  • Django design question: extending User to make users that can't log in

    The site I'm working on involves teachers creating student objects. The teacher can choose to make it possible for a student to log into the site (to check calendars, etc) OR the teacher can choose to use the student object only for record keeping and not allow the student to log in. In the student creation form, if the teacher supplies a username and a password, it should create an object of the first kind - one that can log in, i.e. a regular User object. If the teacher does not supply a username/password, it should create the second type. The other requirement is that the teacher should be able to go in later and change a non-logging-in student to the other kind. What's the best way to design for this scenario? Subclass User and make username and password not required? What else would this affect?

  • Giving writing permissions for IIS user at Windows 2003 Server

    I am running a website over Windows 2003 Server and IIS6 and I am having problems to write or delete files in some temporary folder obtaining this kind of warmings: Warning: unlink(C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\cakephp\app\tmp\cache\persistent\myapp_cake_core_cake_): Permission denied in C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\cakephp\lib\Cake\Cache\Engine\FileEngine.php on line 254 I went to the tmp directory and at the properties I gave the IIS User the following permissions: Read & Execute List folder Contents Read And it still showing the same warnings. When I am on the properties window, if I click on Advanced the IIS username appears twice. One with Allow type and read & execute permissions and the other with Deny type and Special permissions. My question is: Should I give this user not only the Read & Execute permissions but also this ones?: Create Attributes Create Files/ Write Data Create Folders/ Append Data Delete Subfolders and Files Delete They are available to select if I Click on the edit button over the username. Wouldn't I be opening a security hole if I do this? Otherwise, how can I do to read and delete the files my website uses? Thanks.

    Hi everyone, I am working with jsp/servlet project and i have to complete the module of access management to my jsps since I have more than one user with different profile. I defined a table in my database wich resume the profil and the url permitted like that: id_profil :1 url : http://localhost/...xyz.jsp id page 1 Now I am trying to let the menu modified appropriately to the id_profil of the logged user. So there are pages allowed in one profile but must be hidden to others. I have no idea since now how to realize this and it is so important for me. thanks for your help.

    I use the function "IOPMSchedulePowerEvent" to schedule Sleep or Wake-Events and registered my daemon with "IORegisterForSystemPower" to receive power-state-changes. Everything works fine! When system going sleep and later waking up at scheduled time, my daemon do some work, and after it system should going sleep again. Now my questions: How can i detect, if the system was awaked by user or by the scheduled time? How can i detect, if a user currently working with the system, so the daemon have not to put it in sleep-mode??? Thanks Nobik

  • Stored Connection Strings per user

    In the past I've used a Singleton Pattern to load the connection string when the application starts via the global.asa file. I have a project now where each user has a unique connection string to the database. I would like to load this connection string once. The issue is that the singleton pattern will not work for me since each user has there own connection string. Basically the connection string is created dynamically. I do not want to store it is session. If anyway has a clever way of doing this in .NET let me know ?

  • Windows 8 Set User Account Image

    I'm trying to write a small CONSOLE (not metro style) app to quickly change the user account image of the current user to a select image for a setup scrip that I'm running on a bunch of laptops. They're all Windows 8 and (since it hasn't been out terribly long) I can't find a ton of info on it. I did manage to figure out that you need to use the Windows.System.UserProfile object to do so, but I can't find any documentation on how to do so in a console app. Thoughts? Suggestions?

  • Set Context User Principal for Customized Authentication in SignalR

When I need to implement some features that needs real-time communication and push notifications from server side I decided to use SignalR. SignalR is a project currently developed by Microsoft to build web-based, read-time communication application. You can find it here. With a lot of introductions and guides it's not a difficult task to use SignalR with ASP.NET WebAPI and AngularJS. I followed this and this even though it's based on SignalR 1. But when I tried to implement the authentication for my SignalR I was struggled 2 days and finally I got a solution by myself. This might not be the best one but it actually solved all my problem.   In many articles it's said that you don't need to worry about the authentication of SignalR since it uses the web application authentication. For example if your web application utilizes form authentication, SignalR will use the user principal your web application authentication module resolved, check if the principal exist and authenticated. But in my solution my ASP.NET WebAPI, which is hosting SignalR as well, utilizes OAuth Bearer authentication. So when the SignalR connection was established the context user principal was empty. So I need to authentication and pass the principal by myself.   Firstly I need to create a class which delivered from "AuthorizeAttribute", that will takes the responsible for authenticate when SignalR connection established and any method was invoked. 1: public class QueryStringBearerAuthorizeAttribute : AuthorizeAttribute 2: { 3: public override bool AuthorizeHubConnection(HubDescriptor hubDescriptor, IRequest request) 4: { 5: } 6:  7: public override bool AuthorizeHubMethodInvocation(IHubIncomingInvokerContext hubIncomingInvokerContext, bool appliesToMethod) 8: { 9: } 10: } The method "AuthorizeHubConnection" will be invoked when any SignalR connection was established. And here I'm going to retrieve the Bearer token from query string, try to decrypt and recover the login user's claims. 1: public override bool AuthorizeHubConnection(HubDescriptor hubDescriptor, IRequest request) 2: { 3: var dataProtectionProvider = new DpapiDataProtectionProvider(); 4: var secureDataFormat = new TicketDataFormat(dataProtectionProvider.Create()); 5: // authenticate by using bearer token in query string 6: var token = request.QueryString.Get(WebApiConfig.AuthenticationType); 7: var ticket = secureDataFormat.Unprotect(token); 8: if (ticket != null && ticket.Identity != null && ticket.Identity.IsAuthenticated) 9: { 10: // set the authenticated user principal into environment so that it can be used in the future 11: request.Environment["server.User"] = new ClaimsPrincipal(ticket.Identity); 12: return true; 13: } 14: else 15: { 16: return false; 17: } 18: } In the code above I created "TicketDataFormat" instance, which must be same as the one I used to generate the Bearer token when user logged in. Then I retrieve the token from request query string and unprotect it. If I got a valid ticket with identity and it's authenticated this means it's a valid token. Then I pass the user principal into request's environment property which can be used in nearly future. Since my website was built in AngularJS so the SignalR client was in pure JavaScript, and it's not support to set customized HTTP headers in SignalR JavaScript client, I have to pass the Bearer token through request query string. This is not a restriction of SignalR, but a restriction of WebSocket. For security reason WebSocket doesn't allow client to set customized HTTP headers from browser. Next, I need to implement the authentication logic in method "AuthorizeHubMethodInvocation" which will be invoked when any SignalR method was invoked. 1: public override bool AuthorizeHubMethodInvocation(IHubIncomingInvokerContext hubIncomingInvokerContext, bool appliesToMethod) 2: { 3: var connectionId = hubIncomingInvokerContext.Hub.Context.ConnectionId; 4: // check the authenticated user principal from environment 5: var environment = hubIncomingInvokerContext.Hub.Context.Request.Environment; 6: var principal = environment["server.User"] as ClaimsPrincipal; 7: if (principal != null && principal.Identity != null && principal.Identity.IsAuthenticated) 8: { 9: // create a new HubCallerContext instance with the principal generated from token 10: // and replace the current context so that in hubs we can retrieve current user identity 11: hubIncomingInvokerContext.Hub.Context = new HubCallerContext(new ServerRequest(environment), connectionId); 12: return true; 13: } 14: else 15: { 16: return false; 17: } 18: } Since I had passed the user principal into request environment in previous method, I can simply check if it exists and valid. If so, what I need is to pass the principal into context so that SignalR hub can use. Since the "User" property is all read-only in "hubIncomingInvokerContext", I have to create a new "ServerRequest" instance with principal assigned, and set to "hubIncomingInvokerContext.Hub.Context".     Suppose you are developing an administration page where the administrator can edit other users. In your code you want to distinguish between the user sitting in front of the screen, and the user being edited. What do you call the two? User, CurrentUser, EditedUser, CurrentEditUser, etc? Note that the admin user isn't necessarily real admin, they can be just an ordinary user given rights to edit other users.

  • I can't uncheck the "read-only" attribute from a folder on a Windows Server 2008 machine.

    Hello everybody. I have a folder (C:\temp) on a windows server 2008 R2 installation. Initially it has the Read Only attribute checked, but I want to uncheck it. I am able to uncheck it and it even shows me the loading process (it is showing me that it is going through all the subfolders), but after I press OK and I go back to properties, it still remains checked as Read Only.   • Restore e-mail from "junk e-mail" folder

    I'm using MS Office Outlook 2007. I check my "Junk E-mail" folder ~once a month. This time I found that my whole google groups correspondence is there. I right-clicked a message and pressed "Add sender to safe senders list". Hopefully, the future messages to this group will be delivered to my inbox. The problem is with the messages that are already in the junk folder. Is there a way to resort my junk folder automatically, to have e-mails from senders listed on my safe list being recovered from the junk folder and moved to e.g. Inbox folder ? Thanks in advance.

  • IIS in VirtualBox serving files from shared Ubuntu folder

    Here's the problem: I want to use Ubuntu. But I need to develop ASP.NET (MVC) sites. So I setup VirtualBox with Win2003 and IIS6. But I would prefer my working files to be located in my Ubuntu home folder. So I setup shared folder in VirtualBox and make IIS6 virtual directory work from there. The problem is, IIS6 can't do this. Whatever I try (mapped drive, network uri path) I get different IIS errors: can't access folder (for mapped drive), can't monitor file system changes (\vboxsvr share path), and so on. Is there a way for IIS6 in virtual machine to configure virtual application folder to be on host machine (Ubuntu) - be it shared folder, mapped drive, smb share, or whatever?

    I'm unable to access a Windows 7 (Windows 7 Pro 64-bit) shared folder from an old Windows 98 box: I tried with: Turning on file and printer sharing Turning on public folder sharing Turning off password protected sharing Sharing the folder with read permissions to Everyone Lowering the encryption to 40-56 bits. The shared folder works fine using it from Windows XP, and even from Linux with CIFS / Samba, but when I try to use it from Win98 with: NET USE X: \\SERVER\SHARE an user / password dialog pops up. I entered the administrator's user / password from my Windows 7 box, but it doesn't work (incorrect password). The same Win98 machine works fine accessing a Windows XP shared folder, so it looks like a Windows 7 networking issue. Any ideas?

If possible I'd like to do this without duplicating the content. Is it possible to organise files in Google Drive to that they have 2 tags/folders attached to them - 1 private and 1 public? Is there another way to quickly share/link a folder to my public folder without actually moving it away from my private to my public folder?

  • Media Player Classic creating folder

    Whenever I open a file in Media Player Classic it creates a new folder "Media Player Classic" under the folder of the file I opened. Originally it was putting a playlist in that folder, "default.mpcpl", but I found that if you open the playlist (Ctrl+7) and right-click the playlist, there is an option "Remember items", unchecking that will prevent MPC from creating this playlist. I was hopeful that without the auto-generated playlist MPC would have no reason to create the folder. Wrong. Now the folder is empty, but I still have to follow MPC around deleting all these blank folders. I use Media Player Classic on several of my computers so I think I just screwed up some variable somewhere somehow regarding where it stores playlists or something, but I can't figure out what it is, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling to little avail. Which makes me think it might be in the registry. Does anyone have any ideas?

  • Make backups of Dropbox folder every week

    I have a Dropbox folder which is shared by couple of users. I would like to make a backup of this folder that will occur every week and store this backup on another hard drive. I can simply copy the entire folder each time and this will be the backup, but I would like to copy only the files that have been changed or created during that week. I thought of creating a batch script that will check each file in the Dropbox folder recursively and see its modified date. If that date is later then a given one (current backup date) it will copy the file to a folder named BackUP[Date]. Do you think this solution is OK?

    I have a fresh install of Mint 15 with Cinnamon and I can't find an option to hide all icons on the desktop. In settings-Desktop there are only options to show/hide the home folder, trash, etc, but no option to hide the contents of the "Desktop" folder. How do I hide the $HOME folder contents from appearing on the desktop in Linux Mint 15? UPDATE: It actually looks like the icons on the desktop are the contents of the $HOME folder, not $HOME/Desktop. ** Question was edited to reflect the fact that it was the user's home folder icons showing, not just "my computer", "trash", etc.

  • Folder cannot be deleted

    I am using Windows XP Home Edition. When I try to delete a folder I have named cygwin. When I try to delete it or any file or folder within it, there is a long pause, and then an error pops up, saying: Cannot delete Cygwin: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or read-write protected and that the file is not currently in use. I have tried deleting the folder and the files it contains with FileAssassin, and unlocking it with LockHunter. Neither report any errors unless I try to have them delete the file or folder, then I get an error message saying Access Denied. I have rebooted into Safe Mode to change the ownership, but I get Access Denied when I click OK or Apply. How can I delete this folder?

    I'm trying to run a Spring MVC 2.5 tutorial and when I run the ant script for a deploy, I get this error: deploy: [copy] Copying 2 files to C:\apache-tomcat-7.0.8\webapps\c:\projects\workspace\springapp BUILD FAILED C:\projects\workspace\springapp\build.xml:46: Failed to copy C:\projects\workspace\springapp\war\WEB-INF\web.xml to C:\apache-tomcat-7.0.8\webapps\c:\projects\workspace\springapp\WEB-INF\web.xml due to failed to create the parent directory for C:\apache-tomcat-7.0.8\webapps\c:\projects\workspace\springapp\WEB-INF\web.xml After reviewing the directory: springapp I saw the properties as read-only. No problem I thought as I'm logging in as administrator. However, changing the uac settings, going to a command prompt as admin and then trying to change the properties of the folder with attrib, making me the owner of the folder, changing the security settings etc... did nothing. I can't seem to change this folder to anything. So my question is, how do I change the settings on that folder so ANT can make changes to that folder?

    I've used dbenham's excellent response to the question of how to add the folder name to the beginning of a filename in a cmd script. @echo off pushd "Folder" for /d %%D in (*) do ( for %%F in ("%%~D\*") do ( for %%P in ("%%F\..") do ( ren "%%F" "%%~nxP_%%~nxF" ) ) ) popd What I'm finding is that seemingly randomly (though it probably isn't) sometimes the script will run through several child folders and rename correctly but then it gets to a folder where it gets stuck in a loop and starts adding the folder name repeatedly to the file inside. I have 90,000 files in 300 folders to rename this weekend. Any chance you can guess the cause? PS: Is there a maximum number of files that are acceptable in each folder?

  • How can I get at (and delete) emails in the "Conflicts" folder in Outlook 2007

    I use Outlook 2007 at work. It is syncd to a BlackBerry and an iPad. This works fine on the surface, but I have noticed a lot of emails build up in a Conflicts folder that I can't see. There is also a "Sync Issues" folder that I can't see, containing log files from sync issues. None of this should be a problem except that emails that were previously flagged but have since been deleted still turn up in the Conflicts folder, and thus still turn up in the To-Do bar. (They also occupy space on the server and count to my mailbox limit.) Is there a way to get at either the Conflicts folder itself, or construct a search that returns all the emails in that folder, so I can get rid of them? I can certainly delete them if I search by title or whatever, but it's annoying.

  • Windows 7 shared folder status info not showing in details pane

    Just upgraded my system to Windows 7 a few hours ago and noticed that there was no shared overlay icon on my shared folders anymore and after doing some reading I discovered that the icon was removed in Windows 7, stupid decision but w/eve. Anyway I have been reading that if a folder is shared then you can still see the shared status of a folder in the details pane in explorer whenever you select the folder, but this information is not available to me for some reason and I am not sure why. When I click on a shared folder in explorer the only information I see in the details pane is the folders name and the modified date/time info which is the same information I see for a folder that is not shared so my question is how do I get this information to display in the details pane like it's supposed to be.
