  • Check exact match of a word in a list of words

    I want to check if a word is in a list of words. word = "with" word_list = ["without", "bla", "foo", "bar"] I tried if word in set(list), but it is not yielding the wanted result due to the fact in is matching string rather than item. That is to say, "with" is a match in any of the words in the word_list but still if "with" in set(list) will say True. What is a simpler way for doing this check than manually iterate over the list?

  • Understanding List formatting in MSWord

    I've never understood how formatting works in MSWord for lists... it mostly just works but sometimes becomes incredibly stubborn about enforcing styles you don't want, especially when copy-pasting into a list and working with multiple, multi-layer lists. What are some good ways to understand how it works, so one can work with Word, instead of fighting against it? Here's an example... I want a list like: 1)first test CHECK: a)something b)another thing 2)another test CHECK: a)it works b)it doesn't crash I find Word really doesn't like this... I try creating one mini-list and copy pasting but typically the numbering on the sub-lists doesn't re-start automatically, etc. I'm using Word 2007 but I remember it being this way in earlier versions too.

  • Can I keep columns from breaking across pages?

    In Microsoft Word 2007, if I put a passage of text into a column layout that spans two pages, Word first puts everything that fits on the first page into a column layout on the first page, then the rest into a column layout on the second page. I want to prevent this breaking. The question is difficult to phrase, so here's an example of what I want to accomplish: Instead of a c e b d f ----- g j m h k n i l o I want the columns to be preserved across the page break, like so: a f k b g l ----- c h m d i n e j o Is this possible in Microsoft Word 2007?

  • how to protect from editing or converting to text a pdf file?

    I am using a version of Ms Office of 2010, it was a beta version of public domain (I dont recall the name, but I believe it was called Blue version or something like that). I usually make my documents using the MS Word and then saving it like a pdf file using the function to publish as a pdf file within Word. The problem that I have is that some people are converting my documents into text, putting their name on it, and credited my work to them; so I would like to know if there is a way to: protect with a password the editing of my document protect it from converting into txt, with a password if its possible maybe but a digital signature in which it says my name as an author I want that the people who access it can only read it, and nothing more. I am using MS Word 2010 and Foxit Pdf (an old version), I usually do not use Adobe Acrobat. Thanks

    For example when i want to write 1.1 in MS Word, the . is suddenly converted to ',' when i write the second 1. Here is a illustration of what happens: Notes: I am typing in Arabic and i want the numbers Arabic. When I am typing in English it is fined and everything is better than expected: The . remains . I tried to reset Word settings based on the all the ways that MSDN suggests. Now all the styles and options are set to default and all add-ons are removed. I also tried to reset my Regional and Languages settings to a Standard one. I have also changed all the , separators to . How can i stop the Word from changing my dots to commas? (It only happens when dot is between two digits)

  • Template loading slowness on VPN

    Hi All We have got lots of Word templates on our network. They are perfectly working on local area network. However, if users try to create a new word document from a template when they are connected to VPN outside of the office, it takes nearly 20 minutes to create a word file which is not reasonable at all.   • Create my own custom ellipsis bullet point

    I regularly use an ellipsis as a bullet point in a list of items in Word/Outlook 2010. Example: I like summer because... ... it's warm out. ... we go on vacation. ... my birthday is in July. Currently in Word/Outlook if you type certain characters like a hyphen and hit space, it will automatically start a bulleted list using the hyphen. I would really like the same functionality with the ellipsis. When I type the third period and hit space, start a bulleted list. Does anyone know of a way to do this? Registry hack? Hidden Word Setting?

  • Word-wrap grid cells in Ext JS

    (This is not a question per se, I'm documenting a solution I found using Ext JS 3.1.0. But, feel free to answer if you know of a better solution!) The Column config for an Ext JS Grid object does not have a native way to allow word-wrapped text, but there is a css property to override the inline CSS of the TD elements created by the grid. Unfortunately, the TD elements contain a DIV element wrapping the content, and that DIV is set to white-space:nowrap by Ext JS's stylesheet, so overriding the TD CSS does no good. I added the following to my main CSS file, a simple fix that appears to not break any grid functionality, but allows any white-space setting I apply to the TD to pass through to the DIV. .x-grid3-cell { /* TD is defaulted to word-wrap. Turn it off so it can be turned on for specific columns. */ white-space:nowrap; } .x-grid3-cell-inner { /* Inherit DIV's white-space from TD parent, since DIV's inline style is not accessible in the column definition. */ white-space:inherit; } YMMV, but it works for me, wanted to get it out there as a solution since I couldn't find a working solution by searching the Interwebs.

    I am creating an rss feed application. As a sample i have downloaded apples rss feed, but the problem with it is that the words in the table cells are not wrapped. As the contents are of very lengthy, the users may not be able to read the full text from the table unless by going to that link. Instead, I need to display that in 2 or 3 lines, otherwise saying, need to use word wrap in the tables. How to implement that? pls reply

  • Wrap or adorn wpf listview datatemplate

    I'm attempting to essentially wrap the contents of a DateTemplate in a listview gridview column with a border. What I want to know is if it's possible to supply an adorner that will surround that template so that I don't have to specify the border in every single datatemplate on every column (which is what I'm doing now). I've got something like this, but I know it's not right <Style TargetType="{x:Type ListBoxItem}"> <Setter Property="TemplateContent"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate> <StackPanel> <Border BorderBrush="Green" BorderThickness="1"> <AdornedElementPlaceholder /> </Border> </StackPanel> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> This complains that Templatecontent is not a valid type. I've also tried with DataTemplate and that doesn't work either (understandably so). I know I could just create a DataTemplate, however the content for each column is different. At the very least, it binds to different fields. I'm wondering if there's a solution using a dynamic resource, but I don't know much about it.     I have a layout that contains some text fields and has a background image that's displayed at the top of my activity. I'd like the background image to scale to wrap the content (don't care about aspect ratio). However, the image is larger than content, so the layout instead wraps the background image. Scale a Drawable or background image? Based on this, I created a FrameLayout w/ an ImageView showing the background. Unfortunately, I still can't get it to work. I want the height of the background image to shrink/expand w/ the size of the text views, but with the FrameLayout, the ImageView fits to the size of it's parent, and I can't find a way to make the parent fit to the size the text view layout.   • JCarousel wrap set to 'circular' bug

    I'm trying to set up a JCarousel instance witht the wrap set to circular, however, I noticed an issue where I "inspect element" in Chrome, duplicate elements are added to the html when the slides repeat (it can be viewed on the official example page). http://sorgalla.com/projects/jcarousel/examples/static_circular.html I know this is an open bug on GitHub.   • Wrap output of struts2 ServletDispatcherResult ?

    I'd like to do much the same thing as the Struts2 sitemesh servlet-filter does, i.e. wrap the output of an action with some chosen content. The "problem" with the sitemesh approach is that it AFIK it does not have any relationship to the ActionInvocation, and I would like to be able to query information from the ActionInvocation when determining which content to add. I have looked through the ServletDispatcherResult, and I'm not entirly sure what's the best way to achieve this. Any suggestions ?

    I'm writing part of a web page that allows a user to build a table and fill it with information. In the course of building the table, the user will be adding additional columns with headers. I'd like to code it so when the combined width of all the headers causes one of them to wrap that the table columns switch to using vertical text (writing-mode: tb-rl). The initial idea plagiarized from firefox tabs workflow, i.e. when you have too much tabs it will wrap extra ones into collapsible dropdown button "List all tabs". I am thinking to play with overflow:auto in conjunction with javascript, but is there anything like this already implemented or maybe some better idea? Thanks.

    This is a tall order, but is there a jQuery or Mootools (or other framework) plugin to wrap text around images and support IE6? I've tried the jQSlickWrap, but unless the browser supports HTML 5, you're out of luck. What's strange is that IE 6 supports the jQuery Background Canvas plugin, which uses the CANVAS object (via excanvas.js) just as this plugin does. Thanks.

  • Huge email sizes when using mail merge in Word 2010

    So I've designed an HTML template to send out some emails on. The code is fine, everything looks great there, and it tests just fantastically. I was sending out putting my recipients in the BCC field, but I decided to make it a little more personal and open the file in Word and do an email merge. The HTML file itself is 3.06kb and contains an img src to an absolute URL, which is about 125kb (a little large, I know, but it's very important). When I merge the file from Word 2010 - Outlook 2010, the email size jumps to about 250kb. It's not much, I know, but I'm a gigantic nerd and I'm stuck thinking it should be about 5kb with MIME overhead. Here's the file list on one of the test emails: File Size image001.png 104366 image002.gif 43 MESSAGE 1259 Mime.822 152575 TEXT.htm 5712 Since the img src is specified, I'm not sure why these are coming through. If this is an issue inherent to Outlook, I'd be happy to explore other options.
