• Google Apps For Business, SSO, AD FS 2.0 and AD

  We are a small company with 22 people in the office. We had a lot of problems with e-mail in the past so I decided to change over to Google Apps for Business. It is the perfect solution for us, except for one thing: I need to be able to control the access to the mailboxes. Only users inside the office, authenticated to AD, or users authenticated to our VPN can connect to gmail. From what I've read it is possible using the SSO (Single Sign On) solution provided by Google - but i am having some trouble finding consistent information about it. First of all, our infrastructure: Windows Server 2008 R2 Active Directory, one domain only. Kerio Control for QoS and VPN. That's about it on our side. On Google Apps' side, I have one account, and 03 domains that my users use to log in. The main domain has most of the users, but the are a couple of people that login using one of the subdomains. I have a 03 domains because I run mail for 03 companies and wanted all to be in within the same control panel. Well, I found some guides on the internet but none of them cover the AD FS installation part. I've read somewhere that I needed to download AD FS 2.0 directly from Microsoft.com, because the one that came with Windows Server was a old version. I downloaded it (adfsSetup.exe) and tried to install but got an error, saying that I needed a Windows Server 2008 Sp2 for that program. My Windows Server 2008 is R2. I really need some help here, this is very importand, I dont want to have to pay $1000 for a SSO solution when i have an AD set up. Can someone please point me out to the right direction? Where can I find an AD FS 2.0 setup compatible with R2 would be a good start, or the one that came with r2 is already the 2.0 version. After the initial setup, there are some guides on the internet about the Google Apps part. It seems to be really easy. I also tried adding AD FS role, but there are a bunch of options wich I have no idea what means, and I coudn't find any guide covering that on the internet. I dont have a lot of experience with Windows Server, but I have a company wich is certificated and provide us with support. I can ask for their help in the later setup, but I dont think ADFS is a very common thing to deal with.

  We're restructuring our old intranet into a new one and are going through each site to find content and use our new standard structure/look-and-feel. Do you recommend a tool where you can do "digital Post-It" notes? It would provide a way to type some items on a "card" and be able to move it around and organize it quickly. Also, if you know of tools in general for this kind of task, please advise. Thank you.

• Deferred Shading - Toolkit

  I recently managed to get some lights rendered in a scene by using a buffer and a for-loop. The problem with this method is the performance drop if more lights are used. I tried to convert Deferred Rendering in XNA4.0 | ROY-T.NL but it is not working, because I am not using any models. I know I have to render color, normals and lights seperate but I don't know how I could get it working. For understanding my structure better I'm using a world-class which holds some chunks. These chunks are loading all vertices from their items. These items have a property which returns the vertices. The item is returning VertexPositionNormalTexture[]. The chunk loads these Vertices and combines them to one large array of VertexPositionNormalTexture via someList.AsParallel().SelectMany(m => m).ToArray()). m is a VertexPositionNormalTexture. someList is List<VertexPositionNormalTexture>. I got my own shader to draw these vertices how I want them to be drawn. The first thing I would try is setting up two RenderTarget2D for rendering the color and normal part. With two different shaders. Than I would have to render the lights and there's the problem: I don't know how. Some information to the system: I'm using SharpDX (Nightly from some months ago) and the SharpDX.Toolkit (I don't want to mess up with Direct3DDevice and similar things). Can someone help me with this problem? If things are missing or I provided insufficient information tell me, I need to get deferred shading working. Things I'm not able to do: create a rendertarget which holds all lights, merge colorMap, normalMap and lightMap to one finalMap and presenting this to the user.

No source control system can automatically merge two edits to the same line of code. Conflict Alert solves this by warning you that you are heading down a path that will cause a manual merge later down the line. You choose whether you want to carry on, or talk to your teammate and find out what they are doing. Have you ever warned your teammates that you are doing a big refactor, and that they should ‘keep out of class X’? Conflict Alert tells them for you automatically by highlighting the sections of code that you have edited.   It doesn’t need to connect to your source control system, so it works no matter which you use.   I've trolled the internets to make hdmi work on my system Ubuntu 12.04 software center kernel 3.5 uname: Linux ubuntu 3.5.0-18-generic #29~precise1-Ubuntu SMP...x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux open source radeon drivers vgaswitcheroo (hybrid intel/radeon gpu): I boot with intel, not radeon, running. (and recall that with kernel 3.5, vgaswitcheroo now gives info on a third item, "DIS-Audio"; it indicates pwr on my system) ( /etc/rc.local: chown user:user /sys/kernel/debug/ # change "username" with your user name echo OFF /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch ) grub indeed now has "radeon.audio=1" for testing audio, I did aplay -l which gave me the card and device, which made me try aplay -D plughw:1,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav and lo! I get crystal clear sound on my hdtv. If I play an mp3 file as the argument to that command, I get noise as, I guess, aplay interprets the mp3 code as a wav. If I play a .wav that is not in the /usr/share/sounds/alsa/ directory, I get nothing. Internet flash video in browser plays no sound over hdmi. Both system sounds control and pavucontrol have hdmi cedar selected. Alas, I can not get sound for any gui test (left, right). Why would only aplay, and only when directed with "-D plughw", yield sound over hdmi? I've also tried only using one sound program at a time, if it was a limitation of alsa, so I tried aplay with web browser and even the sound control gui closed. I tried each of the last two, running alone. No improvement. alsamixer only shows hda intel and I think it's only the intel audio, not the hdmi.

  There are a number of reasons why you may want to change the folder that you store the TFS Cache. It can take up “some” amount of room so moving it to another drive can be beneficial. This is the source control Cache that TFS uses to cache data from the database. Moving the Cache is pretty easy and should allow you to organise your server space a little more efficiently. You may also get a performance improvement (although small) by putting it on another drive.. Create a new directory to store the Cache. e.g. “d:\TfsCache\” Figure: Create a new folder Give the local TFS WPG group full control of the directory   Figure: You need to use the App Tier Service WPG In the application tier web.config (~\Application Tier\Web Services\web.config) add the following setting (to the appSettings section). • Script/tool to import series of snapshots, each being a new edition, into GIT, populating source tree?

  I've developed code locally and taken a fairly regular snapshot whenever I reach a significant point in development, e.g. a working build. So I have a long-ish list of about 40 folders, each folder being a snapshot e.g. in ascending date YYYYMMDD order, e.g.:- 20100523 20100614 20100721 20100722 20100809 20100901 20101001 20101003 20101104 20101119 20101203 20101218 20110102 I'm looking for a script to import each of these snapshots into GIT. The end result being that the latest code is the same as the last snapshot, and other editions are accessible and are as numbered. Some other requirements: that the latest edition is not cumulative of the previous snapshots, i.e., files that appeared in older snapshots but which don't appear in later ones (e.g. due to refactoring etc.) should not appear in the latest edition of the code. meanwhile, there should be continuity between files that do persist between snapshots. I would like GIT to know that there are previous editions of these files and not treat them as brand new files within each edition. Some background about my aim: I need to formally revision control this work rather than keep local private snapshot copies. I plan to release this work as open source, so version controlling would be highly recommended I am evaluating some of the current popular version control systems (Subversion and GIT) BUT I definitely need a working solution in GIT as well as subversion. I'm not looking to be persuaded to use one particular tool, I need a solution for each tool I am considering. (I haved posted an answer separately for each tool so separate camps of folks who have expertise in GIT and Subversion will be able to give focused answers on one or the other). • Design pattern to handle queries using multiple models

  I am presented with a dilemma while trying to re-designing the class structure for my PHP/MySQL application to make it more elegant and conform it to the SOLID principle. The problem goes like this: Let as assume, there is an abstract class called person which has certain properties to define a generic person, such as name, age, date of birth etc. There are two classes, student, and teacher, that implements this abstract class. They add their own unique properties to it. I have designed all the three classes to include all the operational logic (details of which are not relevant in context of the question). Now, I need to create views/reports/data grids which contain details from multiple classes, for example, say, a list of all students doing projects in Chemistry mentored by a teacher whose name is the parameter to the query. This is just one example of a view, there are many different views in the application, which uses data from 3-4 tables, and each of them have multiple input parameters to generate them. Considering this particular example, I have written the relevant query using JOIN and the results are as expected and proper, now here is the dilemma: Keeping in mind the single responsibility principle, where should I keep this query? It does not belong to either Student class, or Teacher class or any other classes currently present. a) Should I create a new class, say dataView class, and design it as a MVC pattern and keep the query there? What about the other views? how do they fit in this architecture? b) Should I not keep the query in code at all, and make it DB View ? c) Am I completely wrong in the approach? If so what is the right approach? My considerations are as follows: a) should be easy to add new views later on if requirement comes, without having to copy-paste-modify code b) would like to make it as loosely coupled as possible so that if minor db structure changes happen, it does not break I did google searches on report design and OOP report generators, but all the result seem to focus on the visual design of the report rather than fetching the data. I have already taken care of the visual aspect of the report using MVC with html templates. I am sure this is a very fundamental problem with known solution, but I am somehow not able to find it (maybe searching with wrong keyword). Edit1: Modified the title to make it more relevant Edit2: The accepted answer got me thinking in the right direction and identify my design flaws, which eventually led me to find this question and the solution in Stack Overflow which gave me the detailed answer to clear the confusion.

• Can't create a new HomeGroup in Windows 8

  I'm trying to create a new HomeGroup in Windows 8 for 2 new PCs with Windows 8 installed so that I can share printers etc. Both PCs use Microsoft Account to log in - a Microsoft Account I set up about a year ago with one of the early beta's with a PC that's since been repaved with the RTM of Windows 8 When I click on "HomeGroup" in the "Metro" control panel the "Create" option is not there. Instead I'm told that "HomeGroup" already exists on the PC I've since repaved and renamed and I can join it by entering the password. I have no recollection of what the password might have been and in any event that PC doesn't exist, but there is no way to say "That group doesn't exist anymore just create me a new one dammit". Even using the old Control Panel the "HomeGroup" nonsense persists with the only option being "Join" that needs a password. How do I "start afresh" and create a new HomeGroup that I can use to connect my Windows 8 and Windows 7 PCs and use common printers, network drives etc.

• How can I disable DPMS temporarily in X under a modern linux?

  Historically if you wanted to control blanking and DPMS in X, you could do it with xset. Issuingxset -dpms on my laptop results in xset q returning "DPMS is Disabled", as it should. But my screens still turn off. I'm running an up-to-date Arch Linux using KMS with integrated Intel graphics, I'm not running GNOME or willing to use anything that needs something like it. I am however stuck with DBUS and HAL. I've tried fiddling with the various timeouts, and it hasn't helped - specifically, changing the timeouts seems to be able to turn off the screen sooner, but not stop it from turning off :) This makes me suspect that there's something else overriding the setting. Is there any way to get xset to actually function as it used to, or at least stop lying to me? Note that I don't want to permanently disable DPMS or blanking - just to be able to control it when I need to.

• Is it possible to keep nm-applet running between invocations of WM startup?

  I am using nm-applet to interface with NetworkManager, running xmonad as a window manager. My X sessions (including nm-applet) are set up with a /usr/local/bin/xmonad.start script. My question is, how can I keep nm-applet running in the background as long as X is running, but not necessarily xmonad? As mentioned above, it is being started with xmonad (and dying with it when xmonad is restarted, etc). I am using gdm to manage my X sessions, and I'm running 10.10. Where's a good place to start nm-applet to suit my particular needs? I need to remove it from the control of xmonad, but don't know where to start it otherwise. Any help, tips, etc appreciated. Edit: problem seems to be with how I have integrated xmonad. Any help with testing is welcome! Fixed problem with SSRS keep-alive cookies. Keep-alive cookies are issued every time a report is opened during a browser session. Many people don't restart their browsers and in my case, Chrome doesn't get rid of the cookie session data on close - had to manually delete them for the reports to start working again. I added KeepSessionAlive control settings to manage SSRS keep-alive behavior. It is set to false by default to fix Bad Request 400: Request Too Long issue. You can find usage example in Fluent.cshtml. Fixed the bug when ReportViewer Control parameters was not parsed when ShowParameterPrompts parameter had not been set. Changed public static MvcReportViewerIframe MvcReportViewer method to use IEnumerable<KeyValuePair<string, object>> reportParameters instead of simple object. The reason is users reported that they mostly use multiple report parameters’ values. Added support for SSRS hosted on Windows Azure. Users should set MvcReportViewer.IsAzureSSRS property to true in Web.config to use Windows Azure authentication. I do not have Windows Azure SSRS and build the code using http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg552871.aspx#Authentication article. It would be nice if somebody from community tested the change or provided me a test report on Windows Azure for testing purposes.

  I have a Lenovo T400 laptop with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series video card, using the ATI Catalyst Control Center to span my Windows XP display over the laptop display and a Dell flatpanel LCD. This works fine, but I'm used to NVIDIA multi-desktop that let me control the "Start bar" to either exist on only 1 screen... be duplicated on both, or (what I want), stretched across both. • What is the basic loadout for an open source web developer?

  Thus far, I have mainly been an embedded developer, but I am interested in having the flexibility to do mobile and web development as well. I think my tools should include the following, but probably a lot more. LAMP stack. Java IDEs like Eclipse and IntelliJ. JS frameworks like Dojo, Node.JS, AngularJS, (is it better to mix or commit to one?). Cloud solutions like EC2 and Azure (again, ok to mix or better to commit to one?). Google APIs. Continuous integration server. Source control tools with Git for new work, SVN, CVS, +others for imports. FTP server. Unit test runners. Bug trackers. OOAD modeling tools or plug-ins? Graphic design tools? Hosting services. XML / JSON / other markup? Content management, SEO? I am also interested to know if there are tools where it might be better to mix, match, or support all available (maybe for source control) and others where the full focus should be on one (maybe Java vs. C# or Windows vs. Linux vs. MacOS). Perhaps some of these questions need context of whether the projects will be greenfield (just pick favorite) or maintenance (no choice, each project continues legacy, sometimes with a poor tools).

• Getting network interface device name in powershell

  I needed a powershell 2 script to get the name and device name of each interface like it is shown in network connections in control panel. Should be easy... $interfaces = Get-WmiObject Win32_NetworkAdapter $interfaces | foreach { $friendlyname = $_ | Select-Object -ExpandProperty NetConnectionID $name = $_ | Select-Object -ExpandProperty Name } However, $name comes back as "Broadcom BCM5709C NetXtreme II GigE (NDIS VBD Client)", whereas in control panel it shows "Broadcom BCM5709C NetXtreme II GigE (NDIS VBD Client) #69", because there are multiple cards. I can't find that number anywhere in the properties. How can I get both the Name and Device Name, exactly as shown in Network Connections, in powershell 2 on windows server 2008 r2?
