• ASP.NET and VB.NET OleDbConnection Problem

  I'm working on an ASP.NET website where I am using an asp:repeater with paging done through a VB.NET code-behind file. I'm having trouble with the database connection though. As far as I can tell, the paging is working, but I can't get the data to be certain. The database is a Microsoft Access database. • Drop Down Box and other stuff in ASP.NET with VB.NET (VS 2008)

  Hi all, I am trying to polish up a program a program that I have converted from a Windows Form in to an ASP.NET Web Application. I have several questions: 1.) I have a drop down box where users can select their variables, but users can also enter their variables manually into various text fields. What I want is for the drop down box to show a string like "Choose Variables" when ever the user enters their variables manually. I want this to happen without having to reload the page. 2.) In the Windows Form version of this application I had a RichTextBox that populated with data (line by line) after a calculation was made. I used "AppendText" in my Windows Form, but that is not available in ASP.NET, and neither is the RichTextBox. I am open to suggestions here, I tried to use just a text box but that isn't working right. 3.) In my Windows Form application I was using "KeyPress" events to prevent incorrect characters from being entered into the text fields. Is it a bug (I'm using the latest .Net Framework 4.0, and he same occurs in 2.0), or am I doing something wrong here? Is there a work around? Thanks! EDIT: Additionally, the MouseDoubleClick event is not raised before you click once again.

  Hi, I have upgraded my web application from 3.5 to 4.0 to get benefits of the new features of ASP.NET 4.0. When i try to get Route Data Values; Page.RouteData.Values["customerId"] with this code i couldn't reach the RouteData.Values collection the Page class doesnt contain a member called routedata. I also have the same issue with Response.RedirectPermanent... What might be the reason ? Thanks in advance

• Mail reaches only after closing connection

  I have setup a postfix mail server with saslauthd. I telnet from a windows machine to send a mail. All works fine, I even get the msg 250 Mail queued for delivery. On the mailserver I see connect msgs on /var/log/mail.log for connection but not for the mail queuing or delivery. Only after I close the telnet connection I get all the valid msgs in mail.log. The mail also doesnt arrive in my Maildir/new directory until I close the connection. I am very new to Ubuntu, any pointers will be much appreciated. Many thanks.

• Attachment empty/blank when sending mail using phpmailer

  Hello! I am using phpmailer class to send email and i am attaching a file to the mail. The email is sent successfully but the attachment which is an sql file is empty which should not be the case. I have tried with an image file, but it seems that every file that i attach is empty. Now it will have more cleaner html there are lots of enhancement for rendering html controls in asp.net 4.0 now all controls like Menu, List View and other controls renders more cleaner html. But recently i have faced strange problem in rendering controls I have my site in asp.net 3.5 and i want to convert it in asp.net 4.0. I have applied my style as per 3.5 rendering and some of items are obsolete in asp.net 4.0. Modifying style sheet was a tedious job here asp.net 4.0 compatibility  setting comes into help. Asp.net 4.0 compatibility settings provides full backward compatibility in terms of the rendering controls. You can assign this in your web.config section like following. • ASP.Net application timeout

  Hi, I have an application I have just deployed which, for complicated reasons, stores all the data from the database in a module the first time any data from the specific table is required (i.e. when a customer requests to view a product for the first time, all the product data is stored in the ProductManager class (of which an instance is stored in a shared property of the SiteContent class, making the ProductManager easily accessible from any page). Now forget that you are probably now glaring at me for using this approach.. I am sure it has its inefficiencies but I have only been studying .Net for a year or so now so I am still learning. One thing I have noticed is that I can go on the site once, then revisit it 5 minutes later and it will load all the data into the ProductManager class again. It seems this is a .Net application timeout thing - since the session timeout is set to 30 minutes and, when I am logged in on the administration frontend, it logs me out after 5 minutes (ish). Does anyone have any idea how to change this? Is there any way I can change this in the code without having to contact the hosting company? If not in the code is there any way to change this in the web.config? Thanks in advance. Regards, Richard

  Hi Does anyone know how Asp.net membership generates their salt key and then how they encode it(ie is it salt + password or password + salt)? I am using sha1 with my membership but I would like to recreate the same salts so the built in membership stuff could hash the stuff the same way as my stuff can. Thanks Edit 2 Never Mind I mis read it and was thinking it said bytes not bit. So I was passing in 128 bytes not 128bits. • Is that possible to route all mails sent to a mailbox to another server's mailbox

  I have a Linux server that has local mail service. There are few user accounts on this server. User may send the mail to each other but that only restrict to LAN environment only. For example, I may # mail user1 to send mail to user1. User are not able to send mail to public. Some service like hylafax using this local mail service to send notification of fax status. I don't want to manage and maintain local mail service anymore. I have subscribed a package from ISP to host a public domain of my own. I wish to have my hylafax service to able to send the notification mails to public mail server, is that possible to do it? It is great if all mails that send to local mail server may forward to public mail server. That makes the local mail service serve mail forward only.

• Why are some seasoned ASP.NET developers defecting to Ruby on Rails?

  Once a while I hear some known ASP.NET developer declaring that they quit developing in .NET and moving to Ruby using Ruby in Rails. The problem is they don't mention exactly the reasons. They use words like RoR is 'easier', 'better' & 'faster'. That really doesn't say much to me. Anyone care to do faithful comparison using code samples, case studies ..etc or from personal experience in using both? Try to convince me to throw away all my years of learning C#, the .NET Framework using a powerful IDE (Visual Studio). Does RoR save you hours a week in development time? What are the major pain points in .NET that compels one to move away from it? This question is NOT about a pure RoR vs ASP.NET (MVC) comparison. It's about the compelling technical reasons (getting bored does not count!) to switch over after using a platform for several years and start with a new language and platform. (prefer this to be a wiki)

  When using kubuntu I noticed that the standard task manager/system monitor was a bit more capable than gnome-system-monitor, is there a more advanced system/task monitor for ubuntu that is based on gnome opposed to KDE?   I start a job this summer doing work in ASP.NET 4 (C#). I plan on working with some legacy code as well as MVC. I want to get a running start. I have good understanding of HTML/CSS/Javascript, and pretty good understanding of C# itself, Design principles, Design Patterns, and understand masterpages, basic MVC2, and code behinds for web forms. In your opinion what aspects of ASP.NET are the most important to master for web applications? What do you value most in your usage of ASP.NET?
