  • Parse int to string with stringstream

    - by SoulBeaver
    Well! I feel really stupid for this question, and I wholly don't mind if I get downvoted for this, but I guess I wouldn't be posting this if I had not at least made an earnest attempt at looking for the solution. I'm currently working on Euler Problem 4, finding the largest palindromic number of two three-digit numbers [100..999]. As you might guess, I'm at the part where I have to work with the integer I made. I looked up a few sites and saw a few standards for converting an Int to a String, one of which included stringstream. So my code looked like this: // tempTotal is my int value I want converted. void toString( int tempTotal, string &str ) { ostringstream ss; // C++ Standard compliant method. ss << tempTotal; str = ss.str(); // Overwrite referenced value of given string. } and the function calling it was: else { toString( tempTotal, store ); cout << loop1 << " x " << loop2 << "= " << store << endl; } So far, so good. I can't really see an error in what I've written, but the output gives me the address to something. It stays constant, so I don't really know what the program is doing there. Secondly, I tried .ToString(), string.valueOf( tempTotal ), (string)tempTotal, or simply store = temptotal. All refused to work. When I simply tried doing an implicit cast with store = tempTotal, it didn't give me a value at all. When I tried checking output it literally printed nothing. I don't know if anything was copied into my string that simply isn't a printable character, or if the compiler just ignored it. I really don't know. So even though I feel this is a really, really lame question, I just have to ask: How do I convert that stupid integer to a string with the stringstream? The other tries are more or less irrelevant for me, I just really want to know why my stringstream solution isn't working.

  • Help Understanding Function

    - by Fred F.
    What does the following function perform? public static double CleanAngle(double angle) { while (angle < 0) angle += 2 * System.Math.PI; while (angle > 2 * System.Math.PI) angle -= 2 * System.Math.PI; return angle; } This is how it is used with ATan2. I believe the actually values passed to ATan2 are always positive. static void Main(string[] args) { int q = 1; //'x- and y-coordinates will always be positive values //'therefore, do i need to "clean"? foreach (Point oPoint in new Point[] { new Point(8,20), new Point(-8,20), new Point(8,-20), new Point(-8,-20)}) { Debug.WriteLine(Math.Atan2(oPoint.Y, oPoint.X), "unclean " + q.ToString()); Debug.WriteLine(CleanAngle(Math.Atan2(oPoint.Y, oPoint.X)), "cleaned " + q.ToString()); q++; } //'output //'unclean 1: 1.19028994968253 //'cleaned 1: 1.19028994968253 //'unclean 2: 1.95130270390726 //'cleaned 2: 1.95130270390726 //'unclean 3: -1.19028994968253 //'cleaned 3: 5.09289535749705 //'unclean 4: -1.95130270390726 //'cleaned 4: 4.33188260327232 }

  • md5 hash for file without File Attributes

    - by Glennular
    Using the following code to compute MD5 hashs of files: Private _MD5Hash As String Dim md5 As New System.Security.Cryptography.MD5CryptoServiceProvider Dim md5hash() As Byte md5hash = md5.ComputeHash(Me._BinaryData) Me._MD5Hash = ByteArrayToString(md5hash) Private Function ByteArrayToString(ByVal arrInput() As Byte) As String Dim sb As New System.Text.StringBuilder(arrInput.Length * 2) For i As Integer = 0 To arrInput.Length - 1 sb.Append(arrInput(i).ToString("X2")) Next Return sb.ToString().ToLower End Function We are getting different hashes depending on the create-date and modify-date of the file. We are storing the hash and the binary file in a SQL DB. This works fine when we upload the same instance of a file. But when we save a new instance of the file from the DB (with today's date as the create/modify) on the file-system and then check the new hash versus the MD5 stored in the DB they do not match, and therefor fail a duplicate check. How can we check for a file hash excluding the file attributes? or is there a different issue here?

  • Using ManagementObject to retrieve a single WMI property

    - by Jesse
    This probably isn't the best way, but I am currently retrieving the amount of RAM on a machine using: manageObjSearch.Query = new ObjectQuery("SELECT TotalVisibleMemorySize FROM Win32_OperatingSystem"); manageObjCol = manageObjSearch.Get(); foreach (ManagementObject mo in manageObjCol) sizeInKilobytes = Convert.ToInt64(mo["TotalVisibleMemorySize"]); It works well and good, but I feel I could be doing this more directly and without a foreach over a single element, but I can't figure out how to index a ManagementObjectCollection I want to do something like this: ManagementObject mo = new ManagementObject("Win32_OperatingSystem.TotalVisibleMemorySize") mo.Get(); Console.WriteLine(mo["TotalVisibleMemorySize"].ToString()) or maybe even something like ManagementClass mc = new ManagementClass("Win32_OperatingSystem"); Console.WriteLine(mc.GetPropertyValue("TotalVisibleMemorySize").ToString()); I just can't seem to figure it out. Any ideas?

  • Regarding BigDecimal

    - by arav
    i do the below java print command for this double variable double test=58.15; When i do a System.out.println(test); and System.out.println(new Double(test).toString()); It prints as 58.15. When i do a System.out.println(new BigDecimal(test)) I get the below value 58.14999999999999857891452847979962825775146484375 I am able to understand "test" double variable value is internally stored as 58.1499999. But when i do the below two System.out.println i am getting the output as 58.15 and not 58.1499999. System.out.println(test); System.out.println(new Double(test).toString()); It prints the output as 58.15 for the above two. Is the above System.out.println statements are doing some rounding of the value 58.1499999 and printing it as 58.15?

  • Using only alphanumeric characters(a-z) inside toCharArray

    - by Aaron
    Below you will find me using toCharArray in order to send a string to array. I then MOVE the value of the letter using a for statement... for(i = 0; i < letter.length; i++){ letter[i] += (shiftCode); System.out.print(letter[i]); } However, when I use shiftCode to move the value such as... a shifted by -1; I get a symbol @. Is there a way to send the string to shiftCode or tell shiftCode to ONLY use letters? I need it to see my text, like "aaron", and when I use the for statement iterate through a-z only and ignore all symbols and numbers. I THINK it is as simple as... letter=codeWord.toCharArray(a,z); But trying different forms of that and googling it didn't give me any results. Perhaps it has to do with regex or something? Below you will find a complete copy of my program; it works exactly how I want it to do; but it iterates through letters and symbols. I also tried finding instructions online for toCharArray but if there exists any arguments I can't locate them. My program... import java.io.BufferedReader; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.InputStreamReader; /* * Aaron L. • Is this the right way to get the grand total of processors with WMI on a multi-cpu system?

    - by John Sheares
    I don't have access to a multi-socketed computer, so I am unsure if the following will get the grand total of processors and logical processors. I assume ManagementObjectSearcher will return an instance for each socketed CPU and I just keep a running total? int totalCPUs = 0; int totalLogicalCPUs = 0; ManagementObjectSearcher mos = new ManagementObjectSearcher("Select * from Win32_ComputerSystem"); foreach (var mo in mos.Get()) { string num = mo.Properties["NumberOfProcessors"].Value.ToString(); totalCPUs += Convert.ToInt32(num); num = mo.Properties["NumberOfLogicalProcessors"].Value.ToString(); totalLogicalCPUs += Convert.ToInt32(num); }

  • winForms Booking Class Help

    - by cameron
    Hi, I am using C# Windows Forms in visual studio with different classes performing different functions in my program. I have a "Program" main class with the following information: static class Program { /// <summary> /// The main entry point for the application. /// </summary> [STAThread] static void Main() { Application.EnableVisualStyles(); Application.SetCompatibleTextRenderingDefault(false); Application.Run(new Form1()); } } and a Screen class with the following information class Screen { public List<Show> shows { get; private set; } public int ScreenNumber { get; private set; } public Screen(int screenNumber, params Show[] schedule) { this.ScreenNumber = screenNumber; this.shows = schedule.ToList<Show>(); } } and a Seat class with the following information public class Seat { private string name; public bool IsAvailable { get; set; } public decimal Price { get; private set; } public int Number { get; private set; } public Seat(bool isAvailable, int number) { this.IsAvailable = isAvailable; this.name = String.Format("Seat {0}",number); this.Price = 7.50m; this.Number = number; } public override string ToString() { return this.name; } } and finally a Show class with the following information public class Show { private List<Seat> seats = new List<Seat>(); public string Title { get; private set; } public string Time { get; private set; } public int ScreenNumber { get; private set; } public List<Seat> Seats { get { return this.seats; } } public Show(string title, DateTime time, int screenNumber, int numberOfSeats) { this.Title = title; this.Time = time.ToShortTimeString(); this.ScreenNumber = screenNumber; this.initSeats(numberOfSeats); } private void initSeats(int numberOfSeats) { for (int i = 0; i < numberOfSeats; i++) this.seats.Add(new Seat(true, i + 1)); } }` these all feed into two different winForms to create a booking system for shows. therefore i need to collate the data given in program and output it into a txt file. any help will be much appreciated NOTE: the code for FORM1 which allows the user to select which show they want is: namespace CindysSeats { public partial class Form1 : Form { private Cinema cinema = new Cinema(); //booked show could be added to booking object when you create it so that it is easily writable to the external file private Show selectedShow; public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); this.showList_dg.DataSource = this.cinema.GetShowList(); } private void showList_dg_RowHeaderMouseClick(object sender, DataGridViewCellMouseEventArgs e) { Show selectedShow = this.selectedShow = this.cinema.GetShowList()[e.RowIndex]; this.showTitle_lbl.Text = selectedShow.Title; this.showTime_lbl.Text = selectedShow.Time; this.showScreen_lbl.Text = selectedShow.ScreenNumber.ToString(); } private void confirmShow_btn_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (this.selectedShow == null) return; Form2 seats = new Form2(this.selectedShow); seats.Show(); } And the code for FORM2 which is where the user selects their seats they want is: namespace CindysSeats { public partial class Form2 : Form { //booked seats could be added to booking object when you create it so that it is easily writable to the external file private List<Seat> bookedSeats = new List<Seat>(); private Show selectedShow; public Form2(Show selectedShow) { InitializeComponent(); this.selectedShow = selectedShow; this.showSeats_dg.DataSource = this.selectedShow.Seats; } private void showSeats_dg_RowHeaderMouseClick(object sender, DataGridViewCellMouseEventArgs e) { Seat selectedSeat = this.selectedShow.Seats[e.RowIndex]; if(this.bookedSeats.Contains(selectedSeat)) return; if(!selectedSeat.IsAvailable) return; this.bookedSeats.Add(selectedSeat); this.bookedSeats_lv.Items.Add(selectedSeat.ToString() + " " + selectedSeat.Price.ToString()+"\n"); this.bookedSeats_lv.Invalidate(); } private void bookSeats_btn_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { } } thank you for helping

  • Mapping two tables 0..n in Hibernate

    I have a table Users CREATE TABLE "USERS" ( "ID" NUMBER NOT NULL , "LOGINNAME" VARCHAR2 (150) NOT NULL ) and I have a second table SpecialUsers. No UserId can occur twice in the SpecialUsers table, and only a small subset of the ids of users in the Users table are contained in the SpecialUsers table. CREATE TABLE "SPECIALUSERS" ( "USERID" NUMBER NOT NULL, CONSTRAINT "PK_SPECIALUSERS" PRIMARY KEY ("USERID") ) ALTER TABLE "SPECIALUSERS" ADD CONSTRAINT "FK_SPECIALUSERS_USERID" FOREIGN KEY ("USERID") REFERENCES "USERS" ("ID") / Mapping the Users table in Hibernate works ok <hibernate-mapping package="com.initech.domain"> <class name="com.initech.User" table="USERS"> <id name="id" column="ID" type="java.lang.Long"> <meta attribute="use-in-tostring">true</meta> <generator class="sequence"> <param name="sequence">SEQ_USERS_ID</param> </generator> </id> <property name="loginName" column="LOGINNAME" type="java.lang.String" not-null="true"> <meta attribute="use-in-tostring">true</meta> </property> </class> </hibernate-mapping> But I'm struggling in creating the mapping for the SpecialUsers table. • Strange behaviour of switch case with boolean value

    - by Nikhil Agrawal
    My question is not about how to solve this error(I already solved it) but why is this error with boolean value. My function is private string NumberToString(int number, bool flag) { string str; switch(flag) { case true: str = number.ToString("00"); break; case false: str = number.ToString("0000"); break; } return str; } Error is Use of unassigned local variable 'str'. Bool can only take true or false. So it will populate str in either case. Then why this error? Moreover this error is gone if along with true and false case I add a default case, but still what can a bool hold apart from true and false? Why this strange behaviour with bool variable?

  • How do I allow edit only a particular column in datagridview in windows application using C#

    - by cmrhema
    Hi, I want to enable only two columns in the DataGridview to be able to edit. The others should not be allowed to edit. Further I am not directly linking to datasource; I will be doing some thing like this way DataTable dt = new DataTable(); dt.Columns.Add("Email"); dt.Columns.Add("email1"); for (int i = 0; i < 5; i++) { DataRow dr = dt.NewRow(); dr["Email"] = i.ToString(); dr["email1"] = i.ToString() + "sdf"; dt.Rows.Add(dr); } BindingSource bs = new BindingSource(); bs.DataSource = dt; dataGridView1.DataSource = bs; So which property should I set, that will enable only one column say Email(in the above eg) to be editable. Thanks

    - by Stephen Murby
    I have this code currently, string defaultNamingContext; DirectoryEntry rootDSE = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://RootDSE"); defaultNamingContext = rootDSE.Properties["defaultNamingContext"].Value.ToString(); rootDSE = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://" + defaultNamingContext); //DirectoryEntry domain = new DirectoryEntry((string)"LDAP://" + defaultNamingContext); DirectorySearcher ouSearch = new DirectorySearcher(rootDSE,"(objectCategory=Organizational-Unit)", null, SearchScope.Subtree); MessageBox.Show(rootDSE.Path.ToString()); try { SearchResultCollection collectedResult = ouSearch.FindAll(); foreach (SearchResult temp in collectedResult) { comboBox1.Items.Add(temp.Properties["name"][0]); DirectoryEntry ou = temp.GetDirectoryEntry(); } } When i use the debugger i can see that rootDSE.Path is infact pointing to the right place, in this case "DC=g-t-p,DC=Local" but the directory searcher doesn't find any results. Can anyone help?

  • After HTTP GET request, the resulting string is cut-off - content has been consumed

    - by Jayomat
    hi all, I'm making a http get request like this: try { HttpClient client = new DefaultHttpClient(); String getURL = "http://busspur02.aseag.de/bs.exe?SID=5FC39&ScreenX=1440&ScreenY=900&CMD=CR&Karten=true&DatumT="+day+"&DatumM="+month+"&DatumJ="+year+"&ZeitH="+hour+"&ZeitM="+min+"&Intervall=60&Suchen=(S)uchen&GT0=Aachen&T0=H&HT0="+start_from+"&GT1=Aachen&T0=H&HT1="+destination+""; HttpGet get = new HttpGet(getURL); HttpResponse responseGet = client.execute(get); HttpEntity resEntityGet = responseGet.getEntity(); if (resEntityGet != null) { //do something with the response Log.i("GET RESPONSE",EntityUtils.toString(resEntityGet)); } ........ It all works well... the only problem: the output from Log.i is cut-off... It's not the complete html page. If I make the same request in a browser, I get 3x the output in opposition to making the request in the emulator and using the above code.... what's wrong? • nested linq-to-sql queries

    - by ile
    var result = ( from contact in db.Contacts join user in db.Users on contact.CreatedByUserID equals user.UserID orderby contact.ContactID descending select new ContactListView { ContactID = contact.ContactID, FirstName = contact.FirstName, LastName = contact.LastName, Company = (from field in contact.XmlFields.Descendants("Company") select field.Value).SingleOrDefault().ToString() }).Take(10); Here I described how my database tables look like. So, contacts table has one field that is xml type. In that field is stored Company filename and I need to read it. I tried it using this way: Company = (from field in contact.XmlFields.Descendants("Company") select field.Value).SingleOrDefault().ToString() }).Take(10); but I get following error: Member access 'System.String Value' of 'System.Xml.Linq.XElement' not legal on type 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable`1[System.Xml.Linq.XElement]. Any solution for this? Thanks in advance, Ile
