• ActiveRecord fundamentally incompatible with composite keys?

  I have been attempting to use subsonic for a project on which I'm working. All was going quite well until I encountered a link table with a composite primary key. That is a key made up of the primary keys of the two tables it joins. Subsonic failed to recognize both keys which was problematic. I was going to adjust subsonic to support compound keys but I stopped and though "Maybe there is a reason for this". Normally active record relies on a single primary key field for every record, even in link tables. But is this necessary? Should I just give up on active record for this project or continue with my modifications?

• xval get message from resource file

  I'm working on a CMS system which uses a resource file to get information and errormessages from. The client side validation is working without problems, only it's not getting the errormessage from the resource file. While debugging i figured out xval seems to get the errormessages from a javascript file where the messages are set hard-coded. Is there some way to override this? Below the code which should make the relation to the resourcefile en specify the error when the field is left empty. • Added tagging to existing model, now how does its admin work?

  I wanted to add a StackOverflow-style tag input to a blog model of mine. This is a model that has a lot of data already in it. class BlogPost(models.Model): # my blog fields try: tagging.register(BlogPost) except tagging.AlreadyRegistered: pass I thought that was all I needed so I went through my old database of blog posts (this is a newly ported blog) and copied the tags in. It worked and I could display tags and filter by tag. However, I just wrote a new BlogPost and realise there's no tag field there. Reading the documentation (coincidentally, dry enough to be used as an antiperspirant), I found the TagField. Thinking this would just be a manager-style layer over the existing tagging register, I added it. It complained about there not being a Tag column. I'd rather not denormalise on tags just to satisfy create an interface for inputting them. Is there a TagManager class that I can just set on the model? tags = TagManager() # or somesuch

  Hi guys, I'm having trouble with one particular issue, I was hoping someone could help me out. I've completed the MVC Music Store tutorial, and now I'm trying to add some administrator functionality - practice as I will have to do this in an MVC application in my job. The application is using the aspnet membership api, and what I have done so far is created a view to list the users. What I want to be able to do, is click on the users name in order to change their password. To try and carry the username to the changeUserPassword controller (custom made). I registered a new route in the global.asax.cs file in order to display the username in the URL, which is working so far.   Hi, This is my first post here, so hello :) Okey, let's get to the point... I am writing my first app in ASP.NET MVC Framework and i have a problem with checking privileges to use instances of model classes (read, edit). Sample code looks like this: // Controller action [CustomAuthorize(Roles="Editor, Admin")] public ActionResult Stats(int id) { User user = userRepository.GetUser(id); if (user == null || !user.Activated || user.Removed) return View("NotFound"); else if (!user.IsCurrentSessionUserOwned) return View("NotAuthorized"); return View(user); } So far authorize attribute protects only controller actions, so my question is: how to make (custom) authorize attribute to check not only user role, usernames but also did i.e. resources instantiated in action methods (above: User class, but there are other ORM objects like News, Photos etc.) All of these object to check have their unique ID's, so user have own ID, News have their ID and UserID field referecned to Users table (i mean these objects are LINQ2SQL classes). How should i resolve that problem?

• What would be the disadvantages/risks of using AF_UNSPEC?

  From Beej's Guide to Network programming You can force it to use IPv4 or IPv6 in the ai_family field, or leave it as AF_UNSPEC to use whatever. This is cool because your code can be IP version-agnostic. As the title says - what would be the disadvantages (or risks, if any) of always using AF_UNSPEC, instead of specifying IPv4 or IPv6? Or it's only for one reason - if the version is specified, this will guarantee that this and only this version is supported? A little background - I think about adding support for IPv6 in client-server (C++) applications and both versions should be supported. So I wondered if it's fine to use AF_UNSPEC or it's better to "recognize" the address from the string and use AF_INET6 or AF_INET, depending on the address.

  SO I am trying to create a way to structure my database to be able customize forms. I looked into EAV pattern and here is my db structure: Table form - form_id - form_name - form_added_on - form_modified_at Table: form_fields - field_id - form_id - field_type (TEXT, RADIO etc..) - field_default_value - field_required Table: form_data - data_id - field_id - form_id - field_value so now I can store any custom form into the database and if I want to get the values for an individual form I can simply join it by "form_id" .. the problem: I want to be able to search through all the forms for a specific field value. How can I do that with EAV model? Also, I thought about just storing the custom data as a serialized (JSON) object but then I am not sure how can I query that data. Please note that I am using Codeigniter with MYSQL. So if conversation can use Codeigniter libraries if needed.

• More complex view matrix calculation required to composite 3d models with 2d video

  I'm utilising some 2d / 3d tracking data (provided by pfHoe) to help integrate some 3d models into the playback of some 2d video. Things are working.... okay... but there's still some visible 'slipping' of the models against the video background and I suspect this is may be because the XNA CreatePerspective helper method isn't taking into account some of the additional data supplied by pfHoe such as independent horizontal / vertical field of view angles and focal length. Would anyone be able to point me towards some examples of constructing view matrices that include such details?

• Thoughts/Input about Database Design for a CMS

  I'm just about to expand the functionality of our own CMS but was thinking of restructuring the database to make it simpler to add/edit data types and values. Currently, the CMS is quite flat - the CMS requires a field in the database for every type of stored value (manually created). The first option that comes to mind is simply a table which keeps the data types (ie: Address 1, Suburb, Email Address etc) and another table which holds values for each of these data types. Just like how Wordpress keeps values in the 'options' table, PHP serialize would be used to store an array of values. The second option is how Drupal works, the CMS creates tables for every data type. Unlike Wordpress, this can be a bit of an overkill but really useful for SQL queries when ordering and grouping by a particular value. What's everyone's thoughts?

After a quick round of sorting you are paired up with an alien computer scientist. Given you don't understand each others language how would you using computer science to start the ground work of communication? eg. We know binary is universal, but not the way we write it. The symbols are not universal nor is the the direction we write it (MSB vs LSB and left vs right) Assume aliens are "similar" to us physically it won't impede visual communication.

• Software to find dependencys in a database that not have them as restrictions

  I have a database in SQL server 2005 that originaly comes fom an old mainframe. All relations was set in the surrounding software and there are non i the database. I need to find the relations, not by field name but by actual contence in the registers. (as suggestions, I realize I'l have to check them up) It would be nice with some extras, like finding motherless posts etc. but not a primary demand. There are some 200 registers with max 2 000 000 posts in any register. Does any one know of a software that can help me with this? The software I can find presuposes that relations are set in the database :(

• How to check if a variable is defined in a Master file in ASP.NET MVC

  I've got a Site.Master file I've created to be my template for the majority of the site, with a navigation. This navigation is dynamically created, based on a recursive Entity (called Page) - Pages with a parentID of 0 are top level, and naturally each child carries it's parent's Id in that field. I've created a quick little HTML Helper that accepts the ID of an Page and generates the nav by doing a foreach on the children that have a parentId matching the passed Id. On the majority of the site, I want the Site.Master to use a parentId of 0, but if I'm on a strongly typed View displaying a Page, I naturally want to use the Id of the page. Is there a way to do such conditional logic in a Site.Master (and, does that violate MVC rules)? "If I'm on a strongly typed Page of /Page/{Id}, use the Id render nav, else use 0"

I've linked the sub-report to dataset and dataset has one table call image and it contain column system.byte[]. main report link to another dataset . main report has parameters and sub report has only image field. but when run main report display data but sub report don't display. no error message. sub report dataset not pass data to report. anyone have any idea what might be causing the sub-reports to not work??

The following query sort of works: Select f.name, max(f.version) from FeatureList f group by f.name The trouble is that won't populate the key field, which I need to contain the key of the record with the highest version number for the given FeatureList. If I add f.key in the select it won't work because it's not in the group by or an aggregate and if I put it in the group by the whole thing stops working and it just gives me every version as a separate entity. So, can anybody help?

I've two class fields: _hour and _day. If actual day is higher than my _day field I must return true, so I'll add a month to "executionDate" If the day is the same, but the actual hour is higher than _hour I should return true too.   Hi, I have two tables which I would like to join by ID field. I was trying to use for this "INNER JOIN". Everything would be good but there are two issues: As a result I receive twice column ID. I have to omit specifying columns which should be displayed under select statement. I would like to use there a *. I red that other sql-s have something like natural join and that is probably (or not?) an answer for my question. Unfortunately there is no join like that in SQL Server (2005). Do anybody knows any good replacement of it?

Is there any performance advantage to doing so (given that the number of columns and rows may be quite large in practice)?

• Correct sequence of actions when using Markdown & MySQL?

  I want my users to be able to write an article in Markdown, have it stored in the MySQL database (with the option to edit it in the future), and displayed for other users. In practice, this is my understanding of how it works: INPUT user input via HTML form using Markdown syntax $queryInput = mysql_real_escape_string($userInput); insert sanitized string into database OUTPUT query field from database $output = Markdown($queryResult); display $output Is that it? Does PHP Markdown preclude the need for htmlspecialchars or Pure HTML ? Thanks!
