OTN Virtual Developer Day for WebLogic Server and WebLogic Developer Broadcasts

To further move the new year of 2011 underway for WebLogic Server, quite a series of hands on technical online events and broadcasts are about to get underway from the WebLogic team. The first is Virtual Developer Day: Oracle WebLogic Server which is an online event that combines hands on labs with WebLogic Server through a series of Virtual Box images. This event will cover things like the new Java EE 6 capabilities one can use on WebLogic Server, using Maven and Hudson with WebLogic Server, developing with Web services on WebLogic Server and even upgrading from Oracle Application Server. Very technical, very hands on. And its global - multiple geographies covered. Nice! James Bayer has put out a full agenda for this on his blog as well as links on how to register. The second is a 5 week long weekly technical broadcast under the umbrella of Accelerate Your Development with Oracle WebLogic Suite walking through topics like working with JPA, designing distributed caching strategies with WebLogic Server, advanced JMS topics and UI topics like JQuery as well restful Web services with Jersey and JAX-RS. Again in James' blog the full agenda is available to check out if it is interesting for you to attend including a brief video introduction outlining in a bit more detail exactly what will be covered. Hopefully between these two events and the release of WebLogic Server 10.3.4 earlier in January, we are kicking off 2011 in a good fashion. Looking forward to sharing more as we go forward in 2011.

I want to have around 60 repositories of projects and I want to serve them from a dedicated remote server(ubuntu) with the help of mercurial server so that all my developers will be able to update their changes. I have followed this article in order to do that but stocked in the Apache Configuration Step (section 2.5 2.5.4). I have some following questions: What are the steps I need to follow to make apache to serve /home/hg/repositories/private/hgweb.cgi when I enter dev.example.com/private ? Is my virtual host file is correct or do I need to change anything ? I bought the example.com and how to make it to serve dev.example.com/private. Do I need to add A name(like : subdomain.example.com and then IP of my server) in the cpannel of hosting company? VirtualBox : increase hard disk size of the virtual machine

I have run out of space on my WinXP virtual machine, which I only gave 10 GB space for when I created it. Is there an easy way to increase it to, say, 20 GB? How do I set up an HTTP Redirect rule to redirect all requests for a virtual directory to another virtual directory, when I don't know the hostname or complete URL, and cannot use the URL Rewrite module? The following redirects should work: http://host1/app/oldvdir -> http://host1/app/newvdir http://host1/app/oldvdir/ -> http://host1/app/newvdir/ http://host1/app/oldvdir/login.aspx -> http://host1/app/newvdir/login.aspx http://host2/app/oldvdir/login.aspx -> http://host2/app/newvdir/login.aspx I would like to place the redirect rule in the app's root web.config. A Virtual Dilemma

Solving a Gotcha with VirtualBox Guest Additions I was just building a new virtual machine based off an existing image that didn’t have the Virtual Box Guest Additions enabled. The guest additions allow tight integration between the guest OS and the host environment, providing seemless mouse transfer and the ability to take advantage of full video screen size. The guest additions need to be linked with the kernel which requires the kernel-devel package to be installed. After installing this package and then trying to add the guest additions it failed, suggesting that I might not have the kernel-devel package that I had installed. After a little though I finally realized what had happened. When I grabbed the kernel-devel package I hadn’t checked the version of my kernel. The kernel-devel I downloaded didn’t match the revision of the kernel I was running! Hence my problems. I upgraded the kernel to the same revision as my kernel-devel package and rebooted. I had installed dkms so I was pleased to see that my VBox Additions successfully built and the mouse and screen now worked as expected. So now you know my embarrassing story for the day :-)

Oracle Virtual Desktop Client with USB smart card reader

I have my Sun Ray thin client at home which I use religiously, I use a Sun Ray 3i at work as my main desktop and just always take my smart card home and happily continue with the hot desking feature. We released a software version of the Sun Ray client called Oracle Virtual Desktop Client (OVDC). There is a version for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. I have a minimac at home and I installed OVDC on it, which of course works great but since I like to re-connect to my session that I use at work, I wanted to try out the external usb smart card reader feature. I ordered a cute, low cost device online and tried it out. As expected, it worked out of the box without -any- configuration. I took the device, plugged it into my minimac, started OVDC, plugged in my smartcard and I got the password screen (screensaver) to get into my sun ray session on my server at work. A Virtual Seat at the Architect’s Table

I always have fun producing the Arch2Arch podcasts, but the latest batch was all that and a bag of chips, since I was required to do absolutely no preparation and very little talking, and since the conversation was reminiscent of those I’ve had with various architects (you know who you are) in various watering holes: free-ranging, extemporaneous, and far, far from dull. Setting up a network between a host and guest virtual machine

(I'm running ubuntu server 12.04 on virtual box) I'm trying to transfer a file (scp) from my laptop to one of the directories of a virtual machine. I tried sharing folders, but that failed. I'm a bit of a networking newbie. I've looked at like 20-30 pages. Here's one: http://www.howtoforge.com/moving-files-between-linux-systems-with-scp I followed those steps exactly. My problem is that when I try using scp, it just hangs. I'm also not sure which network interface to configure (eth0, eth1?) in the guest OS. Another (significant?) detail is that the inet address of eth0 is 10.0.2.15 instead of something like 192.168.x.y. I've enabled the bridge adapter and the host-only adapter. Both the laptop and guest VM have openssh-server installed. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Is there a better place to ask about this?

Virtual Hosts Not Working (12.10)

I'm trying to get virtual hosts up and running on my Ubuntu laptop that has 12.10 installed. I'm running Apache2, and I enabled the virtual hosting module. When I go to 12.0.0.1, I'm able to get the default page. When I go to example.local, I just get the search engine results, instead of the "hey, you're seeing this" page I set up in that directory (/var/www/example.local). I even made sure I have only one "NameVirtualHost *:80" variable active. Browsing Playstation 3 from Ubuntu Box

Hi, My Goal here is to be able to transfer files from my Ubuntu 10.04 box to my PS3 over a wireless network. My PS3 and my Ubuntu Box is on the same home network. These are some stuff that I tried: I can't see my PS 3 from 'Places ? Network' nor other computer that is running on windows. I am still puzzled by this fact. I have not tried ping-ing my PS3. I'll try that later today and post the result in the forum I install PS3MediaServer (http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/). Someone in the PS3 chat forum (http://www.ps3chat.com/playstation-3...lp-please.html) claims that it will enable your ubuntu box to browse PS3. So I downloaded PS3MediaServer, and ran the software. The status tab keep showing "Waiting ...". It seems that PS3MediaServer can't find my PS3. Some how I feel that 1 and 2 are related somehow.Perhaps that there is something wrong with my Ubuntu network settings that is preventing my ubuntu box from looking up other device on the network. I can go to the Internet fine, but I can't see other device on my network. Does anyone have any experience in this area. I would like to hear your experience and perhaps some solution. Any kind of hints or help will be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Updating a staging server (from a CI server) in a Vagrant box with Chef

I'm using Vagrant + Chef (chef_client provisioner) to create & provision a staging environment for my server. And I have a Jenkins job set up that is run every time I push to my 'develop' branch. In the Jenkins job, I would like to update & rebuild the source code of the server in the staging box and restart it. I have already written the cookbooks that install the dependencies, configure the db etc. But I'm not sure how to run only the update & rebuild & restart stuff from the cookbooks. I understand I could always tear down the whole box and rebuild it, but provisioning the box is a lengthy process so I would like to do that as little as possible. I split my server cookbook into 3 recipes: dependencies, db_setup and server. What I want to run in the my Jenkins job is the "server" recipe only. But I dont' understand how can I do that... If I specify the run_list on my Chef server, then I lose the ability to provision the whole box from scratch. Basically, I would like to be able to tell Vagrant from the command line what recipes Chef should run. Is that possible somehow? Cheers!

Linux Port 80 to redirect to a Windows box

I have 2 servers here at work. One is a Windows 2008 Server R2 (for safety's sake, lets use 192.168.1.100) and the other is a Fedora 14 (192.168.1.101). Currently when you hit our subdomain, x.test.com, our routers tell it to go to our Fedora box, and since Apache is installed and listening to port 80, it displays the Fedora Apache Test Page. It's obvious that I don't use port 80 for this machine, however I do use NAGIOS on it and its always nice to be able to access that from anywhere in the world. So when I want to access it, I just type x.test.com/nagios. Now here comes the dilemma.... On the Windows R2 box, we recently have installed a program that requires us to setup a web server using IIS7. Because of this application, I'm going to be creating a new subdomain called y.test.com, but since we only have 1 WAN/router, it will still get pointed to our Fedora box. That being said, it wants to use port 80 as well (or whatever port I damn well wish to assign it). So my question is: since our router is pointing to the Fedora 14 box (.101), and I want to make sure I can access NAGIOS from anywhere in the world, how do I tell Apache (httpd) to redirect port 80 to the other server (.100)? If not possible, what are my other options? I have rinetd installed on Fedora and have even tried the option 192.168.1.101 80 192.168.1.100 80 and it didn't seem to work "because port 80 was already bound" Thoughts? and Thanks!

Failing to send email on Ubuntu box (Karmic Koala)

I have a home network with an XP and Ubuntu (9.10) box. I have created a small test php script for checking that I can send emails from my machine. I am using the same php.ini file with the same [mail settings], yet the file works on my XP box, and fails on the Ubuntu box. I have included the script here, hopefully, someone can spot whats going wrong: <?php // send e-mail to ... $to="[email protected]"; // Your subject $subject="Test Email"; // From //$header="from: test script"; $header='From: host-email-username@hostdomain_here' . However, the mail never arrives in my mail inbox (I've waited 1 day so far). Is there something else I need to be looking at?

creating message box as sheets for mac in PyQt

I used message box as seperate dialog instead of sheets for mac OS, now i m working on it to spawn a sheet as message box instead of seperate one. I have tried setting the message box as a modal one: (messagebox.setWindowModality(QtCore.Qt.WindoModal)) and setting message box, parent dialog window flags as sheet (parentDialog.setWindowFlags(QtCore.Qt.Sheet) messagebox.setWindowFlags(QtCore.Qt.Sheet)) But the above commands are not working to create a sheet instead of seperate dialog. Does anyone have an idea of how to solve?

Why do I have to specify virtual functions in the declaration of a derived class?

Given the base class A and the derived class B: class A { public: virtual void f(); } class B : public A { public: void g(); } I get errors saying that f() is not declared in B while trying do define void B::f(). Do I have to declare f() explicitly in B? I think that if the interface changes I shouldn't have to correct the declarations in every single class deriving from it. Is there no way for B to get all the virtual functions' declarations from A automatically?

SharePoint 2010 Development on Virtual Machine - Windows 7 or Server 2008?

I recently switched to a MacBook Pro for my development machine (for many reasons). I want to setup a Virtual Machine for ASP.NET, IIS, and Visual Studio 2010 development. I also have need to do some development work with SharePoint 2010. What I am wondering is if I should use Windows 7 (64 bit) or Windows Server 2008 (64 bit) as the OS for my development virtual machine. I don't really need most of the services running in Server 2008 so I felt that Windows 7 would probably run faster in the VM environment however I am fairly new to SharePoint 2010 so I am not sure if Windows 7 (64 bit) can be used as a development environment for it. Isn't the second version simply name hiding? How do you define the Base::func() of Derived2, if you cannot do it within the class declaration of Dereived2? Thanks

Working with an external button box

I tried this question on Stack Overflow, but I was pointed here, so here goes: For a new project for myself, I am looking for a way to be able to (for example) open a pop-up window on my laptop, by pressing a button on an external device (to be build by myself, or at least bought) connected with USB. Basically I would be looking at something like a Arduino or Raspberry (IF I am looking in the right direction) with buttons on it, and as soon as I hit a button on the external box with physical buttons, a command activates on my laptop and for example opens a popup window in which I can input tekst. Does anyone know: 1) if it is possible to do this at all. 2) What equipment is needed for the external box, what programming is needed. I preffer .net (dot net) but maybe it can only be done with software from the external box. If anyone can point me in the right direction, like make/model of the external box or websites I would be very happy. I have knowledge of Visual Studio/.net but I am willing to learn other languages if .net is not an option for this project.
