had to clear my cache (both browser and flash player) before the change showed up. This of course is fine for me but how can i be sure that users of the application also get the updated content? Is there a way to force a refresh of data loaded into my swf on other users browsers? Finally is this an issue with my browser cache or the Flash player cache? Does the flash player only keep such data, like my email address, in memory while the app is in use and then clear once it is closed or does it cache this data for the next time the user wants to use the app?   I have a series of equirectangular images. I'd like to display them in a custom Flash player so that the user could see the spherical nature of the images, and "look up", "look down", "look left/right" (or pan, zoom, etc). (Note that I have a long series of images, so the library must allow for dynamic loading of the images themselves, rather than having the images "baked" into the SWF player.) What is the best library to manage the display of the equirectangular images in Flash? By "best", I mean the most mature, most reliable, most robust, and fastest performing. • How to prevent button/movieclip from interfering with mouse events

  I have a few swf's that are loaded into a base file using levels. These clips can be cycled through by means of a setInterval function or when the user clicks the next or previous button. However, when the user hovers over a defined 'hit' area which is ultimately a blank movie clip, the setTimeout call is then canceled. This works fine, except that now the 'hit' clip - being above everything - prevents the movies below accepting hit states, and if I move it to below everything else, when one mouses over any element in the loaded movie, it then acts as though the user has mouse out of the hit area. Is there any way to have this 'hit' clip do its job simply by determining if the mouse is over it, but without using an onRollOver function or equivalent? Much appreciated

• How do I load multiple FLV files, with the same COMPLETE event handler?

  When loading files with the Loader in ActionScript 3, I am able to inspect the event attribute on the complete event handler to determine what the URL is for the file that has completed downloading. Loader exposes a variable in the event handler attribute: event.target.url which I means that when the handler returns, I can easily determine which file is loading. However, my client has sent numerous FLV files built in After Effects that constitute the UI elements of a Flash application built for them. Loading FLV files require the use of URLLoader, and this does not appear to expose the name of the file being loaded. So I either need to convert the FLV's to SWF, so I can load them as normal. Is there a way to determine the URL inside the onComplete event handler fired by URLLoader?

Since I don't want scrollbar in my flex widget i am increasing the height of SWF through javascript, which increases with each addition of row in my datagrid. My query is how can I get the exact height of my VBox which is the parent element of datagrid. I am not able to get the height of VBox. I have tried to use measuredHeight,height with no success.   I want to build an ant script that does exactly the same compilation actions on a Flash Builder 4 (Gumbo) project as the Project->Export Release Build... menu item does. My ant-fu is reasonably strong, that's not the issue, but rather I'm not sure exactly what that entry is doing. Some details: I'll be using the 3.x SDK (say, 3.2 for the sake of specificity) to build this. I'll be building on a Mac, and I can happily use ant, make, or some weird shell script stuff if that's the way you roll. Any useful optimizations you can suggest will be welcome. The project contains a few assets, MXML and actionscript source, and a couple of .swcs that are built into the project (not RSL'd) Can someone provide an ant build.xml or makefle that they use to build a release .swf file from a similar Flex project?

• Portfolio problem on a flash template

  Hi guys! I have another question about the same template as before. in my website. (www.nikstudio.cl) I need to show in the webpage's portfolio (menu "trabajos") show a few pictures. If you click the thumbnail picture you can see the full size version of that thumbnail. My problem are two: First the picture one and two are the same as five a six ( and i can't change it cause i don't find the place to do this.) And the second is when I copy and paste (in a new layer) of the movieclip "sprite 656" i get in the swf a new picture on the portfolio but i can't click it.   Hi, my question referenced to my friend. I am trying to use jquery to show flash videos(swf) like a showcase and this is what I am trying to do: Show a video by default and then have "" below that so when an user click on prev or next, it will show the next one and so on. When a video is clicked after making the selection it can either open the video on top of it in a bigger size Or play the video once right there once they click the play button. I have seen examples for images and I tried those but it did not work with flash files. Please let me know if anyone can guide me. I prefer using jquery as there are applications on the site that uses jquery. Also, I just remembered one thing, how to stop the video if they navigate to the next one. This makes me think if its a good idea to do the gallery or showcase for flash videos. Please clarify my questions. thanks

I imported the sound into the library, but I believe that it's reloading it from the folder with the swf/sound. I tried just wrapping the object element with an a like this: <a href="http://whatever.com"> <object ...> <embed ... /> </object> </a> In Internet Explorer, that made it show the location in the status bar like a link, but it doesn't do anything. I just have the .swf file, so I can't add a click handler in ActionScript.

I've tried the following (and profuse google-ing): In source of page on http://fakesite1.com/player.jsp: <embed src = "FlashPlayer.swf?file=http://fakesite2.net/video.flv" /> I can browse to http://fakesite2.net/video.flv and ensure it's there, but the player comes back "movie not loaded" (on right-click) on fakesite1. My initial guess is that this might be some sort of security feature... is it possible to play a video hosted on a remote site?

  Just by messing around a little it seems that the video stream is not ascii. i tested by downloading the stream. It would be insane if it was. Theres so many videos. So that couldnt be it. Youtube seems to not work with javascript disable (not counting mobile if true). How is it being done? is it javascript magic? is the SWF running the video through a filter in realtime? (I doubt its a native filter so how is the filter compiled) its really cool. I cant imagine how this is running realtime yet it is!

At the moment I don't see it in any implementation of html5 video player. The real problem I am trying to solve is to have a way of knowing % of downloaded asset (image/swf/video whatever). In flash its easy by using MovieClipLoader and bytesLoaded property. Is there any way of doing it in HTML/HTML5/Javascript (without relying on Flash) ? Thanks!

  I need an easy way to show different document-types (.doc, .xls, .jpg...) in webpages. Ideally a user prints or saves that document and that document is automatically converted to Adobe-Flash. I know there are existing solutions to this. However, I would like to implement them in my own application, written in C#.
